Amazing host and service. The food was delicious, specially the dessert. I would definitely go back , great greek dishes and outstanding overall experience
The most awesome Greek Food in Brooklyn. Great service, family friendly, ample portions and reasonable prices. Highly recommended! 1/6/2023 - I had the baked Feta this evening. It is so good, it reminded me of being on vacation in the Mediterranean. Mind blowing great! 5/19/2023 - I treated a client who lives in Greece to Athena's cuisine. He missed Greek food and longed for a taste. The dining experience reminded him of being home. Always a great meal at Athena!
Really great food! We went here on a whim and had a great experience. The Greek salad was great but the mashed potatoes with black olives were fantastic! Our branzino was perfectly grilled. The portions were too much for us to finish. We had a fantastic time and cannot wait to return
Just moved to the neighborhood and finally got to check this place out. The vibe is so warm and welcoming. The service was incredible; Spiro and his team are amazing, and so was the food. It was one of the best dining experiences we've had in a while , perfect for a cozy date night. Highly recommend.
I’ve not been to a Greek restaurant in a while because I live rurally where we don’t have these. This restaurant was so enjoyable. There was no music which made it easy to talk. It was a full house. We were there for a birthday, it was all very nicely done.
We adore this restaurant and we've brought many family members and friends here for dinner. The food is so tasty, and vegetarians will be pleased by the offerings, not just the meat eaters. 😋 The appetizers and soup are also special.
I had the best experience with Athena for catering my post marathon party. They were incredibly accommodating and responsive. The food was also amazing and perfect for a party. Couldn’t recommend more.
So delicious I plan special trips just to eat here. The food maintains standards, portions exceed expectations, and prices make sense. The people at Athena Mediterranean Cuisine are consistently friendly. This spot speaks to those who appreciate good meals. The cost here is justified.
the food was exactly what we were craving. Bright, fresh, and plain good. We also enjoyed their hospitality. The chef/owner came out himself to make sure we're enjoying our food, and even offered us a free desert. I think this place will become a staple for us.
Athena Mediterranean Cuisine in Park Slope is an absolute gem. From the moment we walked in, the staff made us feel completely at home—warm, welcoming, and genuinely happy to have us there. The service was above and beyond. Not only was everything served with a smile, but the staff even offered to prepare off-menu dishes just to make sure we were happy—without us even asking! The food was spot on. The octopus was tender and full of flavor, and the fried calamari hit all the right notes—crispy, not greasy, and really fresh. The place itself is spotless and comfortably air-conditioned, which was perfect for escaping the heat outside. One of the nicest touches: the chef personally greets the tables, which just adds to the family-style vibe of the place. And after we paid, he brought over a surprise shot of what he called "Windex"—a bright blue drink made with Curaçao, Greek anise, and who knows what else. Sounds odd, but it was actually delicious, and by then we trusted them with anything. Highly recommend—100%. If you're in the neighborhood, this is the kind of place that makes you want to come back, not just for the food, but for the people too.
Incredible service! Homey, intimate atmosphere. The food was excellent! Had the Krya Pikilia, Elliniki Salata, and Spanakopita - my husband and I agreed the spanakopita was the best we’ve ever had! Lots of vegetarian options in the menu. We came in just after 8pm on a Tuesday and were in and out in 45 min feeling full and satisfied.
This has been one of my favorite places to eat since 2015. Thought I actually already wrote a review. Spiro & his brother Teddy are consummate hosts & restaurateurs. It's almost like they're on stage presenting you Today's Specials and yet for the audience of one. They do it with aplomb, grace, hospitality, and big smiles always. Now the food. I've probably had half the entrées, the appetizers, and can't leave without a piece of their. Mouth orgasm delicious bread pudding 😋😍🤤 They're simply the best 👌🏾 👍🏾 😍 #LocalGem #theresthatfoodie #GreekFood
Found a welcoming place for a very late brunch on Fathers Day. Service was attentive and pet-friendly in an outdoor sitting that was nicely set up. Ordered a bunch of appetizers and salad and had a wonderful time. The calamari was crisp and tender, flambed halloumi cheese was tasty, loved the briny taramosalata dip with pita, giant fava beans in tomato braise, dolmas and Beet salad.
Very good Greek restaurant. Authentic look, authentic food and drinks with fantastic quality! Good prices. Very, very knowledgeable and friendly staff. Highly recommend, just try it and you will be coming back. I got there Greek food, Greek cognac and Greek wine, all was excellent! Person who was servicing as, his name is Spiridon and he is the best!
Food: 4.8 Vibes: 4 Service: 5 Overall: 4.6 Went with two friends on Friday night 730pm. It wasn’t as crowded as i thought it might be. This place is a true neighborhood gem. The food was delicious but what makes this place so special is the service and the owner. They were so friendly and helpful and we loved them. They made us feel right at home!
Athena's is the best place in Brooklyn for Authentic Greek food !! Not sure how many ways to say this. Spiro & his staff are absolutely the best, they treat you as if you are family. Do yourself a favor & just try their food, you will not be disappointed ! Update: Nothing has changed, always the most amazing food. Teddy & staff are as always the best ! Tried the White Clam Sauce with Penne, absolutely incredible ! Definitely need a spoon to eat all the clams after you've eaten the pasta !
Came here with high expectations but ended up pretty disappointed... Service was nice but super slow. The food was also very meh overall. We ordered: - Krya Pikilia (I liked the Tzatziki and eggplant spread but the hummus was very underwhelming) - Sardeles (nicely charred but a tad too salty) - Deep Fried Cheese Balls (felt more like dessert than appetizer since they added honey) - Spartan Combo (I didn't really like any of the pastichio, moussaka, or spinach pie... The flavor felt a little off)
I love Greek cuisine very much, but this has never happened to me! We ordered appetizers and were already quite full, so when the main dishes arrived, we were pleasantly surprised by the size of the portion. Unfortunately, I couldn’t finish my portion of Pork Kebab, so we asked to take everything home. The waiter still asked why we want to do this? Because it's delicious! I had half of the whole portion left, but when I opened the food at home, I discovered that they put only 2 pieces of meat and a bit rice. Apparently, I just paid for the dinner of a working waiter in this restaurant. I'm shocked, this has never happened to me in any country in the world!
We showed up 4:45 after seeing a show at The Gallery Players down the street. Admittedly there were 8 of us and we didn’t have a reservation, but we were hungry and ready to eat. The guy who greeted us had an attitude almost immediately, told us we could only eat outside (which was what we wanted in the first place) and then proceeded to chastise us for not making a reservation. Honestly, that one interaction changed the tone of our whole group and no one felt welcomed after that, so we quickly decided that another restaurant in the neighborhood would probably be more welcoming and appreciative of our business.
