Hugo’s Mexican Bar and Kitchen

Loved the ambiance, the food was delicious, my margarita was the best I’ve had, and Adam was great. The decor, music, food presentation, and flavors were superb. I’m only here for one more day, but would come back if my stay was longer. I highly recommend it.

Excellent menu options, atmosphere, drinks menu and especially the service from Adam. We’ve been to Budapest many times but this is our first time visiting Hugo’s. It was recommended by a friend and it’s safe to say we will be back on future visits. Thanks again to Adam for taking us through the menu and providing delicious recommendations :)

We had a great lunch at Hugo’s. It is tucked away a block off a main shopping street and was a nice quiet break. It is decorated with Mexican Day of the Dead figures and paintings and fiesta lights. The music is authentic as well. We enjoyed the generous and delicious portions of chicken quesadillas and pork burritos. Our server Adam was friendly, fun and efficient. We recommend Hugo’s for an alternative from traditional food while in Budapest.

Foods were Amazing and the musics are the Best. Great ambience, very crowded and needs reservation. Recommend the margaritas, wines and burritos. Everything was great, perfect spot for hangouts.

We came here to celebrate the birthday of my boyfriend, and we loved the place. The ambience, the vibes, the music, the decor, ... the food is amazing (both quality and portions). We really enjoyed the drink and food recommendations of Adam who was a very attentive and nice. The Ladies on fire cocktail was my absolute favourite. ☀️ All in all, It is a LOVELY place. Highly recommend:)

Fantastic restaurant with an amazing atmosphere and very pleasant staff. We were delighted to discover this little gem in the streets of Budapest. We ate there twice and we were served by Adam and another lovely gent whose name we didn't catch unfortunately. Food is very tasty and the prices are very affordable.

Fabulous flavours in well presented Mexican food. The restaurant atmosphere is very nice with skull paintings. The service was perfect with great English. Gluten free available. Credit cards accepted.

Such a hidden gem! The atmosphere was cosy and authentic, the service was excellent and the food was so tasty and affordable. I had the pulled pork tacos and a daiquiri and wow! So tasty and succulent and my cocktail came out in a glass skull which was fun. I would go back in a heartbeat!

Definitely one of the best Mexican restaurant in town. The ambience is amazing, great Latina music playing the whole night and the staff is very friendly and attentive. The food is nicely presented and delicious. Same goes for the cocktails. My personal favorite is the Chicken Quesadilla. The meat was tender, matched well with cheddar cheese and their homemade guacamole. I also recommend the Hugo Mix as appetizer, crispy chips with flavorful dips. As for the tacos, I absolutely loved the Picanha Beef Tacos. Just the right amount of spices. P*rnstar Martini and Frozen Coconut Colada cocktails are must tries. If you love Mexican cuisine and eating out at a place where you not only get delicious food but also a memorable dining experience then don’t miss out on this gem. We’ll come back again soon.🌮🍸

The first thing you are hit with when you enter the restaurant, are the vibrant Mexican decorations. Atmosphere is immaculate. Great amount of tables. The dishes weren’t really authentic, the tacos have mayonnaise in them 😂. But the food is still tasty. The presentation of the food was beautiful. We came in a big group to the restaurant. There were about 15 of us, and they told us to not order a lot of different dishes which is limiting. Wish we could order a bigger variety, so that is one minus if you are coming in a big group.

We loved Hugo’s! The food was delicious and the service was excellent. Adam was our waiter and he was so friendly and attentive. He even brought me a little hook for my purse when he saw me struggling to put it on the chair. Definitely will return here again! Don’t miss this place if you’re in Budapest!

We visited Hugo's twice on our short trip to Budapest. It was conveniently located near our hotel and we first had a late night cocktail and creme brulee treat amongst the beautiful decor and atmospheric music. The skull glass was a fun feature! Our second visit was for lunch, a purposeful return as we knew we would enjoy it again. Our server was Adam was helpful, friendly and checked in on us without interrupting us. We enjoyed Hugo's own chips (tortilla chips), cream and salsa, with a unique beetroot chip which we could have eaten over and over! For mains we had chicken burrito and chilli quesadilla, both beautifully cooked, flavoured and presented. We had a beer and a super cucumber lemonade, with fresh fruit. Refreshing and light. We enjoyed a creme brulee (again, they are so good!) and coffees before heading back to the UK. Adam was happy to make us feel welcomed and not rushed, as we relaxed. Thank you Adam!

We stopped in at Hugo’s after walking around Central Market and both my wife and I were very pleased. The server was fantastic, checking on us just the right amount of times. I ordered the Wings and Ribs, my wife ordered a chicken Quesadilla. Both the wings and ribs were very moist and tender, falling off the bone. The wings were coated in what seemed like a light salsa, the ribs in a bbq sauce, lightly coated. My wife liked her Quesadilla, fair amount of chicken, which was also moist, and rice was simple, lightly seasoned Mexican style. My dish included sautéed potatoes slices, thick. The beer selection is limited, which even in the US, Mexican restaurants have limited selection, some will have a small selection if craft beers.

This was my first time in the restaurant and I will definitely come back again soon. I came with my friends, and the vibe in the restaurant was amazing with great music and beautiful Mexican design. The food was delicious and delightful. For the main course I order the Avocado salad and my friends ordered burritos. It was just on point and we loved the flavors. Also we ordered hibiscus lemonade, and a margarita. And for dessert we ordered the chocolate cake which was very good. I would like to give a huge credit to the amazing service from Ádám, he was very kind and explained about everything that we asked from the menu, everything came quickly and we had a nice chitchat. So thank you. If you haven’t understood yet I would totally recommend this place for a nice and chill evening in a Mexican vibe with great stuff and delicious food.

I loved my experience at Hugos. The food was unbelievably good and unique to the area. The vibe of the place was brilliant they clearly cared about their appearance. The service was super. Adam, our waiter was fantastic and is a credit to the restaurant. He made recommendations on certain foods based on my requirements, which made assistance in selection if he felt the portions were going to be too big for one before. Honestly, it's a great experience. I have travelled all over Europe over the last few months, and Hugos is definitely up there as one of my favourites. Fancy opening one in the UK? 😂

Excellent Mexican flavours. Thanks so much for making me a chilli con carne GF taco. The tacos taste great! 3 tacos and rice was more than enough for me. My partner enjoyed his beef burrito and rice then finished up my rice.

Good food, and the atmosphere was very pleasant. Despite that our visit was during lunchtime, it wasn't very crowded. The service was courteous and we received our food quickly. The food was excellent, although I am used to larger portions in Mexican restaurants. Also, be careful to be very precise what additions you want with your food - I wasn't, and I ended up with sweet potato fries, which I hate. Another specific item is that they add the tip to the total - something to be aware of so as not to double tip. Overall, a good place to eat.

Wow! I have lived in Budapest for about 4 months and this place kept popping up. I finally made it over here today and it is GREAT! Best Mexican food I have had in Budapest, and probably most of Europe also. Our server, Adam, was great! He made excellent recommendations, spoke to our youngest child about what he wanted, and made our experience perfect!

This place has an awesome vibe, delicious food and excellent servers who really take pride in serving you to the best of their abilities.:)

Thoroughly enjoyed our meal at Hugo’s. Adam was an exceptional host and his recommendations for both cocktails and food were delicious!

Just arrived and we were wanting Mexican food and this place sounded like the place to go. We weren't disappointed. Service was excellent, even though they were closing in less than an hour. Adam waited on us and made great suggestions. We started with freshly in house made salsa and corn tortilla chips with sour cream and the salsa. We had the bees tacos and the shrimp fajitas. The tacos were very tasty with warm spices. The shrimp was so very good. Nice mixture of onions and shrimp nicely seasoned, better than in the states. 1st time for fajita with fried egg. Added a smooth creaminess. Make your own at the table. Delivered with spicy-not hot black beans and more salsa, pickled onions, jalapenos and 2 fresh tortillas. Added sour cream and some homemade taco sauce and enjoyed 2 large hand made fajitas. Highly recommend this place. They are proud of the food they serve. That shows immediately. I would definitely recommend trying this small hole in the wall taco bar .. Adam even wrote down some of his favorite restaurants we should try while here so we can try out non tourist places for good food. Thanks Hugos

Had a brilliant time in this hidden gem tucked away in one of Budapest’s charming side roads. Authentic delicious Mexican food with superb service by Adam. Amazing!

I’ve been craving Mexican food for weeks. It’s one of the only things I really miss from the states. Had a great meal- went with my server, Adam’s recommendation - quesadilla and an amazing frozen margarita— the service and margarita alone will have me coming back!

Anyone looking for some good Mexican food in Budapest, this place is it :) The vibes inside are very cute, it feels almost like a speakeasy. And the staff are really friendly! Adam took care of us and did a wonderful job, service was super quick and polite. He was also very patient with helping us with our questions, which I appreciated! The food was pretty good, not the best Mexican I've ever had but I really enjoyed everything that I ate. I got to try the Hugo's Mix and the tacos al pastor, which were both seasoned well and had good portion sizes. Overall, I really enjoyed my visit to this place. The atmosphere and staff are really the best part :)

The staff were extremely friendly, and even though the place was very busy, they still managed to find us a table. The food was excellent, and the prices were very reasonable. Overall, a great experience, and I would definitely recommend Hugo & Mexican Bar when visiting Budapest.

A little jewel in Budapest; this is a must go to place. As you walk down the stairs snd look at the decor you could be in Mexico. The service, the food and the atmosphere is great. We have been there every time we've visited Budapest (4 times in the last 2 years). Don't take my word for it, go and visit this restaurant for yourself. You should book in advance though, as this place is extremely popular.

Called into Hugo’s on our first evening in Budapest. Set back from the main thoroughfare in a basement. Didn’t have a booking but were shown to a really nice cosy table for two. Great cocktails and fantastic Mexican food. The music was also great. Spanish pop mainly. Very reasonably priced with great unrushed service. When we left it was getting very busy with people being turned away as the didn’t have reservations. We were luck to have got there when we did to enjoy this gem of a find. Thanks for a great meal.

Awesome Adam was fantastic. Best waiter ever. All staff superb. Food absolutely delicious, hi 5 to the chefs. Nice job! Have recommended to friends who live in Budapest and they are going to come!

I went to this bar yesterday with my friends and it was really great. The food was delicious and they catered to all our requests. The atmosphere was lovely, very Mexican, and the music was perfect, not too loud, so we could easily have a conversation. The service was very friendly and attentive, and they served us immediately when we ran out of drinks. I highly recommend this bar! I had two drinks(alcoholic) and one meal, and I payed around 14.000 forint (~37€).

Discovered this awesome little haunt in our various treks in the neighborhood close to our hotel. The staff were fantastically attentive and friendly (a rarity in the tourist areas here), the food (the enchilada special and chilli con carne) perfectly fresh, tasty and as good as any best Mexican food gets outside of Mexico! Our drinks were also delicious and overall our meal was perfectly proportioned and priced. Best restaurant/bar in our European travels so far.

Tried Mexican food for the first time, and it was amazing! The staff were really attentive, listened to all our concerns, and prepared the food perfecty.

Waiter wasn't so kind at all answered in sarcastic and quite rude, prices on the upper limit but i guess its ok. Lucky the food was nice and the place is gorgeous.

Solid Mexican restaurant with not too big menu. They also offer good cocktails. The ambiance is great. The service is also good. They speak English and payment is also possible with a credit card or in euros. The portions of the main course were smaller. For example, the main course of 3 tacos was not enough for an adult man. The prices are relatively high.

The service was nice , food was very bland and had very little flavor. We ordered the chips and salsa, 2 small cokes as that's all they had. I ordered the steak burrito which was not worth the price my bf ordered the shrimp quesdilla same thing very plain tasting. The Guacamole was basically just avocado, we did try their queso which was room temp would have been better warm. All in all the place was okay and very pricey for not getting any alcohol the total came out to $75USD my burrito was $25!!! Outrageous. Decor was great and restroom clean

Good food but child serving sizes, so were the chips, we didn’t feel full when we left💔
