We felt genuinely welcomed from the moment we walked in, almost as if we were dining with family. My daughter, who is usually a very selective eater, ended up having one of the best meals she’s ever had thanks to the thoughtful recommendation from the team at Oxomoco. The service, the flavors, and the atmosphere all exceeded expectations. Highly respected, highly recommended, and I truly can’t wait to go back.
We went to Oxomoco for brunch and had a great time. We tried the Pork Tacos, the chilaquiles and the salsa con chips. Everything was very tasteful. The atmosphere and the place is great I recommend it
Michelin Star restaurant for good reason! Excellent food and excellent service. Had the Wagyu beef cheeks and their current special lamb tacos. Both stellar !
My friend and I had dinner and drinks here back in March of last year. It is elevated Mexican food, and the quality and atmosphere match the price point. We sat at the bar and enjoyed great service/food, though unfortunately all these months later I can't remember specifically what we ordered :)
My wife and I have been here a bunch of times and I can’t believe I never left a review. This is our go to place for Mexican food. Every time we have been here the service is top notch and the food is beyond delicious. You definitely have to try this place for brunch or dinner.
Had a spectacular meal there yesterday. It’s pretty easy to get a table for lunch. I got the Tuna Tostada and then the Flank Steak taco and for dessert a strawberry flan(?). Everything was amazing and I’ll be back soon. Service was superb as well, thanks John. The Salsa Macha was one of the best I’ve had. I bought a jar to take home. This place is worth all the hype. Big fan.
I have to say this restaurant was absolutely delicious!! So glad we tried the only Mexican Michelin star in New York!!! We went here for our anniversary and were very pleased! Our reservation was for 9 and our table was ready exactly at that time. Service was fantastic! Our waiter was really friendly and very knowledgeable about all the food items. He answered all of our questions about flavors and portion sizes quite thoroughly which made our decisions easy! Their tequila and mezcal varieties were very extensive and they had great cocktail options as well! For appetizers we decided to choose the smoked mangoes, tuna tostada, and the punta verde caesar. All were so tasty and had such amazing flavor, we even ordered another tuna tostada!! I would say we felt the mangoes were more of a snack/dessert and not an app but we were not mad about it at all because the smokiness they were able to get into the mangoes was amazing! For the main course we went with the lamb and swordfish tacos (it comes with 2 each). They are average sized, nothing too big or small especially since we ordered so many appetizers between the two of us!! Both dishes were so flavorful!! I would highly recommend trying everything you have room for since the choices we made were bursting with so much flavor! We chose the Oaxacan chocolate cake and the tres leches for dessert. The cake and ice cream had a strong espresso flavor, maybe because I don't drink any coffee/espresso at all but it was still very tasty. Overall this was a very affordable Michelin Star restaurant and we were extremely pleased with every aspect of our dining experience. We would absolutely return to try more menu items and highly recommend paying them a visit if you are a fan of big, bold flavors!! (The photos are not great sorry.)
Lived up to the hype.. a super chilled yet affordable Michelin! The whole vibe was so fun.. we were able to walk in on a Saturday lunch time and sit at the bar! Get the chips and dips - all the flavours were so unique. We then had the tuna tostadas and all 3 of the meat tacos! We were super full but everything was delicious! Cannot wait to come back.!
The best Mexican restaurant I’ve ever tried. The best tacos that I’ve ever tried. I got a reservation at 11 AM on a Saturday morning and was pleased to see how beautiful the inside of the restaurant was. The service was good and the menu was plentiful with different tasty options. We got the black sesame Horchata which was amazing, the fresca drink was a bit too tart for me. The guac and chips was amazing! Lots of different flavors and great quality of ingredients. The flank steak tacos were out of this world, so juicy it melted in my mouth. It reminded me of KBBQ. The flavors packed a punch as there was some spice. The pork tacos were better than expected, I was expected it to be dry at some parts but no, it was juicy and the guac along with the other toppings made it whole. Highly recommend this place and would come back!
After reading all the reviews, I ordered what most people said was their favorites. I got the smoked mango, chips and salsa, tuna tostada and swordfish tacos. Every thing was excellent!! The smoked mango was served slightly warm, I wasn’t expecting that but I quite enjoyed it. The salsas felt more like sauce but they were tasty.. the real mvp of that dish was the corn tostadas!! The tuna tostada was immaculate and the swordfish tacos were scrumptious. The corn tortillas were so soft!! The only thing that I didn’t really care for was my drink. I ordered their Mocktail and it was rather disappointing… kinda bland.
Writing this mainly to rave about the flourless chocolate cake. It was so delicious - my partner and I thought god was in the kitchen whipping the dessert up. This is a must try!!! Other highlights include the Spring Tlayuda, which was a big tostada with a pea base. I’m glad we gave this a chance, because it had a rich umami taste that I enjoyed a lot. The lamb taco was also incredibly delicious, and the meat in each bite felt like it was melting in my mouth.
We came here on a Saturday with no res, we were 4th or 5th in line at 5:20 and it opens at 5:30. We got a bar seat or could have eaten in the covered outdoor area. The drinks are fun they have a frozen margarita, I got a regular one. Get the salsa, it’s so fun because you get to try like 7 kinds of salsa. Get rotisserie chicken it’s brined in honey and spices, baked and fried. Comes with this yummy charred rice and you can make tacos with it. The chocolate cake with espresso icecream is the bell of the ball! Amazing experience beautiful vibes and the bartender was hilarious!
I've been here several times, and the impression is excellent. Whether it's tacos or burritos, everything tastes delicious. Even though the prices are much higher compared to typical Mexican restaurants, it's definitely worth trying. This place manages to retain the essence of Mexican cuisine while incorporating some innovative details that can refresh your understanding of Mexican food.
This brunch was among the best Mexican food experiences I had in NYC. All the flavors were spot on, and the drinks were on par with the food. I was skeptical about what to expect at a Michelin-starred Mexican restaurant and got a very nice surprise. The menu has a decent amount of choice (from lighter bites like chips and guac to a more filling elevated burrito), while offering quality ingredients and a modern touch on classical dishes. The ambiance felt casual with a touch of chic, while still welcoming you to enjoy comforting Mexican food.
Hands down the best meal we had while visiting New York and per my wife, her life! We started with the chips and salsa and smoked mango. The salsas had a range of spice and profiles and the mangos were what I'd considered candied with a smoky BBQ sauce. Then we got the recommended tuna tostada, which was something I'd equate to mexican fused sushi, amazing. Then came the stars of the show, steak tacos and the pork carnitas tacos. Both were delectable! The balance in textures and flavors for the pork taco made it clear how and why this restaurant has received Michelin stars! The steak was tender, flavor forward, simply scrumptious. 20 out of 10, would recommend!
Came here with my wife for our anniversary and we had a great experience! The food was delicious and the service was really great! By far, our favorite menu items were the swordfish tacos and tuna tostada 👌🏽 We ordered 3 drinks, 4 small plates, and one entree and the total came to $210 before tip.
One of my new favorite restaurants period. Been wanting to come here for a while and it delivered in every way. The inside is beautiful and smells amazing from the wood-fired ovens. The spicy mango marg was up there with the best and the chips & salsa starter is a super fun way to try a bunch of their different salsas. They sell them for $8 a jar if you want to take a favorite home. The market corn tlayuda was super unique and we all loved it. Best bite of the night was easily the tuna tostada. This is a must order and maybe one of my favorite things I’ve ever eaten. The shrimp tostada was great but just doesn’t compare to the tuna. The lamb barbacoa and swordfish tacos were both insane and I literally left this place mind blown. My whole family felt the same way. True 5 star experience without being over the top, run here.
My entire experience was truly exceptional—worthy of a five-star rating. I entrusted the bartender with selecting my entire meal, and his choices could not have been more spot-on. As someone who tends to be a discerning critic, I was thoroughly impressed and have only positive remarks. The tuna tostada was outstanding—perfectly balanced with a subtle heat and a flavor profile that was both rich and refreshing. For the main course, I had the swordfish tacos. Swordfish can often be served overly soft, but in this case, it was expertly prepared—meaty, flavorful, and perhaps the best I’ve ever had. The al pastor seasoning complemented the dish beautifully. I would gladly order these tacos again and again. For dessert, I indulged in the classic chocolate cake, which, while rich, was nicely offset by the accompanying ice cream. I paired it with a carajillo—an espresso martini infused with orange zest—which elevated the finale of the meal perfectly.
Brunch was a great deal! My favorite was the soy marinated soy tostada and the arranchera flank steak tacos. The tostada was flavorful and balanced, and the tacos were loaded with great quality steak lightly seared. I generally prefer medium steaks but this one is perfect! The punta verde caesar was also great, but would be better if it has a tad less dressing. The polenta french toast was fine but not the star of the show - other dishes were far better. If I come back again, I think I'll get the guac and chips instead of the french toast. Also got the sesame horchata that was pretty light and has a strong sesame flavor. Very happy I was able to make a Saturday brunch reservation in the morning of! Highly recommend.
I finally decided to try Oxomoco and i did right. Food was delicious, Cesar salad and Tuna tostada are top notch, must highlight the black sesame Whorechata ahua as well, and the Michellada was meh. Staff were very attentive and friendly. Loved them all. Maria was very funny and lovely. Regina and Catalina taking care of us at all time. Last but not least. I love the facilites, taking a poopie was very fun.
We came here for brunch. We forgot one person on the reservation, but they were kind enough to accommodate us on the patio (heated AND covered). They asked if we wanted another chair to dine inside, but we like our space. We were comfortable and had the entire patio to ourselves. The steak tacos were the best I’ve ever had! The pork carnitas tacos were also fantastic. The flavors and texture were unique and really complemented each meat. The beet tacos were also really good! We ordered half of the menu and it was all great. Most came recommended by John, who was super attentive and just plain awesome. You’d be lucky to have him at your table! The must haves are the steak tacos, pork tacos, guacamole, chips and salsa, and the ganache for dessert! You won’t be disappointed! Excellent service and high quality food!
I’d love to come back to this place again and again. Each dish had not just the great presentation but had so many rich flavors coming from unique combinations of ingredients. Every dish was the discovery of new tastes and I love the creativity of the chef. My favorite was Tuna Tostada and the desert Tres leches (infused with mezcal)
Amazing experience at this Michelin-star Mexican restaurant! The tostadas were absolutely delicious and beautifully prepared. Perfect spot for a fun night out with friends — highly recommend. 🌮✨
Outstanding experience. Everything was excellent. We shared everything possible. Swordfish tacos, chips and salsa, smoked mango, spicy tuna tostado, lamb barbacoa tacos, the grilled pork chop, a spectacular carrot cake and granite along with several great mezcal drinks. The staff was very knowledgeable, and everyone was constantly multi-tasking. Worthy of its michelin star. Recomend this to everyone looking for delicious food.
Oxomoco has become my new favorite Mexican restaurant of all time, unequivocally. It avoids the contemporary trap that other Michelin-starred restaurants often fall into, paying homage to true authentic Mexican cuisine without over-optimizing for opulence. I wish there were more restaurants like this. Every dish was perfect, but the two standout dishes for me were the Market Corn Tlayuda and Lamb Barbacoa Tacos – truly remarkable in a menu full of excellent choices. Don’t sleep on the dessert either; the Hoja Santa Curd was a wonderful balance of sweet, savory, and sharp and it was one of the most unique and memorable desserts I’ve ever had. The service was exceptional. Despite a glitch with the reservation (my fault), they were still able to seat us outside. I could not recommend this place more – you simply must come visit before this place gets way too famous and difficult to find a table.
After having the chocolate cake for dessert… I immediately ordered another one. No exaggeration it was that good. The ice cream on it, the mousse. Insane!! The swordfish and lamb tacos were delicious! The meat was seasoned so well. Also got the tuna tostada and the mushroom tlayuda. Loved everything. Drinks were great too.
This is the best Mexican food I’ve had in Brooklyn so far. They absolutely deserve that Michelin star ⭐️ The service is excellent, and the food is absolutely delicious. The ambiance is nice too, though it can get a bit noisy indoors—something to keep in mind if you’re looking for a quiet dinner. I totally recommend it!
It's a Michelin Star restaurant for a reason. Its elevated Mexican food without being pretentious. The food is top notch, the service is top notch, and I love the ambiance. The Soy Marinated Tuna Tostada was just so good 🤤. My second favorite was the Lamb Tacos. The smoked mango for starters was just as good. The Michelada was fireeeee. Not the biggest fan of the shrimp tacos and the milk cake tho. Still coming back tho!
Oxomoco is a Michelin-starred gem in Greenpoint that truly delivers on flavor and atmosphere. The space is beautiful and welcoming, and the food lives up to its reputation. Ended the meal with the chocolate cake for dessert – rich, moist, and absolutely delicious. A great spot for a special night out.
This place is amazing! I recently visited for the first time, and the food completely exceeded my expectations. Every dish was beautifully presented and packed with flavor. The tuna tostada, in particular, caught me off guard—it was so fresh and perfectly balanced that I couldn’t stop thinking about it. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the service was excellent. I’ll definitely be coming back to explore more of the menu!
Absolutely wonderful experience overall. The food was absolutely flavour filled treats and so were the cocktails ! The Smoked Mango and Mole popcorn are the perfect sides to their stunning Guava Margarita! The tuna Tostada was an absolute flavor bomb and so were the shrimp tacos l. Almost wanted to order one more of those but wanted to try the desserts and that was absolutely the right call as they were awesome! The strawberry and Cream was tantalizing and the Tres leches infused with Mezcal was light and hit the right spots! Excellent dinner overall!
Perfect from the moment you walk in till you leave! This is one place you wouldn’t want to miss if you are ever in Greenpoint or in NYC. Every singe item (as shared in the pictures) on the menu is sublime. Words cannot describe the experiences I had here. So I just let my taste buds take over. It is a very popular restaurant, so reservations are definitely recommended. BTW, the guava margaritas are addictive.
Dinner at Oxomoco in Greenpoint was a memorable and well-rounded experience. From the moment we sat down, the warm atmosphere and attentive service set the tone for a great evening. Each dish we ordered—from the guacamole and tlayuda to the tacos, steak, and dessert—was thoughtfully prepared, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The meal flowed smoothly, with a balance of bold flavors, comforting textures, and a clear sense of care behind the cooking. The lamb tacos stood out as a favorite, but every course contributed to an overall sense of satisfaction. Oxomoco manages to feel both special and approachable, making it a place worth returning to.
Went for my birthday and as probably the most hyped up restaurant in greenpoint, it did not disappoint. Our Server (Paco) was the best of the best, our food was to die for, the special, tempura tacos, stole the show, but the lamb tacos were a close second. Drinks were nothing to lose your mind over but very solid. Desert wasn’t insane but full of flavor. all in all, this place was phenomenal, they also have a $20 take out burrito I’m very excited to try.
Everything from the moment we walked in, to the moment we left was exceptional. The decor was very inviting and the staff were very friendly. We had the lamb tacos, swordfish tacos, and chicken entree. The lamb tacos were exceptional, the swordfish tacos were other worldly and I want more as I’m sitting here writing this. No question as to why this place holds a Michelin star.
I write this review with a full belly and an empty wallet. This place was lovely. The decor and ambience was just as delicious as the food. We ordered the chips and salsa, the guacamole, a variety of tacos: sword fish, lamb barbacoa, shrimp and we finished off with the half chicken. The tacos and chicken were all amazing. Full of flavor, unique combinations, great taste. 100% recommend the chicken. I would also recommend skipping the salsa and getting the guacamole only. My main issue with this restaurant are the prices. $16 for 6 small saucers of salsa with chips!?! I understand that this is a Michelin star restaurant, but how can you justify $24 for two tacos. I also felt the service was not fitting of the price. Waiters would quickly take your plates before you even finished. Overall, really really delicious food. I would come back with the knowledge I have now, but just be mindful that this will set you back a paycheck.
Me and my family visited Oxomoco for the first time last night and absolutely loved it. We took a chance and came without a reservation, and they were luckily able to seat us really quickly. The guacamole with smoked tomatoes was insanely good and they have a great selection of drinks (the frozen Ixmand was delicious). I got the lamb barbacoa tacos and my parents got the swordfish. Both were phenomenal. The portions were slightly small but very satiating. Our waitress was really amazing and super knowledgeable about all of the menu items. The interior is beautiful and the ambiance on the patio is perfect. Overall, the quality of the food, the service, and the setting is totally worth it.
I cannot recommend Oxomoco enough. The menu offers contemporary twists to traditional Mexican dishes and an amazing selection of cocktails you won’t regret trying. A solid 5/5 in my opinion. Atmosphere Inside Oxomoco, you will find an amazing interior with hanging greens and beautifully placed ambient lighting which almost makes you forget you’re in a big city for a bit. The music is reminiscent of restaurants in Tulum and the staff are very friendly, responsive and knowledgeable of the menu items. Food At first bite, I immediately knew I had made the right choice. To say the food was good is an understatement. It was great! The flavors paired together very nicely and the portions were very generous. At the recommendation of our waiter, we ordered cocktails which absolutely complimented our meal leaving us very fulfilled with the entire experience. Overall, this was a great experience. Definitely a place for special occasions, entertaining guests or clients you want to impress. I will be returning.
Honestly, everything we had here was absolutely delectable. Do not underestimate the Tajin mango. As someone who does not like the flavour combo in general, this small snack was so so good. The texture was chewy and gummy like, it had a subtly smoky and sweet flavour, and there’s was just enough of a spicy kick. The frozen cocktails were also super fun and refreshing! For mains the salad was very very good. It doesn’t look like much but it was full of great textures and flavours (somehow tasted exactly like a taco). Tuna tostada was also amazing and so were the swordfish tacos. Everything was so so good, and I’ll definitely be coming back!!
Excellent Mexican food. We came for lunch and got all 3 tacos (pork, beef, lamb) and the tuna tostada to share. Ended with the Mexican chocolate flourless cake for dessert. Portions were very generous on the protein! Don’t underestimate the amount of food for the menu price. Quality was very high and so well delivered. Food was beautifully presented and the restaurant smelled great like palo santo wood. The bathrooms are disco themes and super cute. There is an indoor and outdoor covered patio section as well.
Excellent food, excellent setup, typical Brooklyn vibes, and a very cosy booth setup. Service is top notch, with a very attentive team. Food is definitely on an expensive side, and some of their tacos really live up to that price point. We tried a few appetizers including Oxomoco Guacamole ($19) and the Smoked Mango ($7). The mango lacked a spice kick, and was a little on the sweeter side. Couldn't really feel a smokey taste either. Would definitely visit again and will recommend to friends and family for some fancy Mexican food!
Good Mexican food. My husband is crazy about Mexican cuisine, so we’re always trying new places. The restaurant has a beautiful atmosphere, it was nice and warm, and the service was very good. The food is definitely good, but I found everything a bit too spicy and quite oily for my taste. It’s clearly a solid Mexican restaurant, but we’ve been to better ones. The carnitas tacos were definitely the highlight of the meal. I forgot to take photos of the food, but I did take one of the michelada. It was good as well, though not the best I’ve had.
My boyfriend and I had an amazing dinner at Oxomoco—our second visit, and it felt just as special. Chef Maria and her team were wonderful. We started with the guac and chips; the tortillas were perfectly crisp and the guacamole was vibrant and flavorful. The soy-marinated tostada was a standout—the aguachile salsa had a spicy kick but was incredibly addictive. For tacos, the maitake was deeply savory, the shrimp tacos were crunchy and well-seasoned, and the pork carnitas were fun to assemble and packed with flavor.
This restaurant is absolutely wonderful. The food was delicious, our waitress was incredibly knowledgeable of the menu and seemingly food (and wine) in general, and the atmosphere was delightful. I would recommend this place to anyone, especially given their corking fee is $50 which was perfect since our group was bringing wine from California for the table.
Went there for Lunch and had an amazing. Our waiter John did an amazing job explaining the offerings in the menu and recommended things we ended up absolutely loving. The bar had an incredible selection of quality tequila and mezcal. Great for connoisseurs. The food is $$$. But worth every penny with how delicious it is. Will definitely go back again.
WOW—is all I can say! Probably the best meal I’ve ever had in my life. We were an hour early to our dinner reservation and the kindly sat us. Immediately our waitress asked for our dietary restrictions and allergies and she talked us through the menu and was so knowledgeable. For drinks we had a guava mezcal margarita and the frozen IXMAND which were both super yummy. The guacamole and pink moon oysters were so fresh and delicious with every bite. We then had the beef tartar tostada which was my favorite and the carne asada platos. The service, atmosphere, all the flavors were absolutely Phenomenal we will be back!
Came with friends and was blown away by the ambiance. The lighting and ascetic was beautifully curated. Every dish was well balanced with incredible flavors and textures. The presentation was beautiful and the service was perfect. Dont skip on the desserts, well worth the indulgence. Oh and check out the bathroom, Disco ball!
Excellent food and staff. The drink menu is great with many NA options. They are also happy to modify drinks to make a mocktail version for you. The short rib was a meal highlight and don’t sleep on the desserts. The ambiance and staff are amazing. This is definitely a must visit restaurant! Shout out to Chef Justin, Chris, and Edith- you guys rock!
Service and atmosphere are top notch. The food was amazing. I enjoyed the steak tacos that were cooked to perfection and loaded with flavor. The salsa flight was very nice, and my favorite bite of the year was the caviar tuna tartare. Wow so so so good. Also their take on the mezcal espresso martini was the best I’ve ever had.
Whewwwwweee did I enjoy myself! First of all, it's gorgeous, so sunshine-y and green. We sat at the bar and the service was great. We ordered the cantaloupe slushies and they were so, so good! They weren't overly strong + they mix them themselves, just a few ingredients. The guac was a little small but delicious. The pork tacos were pretty expensive for 2, I thought, until I tasted them. WOW, so good. We were so busy catching up, we didn't realize they'd closed to get ready for dinner. They emphasized we hadn't overstayed our welcome, we could stay as long as we needed. And the disco-themed restroom + playlist? Excellente
This restaurant is Great! Two things- spicy salsa will catch up with you even if you're sure you're fine at first (I'm a weak, white boy from the Midwest, so even Mayo seems too spicy at times to me). 2. The bathroom is AMAZING! No really. Go. The service is Lovely! The dishes are great (it's NYC and good, so expect it will cost more). Recently they had some ventilation issue, so their menu has rapidly pared itself down. (Hence 4-stars on food, not 5- I really wanted to try their other offerings!) Regardless, look at these dishes! Relish in these cocktails! BEHOLD! OXOMOCO
We’re so glad we went out of our way to experience Oxomoco — this one Michelin star gem is absolutely worth the trip. From the moment you step inside, the bright, airy space transports you straight to Mexico. It’s laid-back yet elevated, with a vibe that’s both welcoming and effortlessly cool. The food is a celebration of authenticity and freshness. We started with the guacamole, served with warm, blue maiz tortillas straight off the comal — simple, but unforgettable. The tuna tartar with caviar was a surprising standout — delicate, flavorful, and unlike anything we’ve had before. And the steak tacos with tender, caramelized onions? Incredible. Each bite was perfectly balanced and deeply satisfying. The agave selection is beautifully curated, and the cocktails are a highlight on their own — each one tasting like a love letter to Mexican flavors and craftsmanship. If you’re into thoughtful, vibrant food that feels both familiar and innovative, Oxomoco is a must. We’d go out of our way again in a heartbeat.

This is one of our son's favorite restaurants in Brooklyn; he shared his find with us. For the 3 of us we ordered 2 of the LAMB BARBACOA TACOS (son's favorite), shrimp CEVICHE TOSTADA (my favorite…

We literally had to go through a concierge in order to get *any* reservations there and that was with 3 weeks notice. The only ones we could get were at 5:30 and when we arrived at 5:25 there was …
This Mexican place is fusion but has its own character. We enjoyed the twist in octopus and fish ceviche because the charred octopus added more flavor. The catch of the day tacos are amazing, with Thai basil and other fresh herbs make it so refreshing to balance the fried fish! Beef cheek tacos are also very flavorful and tender :) Lastly dont miss to finish with chocolate mousse with espresso ice-cream, you won’t regret that!
First, the great: order the chilaquiles for brunch. It’s a great non-traditional “elevated” take that retains all the beloved parts of the dish: the soggy-crunchy texture, the fried egg. The twists made sense, from the creamy non-spicy salsa to the hearty beans and mole crunch. It appeals to Americans’ preference for creamy foods. Also, if you can handle a bit of heat, order anything with salsa macha, a slightly spicy smoky-nutty chili oil. The bad: temperature and texture. It felt like most of the food sat at the counter for a long time before they got delivered to our table, or they didn’t even bother to cook the food. The tuna tostada and spring pea tlayuda sat on a soggy, leathery base. The chilaquiles did not touch the stove, just a bunch of chips tossed in sauce. The tacos arrived pretty close to room temp. Flavors were pleasant, but I expected something more intense or interesting from a Michelin place. Overall, the food’s pretty darn good for the price despite the flaws.
Amazing food! Loved it all.. some of my faves: lamb taco, tuna tostada and the Romain salad. A bit disappointed with their service, wanted to add one person to the reservation, called several times without the line working and finally when I got through they said no, even though we were open to squeeze in. When arrived, I saw other similar tables accommodate the same number of people that we were hoping to be. Ambiance very loud, it’s vibey but hard to hear each other.
With 10+ dollar a taco plates, places like this are usually iffy when it comes to the food, but the flavors were pretty on point. The soya marinated tuna tostada was a surprising sleeper appetizer given it’s off center plate presentation. Our waiter was high energy and super friendly. They are pretty particular about how food and drinks are served so don’t expect substitutions
I came here for my birthday and was quite underwhelmed with the food and service. Going to a Michelin star restaurant I had high expectations. The spicy marg was pretty bland and the 'elevated' food was unremarkable. Besides the tuna tostada, the caesar salad and pork carnitas were not at all interesting. The service was also mid - our waiter didn't check in much and told us we could only use small plates, only for another server to bring us larger ones. The experience does not justify the cost.
We got the smoked mango with chili and lime, I was really hoping for fresh mango, and I feel that would've worked well, maybe with some more lime, but that's on me for reading the description wrong. Tuna tostada was nice, heavy bite though. Last note is for the honeynut squash taco, maybe it was just an off night but the squash wasn't cooked through and they leave it in these weird big pieces so it was just sort of these hard squash blocks and it was hard to eat. That one might need some more time on the drawing board. HOWEVER. Some things were excellent. The mushroom tlayuda was a winner if ever there was one, great depth of flavor, texture, just a warm delicious cheesy mushroom crunchy dream with great spice and herbs. That's a must-order, as are the swordfish tacos which were so wonderful and so stunning it made the squash taco even harder to understand, but again, might've just been an off night for those. We had a bunch of pie at home so we skipped on dessert even though they sounded DAMN good. All in all, I was happy with it, but I'm not sure it's all the way worth the cost. Small servings. A tostado is half the size of the tacos but costs the same, and the taos themselves are small. Having a full satisfying meal would really rack up a bill. Still, it was a good time. Nice people, fast service. We got to sit at the chefs counter, it was cool to watch them doing their thing. And those tortillas are a dream.
Have been here twice over the years and absolutely loved it - though I will say a few things have been cycled out of the menu though I imagine the new additions are just as delightful. I would highly recommend the caesar salad as the lettuce is perfectly crunchy, the dressing tart and punchy, and the crumbs on top add just the right texture. The tuna tostada and pollo a las brazas are both great. I've had two different tlayudas - both great though not sure which they have available now. ALSO, the salsas are wicked spicy though a wonderful topping to a the extra crispy totopos. I'll definitely have to come back soon but would highly recommend! Also, the chocolate cake is divine!
Really great guacamole, smoked mango, swordfish, lamb, and crab. The nopalito was bonb must try. I went pre fire so the menu was a bit different. Also got the other frozen drink and tuna tostada. It was also good but not as good as everything else. We got two nopalito it’s refreshing and spicy and perfect. Guac was so complex just not enough chips for me lol. Great dinner. And staff was quite accommodating
Just visited this restaurant without knowing it had a Michelin one-star rating, but the moment I walked in, I fell in love with the cozy atmosphere and comfortable seating. We sat at the counter by the kitchen, which allowed me to fully enjoy watching the chefs in action—an experience I always appreciate when dining out. I highly recommend trying the Caesar salad. While it was slightly too saucy for my taste, the roasted flavors were unique and delicious. As for the chicken, I noticed a lot of reviews mentioned how juicy it is. From my seat near the kitchen, I saw the chicken sitting on the grill top for a while, but to my surprise, it was tender when I tried it (not juicy tho)The sauce had a distinctive, slightly bitter flavor that paired well with the rice it came with. The guava margarita is a must-try—it was fantastic! However, I found the guacamole just okay. Overall, the service was excellent, and the restaurant’s ambiance is warm and inviting. I’d rate it 4.5 out of 5 and am excited to return to explore more of the menu.
Came here for dinner recently on an early Sunday night. It was a bit of a hassle getting a table without a reservation, though I think the hostess on duty was new. We split the tostada and guac (excellent), papas bravas (excellent), Caesar salad (ok), soy tuna tostada (excellent), swordfish tacos (excellent), lamb barbacoa tacos (very good) and wagyu bavette (basically a DIY taco situation, very good). Service was fine. The interior is beautiful. Honestly our initial reaction collectively afterwards was surprise they had a Michelin star. It was a very good meal but didn’t feel like a great value for the money.
Amazing place with very unique decor. Great place for a friend date. I went there for early dinner and it was very open and bright. Waiters are very attentive. The only critique i can give is the steak tacos that i ordered have a kind of chili oil, the oil its self was a bit overwhelming making the taco hard to eat but besides that the food was unique and flavorful.
We went for brunch and really enjoyed it. Had the tuna tostada, steak and pork tacos, and the chocolate pancake which was absolutely the star of the show. The sauces across the board were amazing and really elevated everything. Portions are on the smaller side, so plan to order a few plates. A bit pricier than expected for brunch, but the food quality definitely delivered. Would come back.
Being my first time in New York City I was taken to a quaint little Mexican restaurant in Brooklyn. Now coming from Los Angeles where we have exceptional Mexican food all over the city. Try some outside of California is a bit of a treat. Oxomoco has some very good dishes on an elevated level. They use high quality ingredients for all there dishes lending to elevated taste. The fish tacos were great tender flaky fish with a nice not too spicy slaw on top. Chips and salsa that had multiple levels of heat you get five salsas to try. The crab tostada was nice a flavorful and the wagyu beef cheek were tender with a nice mole sauce. They also have a nice mix of tequila and mezcal drinks for you to choose from. The menu is small but has something for everyone. All the dishes we had were very delicious and the atmosphere was great. Indoor and patio dining is available. Oh make sure you make reservations so you don’t have to wait if you want inside. If you’re in Brooklyn swing by and give them a try. You won’t be disappointed.

For a Michelin rated restaurant, I have to be honest in saying that I was underwhelmed. When dining at Michelin rated establishments I'm looking for bursts of flavor, a water glass that never gets empty & a table that is always clean. Unfortunately at Oxomoco, in some cases, this didn't prevail. We also had a slight issue with management which was appalling, so I left Oxomoco saying, I'll probably never return. The space is absolutely beautiful, when I entered it was if I was transported to a cafe in Mexico City. I was there for brunch with some girlfriends to celebrate a bridal party and we were super excited to dine and fellowship. As we got started, I ordered the Jamaica Agua Fresca. It was light & refreshing, not overly sweet or overpowering. However, my glass seemed to have a crack in it. When I picked it up in an attempt to drink it, a red ring was cemented on our beautiful wood table. I alerted our waitress and she immediately got me another glass, but I had to ask for the stain to be cleaned up as it was a bit of an eye sore. Nonetheless, after asking, it was handled swiftly. We then ordered chilaquiles, a tuna tostada (not pictured) and a Caesar salad as our appetizers. The chilaquiles were phenomenal and my favorite dish of the day. I didn't eat the tostada but the girls seemed to enjoy. The Caesar salad, mixed reviews. Plating was beautiful but the dressing was almost too tangy for some. But the tacos, were severely underwhelming. We ordered the steak, lamb & pork tacos. Unfortunately, they didn't seem to get a lick of salt in the seasoning & the grease spilled out of the steak. The lamb and pork were drastically dry and the steak was overly greasy. For a $22 price point, the size and taste, absolutely not. Now the issue with management starts here. 4 pork tacos were ordered so that each of us could have one. The first two girls took a bite of theirs and immediately put it down saying they did not like the taste at all. Myself & my other friend took a bite of their tacos to see what they meant and we concurred. Dry and no flavor. This prompted us to have no desire to continue eating the pork taco. Now mind you, as we dined, no one stopped by our table to ask how everything was. So at the end of the meal, when our waitress finally did, we told her that we didn't enjoy the pork tacos and pointed to the two that had two bites in them and the two that remained untouched. We then asked if we could take the two untouched off of the bill. The waitress said she'll take care of it and we thought that was all. However, the manager then came over & delivered an arrogant speech. She said the kitchen doesn't take back food so they're doing us a favor, if we didn't like the tacos, there are tacos for everyone so she's not sure what the issue was, and that we should have said something earlier rather than waiting for the end of the meal. We alerted her that no one from the staff checked on us so that we had the opportunity to tell them that we were disappointed in those tacos and when the opportunity arose, we took our chance. Also, she said that after food is sent out from the kitchen that it can't be taken back. It may not be re-served, but the options at that point are the customer eats it or it's tossed as waste, which most restaurants have a budget for. Her tone in all of this was arrogant, condescending and completely uncalled for. And our lovely bride told her such which resulted in an apology. She then came back after, apologizing again, and said there was a miscommunication regarding what she was told about the tacos. What the miscommunication was, I'm not sure, but the apology was again given. The waitress then brought us all complimentary margaritas to seal the apology, star for customer service. All in all it was a good dining experience because my girls & I have a good time anywhere we are. Unfortunately, I would not recommend this establishment. For high quality & fine dining experiences there are better bangs for your buck.
I would describe Oxomoco as an upscale, Mexican fusion, tapas style restaurant that's perfect for light eaters. What I liked: Although the dining area is a little loud, the ambiance is nice and the staff is really friendly. The flavors are bright, tasty and pretty unique. The heirloom corn tortillas are also quite nice. The bathrooms are a fun, almost silly, experience in and of themselves. It's like using the toilet in the middle of a psychedelic planetarium hosting a disco rave. What I didn't like: I really wouldn't call the "salsa" salsa per say. It's really more like an assortment of moles and hot sauces than salsa. A few of them were pretty good but I prefer more traditional salsa. This is a picky preference so take it with a grain of salt. Probably my biggest con is the portion sizes and that there's really not much hardiness to be had generally. I realize that's the nature of tapas but offering sides with some hardiness would be nice. We were told that the chicken dish is heavier but that it would be better to try during a revisit so we could try a variation of flavors. I'm sure this was sound advice but I still had to stop for a pizza slice on our way back so I could feel satiated. Overall Oxomoco is good but maybe not my personal dig enough to call it great.
I've walked past Oxomoco many times before finally deciding to make a reservation. I arrived on a Sunday evening right when they opened, and to my surprise, there was already a line outside. The restaurant is small and cozy, with a mix of tables, bar seating, and a chef's counter. Unfortunately, I didn't find the staff particularly welcoming. One staff member, in particular, seemed like he wasn't enjoying his job, which was a bit off-putting. Now, onto the food! Each taco order includes two tacos. I'll preface this by saying I eat a lot, and despite being warned about over-ordering, I went all in--so here's the rundown: - Chips and Salsa: A must-order! The chips were freshly made, incredibly crunchy, and perfectly salted. The variety of salsas and sauces was impressive, and every single one was absolutely delicious. - Oxomoco Guacamole: A classic and well-executed dish. The guacamole was fresh and flavorful, made with whole heirloom cherry tomatoes and served with a side of chips. - Mushroom Tlayuda: Skip this one. It's essentially a thin-crust mushroom pizza with red sauce, but the flavors didn't work well together in my opinion. - Coctel de Mariscos: This is similar to ceviche and had a tasty, flavorful sauce. However, the portions were small, with the seafood cut into bite-sized pieces. - Swordfish Tacos: Soft, tender, and cooked to perfection. A solid choice. - Shrimp Tacos (Special): Outstanding! The fried shrimp was slightly charred, flavorful, juicy, and absolutely addictive. - Pollo a las Brazas: This was the juiciest chicken I've had in a while, with fantastic flavors. The crispy red rice it was served with was a great accompaniment. It's a generous entree, likely half a chicken, and well worth ordering. As for the drinks, the cocktails were just okay, and the wine menu was limited with not many options. I also noticed that some items listed on the online menu were unavailable in person, which was a little disappointing. Overall, I'd come back for the chips and salsa and to explore more of their taco options. However, it's not a spot I'd go out of my way for unless I was already in the area.
Tasty but expensive for the portions. $28+ for two small tacos is a big ask when the flavors are busy and it doesn’t leave a memorable impression. $25+ for one tostada. $20+ for a bowl of guacamole with 4 chips and maybe 1 avocado’s worth of guac… Menu is small, no chicken entrees and only one vegetarian entree. Interior design is beautiful and service was good, but for the price we left hungry and had to head elsewhere for more food.

All in all, I’d have been disappointed for half the price. The atmosphere and service were lovely, but the food was not good. I’ve had better for five dollars, and it isnt in the same universe as a street taco in any city in Mexico or California. I was disappointed; I really wanted to like it as I’ve never been to a Michelin star Mexican place. We shared about 10 dishes between us, so I don’t think it’s a selection issue. Everything was pretty rich and fatty, with one-note flavors; the mole definitely didn’t have any depth and the meats and veggies were salt forward and the flavor didn't really shine. I’m guessing the ingredient quality is pretty high, but it didnt come through at all. There weren’t many bright or fresh flavors, except in the macha salsa, which had a note of lime I’ve never had before—I’ll be adding that at home! On a side note, we were seated outside in sub freezing weather, and couldn’t turn up the heat lamps. Not a huge deal but I think they should close their patio or warn patrons that they will be seated outside ahead of time.
I really wanted this place to be amazing - it just wasn’t. We had a reservation for 8:30 and didn’t get seated until 8:55. The service was honestly pretty dismissive and inattentive. When we paid at the end we felt like she just wanted us to leave and felt unwelcome. The food, however, was worse. The guac and caeser salad were good and we were excited for the rest of the meal. Sadly, we still don’t even know if the shrimp torta was good or not. That should not be a question. The tacos were okay but the flavor combinations didn’t make sense and simply didn’t work together. The steak was tender and the fish was fresh, but aside from that, there were no redeeming qualities. Overall, we have no idea how this place has received good reviews - let alone a Michelin star. Comparatively to other Michelin restaurants, this spot sadly is at the bottom of my list and we will not be returning. Again, we wanted this place to blow our socks off and left disappointed and unfulfilled.
Honestly just go somewhere else. Not worth the price nor was the food that good. Looks like the Aguachile changes from time to time but whichever one we got with leeks and green apple was the most bland, flavorless dish ive ever had. Partner liked the nori chip, I didn’t. He said that was the only good thing of the dish. Portion size was very small and it was $35 (came with two large chips). Then we got the Taco Arabe, the amount of meat on the taco was good but $29 for two tacos just doesn’t sit right. It was decent but definitely not worth the price. Save your money and go somewhere else for a 1/3 of the price that tastes way better.
Over rated. Over priced. Came here for our anniversary. Tuna tostada and stake was exceptional everything else was just Ok. Took over 15 minutes between servings. Took almost 15 min to get check on Wednesday night. Walk in any random bakery in Jackson Heights or Corona and you can get Tres leches cake less dry with more flavors for fraction of the cost. White and Asian people trap(if you ask me) of pretending to be Mexican cuisine. Just because you include tortilla with your dishes and pour tequila like it's going out of style doesn't make your food Mexican. As good as $85 steak was it came with tortilla, baked baby potatoes and salad.... this is as far from Mexican as you can get except for the tortilla. Just one person opinion

The inside atmosphere is great but that's where it stops. Honestly the menu is kind of whack. We ordered five separate dishes to get a good sampling and nothing really stood out. At the end of the day you're paying a lot for lackluster dishes. It's like they're trying too hard to be different or something, how about staying true to Mexican food and doing the basics really well. They're lost in the sauce. Honestly confused as to how they got a Michelin star.
I have never left a restaurant review in my life and was inspired to because I had exceptionally bad service here. Our waitress didn’t welcome us in, say hi, walk us through the menu structure, or how many plates to order she simply said “what do you want” immediately after we sat down. The food was good but I would not recommend anyone go here because of the bad experience. I had high hopes for this place and it’s been on my list forever so it was sad to leave the restaurant so disappointed especially having spent $120+ per person. At the end of the meal (and we dined for a normal amount of time) they dropped off the check unprompted without even showing us the dessert menu because I’m sure they just wanted to turn over the table as quick as possible. Something weird is going on there and it’s definitely NOT a Michelin star experience by any means. Unfortunately I would not recommend dining here when there are so many other wonderful NYC restaurants that have welcoming service and great food.
I loved the place before yesterday dinner. The hostess and the waiter played a weird game, said that we couldn't sit at the table near the wall because it was reserved, but there's no option online to reserve a particular table (the restaurant was almost empty when we came at 5:40pm as we booked). The server was totally unprofessional and showed her attitude. When we left only $50 as a tip(I wanted to leave zero, but my friend decided to leave some) she walked to the stand and showed it to other servers and the host so everyone looked at us funny as we were leaving. Guys if you have a reputation of Michelin and my regular check at your restaurant is at least $400 I'd like to have a waiter with no attitude. Take it as a friendly advice 😉 not me nor my friends will come back tho. Thank you for being one of my fav restaurant for all these years, good luck with such servers.
I had a very disappointing experience at this Michelin-starred restaurant. After waiting an unusually long time for our dishes, we were given peanuts and a sesame horchata as compensation for their tardiness. I found a fish bone in the sesame horchata after finishing the drink. This is a serious food safety issue. When we reported it, the staff took the bone away “to check.” Almost all the servers were called into the kitchen and they were in it for about 5 minutes. We believed that they were talking about this issue, so we waited for the result, but instead of any explanation or apology, another staff member came over pretending not to know what had happened and simply asked us to pay the bill. She even began with “How’s everything?” When knowingly that we questioned about the fish bone. When we questioned her directly, she repeatedly denied it was a fish bone after we told her that it was a serious health hazard. She just rushed us to pay the bill. This lack of accountability and honesty is shocking, especially for a one-star Michelin restaurant. No acknowledgment, no explanation, and no compensation were offered. For an establishment with such a reputation, this is completely unacceptable. While we were waiting for their answer in the restaurant, the staff kept on holding out the POS machine, we paid the bill without asking for further explanation. But we weren’t satisfied with the they dealt with this issue. We wish to receive a more sensible and respectful response as we leave this review.
