We stopped by for a late lunch/ early dinner on Sunday. The food was very good. Lots of options for vegetarians. The chicken tenders were very good. The vegetarian wings - excellent. The desserts were very good as well. Plenty of seating inside and some outside seating as well. The service is excellent. We parked at the Municipal lot and crossed over to the restaurant.
Fantastic and more fantastic! Jesse D was our server and she was knowledgeable and attentive. The food was delicious some how each item both vegan and non-vegan was better than the last. My favorite dishes were the fried green tomatoes and the potato soup. The dog friendly aspect is a huge bonus! Plus there are some cute small town things to do around the restaurant. Parking is a bit harder to find but it is only a short walk to the municipal lot. Overall, great experience.
Great menu. Something for everyone. A little meat, a little fish, vegan, veg. Casual, hip, (after all this is Carrboro). No not " the Boulder of Carolina" but a welcome oasis in the Tarheel state. Still has some great sweet tea... what's not to like...in a hurry, gotta meet someone...drop on in and decompress. The Spotted Dog. Highly recommended...
Had such a lovely experience here. I'm from out of town and when I come down south I love to get some proper sweet tea. Spotted Dog has the best I've ever tried. Food was also great but the service was exceptional! I'm terrible with names but we had the best waitress who had long blue hair. They were so personable and made the experience great. I was even able to get a growler of sweet tea to take home for only $3. Will be back!
Cute restaurant with friendly service. Menu has a lot of options and it seems that they do everything well. I love that they have vegan/vegetarian options. I’ll definitely return. WARNING: Do not park at Carr Mill Mall and come here. We did (Monday 7:30pm) and it was dark and we didn’t see the no parking signs. $290 cash to get our car back. Find other parking….but still come to Spotted Dog.
Went here to grab a drink and ended up getting an appetizer and meal as well. The bartender was awesome and gave great food suggestions. Really cool place and tons of vegan/vegetarian options. Had the flautas and my wife swore they had meat. You would never know the difference. They were delicious! Also had the fried green tomatoes and they were great as well.
Omgoodness. Alex at the hostess stand and our waitress Abby guided us to the best of the menu. Hands down the best Mac n cheese (VEGAN). The black pea cakes were delicious. Fantastic dinner!! We will be back!
Beyond the fact that this place offers a first class vegan experience, the food was incredible as well. The Buffalo mac was indulgent and flavorful, and the spotted dog platter was really filling and felt nourishing. I think the cakes could have used a little more salt/seasoning but thats a nitpick. This is a perfect restaurant for a group of vegans and omnivores as was our case, and the wait staff was friendly patient and on top of things. The only issue I had was that we had chosen outdoor seating and it's right up against a busy road. The smell of exhaust and the noisy cars were unpleasant especially for a larger group trying to chat across the table. Given that indoors is probably a better option. Overall, everyone had a great time and we will definitely be returning soon!
I was absolutely blown away by the service and food I received at Spotted Dog! Our server, Maria, was attentive and more than helpful in helping us navigate the large menu. She was exceptional and went above and beyond to make sure our experience was superb. While I am not vegan, I got the vegan buffalo mac and cheese and the vegan gumbo (a soup of the day) and they tasted even better than normal mac and cheese or gumbo! All of the staff are super friendly and the restaurant has the best vibe. Will definitely be visiting again!
So far I’ve only ordered once from this place and just for take out, and it seems like a great lunch spot to return to. The staff were very friendly and polite when I came to pick up my order. I tried the chicken curry, and it tasted fresh and homemade. I liked that the rice was included on the side so I could mix it in myself. Also the pita was a nice addition to the meal.
Pretty great food & service. The vegan BBQ sandwich was recommend by the server -- and I can see why. All my non-vegan friends were shocked and impressed. Beer menu changes and is seasonal, so just be flexible if you're a picky drinker.
I visited Spotted Dog for the first time in 15+ years. The menu updates are fantastic (love all the vegan options)! I had the vegan BBQ Mac & Cheese; it was very filling and flavorful. Our server was delightful. I can't wait to come back again soon!
Love everything about the spotted dog. Solid Vegan menu and enough meat options to make everyone happy. Smallish place a few miles from campus. Never had to wait for a table, though. Wife loves the apple cinnamon bread pudding (seasonal) and the potato soup. I like to explore the menu but the Vegan chili dogs are my go to when I get option paralysis.
Quirky little cafe that straddles Weaver and Main St in beautiful downtown Carrboro. Pet friendly with regular and vegan dishes at an affordable price. We loved it! Eating outside, across from the Carr Mill Mall was pleasant. We tried the calamari which was excellent! The Margaritas and draft beer quenched our thirst. Tried the fried Pacific Cod with the hush puppies, slaw and fries. All very good. Their sandwiches, pasta and salads were appealing, so something to try next time. A great time and a unique place to eat and hang out.
I absolutely loved this restaurant! Today was my first time there and I will be going back. Thank you to our amazing Server, Savannah for making our experience even more awesome! We sat outside along the street under the shade of the trees and it just topped off the atmosphere. We ate an awesome meal and could watch all of the life and fun going on in Carrboro. This restaurant is SO cool - I have never been somewhere that offers MOSTLY vegetarian and vegan dishes with Meat Options and I appreciated it so much! I am not vegan or vegetarian but I do love food and want to do better myself. I had the caprese with an added crab cake (real crab because I just love crab but Savannah said you cannot tell the difference so next time ill try the vegan version!) And my fiance tried the vegan chicken wings which were also delicious! All in all, we had a great experience and look forward to going back!
Such a perfect place to eat for vegans!! Everyone there was really friendly, the whole vibe/atmosphere was great. I tried the buffalo Mac and cheese, the sampler appetizer, the fried green tomatoes, and the vegan dessert and it was all SO good! Definitely highly recommend this place.
This is a true hidden gem! The food is always excellent, as is the staff. I've gotten a lot of different vegan meals here but by far my favorite is the Carolina BBQ sandwich! They have so many options for vegetarian, vegan and even gluten free.
Have been here twice and both times were simply wonderful. The fish and chips is truly delicious with crunchy, fresh fish and well seasoned fries. The second visit I got curry with grilled chicken (it was so flavorful and delicious BUT could have used a tad bit more spice). A bit on the pricier side, but worth it for the quality of food!
Loved the building, very cool feel to the place. Food was excellent and they make a solid old fashioned.
The BEST veggie and vegan food options in the area! They source from delight foods soy products and have very flavorful, delicious, and filling options for non meat eaters. For example, you can get veggie wings or veggie bbq. Great service and cute outdoor seating as well. Would recommend their veggie chilli, veggie carne asada fries, and their curry.
So great! First, we didnt even know if it was opened… and the next patron after us wandered in feeling the same. Then our car was towed because we didn’t know the areas strict rules about parking. (We dont live here). Wish I could talk about the BLT or the drinks we had but im stuck in the uber going 20 miles away to pick up my truck i parked an hour ago. Watch your five hole or youll get the ol classic Carolina Hurricane on Weaver Street.
I love spotted dog! The vibe is great — a unique building with unique decor. Their vegetarian options are plentiful and tasty. Service is friendly and prompt. I love taking visiting friends and family here to get a taste of southern cuisine in a cute and funky atmosphere.
Very cool, local spot for tasty food and beverages. Friendly staff and quick turnaround on our orders. We had the chili dogs and patty melt, both were delicious. Will definitely add this to our list.
Absolutely loved this place!! Raquel was the best host and she was so sweet and had the most contagious smile!! We had the radical Rueben which was absolutely amazing. Paired with the frickles, it simply can’t be beat!! While we came for the food, we will be coming back for Raquel!!!
I had the vegan chicken salad appetizer(pictured) that was amazing, the quinoa burger and sweet potato fries that were also delicious, the only small thing negative that I could say is the patty of the burger is way too soft but the flavor was so good I really couldn’t justify taking away a star😀 Great staff, location, and atmosphere also.
This is one of those places where you could take anyone, and they are going to enjoy their meal. Amazing food with the option to 'vegan-ize' many of the dishes. We sat outside on a lovely day, had delicious cocktails, and (despite loving meat) enjoyed an amazing vegan version of buffalo chicken and mac-n-cheese that was frankly better than any traditional version I remember having. Absolutely worth checking out!
We don't live out this way, so this was our first visit. Finding a place with vegan and regular food options is challenging, so our family doesn't get to eat out often. The service was fast and friendly, and the food was delicious with decent portions. The only thing I could say was skimped on was the cheese and the Reuben and turkey melt, and the "meat" on the vegan Reuben, which was really skimpy. Other than that, everything was great. I wish we weren't full and in a bit of a rush to get home so we could have tried the desserts. That will have to wait for next time.
Had some awesome Cod/fish & chips. So good! My husband is celiac and they had a whole separate menu for him. He had the bean vegetarian burger which was also delicious.
We had the best service yesterday from Nick the bartender! So attentive and made sure every part of our experience was perfect. We will be requesting him on all future visits. We had fried green tomatoes and burgers and they were really good. Also thankful that they had an entirely separate menu for gluten free ❤️
I had been craving a pimiento cheese sandwich for years since going vegan. I was so thrilled when my husband found a restaurant that served vegan pimiento cheese sandwiches. It was so delicious and filling. Then, I got the ice cream for dessert. My husband got hotdogs. Great spot for vegan and non- vegans so that you can try several entrees and always give your taste buds a wide variety for mouth-watering expectations every visit.
Such a cool spot. Great selection of craft beer and wines. If you go, try the Expresso Martini by Steth. Awesome. All the food we have tried is awesome as well!
Savanna was our server and we could not have been more welcomed and served! Food was amazing and you could feel the love cooked into every dish!
This place is amazing. As a plant based no oil guy this place blew me away. The owner came out and asked me how he could make something that I could eat. They just tweaked the stir fry a bit. They have a great bar with a fare amount of beer taps as well as Kombucha. Food and drinks for all.
I am not vegan, however I had heard great things about this restaurant and decided to give it a shot. I was not disappointed! The impossible burger was delicious and if I hadn’t known it was vegan, I would have thought it was a beef burger. The vegan cole slaw was also very good. Great option for both vegans and non-vegans!
We found this gem out of sheer luck. We initially came to it because they were dog friendly but quickly found out almost the whole menu can be made to be vegan! SCORE! Not only that but everything we have tried since has been delish, especially the starter bbq “wings” OMG We have been here at least 4 times since we found it and continue to be very well satisfied. Staff is also very friend and attentive. This is the Vegan Curry served only after 5. Yum!
Excellent restaurant with great service and delicious food!! Everything is top notch and there were so many vegan options we didn't know what to do with ourselves! We had the Carolina dogs with fries and red beans and rice as well as the hot wings, all were fully vegan without up charging for alternatives. We also got our dog the puppy burger with chips and he loved it!!! We'll be back again and again!!! Huge fans!!!! I can't wait to try the pimento cheese!!!
I have never had anything from Spotted Dog that I did not enjoy. Truly, this is one of my all-time favorite restaurants in the Triangle area! Spotted Dog has a large and inventive menu that simultaneously accommodates my family’s dairy allergies. Anyone with food allergies knows how difficult it is to find ANYTHING on a menu that is safe for you to eat – my wife consistently has decision paralysis every time she looks at this menu, and I love to see it!
Went to Spotted Dog Restaurant for a birthday celebration, it was great service, excellent food and the atmosphere was very calm and easy to have a quiet conversation. I had the Fish and Chips, with Hush Puppies and Fried Ocra... all very delicious. My wife is vegetarian, so she had the Vegan Flautas and salad, and really enjoyed those as well. Highly recommend Spotted Dog!
We had a group of 12 for dinner and on a 2-hour deadline to be sure to be headed out of the door to be on-time to our next stop. I made the Spotted Dog staff aware of our needs several days ahead and they made sure we got what we needed. The service was outstanding! The food was delicious and came out quickly after we or put in our orders!! And the menu offered enough variety for the, very different from each other, eating habits our group has. Plus we were out of the door by the deadline we requested but not once did the restaurant staff make us feel hurried. Every single person in our party was very impressed with the experience. I, myself, ordered the pub burger which was huge and simply yummy. The onion rings and beer-batter fries were cooked to perfection. Each of us plans to return either with each other or with others that we want to invite along. Thank you Spotted Dog for starting our evening off right!
Great place for lunch! Tons of options for vegetarians and vegans and an extensive cocktail and beverage list, including yummy mocktails. My friend had the turkey and bacon sandwich with sweet potato fries and she loved it. I had the black bean nachos and it was a very generous portion that was tasty. The service was outstanding - our waitress was friendly and prompt and went above and beyond to help us pick out some t-shirts, making at least two trips out to the table with samples for us to see. And then our shirts came in bags that the staff had decorated with hand drawn puppy dogs! It was so adorable. And there is a free parking lot right across the street (on the left side as you are facing the entrance to the restaurant). As an alumna of UNC I was shocked to see free parking :)
Great eatery. Amazingly large menu (almost too overwhelming - they need a specials / highlights menu!). Vegan, vegetarian, GF options. But also chicken, fish, beef, etc. Something for everyone. Really delicious!!! Lovedddd the fish & chips half platter (hush puppies, coleslaw). Good southern twists that feel flavourful and healthy. The chicken salad was HUGE but really flavourful and fresh. Absolutely would recommend! Not too expensive, $20 pp. Server was super nice and service is fast! Empty on a Monday night. Indoor and outdoor seating.
20/10 recommend for vegan and Omni diners. We ate here twice in the 2 days we visited the area. Most impressive southern foods veganized! We got the fried green tomatoes and pimento cheese, bbq platter with fried okra, red beans and rice, quesadillas, patty melt, and mock tails! Don’t forget the fries or med dip whew thank you for vegan options! Municipal parking lot across the street!
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ As avid foodies always on the hunt for excellent vegan and vegetarian cuisine, Spotted Dog restaurant & bar in North Carolina did not disappoint! Their vegan menu is hands down one of the best I've ever tried, and the hospitality from the staff was top-notch. The cute atmosphere just added to the charm. Plus, it’s nestled in a hip little area with lots of great shops, and it’s conveniently close to Chapel Hill. I only wish they had a branch in my hometown of College Park, Orlando. I’ll definitely be back when I’m in the area!
Everything was absolutely delicious. The service was great. Parking was a little difficult but worth it. I got the Carolina pub vegan burger and the vegan hot dog loaded both were bob on absolutely delicious! I got the bees knees cocktail and the honey taste was so good. I highly recommend. Seating was a little tight but we made it work.
As a carnivore that travels with an herbivore it is often a huge challenge for both of us to have a great meal at the same time. Much kudos for the diverse and balanced menu crafted with intentionality of serving great vegetarian and vegan items along side more traditional dishes. Very solid beer and tap list and friendly service combined to make for a great stop.
Such a wonderful and welcoming place. The moment I sat down, staff greeted me warmly and brought out a bowl of water for my dog. The drinks are good and the location is really fun. I got a sampler platter (everything good but the pickles were a fun surprise) and a salad (tuna cooked to my liking and a delicious lemon tamari dressing). I wish I hadn’t waited so long to try this place. A great atmosphere, fantastic service, and delicious food. 10/10 recommend.
The food here was absolutely phenomenal (and they allowed our puppy in their outdoor seating area)! They have a ton of vegetarian and vegan options, as well as a separate menu for those of us that are gluten free. I tried the Blue Lady gin cocktail and we shared a Bloody Mary. Both were delicious. The Puppy Ciao artichoke dip appetizer was out of this world! We usually have a difficult time finding restaurants that utilize ingredients and spices for maximum efficacy, and this was certainly one of them. My spouse had the fish and chips which came highly recommended by some locals as the best in the world. I don't know if he can vouch for that exactly, but he did say they were some of the best fish and chips he's every had. If we're in the area again, we'll definitely be back to try some of their other offerings.
Cool, chill atmosphere, and very welcoming of all people! Very non-judgmental. Our server, Bobby, was very knowledgeable of the menu, gave me good recommendations, had cool style and was just a great server all around- coming from someone who’s been a server as well. Food was amazing and it’s awesome to visit a place that has classic American foods that you can get vegan or regular with meat. The only thing is- both of their bathrooms are “all gender” which is awesome and cool, but me, as a small young woman, I wouldn’t want to go in there and be followed by a man because of that label of all gender. People are creeps and I understand the idea but it seems unsafe for women. I understand the reason why they are there and that’s awesome- but I didn’t feel comfortable.
While I do love this place I am growing increasingly tired of it. Tuesday 8/12 had a gaggle of goils having a goodbye din and the waitress was so ready for us to be out of there. Which isn't typical of the service I usually recieve there so it was shocking, gave us out checks at 8:20 before we were done eating stating "these are important to go ahead and get done. We close soon" at 9? And continued to rush us by letting us know "my computer says some of yall haven't paid yet". Maybe they were annoyed we took the big table for 2 ours for OUR special night, but, it didn't seem particularly busy either. Otherwise, usually good. Every day I still miss the carne asada fries though.
Today was my first visit to Spotted Dog. I have to say I was really impressed by the service, especially my waiter who not only got the assignment correctly and delivered against a short deadline, but was also thoughtful enough to bring a refill in a to-go cup (without my asking for it) since we were in a hurry and recommended some good options while doing it all with a smile. Fantastic service for sure. The food was solid but nothing super amazing. I would come back just for the service! Great location with fun people watching too. Solid option if you have a dog with you and would like to sit outside.
Cute corner restaurant, bar seating available. We had great service as a big party. The food is very tasty, and they are very accommodating with dietary restrictions. They have a separate gluten-free menu for those who need it. There are many items available that are or can be made vegan or vegetarian. They had a good drink selection, and many have local distillery liquor.
Friendly staff, delicious food, and great menu options for vegan and vegetarian. I ordered the impossible burger (bunless) without knowing it was not made of meat....when I had my first bite, I was like, "how can a restaurant make burger patties taste so good! So much flavor!". Then my boyfriend told me that it was not a real meat burger. 😂😂 Will come back here again when I'm in town. :)
The food is handmade and pretty fresh. We're vegan, and it's always a treat to find a nice spot with unique menu items. There are non-vegan and vegan alternatives to almost everything on the menu. It's a quiet place, though, I will say, it felt a little cramped, with every table being inevitably close to the bar. Wish there was a section further away from it. Might not be the best if you're uncomfortable seeing and hearing the bar, because it's right in the middle of the restaurant and pretty big too! Strange set up, but the food is okay.
Good little eatery in Carborro. Small entrance, but it opens up in the back. Most of the tables are small, but there is 1 large enough to accommodate a party of 8. Clean, good food. plenty of options for dietary restrictions! Good burgers and sweet potato fries. Good seating indoor or outdoor on the patio.
Very nice indoor and outdoor seating, though you may get bit by something outside. Had a beer, pint for $8, pretty light nothing special. My friend enjoyed her burger with sweet potato fries and their spicy bloody Mary a lot. The biggest thing that stood out was the waitress (Amber?), who was super kind, patient, attentive, and personable.
The service was friendly and quick. I ordered the $20 pub burger, and it was disappointing, to be honest. The patty was small, the bun was lackluster, and there wasn't much flavor. For $20, I expected a lot more. I did appreciate the dog friendly patio and the downtown location, though I probably won't return.
Where do I start! Our server Bobby was so dope! He literally met every need my boyfriend & I had! Great energy, answers questions, concerns for my #Vegan crowd. NOW the food.. well I think the pictures speaks for itself... we'll definitely be back. **FoodDetails** ••Cheese steak sub🥖 was bomb it reminds me of something I tasted as a child. The steak doesn't have a chewy texture which is good! Its tough similar to actual steak. Flavor is there! ••Pasta Alfredo🍝 now its not bad but if you're a new vegan don't expect it to taste like regular Alfredo sauce that your use to. It may throw you off little bit. ••Impossible burger 🍔🍟 was bomb! Fries fresh crispy, Even the bread/bun they use goes right with it. Shoot I thought it was a biscuit at first. **Dessert🍨🍫 I'm not a fan of bitter/dark chocolate..but the ice cream & chocolate syrup balances it out. It was really pretty also.
I really have wanted to like this place. The food has gotten better and I was very impressed with my last meal. Sadly, despite having a gluten free menu and clearly checking with them, I again had a terrible reaction to my salad (the bumpy chicken). Many trips to the John which are not done yet. I go to places where I get the gluten free options often and rarely have any reaction and I know that my sensitivity is nowhere near the worst. The food is good and the staff is good but the kitchen is not invested in making food for those who have gluten problems. It really caters to vegetarians and I expect that if that is what you are looking for you will be very happy. The outside seating is also great. Just don't talk your gluten free friends into coming along.
The outside seating area and food were great. I ordered a salad with chicken and it was very flavorful. I could definitely tell a difference in the fresh, locally grown ingredients! The service, however, was not so great. My party of three and I ordered a salad, a quesadilla, mac & cheese, and a sandwich. Considering we were one of the only customers in the establishment, I expected the food to take about 25 minutes, however it took twice that time. It would not have been as big of a deal if our server had assured us that the food was coming or that it would be out shortly, but she simply ignored us for the entirety of our wait time. When the food did arrive, a different server brought it. Service definitely needs some work.
5 stars for Jessa D, the server, who was quick, cute, smart and made us feel very comfortable. The food was mediocre, at best, and over priced. We were disappointed. We had the Full Fish & Chips and at $22.00 per serving, it just wasn't reasonable. Besides the fish tasted nothing like Cod. We'll try the Spotted Dog again, soon, to see if they were just having an off day.
Great service (wait staff), great atmosphere, the food.....maybe we hit a bad day but the food was definitely not worth it. Hush puppies were just over cooked mush. Fries, blah. I ordered a patty melt. The impossible burger on melt was smashed (not labeled as a smash burger) so flat and so overcooked (almost burnt), it fell apart into several pieces when i picked it up, if there was cheese on it, I couldn't see it, and the grilled onions were raw. Anyway, may give the place one more try since others seem to like it.
We enjoyed our dinner entrees and drinks and appreciate the many veg/vegan menu selections. Service was very spotty. A salad and po' boy and a single round of drinks took over 90 minutes. It was busy when we arrived but emptied as we waited for the sporadic attention from our server.
Place has a very eccentric vibe, even the architectural aspect of the inside was intriguing and made this place unique. Menu seemed to have a plethora of options, however, felt jumbled. Reading between the lines on which meals were Vegan and not only depending on small writing....maybe a clear cut section or larger font to showcase different choices. They do have a kids menu....but if you go on their website their online menu has more options for kids? Gave it a 3 due to the food was so dry with hardly any seasoning. The cheeseburger was bland with hoards of mayo on it. The bun was equally bland. Fish and chips were just ok but definitely missed the mark. Everything needed help. The kids burger and adult burger...literally the same size....same amount of fries. Only difference....$7 an onion. Our waitress was nice and service was quick. Restaurant was clean and easy to find.
We had originally planned on going somewhere else before a Cat’s Cradle show, but the wait was too long, so we ended up at the Spotted Dog. It’s a kitschy atmosphere and the wait staff was friendly and fast. The food was wildly disappointing. $8 for a plate of fries with melted cheese and sour cream, & $13 for a burger with NO flavor. My partner had the Mediterranean bowl and said it was pretty good. They have a wide variety of vegan/veg options and I think they largely cater to those folx. Overall, you go to a restaurant primarily for the food and I just was not impressed.
Delicious food, tiny portions. I ordered Fautas which came with a side salad. When they brought the salad I thought it came with a little snack. Turns out it was the entree. I felt like Gandalf eating with the hobbits with how small the portions were. This would be a five star review. However three were taken off, two for the food quantity and the other for the lack of refills/checking in on you (which honestly it's hard to run out of water with how small these portions are).
The atmosphere was average and that was the best part of the whole experience. Came with my family and dog and were placed next to the dumpster staring at a brick wall. Because of this, flies were everywhere and were on everyone’s food and drink. I ordered the Carolina Pub Burger and was very excited for it. The server brought out a different meal and I manned up and ate it because the food took a long time to come out and was not worth waiting even more time for. It was not very good. Considering the price, there are many other dog friendly options with better tasting food in the Chapel Hill area.
Not worth it. I took my son in yesterday for lunch since we were on that side of town. The location is not ideal if you're driving. DO NOT PARK ACROSS THE STREET IN THE PARKING LOT!!! I got towed and had to pay $415.00 to get my car back. I ordered a grilled turkey bacon sandwich with fries. The fries were great the sandwich wasn't grilled the bread was toasted. It was mid (as the kids say). My son ordered a pasta dish that he didn't finish. The food was nothing spectacular. The server was nice but I feel like they should tell customers about the parking situation. Going forward we will find another place with better parking and better food. Our total came to 64.82 for the food and one beverage and tip.
