If you come to Guadalajara, you must visit the Central de Abastos (Basque Market), and there, in the food court, you'll find a place famous for its Menudo (tripe). It's a very traditional place, and the food is exquisite. You shouldn't miss it. If you've been to Guadalajara and haven't been to Menuderia Chela, then why did you come? 😋

A typical Guadalajara spot to eat the best enfrijoladas in the region, if you don't mind eating amidst a variety of aromas, since the restaurant is located next to the market, alongside butcher shops, fruit stands, candy stores, cheese shops, etc. Besides menudo, I recommend ordering the plain enfrijolada, and if you're really hungry, order it with meat, and of course, add cheese and cream. The problem is parking, but they have a multi-story car park next to the market with rates as low as 20 pesos per hour. The enfrijoladas are inexpensive and very popular.

This Sunday I visited the Mercado de Abastos (wholesale market) without knowing where to eat, and I let myself be guided by the crowd. Seeing how busy Menudería Chela was, I knew I had to try it… and what a great decision it was! It was my first time trying menudo in Mexico, and the experience was incredible. The broth was full of flavor, with a perfect texture and no unpleasant smells. The tripe and other offal were super tender, well-cooked, and of excellent quality. To accompany it, I ordered a refreshing and delicious pineapple agua fresca. The service was impeccable, the waiters were attentive at all times, and the gentleman who serves the broth was very kind; he even offered me more. If you run out of tortillas, they bring you more without any problem. Also, a local customer showed me the technique for chopping the chili with oregano on a napkin to avoid getting too spicy, a detail that made the experience even more special. 🔹 The best: ✅ Menudo with authentic flavor and great quality. ✅ Friendly and attentive service. ✅ Traditional and lively atmosphere, a guarantee of good food. Mendería Chela is definitely a must-visit in Guadalajara. If you come to the city, you have to try it. I'll definitely be back!

Actualmente el menudo ya no está tan bueno como lo fue hace años. Ya perdieron el sazón. Por lo que ve al servicio, el tipo de atiende tiene cara de pocos amigos. Mal para un mesero. No te sientes a gusto con la atención. Las cuentas no te las hacen claras. Conclusión. Ya no volveré.

I've been going to menudo and enfrijoladas for years; it's good, but the last time I went the menudo was bland and the enfrijoladas are getting expensive. But if you're out and about doing your grocery shopping, it's a good breakfast option.

The menudo and tortillas were very tasty... But the organization was terrible. Since they know that it's quite busy on Sundays, they should have some kind of plan or at least be more organized. I sat next to where they make the tortillas and it took them over half an hour to serve us... Another half hour to serve us. On the other hand, those sitting in the front were served much faster. No matter how many times we asked the guy, he always ignored us. Honestly, it's very tasty, but it's not worth the wait.

It's really not worth it! The "make a name for yourself and go to sleep" rule applies here. $140 for a plate of poorly served menudo, the waiter seemed to be throwing things at us. The diner next to me had to stop for tortillas because she ordered them from two different people and no one brought them. It's honestly overrated! We went on the recommendation of a local because we were looking for menudo. In the photo, I only had 2 tablespoons of broth, but that's what they served for $140. I definitely won't be back.
