We ordered from Mr. Bao on Christmas evening and everything was delicious and well packed. Sad that the veggie dumplings were out of stock but loved the bao and mapo tofu bowl. I'll be ordering more in the future !
Ordered from here on Uber eats tonight and it was sooooooo tasty. I love teriyaki but it’s so hard to find a good one! The chicken was grilled and the sauce had a great flavor with just a little sweetness. I got the string beans side as well. Healthy and delicious!
Mr. Bao has never let me down. When I’m craving steaming-hot, fresh, tender dumplings and buns I don’t need to think twice. Not only does everything on the menu satisfy but points for presentation as well. Each delectable piece is as much a pleasure to look at on the plate as they are to taste. And the employees are always friendly and helpful.
Got the Beijing Noodles and pork soup dumplings. The noodles were pretty good (just wished they had a bit more sauce) and the pork soup dumplings came out very hot and fresh. We dined in but I'd come back again for a quick bite to go in the future.
The Taiwanese fried chicken in a scallion pancake looked delectable. I was trying to stick to a gluten-free dish so I got beef over rice, which was perfect. However, can’t wait to have myself a little treat next time I go back with that fried chicken!
Must go here for the dumplings !!!! We were looking for a dumpling place and found this to be the only one open. The dumplings were great. We also ordered noodles but I wasn’t crazy about them , they were really cold.
This is a good restaurant , they have an excellent service.
I used to live in Beijing and I am extremely picky when it comes to Chinese food. Until now, Park Slope didn’t have any Chinese that was up to my standards.... I am SO HAPPY to report that this place is amazing! We tried the soup dumplings and the pork baozi, both fabulous. Can’t wait to try more. Welcome to the neighborhood!
Soup dumplings are the best !! Love this place
I am SO EXCITED to have discovered Mr. Bao. Park Slope has been woefully lacking in soup dumplings, especially delivery soup dumplings, enter Mr. Bao. I was so pleasantly surprised. These soup dumplings were flavorful and arrived fresh. My delivery arrived so quickly. Will definitely be ordering again
Yum! Ordered from here twice in a few days. Soup dumplings are delicious even in delivery! Miraculous! Rice bowls are solid. Sesame dumplings are awesome. My new fave.
So tasty! The soup dumplings are top notch! The popcorn chicken is just like the best that you can get in Taipei. Very reasonable prices. Delicious and great value!
It tastes good. I like the dumplings here.
It’s nice food very clean and very friendly i recommend to visit the restaurant
Love this place . Curry chicken dumpling is my favorite one
Fresh shrimp Lo Mein tastes very very good. Worth to try
I order here for lunch pretty often and can say that the food is consistently delicious! I typically get the rice bowl with teriyaki chicken and cucumber salad. The cucumber salad is so refreshing and makes the whole meal for me. I’ve also ordered for my coworkers and all of them loved the food (the popcorn chicken is a huge hit here!).
I usually order take out from here and their soup dumplings are delicious! The popcorn chicken is a great appetizer. The portions are a nice size and prices reasonable. In my opinion it's a better take out place than dine in.
This place is absolutely perfect, the food here is so good I ordered from uber eats and was not expecting the food to be this good. The portions are amazing too considering the price. I would definitely recommend getting the steamed vegetable dumplings and popcorn shrimp. Their pepper shrimp was really Nice too
Ugh, I get their soup dumplings for delivery all the time and I never get sick of them. They travel well, I have to say. Steamed or pan fried, either one is good in its own way. The dipping sauce is magic too. I just am writing this review to vent about how good their dumplings are. So juicy. Just make sure you have napkins lol
Haven't had the pleasure of dining in person but my delivery experience has been excellent. I exclusively order after 10PM and everything arrives quick, fresh and hot... except the marinated beef. Sometimes it's AMAZING like unbelievably tender and flavorful, others times not so much. Consistency can be kind of hit or miss but I imagine if I ordered earlier in the day my experience would be well rounded. Besides that I'm 1000% hooked on Mr. Bao! The sesame dandan noodles, mr. bao wrap and rice balls are my favorite. The soup dumplings are really good too. Overall this is a solid joint, I would just save the marinated beef for in person dining.
I love the pan-fried Pork Chive Dumpling . Perfectly crispy outside and juicy inside
Can't say anything about the atmosphere because I ordered through Grubhub. I can say that I've had a really hard time finding food that sounded enticing to eat because I have cancer and am in chemotherapy. My mouth tastes like a tin can, and I'm thrown off by cooking smells. So, when a friend gifted me a card and I found myself having a hankering for dumplings, baozi, and sesame bolls, I decided to order from the closest spot that offered all of the above. The food arrived pretty quickly. They did not disappoint. The curry beef baozi were fluffy and flavorful. The truffle pork soup dumplings were beautiful and bursting with broth. My sweetie got the beef and onion dumplings with soup. They were moist and tasty and very filling, and the soup was piping hot and comforting. The sesame balls crowned our meal with their toasty, crisp exterior, delightfully gooey mochi layer, and just-sweet-enough red-bean filling. I ate more than I expected and enjoyed every bite!
We love ordering from Mr Bao on occasion, I am so obsessed with all their food I could eat it every day. I don’t know how to guys make your Phoenix Buns…but if you ever decide to start making frozen ones to buy in bulk, i’ll take 100. one of my favorite dumplings spots on this side of BK!
The chicken soup dumpling is my favorite one , so yummy
My husband and I strolled in after 8pm on a Sunday because we were looking for a quick, easy dinner. We had the Beijing Street Noodles (essentially zha jiang mian) and the boiled pork and chive dumplings and both dishes were very authentic to my (Singaporean) palette! Only thing I’d changed is for the dumpling sauce to be a little less sweet, but it was still good. ✨
This place is excellent. The reviews here are SO skewed because of delivery experiences. Order from here, especially the soup dumplings.
The shrimp wonton shop was incredibly delicious and flavorful . Worth to try
Général Tso’s Chicken is the best . Crispy , flavorful and really satisfying
Spicy sesame dandan noodles were absolutely delicious . Good balance
They make the best chicken fried rice I've ever had. The beef gua bao is also amazing.
The best dumplings I’ve ever had! Every bite is full of flavor. If you love dumplings, this place is a must-visit!
Absolutely delicious for the entire family. All the kids loved trying something new. So many vibrant colors on our plates and so yummy! We were quite happy sitting outside and would be happy to come back again.
This is the perfect afternoon small as you walk down 5th park slope. The scallion wrap duck was exactly what I needed. For what it costs, give it a five star. It’s like a twist to the Peking duck, with similar sauces. Not a big portion but a pretty filling snack
Great food, great value. The curry chicken dumplings are amazing, and everything came out fresh and quickly. Clean space and friendly service. I’d definitely come back.
Mr. Bao is one of those places you walk into once and immediately know you’ll be coming back. The food is incredible — everything tastes fresh, balanced, and full of flavor.
Pay no attention to the ridiculous low scoring. Scored higher on doordash how I ordered thru. Made a time mistake with my order and they happily fixed it. Everything was perfect 👌. We'll seasoned n those things that were spicy wasn't extremely. Picky eater approved. Phoenix buns were the best
Really enjoyed my meal at Mr. Bao. Great flavors, generous portions and the staff made me feel welcome. Perfect spot for a quick, tasty bite.
Soup dumplings in Park Slope, need I say more? I usually get Dan Dan noodles, dumplings and their combination bowls (rock shrimp, mushrooms, and brown rice). So amazing to have this spot in my neighborhood. Highly recommended
My brother and I decided to come eat here after receiving non-existent service at KYURAMEN just down the street. Seating is kind of limited and the setup is mostly for takeout but the vibe was pretty chill for Tuesday evening. The food took a little longer than anticipated but was pretty good. I got the mapo tofu rice bowl which I enjoyed, mapo tofu was delicious. My brother enjoyed the dandan noodles. The soup dumplings and buns were delicious as well. Maybe my only complaint would be the spicy mala pork soup dumplings weren’t spicy at all but it was still good.
I absolutely love this place ! I’ve ordered about three times from Uber eats and each time has been so delicious . Yesterday I ordered Phoenix buns and instead of the regular ones they gave me special ones ! They were huge and tasted really good. The dumplings are so delicious ! I recommend the pork and chives they were amazing . The soup dumplings were also delicious will never stop ordering from them! 😊
The food I ordered was very good with the exception of the soy sauce noodles. My love is for their buns, veggie dumplings, the veggie wrap, and the popcorn chicken. Seating is limited. It will work if you need to sit and wait for your meal.
I got the fish gua bao, and I liked it, and it wasn't too expensive. The ingredients felt kind of simple - fried fish slices, some kind of mayo, and some finely chopped veggies, but eh, if it's good it's good. It's nice this place is open late as well.
Ordered takeout. Soup dumplings, red oil wontons, siu mai, har gow, duck wonton and egg yolk bun (phoenix bun) The southern style items were much better than the northern style ones. Red oil wontons were nice and spicy but lacking some flavor. Soup dumplings were averagely good. Duck wonton had some bone or cartilage in there. My highlights were the egg yolk buns and har gow
I got the spicy pork soup dumplings, truffle pork soup dumplings, and curry chicken dumplings with spicy chili oil on top. The pork soup dumplings were alright. The spicy ones not spicy but the truffle ones had a good truffle flavor. The dough had a slight taste of flour left to it My favorite was the curry chicken dumplings tho, so good! I feel like chicken dumplings usually suck since everyone’s focused on the pork. But these were great. Fresh and flavorful. Didn’t taste like curry but tasted good Everything arrived hot and fresh at 1:30AM.
Our office ordered from this restaurant for the first time today. Most of us ordered "create your own bowl" (didn't take pics, gotta do better with that) we also ordered the shrimp lo mein, duck wrap, chicken, wrap, and the pork and chive fried dumplings and the fried spicy ramen. The overall consensus is everyone really enjoyed their food! Pork n Chive fried dumplings were deelish! flavor bomb inside, not dry. The dumpling itself was the perfect crisp and pillowy soft combo 9 out of 10. Fried spicy Ramen was ok, nothing to write home about. It was flavorful but dry, and there was a pool of chili oil on the bottom. 5 out of 10 Create your own bowl (48hr braised beef, garlic cucumber, and jasmine rice) The garlic cucumbers are a yummy pickled, crunch element that the dish needs 8 out of 10. The 48hr braised beef had great flavor, not salty BUT is was dry unfortunately was in desperate need of a sauce. That took away from the dish for me 7 out of 10. The menu has a lot of options that I really want to try. When it's all said and done, I would recommend this place and order from here again.
I should’ve taken a pic but basically I orders pan fried soup dumplings and steamed spicy mala pork dumplings. Homegirl REALLY looked me dead in my face and told me 1 that the fried BUNS they gave me were pan fried soup dumplings…and that the “soup” was absorbed by the dough 🙄🙄🙄 as if I’ve never had fried soup dumplings before. She THEN told me that she couldn’t refund me because the buns were “half eaten” when I literally took one bite before inspecting my “dumpling”. I had to go back and forth with her before she finally gave me a refund for the buns. It’s so frustrating when servers don’t use common sense. I felt like she thought I was trying to scam her. Mr. Bao PLEASE educate your employees on what a soup dumpling looks like so that your customers don’t have to! Very glad I didn’t give a tip. The steamed spicy pork dumplings were good tho.
I hate to leave 3 stars BUT.... 1) The Food is AMAZING 🤩 YOU DEFENATLY SHOULD COME AND TRY THE FOOD. I came by recomindation. It took me almost a hour for the commute. I would much appreciate if I would be treated as a customer just like any other. The food was presented in a plastic container. I came for the Experience, but there was no Experience cause the presentation absolutely missing. If I would like to eat from a plastic countinner. I could get delivery ! If the Customer already comes all the way to your restaurant. Make sure to give a good service. They said they serve in plastic containers because they do mostly delivery ! ( I should have told that before I order ). And they don't gave any traditional plates But that was a lie, because when I left I so in the kitchen they had the whole stock
I ordered crab/pork soup dumpling. It was my first time having soup dumpling. The good was lukewarm. I was expecting it to be hot. And some of the dumplings were falling apart. However, the flavor was really good. The quality of the dumpling was disappointing. Especially with it being my first time trying. My expectations were shattered. I would give them another try if they can assure the food is actually hot.
I googled soup dumpling places and this came up on 5th Ave Brooklyn, they are open until 1am on a Friday which was a plus when your craving soup dumplings at night. I was a little disappointed though in the soup dumplings because they hardly had any soup in them. Flavor was just ok, you definitely need to add the vinegar/ginger sauce on top. The vegetable scallion pancake was pretty good and the pan fried vegetable dumplings. Plenty of tables that are very clean. There is a kiosk right at the front door where you order your own food, it was a little bit pricey.
The food here is okay, nothing particularly special, but at least they have a warmish outdoor area is you want to eat outside during the pandemic. We had the popcorn shrimp and the popcorn chicken. The popcorn shrimp was definitely better than the chicken. The beef bowl was fine. The meat was tender if not particularly tasty. My friend enjoyed her lion head meatball bowl which is not on the menu for some reason, but they had it. Also had the dumplings and soup but my friend said the soup had no flavor. The bing was a huge disappointment. The ones I had in other places in NYC, the wrapper was made to order. This was in some sort of pita bread. Not good.
Mr. Bao is a good dinner option if you are craving something Asian. It is specially known for it soup dumplings. I have a vegetable Bao there along with Mapo tofu and rice bowl, both of which were very good. They don’t have washroom usable by customers but other than that, it’s really pleasant.
Was working overnight and my co-worker and I ordered from here for some late-night eats. We ordered the following: MR. Bar Fried Rice with shrimp, steamed pork soup dumplings and create your own rice bowl. Her rice bowl had the following : jasmine rice, 48-hour braised Galbi beef, and garlic cucumber salad. The total was $40.00 with the added fees. Upon arrival, everything was sealed tight and there was no spillage. They included forks and knives, but no condiments. The soup dumplings were fairly decent, but the flavors weren’t distinct. Now, my fried rice took me off guard, it was better than I expected for a late-night meal. The only thing I would have changed is no egg. My co-worker said she thoroughly enjoyed her rice bowl. Some direct quotes are, Cucumber salad was “particularly good” and the meat was “tender and flavorful. “ In all, I would recommend Mr. Bao’s for a late-night meal. I am curious about the rest of the menu! (This 3.5 / 5 🌟 rating )
Finally a Chinese restaurant worth talking about in this part of Brooklyn! Despite having "bao" in its name, the soup dumplings is what to get. We got the pork soup dumpling and it was very flavorful and a good size dumpling and soup inside. Then there's the pan fried pork dumpling that had a unique seasoning sprinkled over on top that added this extra flavor negating needing the dipping sauce. We went back a 2nd time to try the crab/pork soup dumplings along with their shrimp/pork dumplings and they were also fabulous! The rice bowls are much larger than we had expected and is more than enough to fill you up. The pork belly was soft and juicy, while the meat was slightly over cooked, but still chock full of flavor. Since they had just open I assume the beef will be better as they work out the kinks. Popcorn chicken had a twinge of spice to give that little extra tasty tickle on your tongue. It could have used a sauce, but not necessary. Of all things, the unique looking black bao actually was the least of the favorite options. Felt like there was too much breading compared to the goods inside. All in all, this place is great and I'll definitely be going back to try more things!
The beef bao was COLD, like they just took it from the walk-in… when I asked they said “because the veggies have to be cold”, as if no one has ever served a hot dish with cold garnish…they made a big deal about warming it up. The soup dumplings leaked from the bottom. <sigh>
Ordered the Beijing Street Noodles for lunch and it's one of the only times I can remember throwing out an entire meal and I'm not that picky about food. The noodles were very meh and overcooked (tasted like pre-made packaged noodles) and the minced pork topping was way too salty to eat. I'm also not sure if this place is associate with Mr.Bao group anymore. The Mr.Bao group website has the ParkSlope spot listed as a location, but the link to their menu shows up as "Restaurant Not Found / Inactive!" It's definitely not the same menu as the other locations. The service and atmosphere were fine, but there are much better options in the area.
dined here with a couple of friends and we were all disappointed by how bland the food was. i got the beef bowl with cucumber salad and the only redeeming part was the soft-boiled marinated egg they included — everything else was tasteless, and I think the beef was also slightly undercooked. definitely overpriced for what you’re getting. pros: staff were nice and efficient, place was clean. very empty for a weekend night.
Very sad to report that I got food poisoning from their popcorn chicken. I’ve had their popcorn chicken before without a problem, but I got sick very shortly after eating it the most recent (and last) time. My partner and I loved ordering from Mr. Bao. We’re really disappointed that we won’t be able to order from here anymore because of their inconsistent/lax food safety. After reading other reviews, I can see I’m not the only one with this experience. Do not recommend.
In addition to the bad service that a lot of ppl already mentioned they are sneaky and put their B rating on the side window, so it's not visible from the front. They've had that rating for a long time, meaning they're not even making an effort in becoming cleaner. Not going there again.
Waited 2 hours for my food (should have been 50 mins at time I ordered). Had to call twice before it even got to that stage. Arrived cold. Maybe good if you’re eating in (other reviews seem to say so), but if you want dumplings delivered, and not have to reheat your food - looks elsewhere. Wish I could give this zero stars.
I ordered the dan dan noodles on Doordash and got food poisoning. Do not recommend. Phoenix buns were ok.
Beware, their website automatically directed me to the order page for the wrong location. When I tested it later, it kept doing that - for 2 different locations no less! - but it never gave me the option to choose a location, nor did it reveal the fact that there are multiple locations nor did it actually pick the location closest to me 🤦🏻♀️ When I went to this location to pick up my order, the ordeal the employee put me through for 10+ minutes was ridiculous. I won't bore anyone with the details but there are too many restaurants in NYC to give this place a second chance. Good grief
Might as well eat out of the trash can. You get the same experience. Food is trash
Writing this review as I eat rn. The food is okay. The service is like they were being held at knife point against their will in the back kitchen. They look absolutely miserable and looked like they hated me for making a simple order. Oh well, I hate you too cashier man.
Ordered uber eats food was nasty and through it straight to the garbage after the first bite
a big bowl of nothing! quite disappointing. It's like Asians forgot how to make a simple thing as Ramen. even store bought Ramen tastes better than what I just got. I ordered a spicy chicken Ramen bowl and it was just noodle, lettuce nd chicken with a water broth. no salt, not spicy, terribly disappointing. maybe other items might taste good but they definitely didn't capture the Ramen experience
Had to throw all the food. Soup dumplings were yellow, had barely any soup, and smelled disgusting. Wonton noodles in schezuan oil had no flavor at all. Overall very bland
Tried ordering delivery using seamless, the restaurant confirmed the order but we never got our food. We even called them (during business hours) to ask what the delay was but they never answered their phone. I ended up getting a refund from seamless.
Lady at the counter on Sunday 12:30pm 9/24 was rude. Gave me the stink eye the second I went for my to go order as if I was a bother. When I got my order she practically dropped the bag on the table couldn't wait to look away. Sorry I ruined your day with my simple takeout order. Bathrooms should also be provided for the dine in folks per the other reviews. There was a sign there saying that the bathrooms are for employees only. I've been coming here since they opened. This place is going downhill. The food quality has gone down. It's not worth it for the high prices. There is no need for me to return.
UNPROFESSIONAL!!! Literally ridiculously bad food. Took forever and when it arrived it tasted microwaved. My friend ate the sesame chicken and threw it all up, it’s quite possible the chicken was undercooked and she got food poisoning. The noodles are very flavorless and in general everything is just not worth it. Paid 50 dollars for one of the worst meals of my life and staff was very against refunding even after my friend complained about feeling ill. Do yourself a favor and don’t go here.
Cold food. Bad service, the waitress just put our tray down without even glancing at us. Atmosphere was just filled with clattering pans and shouting. No hospitality whatsoever. The vegan and vegetarian options just had an extremely salty flavor and they were cold. I would not recommend this place.
Before i walked in i saw they had a B rating which made me re think entering it but i decided to give it a chance. After this experience i’m listening to my gut feeling. prices are abnormally high, the food tastes like left overs which i’m sure they are. I had the chicken sesame, i’m not sure if that was even chicken. It was pink yet brown. I threw up right after and asked for a refund but they said the only alternative of a “refund” they could do was give me store credit for when i come back or remake it, and let’s be real here who would want to come back after throwing it all up. horrible experience never coming here again.
Delivery shows up very late and over an hour wait. I do not recommend ordering online since the order tracking doesn't work according to the people at the restaurant. Also do not recommend ordering in cold weather since food does not arrive hot. Lukewarm soup and hard soup dumplings are disappointing so i'll remember not to order delivery from here and recommend others avoid it in cold weather. Can't tell you if the quality of good or bad since everything is meh when it's not hot. Won't be taking my chances again here.
My husband and I dined in about 2 weeks ago and spent about $90 overall. I was extremely disappointed because the food was sub par and I couldn't use the restroom even though I'm 8mth pregnant. The soup dumplings was not hot which was disappointing, and the chicken fried rice was bland. The duck wrap was the only item that had flavor. I was excited to find a soup dumplings restaurant in Park Slope, but unfortunately I will not be returning to this restaurant.
They were nice but the bao buns were so cold. It was giving reheated frozen food.
Taste of food is decent. However, ordered late-night delivery, including an item being subject to a BOGO promotion. They did not honor their own promotion. Thoroughly disappointed by the service.
I wouldn't know I never received my food and I called and they said it was on the way and then they blocked me. And I still don't have my food. Don't go here. Awful people
I had take out first and a few days later I dined in here. For take out I had the sesame dandan noodles. I thought they were delicious, but afterwards my stomach didn't feel good for a whole day. For dine in, I had pork buns and different noodle dish. Once again my stomach did not feel good after eating the food. These two dishes were not good. I will not eat here again. To top this off, despite allowing people to dine in, they don't offer a bathroom, which is think is illegal...
I order Steam Pork soup dumplings and it was RAW. Plus I order cucumber salad & the cucumber Taste like it's been there for a while. The only thing that was good was there white rice and Kemchi. Not Worth my money and this be the last time I get from them just becuase I payed so much for everything I had order. So disappointed . I Order from uber eats.
I ordered food on door dash and it said that this restaurant was preparing for 40 minutes. I called the store and the lady that picked up told me the door dasher is on its way to deliver it and it should arrive within 10 minutes. Well I waited over 30 minutes and my food still hasn’t arrived. Don’t order online from here. AVOID.
I’ve always loved ordering dumplings from Mr. Bao and decided to try something different. I was excited for the popcorn shrimp, as I’ve had it from other place and thoroughly enjoyed the flavors, so I ordered two. However, after receiving the popcorn shrimp on a take out order I was disappointed to find the shrimp not deveined. Although some people don’t care, it definitely through me off as I’ve always had this dish and all of my other shrimp dishes at restaurants, deveined. The shrimp were filled with shrimp poop and even some of it exploded on to the near by shrimp. I tried to power through it but unfortunately, I couldn’t eat it as it looked unappetizing and made me nauseous. Really upset with the quality and really upset that it’s become waste.
