What I have learned and seen in NY, small businesses with little eating space. This little restaurant is a gem, though. Whomever made my breakfast sandwich it was made with love. Fresh and hot!
Had a really good caramel iced latte and a great egg sandwich (sunrise sandwich). Kind of a picky eater but the arugula and garlic aioli was sooo good. Only bad thing is the menu is a little limited and of course it’s a little pricey. It’s indigenous peoples day and there are a bunch of people on laptops hogging tables, idk if that’s different on a weekday / non holiday.
The environment was nice and the waiters were very sweet, however I think that the food was generally ok. Nothing was bad but nothing was really good. The overall experience was nice though.
I spend a couple hours here a couple times a week and I bring friends who are visiting here. The Sunrise sandwich is delicious as is everything on their menu that I've tried. I like the Sunrise sandwich on the croissant more than the roll. I don't smoke, but the smoking on the patio reminds me of Europe (a good thing -- especially when I see the whiny, new-to-Bushwick hipsters get offended that someone dare smoke... in a smoking area). I like the vibe, but it can get packed on weekends. Small kitchen, so service can be slow... but it's worth the wait.
I was lucky enough to be invited here on a Thursday night. I met Niko! That's what I have to say. He's an amazing, empathetic, down to earth human that is very knowledgeable about the offerings here at this super cute space. I came too late to indulge in the food. I will be back to try those. I asked him to make me a tequila based drink but surprise me. I was pleasantly surprised. I don't know if this drink has a name but it's cool and refreshing for a tequila based drink. I will ask for it again. Coming back for the French toast BEC! And Mac and cheese. A great night indeed !
Nico is the best! I moved to the city recently and Sunrise/Sunset immediately became my go-to coffee shop. He quickly memorized my order and has always greeted me like a friend! It makes the big city feel a bit more like home. The coffee and food are incredible but the personalized and friendly service is what keeps me coming back! :)
Popped by here this afternoon and it was heavenly! The service is always so good on Mondays and the atmosphere really cozy & welcoming. The baristas are so nice and really go above and beyond to make you feel welcome. This is my regular spot and I will be back many more times!
I got SCARED I walked in to the storefront / cafe and I did not see breakfast anywhere. I then realized it just opened lol . I love the music the vibe and the coffee ......... great biscuits and gravy and a side of sausage ...... very inexpensive and the place is perfect ... look at the school chairs ! So hipster
Finally went to Sunrise/Sunset after meaning to come here after moving to Bushwick over a year ago but kept slipping my mind. I finally made it and have been a new regular. Super great oat-milk lattes (my jam) and had an amazing Aperol Spritz from the most friendly bartender there but dang, I didn't ask his name or would otherwise give him kudos. Aperol Spritz can very much vary in quality and taste. I've had some amazing ones and some completely terrible ones (haha). Love the blue exterior and the orange interior but think the place could be spiced up a bit with some fun art by local artists (ahem, happy to provide), and maybe more comfy seating since I personally hate hardback chairs but other than that, super delightful place. I want to come back for the collage event and Friday jazz nights as I both love art and live music, especially jazz. I love that a place like this offers fun events like that. Oh yes, one more thing.....by random chance I discovered a little narrow back patio which has to be the best part of the establishment. Was romantic on a summer night as people were playing games and having stellar convos (or so it seemed). Seems to be more of a younger crowd (Bushwick theme) but have seen a bit of all varieties of the human species. :)
This is a cozy cafe, which would be perfect for getting some work done, but also a great place to grab a drink or a meal! The rustic risotto ($12) was delicious and the first time I've had risotto made with farro. The BLT ($11), mushroom mac ($9), and lox toast ($12) were also solid choices and filling enough for dinner, with reasonable prices. They also have changing daily soups. The orange wine was refreshing and light. On top of that, the servers are so sweet and attentive!
Outside area is quiet, pretty, and fun for a group. Inside is whateva. Good coffee drinks and nice to have a pastry selection. The food that was available was delicious, but there was a surprising lack of burgers (none) considering the quantity of burgers on the menu. I didn't like the price but I was also really tired so I might have been biased.
Sunrise/Sunset Layout/atmosphere *Coffee shop by day, bar by night; bar area, tables; tables on sidewalk Service *Food took a little bit to come out Food/drink *Chicken Salad Sandwich (oven roasted chicken, spicy mayo, and fresh herbs) on sourdough roll - good; toasted roll; little kick from mayo *Blueberry Crumb Muffin - good; small bits of crumb cake inside *Latte (Iced/Oat Milk) - solid
Come in, hit the counter, settle down and prepare for some good eats! The French Toast was absolutely bangin', the tapanade grilled cheese was tremendously decadent, and the cold brew was refreshing and bold. If you need a quick and reasonably priced meal, this is a great place to get that need satisfied!
once came here for drinks and was told 2 drinks in they didn't have a working bathroom(wouldn't let people use the staff one), had to walk my ass home to pee, should definitely disclose that before serving alcohol. Not really a great brunch spot or a great bar, awkward table setup, always another customer yelling on the phone indoors or having a fight. food is mid
The wait times for food are long (15m for a side). The portions are laughable for the prices. $5 side of potatoes when the bag of fingerlings that weighs a pound is $5. This is about 1/4 of that. Their avocado toast is also like one piece of bread and a quarter of an avocado. The coffee quality is highly dependent on the barista. Often the shots are very long or inconsistent (ranging from 13s-23+s) and very bitter. I really like two of the workers there, very personable and define the room's atmosphere. Sunrise/sunset is mainly saved by the fact there's nothing else around. Also once saw that a worker was opening right after closing which makes me upset on their behalf given the hours of the operation. Their mushroom burger is good. A lot of the food tastes good, but is poorly portioned and the quality is not standardized.
Its a good spot to hang w friends. Its cozy and good atmosphere. Good coffee but the food fell short for me. I ordered the salad chicken sandwich. It was very small, the said the baguette sandwich one was a good portion. I was totally dissatisfied! Still hungry after I finished my sandwich. Also, overpriced for this small sandwich. Very disappointed!
Hipsters are going crazy in this neighborhood! Ordered a cup of soup and a sandwich, the server stated that they were short on the soup there’s was only a bit left (at top of the lunch hour) she gave me a discount and charged me $10 bucks for what you see in the picture! Whatta rip off ! Waited 20min to be served leftover soup and a lousy sandwich that they didn’t even bother to toast the bred… by the way, it’s 86’ outside and they had the AC blowing on 79’…
