Local no-frills carry-out Soulfood shop with buffet-style food presentation, platter choices, and no seating but a spacious pick-up area. It's akin to Boston Market, but pricier, serving a fusion of black American/ Caribbean/Jamaican food, in larger portions. The food is fine and flavorful but overpriced. I ordered using an Uber Eats buy one, get one deal (on entrées). For prices, I issued 3 stars instead of 4. They do not have Sorrel, Carrot juice, or other Caribbean classics. Re: Food - they offer Caribbean-inspired Soulfood, which includes meat, dairy, gluten, garlic, onions, shellfish & seafood, eggs, and nuts. The nuts are usually in desserts like carrots cake (with choopped nut toppings). The dinner plate and cake portions are large. Best to consult the staff if you have major concerns! They seem indifferent but are responsive to requests. Plenty of veggies, fish, and dairy options for vegetarians. There aren't as many choices for vegans and there is still potential cross-contamination with animal products. Desserts include Red Velvet cake, Blue Velvet cake, Carrot cake, and what looked like Rum cake. Venue - The meals are kid-friendly and the venue itself is plain - neither offensive or entertaining. This is a takeaway restaurant so do not expect to sit down or settle kids in. Per other reviews, there is sometimes a long wait for pick-up/ to order. You know your child so plan accordingly. PS - We visited late at night so the buffer looks a bit bare. I'm sure they are better stocked earlier in the day.

This store is crowded, food is good but too much oily in fish & chips. I was wondering they charge you extra if don’t pay by cash. They call it as a cash pay discount will be added if you don’t pay cash. Employees are well behaved, clean store. Take out most , dine in few chairs only.

I tried this spot for the first time. I got me fried shrimp with barbecue sauce, Mac and cheese, and candied yams. The food was good. My favorite food on the plate was the Mac and cheese it was good and I wished there was more on my plate. My least favorite food on the plate were the yams. They weren’t bad but I wish it was more sweeter. The shrimp was also good but they drenched in barbecue so it loss it’s crisp but I still enjoyed it.

I love ordering from here my issue is the price went up. But we’re getting small portions I’d rather pay $30 for one plate of lamb chops and get a decent size lamb chops instead of these baby lollipop would barely meet on the bone lamb chops. The brand is diminishing, and things I ordered in the past have not been consistent. The flavors are still good but the portions and quality of the food have been smaller and poorly prepared. I ordered 100 pieces of chicken on Wednesday, 10/15 for a church event on Sunday,10/19. Food was supposed to be ready at 12PM. It was not ready until 1:10PM. The owner was unapologetic and nasty about their lateness. I will not use their service again. I like service with a smile.

I’m try to support minority owned businesses but this just ain’t right. Dispute the fact that they take forever to prepare the food, on numerous occasions they have been notoriously rude, on my last and final visit they served me a plate of grease. Which I couldn’t really figure out where all the grease came from since I only ordered jerk shrimp, Mac & cheese and collard greens. Any who, they’re wayyy to expensive to not have your meal perfect( especially after taking 40 mins to prepare it, but that’s another story) when it arrives.

Took over 20 minutes to get a simple fish sandwich, with no line. The bread was wet, had a mushy textured. Ordered a salad and got yellow, wilted, and rotting lettuce. Will not go back. This place used to be good, no idea what happened but this was the most disgusting meal I’ve been served in recent memory. Update 10/09/19 So google just sent me an update to say over 800k people have seen this review and photo. I’ll happily amend my review if the management of this location or executive team of the overall brand reach out to me to discuss this situation.

As i proceed to order my food i was told i could make any substitute on anything that comes with fries.and we could not put two items on the menu together we would have order them sperated and pay the individual price and they can not change anything that fried to grilled, cause grilled items only come with the sandwichs and salads. so after trying figure out what we wanted to eat we waited,. after stand around in cold restuarant for 45 minutes i ask what the hold up with the food i seen people come and order food and leave and im still waiting here for 6 items i was told by the cashier to ask the cook. i ask the cook what the hold up was he responded he had no fries to make with the order. so i ask why didnt anyone inform so i can get another side if thier was no fries available cause when i came in the store it wasn't busy? he replied he had to wait so i had to wait ! so at this point im like this food better be good i order a combo jr with to additional sides and a sister had the grits and fried shrimp instead of the grilled shrimp she wanted. we got our food and to tell you it was a big let down. the grits was undercooked, the fish and fried shimp was underseason and the fries was soggie . the candy yams was just sugar and cloves the only that was good was the collards greens and the mac and cheese .. customer was a 5 and half cause it was cold so i can understand the bad news Attitude i only recommend the mac and cheese and collards green and only go in the summer time

Horrible customer service I was ignored and receive raw shrimp 🍤!!!! I made a order on uber eats pickup for the buy one get one free, I walked to location from home about a 20 mins walk. when I arrived it was crowded I waited 10 mins then asked about my order I got no response I waited then asked again I received an attitude and that I needed to wait when I got home I attempted to eat the shrimp it was raw !!!! I took it back to location! Honestly unacceptable to serve raw food to customers !!!! I would of post the picture but I trashed the food at the restaurant

I am so tired of this restaurant and its customers. People are always double parked outside or there’s a whole bunch of delivery guys on their bikes. Mind you, there is a bus stop right in front of the restaurant so it’s always blocked by cars or delivery drivers. The driver of the bus I was on today, had to keep honking until one of the customers came out to move their car so the bus could drive through. The food doesn’t even look all that good for it to be all these people waiting.

I ordered through under eats and was not given all my food and was horrible now I love me some best style fish fries. I ordered from there all the time, but in person never ordered it or for Uber eats before in my life and I will never order. Uber eats again. There’s no way to get in contact with anyone about the missing food or about getting my money back and I was still charged over $50 for a no plate of food.

Haven’t visited this location in a few yrs. Stopped going because of the Increases in prices while the food became more and more tasteless and small in potions. Today 12/29/23.I decided to give it another try only because I was passing through the neighborhood.Debated on if I really wanted to give this spot another shot and hunger made me do it. I must say the food was absolutely Horrible, they even take out the food with no care in the world just slamming your food down, got home and couldn’t even eat the sides because it was that tasteless. The only thing that saved the meal was the BBQ sauce on the chicken which made it okay to eat.This location has continuously went down hill in taste and service.This is shameful that this establishment is called a soul food joint and the food is ridiculously horrible. I Will never return. Best of luck to this restaurant.

Best fish fry on Halsey Street food was the worst I ever had. The collard greens did not taste right and when I chew the collard greens, I was chewing something hard and crunchy. The potato salad did not taste good. I had to put mayonnaise and relish and a little bit of onions in my potato salad at home. The fish taste like it was cooked in old oil and it repeated on me. It was not a good meal. The best meal that I have ever had from bedside fish fry was on Utica Avenue. They are the best they taste is the best. Their portion size was the best

I just went to this restaurant to pick up a delivery order, but at the same time there were like at least ten drivers waiting to pick up food. I don’t know what’s so special about this place that so many people like ordering from them. But if you’re not able to handle that many orders, then please don’t accept too much orders at the same time, or maybe you should hire more staff. Well I only had one order to pick up, while some other drivers had two or three. I waited at least 20 minutes, and my order still wasn’t ready. Also, the staff here are very rude. Don’t order from this place, because you’ll have to wait a very, very long time to get your order.

I don’t normally get on here and leave reviews but after 3 times I had enough. I order from this restaurant often on uber eats and normally get what I ordered but lately they have been putting whatever they want on my plate. I think it’s rude and shows terrible customer service. As a restaurant, you should never assume and place food on someone’s plate as a replacement. you have no idea what allergies they have. ESPECIALLY since you’ve removed allergy requests! Your best bet would be to reach out to the customer in any way you can to find a substitute or NOT BE GREEDY and just cancel the order. I would rather you do that than send me something I can’t eat and let uber process the return. It reflects poorly on your business. I’m going to leave this review and never order again. Because if I was to come in person I would never be treated as such.

We decided to try this restaurant and ordered off of uber eats. Our order was stuck in ‘preparing’ for almost two hours, with several delivery drivers arriving only to report that the restaurant was super crowded and our food wasn’t ready. Eventually, after 5 delivery drivers cancelled, uber eats cancelled the order and we’re guessing the food was never prepared for the entire two hours that we waited. Definitely a disappointing experience.

Ordered with Uber Eats. There is never a time that I order the order is right. It’s extremely frustrating and the fact they never answer their phone is disappointing. Food is salty and bland. Do better. Love some soul food but this isn’t it.
