BK9 is a really great restaurant. I visited on a Friday evening at 6pm or so. We decided to go here right be4 the Ladies Night Barclay Center concert. It was packed. The upstairs section was full from wall to wall. It was out of control up there. When i walked in, i was worried i wouldnt feel comfortable or have space. However, they have a downstairs. Seems weird at first but its so spacious. The air was flowing and the music was on and playing all the classic 90's. If upstairs is too full i highly recommend going down stairs. Our waiter was a really young man. I could tell he was a teen or really early 20's. He was charming, tried his best, was very attentive and we loved him. The drink menu was labeled Ladies Night which i though was impressive and such a good business move. I do believe that the drinks could of used more variety of alcohol. Only one drink was made with tequila. The rest were mostly rum, literally 9 out of 14. My mom ordered a Margarita. I got a jack and cocacola. We ordered the mussels, jerk wings and fried snapper entree. The mussels were delicious and completely different then any i have tasted. They steamed the mussels in a curry sauce. It was spicy but not overly spicy. I really enjoyed it and it was served with toasted bread. The jerk wings were also really good. The color on them was perfect. They were juicy, spicy, flavorful and not too big. The snapper was okay. Out of everything we ordered, it was my least favorite meal. My husband is haitian and I'm use to eating djon djon rice and fish prepared this way. However, the rice needed more flavor and it was really dry. The fish itself was okay. It wasn't huge, perfect sizing. It was really filling as well. Overall i highly recommend it here. I can't wait to visit again. The food, service and vibes here are everything. Don't forget they have a downstairs section. If its too packed upstairs ask to be seated down stairs, you wont regret it.
I went to this amazing spot. I was greeted warmly. I had a reservation and was early; I was seated right away because it wasn't that busy, yet. My server was very nice. She gave me time to review the menu. I knew what I wanted to eat, but could not decide on a cocktail. I asked for a recommendation and was told the rude boy was good. Unfortunately, it was not for me. I asked for the Bajan rum punch and honey, it was everything I needed in a cocktail and more. A lovely mix of hibiscus and rum - so tasty! I started my meal off the Mussels and Toast. The curry broth these delicate morsels swam in was out of this world!! Short of tipping the bowl to my lips and devouring the rest of that broth after I sopped up as much of that broth with my toast would have been down right embarrassing (next time, I will ask for a to- go cup!). The blend of curry and butter gave the broth such a richness, it added so much flavor to the mussels. My entree was the Griot, which came with Djon Djon rice, Picklz and Green plantain with a delicious side sauce. Everything was seasoned beautifully and the Griot was so tender with a spicy kick. I stuffed myself. At this point, I asked for the check and to wrap up my leftovers. I had ordered dessert, but unfortunately, could not enjoy it at the restaurant. I did enjoy it at home. I ordered the Rum raisin almond cake which was so delicious. They added some blueberries to my to-go plate that were so plump and juicy and paired nicely with the cake. The cake was so moist and flavorful. Not too sweet. It was the perfect treat after my leftovers! I was sad when I got down to the last bite. The server was so nice. She even held my food to the side while I went to use the restroom. The atmosphere was laid back, with chill vibes from the moment I walked in and until the time I left. Everyone at the restaurant was so nice and helpful. Overall, I had a wonderful experience and I will definitely be back again.
I visited BK9 with my family to celebrate my son’s 14th birthday. When I placed the reservation over the phone the day before they were extremely professional and accommodating for my party of 12. The moment we walked in we were greeted with a smile and warm welcome. Our host for the night was Craig and he was very professional, kind, patient, and his customer service skills was 10/10! The food and atmosphere was 10/10! We will be back.
Delicious food, friendly staff. We happened to call last minute on a Saturday and it was fine to stop in. We sat in a side room, felt like our own private party. They had great music. Caribbean flair and food, I would return.
The food satisfies the same way with each visit. The taste makes you want more. The team demonstrated extraordinary warmth and eagerly addressed all inquiries. The menu delivers on flavor promises. I'd love to return to taste other offerings.
The lunch outing with coworkers became a highlight thanks to this restaurant. BK9 creates good atmosphere and draws fun clientele. Staff provides exceptionally smooth dining experiences. Each plate demonstrates good flavor and fresh components. This spot surprised me in the best way!
Nice Caribbean Lounge right next to Barclays Center. My friends and I passed this place on our way to dinner and there was a line out the door. We decided to pop in after a concert we were there to attend. I thought it was just a small bar, but it's actually a full service restaurant with a good number of tables and extra space in the back near the open kitchen. We were lucky to get three seats at the bar. It was a Friday night and there was a DJ playing a lot of Caribbean and Afrobeats music. When I asked, he finally played a little hip hop. The bartender, Freddy, was great (forgive me if that's the wrong name). He was efficient and friendly, took multiple drink orders at a time and made them very quickly. The total cost for three mixed drinks was over $100 which is crazy, but I guess this is NYC. We stayed a while because the place was so nice. Definitely a 30 and up crowd, which I appreciated. We ordered some jerk wings and brussel sprouts. The sprouts were very basic and uninteresting. However, the jerk wings were on fire! The seasoning was quite spicy but the flavor was great. They came with some kind of cayenne lime sauce that was perfect for dipping. I also loved that the kitchen was open late. Perfect place for a chilly night in NYC. This was the perfect place to go after a concert to keep the fun going without doing too much work.
Relaxing atmosphere with music you can hear but isn’t loud. I had the jerk wings to start that were so good I felt the need to write a review before I even got my main course. The jerk flavor was marinated down to the bone of authenticity. The wings were crispy, not dry. Tender, not chewy. It provided the heat, not too hot that will have you needing water but will certainly invigorate your body. The spices feel medicinal as spices and herbs from the Earth should feel. 10 out of 10. Great plate presentation, next time I’ll take a picture or you can just come see for yourself!
I co-hosted a Baby Brunch Sprinkle with my daughter and it was absolutely perfect! The private room was the perfect size for our intimate family gathering and easily accommodated about 25 guest. The staff was very attentive and friendly. The food, drinks, music and overall atmosphere was wonderful! Above all the pre fix menu was very affordable. Parking is challenging in the area yet well worth it so give yourself time☺️
Enjoyed this restaurant and the exhibit. The food, beverages, hostess, servers, ambience, and artwork - excellent! It was also quite expensive. Tip of the hat for the carrot cake too. Surrounded by the display of American Art was a plus to our dining experience. We definitely intend to return. *Artwork & and its artist' information displayed*
We live in Queen’s and wanted to try something different and we were pleasantly surprised by BK9. Our server Craig, was very attentive and knowledgeable. We drank water with fresh lemon and he kept our carafe full at all times! The food tasted authentic to Caribbean flavors. My boyfriend is Haitian so it was really cool to see some Haitian food on the menu. We went late, after 10pm and there was a dj, he played good music , and even a couple Haitian songs, I got my guy to dance one song with me in the VIP room. 🥰 Also in the VIP room they featured local artwork you could purchase. Barcodes scanned provided information on the artist and a nice description of the artwork. This was my favorite! I can’t afford it yet but really am thinking about how I can buy it.
I visited with some friends and sat in the private room at the back. Although there was another large party there, it did not detract from our meal. The food was amazing, I throughly enjoyed it. It was freshly cooked, well seasoned & filing (peppered shrimp and mussels & toast). The cocktails were delicious especially the rum punch. Also they had some beautiful artwork in the private room.
Food was Amazing drinks were great 👍 The servers were amazing. They were very welcoming and genuine. The place in my opinion could used a lil' decor to give the place some character/ theme. Otherwise very cool spot.
The vibe: I chose this place, last night got together with my brothers and patronized this very cozy restaurant. We celebrated my husband’s bday. The hostess is completely beautiful-gave us a choice of seating inside or outside for our party of six- we chose outside- The waitress was slower than I would have liked but courteous. Food: The jerk wings- the plantains-the burger- spicy shrimp. My brother ordered a side of asparagus and had to take it back inside because the waitress just didn’t remember his request for salt/pepper because there was none at the table we were seated at. So Chef Brian (hope I’m spelt his name right)took care of it and came out and served it himself, which I felt was very attentive where customer service is key. The food was finger licking good- all of it! Let’s talk drinks Brooklyn LIT has a kick you have to sip-that rum punch hit the spot. Those 2 drink could be served in different sized glasses because at those prices come on $19 for a drink and the glass no bigger than a flute- waitress told me,”it has 6 shots”. My response was of what? I would definitely will patronize again just minus the alcoholic drinks. Overall great place to eat, socialize, and bring the family.
This is by far one of my favorite Carribean restaurants in Brooklyn! The oxtail and rice and peas are so good. The drinks are strong and flavorful. My favorite is the Drunken Lust (if you want to get knocked out by the end of the night, that is the go-to.) The plantains are cooked to perfection, served with a delicious cilantro sauce. I went several times -- during the Holiday season and 3 times casually -- I can say that the setting is nice. The dining area is clean -- tables and cutlery are clean. However, I would say that the space between tables is small. The restaurant can feel crowded at times, even if there aren't many people there. The music is great~ but the service time could be better. I had to wait for quite some time before the appetizers arrived. Overall, great experience. Unfortunately, no photos. Next time, I will be sure to add some.
I had a great time here celebrating my aunt's graduation dinner. The ambiance was amazing, The music was a bit loud so it felt more like a club, but it was still good service nonetheless. The service was great as well - our waiter was attentive. Lastly, the food was amazing. I had salad, wings, and the jerk chicken dinner. I will definitely come back here again.
Tbh got oxtail and was the furthest thing from impressed and at 30 dollar it would have been nice to have more than 4 musty oxtails. 2/4 oxtails couldn’t even be eaten, all fat. Lacked flavor… Pass, yall dragged it.
What a joke. Inflated prices off the basis of being upscale Caribbean. One server for the entire restaurant of course because NO ONE is there. My friend and I got approached by an older drunk man who proceeded to harass us for 10+ minutes with no intervention from the server. In fact, he only came to our table after the guy left (he would leave and come back on and off for these 10 minutes) to ask if we were ready to pay. Not only that but included an automatic 20% gratuity…why? “Because I’m the only one working” I wonder why
Service and Atmosphere was amazing but the food and the people preparing it was awful! There was a man cooking and eating at the same time, no gloves, licking his fingers, no hair net just pure unsanitary. The fish tasted as if it were soaked in vinegar overnight, usually done to hide spoiled meat. I would not recommend going here until they revamp their kitchen and cooks. The bar and waiters are so nice. This place has a lot of potential, just needs new management and some proper guidance. They also put 20% gratuity on it for you and also ask for a tip. Read carefully or you'll be doubling up on your gratuity.
I am hesitant to leave this negative review because the servers were so nice. Aside from that, I really do not understand these 5 star reviews. 8 of us sat for brunch on a Saturday afternoon. We had a reservation, and our table was ready and available when we arrived. What we enjoyed: Drinks - BK9 Old fashion, Drunken Lust, Dark and Stormy and ginger beer We did not particularly enjoy the food -Caribbean benedict -French toast was wet (definitely my pet peeve re french toast) -BK9 burger was overcooked -Steak and eggs: steak was overcooked -Chicken and waffles was okay -Rum Raisin Almond Cake: based on the menu description should have been delicious; the appearance and actual dessert were really not good. There were other items, but our receipt was messed up so I have no record of them. It's difficult to confirm because we ended up with two receipts, but I think we overpaid. By that point, I was just done and didn't even care to figure it out.
I wish I could tell you about the quality of the food but I can't because I never got it. I came by after being home from deployment and I wanted a little bit of a taste of home so I tried this space that I heard had nice Caribbean food. The servers were nice but I waited over an hour for food and I never got it. The restaurant only had 2 other groups seated in the main area and we only ordered 2 entrees( chicken&waffles and an oxtail hash). Unfortunately we couldn't stay any longer so we had to leave and even upon leaving my meal wasn't close to being completed. They apologized but most places would have at least comped the drink. They did not and made tip mandatory. Do not come here, if you want authentic carribean food please head further down south of flatbush.
Waited 45 minutes after placing the order and had to leave to make my appointments but the food never came! I would give them negative starts if i could. If they had told us that the food would take a while then we could have reprioritized, instead my entire day had to be moved around because of the delay. Extremely disappointing! Would not recommend.
I went to BK9 after the Katt Williams show at the Barclay's Center. When we arrived the back room was empty and we were the first seated. The room filled up fast. It took almost 3hrs to get our food. People who arrived after us received their food, ate and left. We were still waiting. A drink at our table spilled and I cleaned it up with one of the black napkins. Chris, our server, was also the bartender and cashing people out so he couldn't attend to us as much as we would have hoped. We all ordered burgers and fries in the hopes we would get it pretty quickly.....wrong! Almost 3hrs for burgers and fries is crazy! The burgers were mid, at best. The experience was horrible. There was obvious confusion in the kitchen area, which you can see as you go to the restroom. I dont know if the large crowd caused the mid food and subpar customer attentiveness but I wouldn't revisit on a Saturday night after a show at the Barclay's. Chris did his best. He really was trying, offering drinks, but we were hungry! We wanted food. (Photo cleaning up the drinks and thee burger and fries that took 3hrs🥴)
