We had the Christmas Tea and it was wonderful. I hope they decide to do this more often. Reservations were required for the tea but they are not necessary for the restaurant during regular hours.

Discovered this establishment from a sign on the interstate. Stopped in for lunch. The establishment was very clean and well maintained. The staff was friendly and helpful. The food was great. We recommend stopping by when you are in the area. We will definitely return when we are in town.

Our server Kale was excellent. Very thorough and attentive. We each tried something different. I had the Cobb salad with Chicken. It had unique corn bread crouton, cranberries, diced sweet potatoes, yummy fresh crumbles bacon bits. The sweet potato were the only part of my meal I was not a fan of. We all tried the salmon Cajun soup. It was good the salmon melted in your mouth. The Class Act burger my son said was easily the best burger he has had. My son's girlfriend had the Iowa omelet and she said it was yummy. My husband had the corn beef hash he said it was a great from scratch hash.

This restaurant is located in The Hotel at Kirkwood Center, and is a Culinary Arts Program. Elegant decor. Great service and food at a slightly higher price point than a chain, but the students are learning (and we get to eat the rewards of their education). The sticky pork belly was perfectly balanced between sweet, sour, and savory. The special of the day (ribeye) was perfectly cooked, the pork chop, duck, and steak fries were excellent. Will come back when back in town!

First visit to The Class Act. Delicious food, friendly service. Nice atmosphere. The restaurant is located in The Hotel at Kirkwood Center. So, a great location for any special event, meeting, or gathering. In addition to being a nice local restaurant, it's part of Kirkwood college. For anyone not already familiar with Kirkwood, here are some interesting facts… The 680-acre campus in Cedar Rapids includes a 400-acre working farm, 27 buildings with 1.4 million square feet of interior learning space, and a 15-acre athletic complex. Kirkwood students come from 100 different countries, all over the United States and all 99 Iowa counties. With 14 locations across 7 counties, Kirkwood is the area’s leading provider of accessible, affordable, and exceptional education and training.

Excellent hotel restaurant with a changing menu and something for everyone. Each month, you can try a tour around the world of a new country with a 4-course meal. This is arguably the best restaurant in town!

Attended a wedding reception here. Enjoyed some time at the bar waiting for cocktail hour to start. Drinks were delish, and had great alcohol content. Cocktail hour had great choices for Hors D'oeuvre and cocktails. The decor in the reception ballrooms were beautifully decorated!! Food was delish and plentiful. Seemed liked they served the wedding honorees well!

Absolute best service!! I have gone twice for two different meal times and servers, both occasions were extraordinarily accommodating and efficient! I fell in love with their appetizer rolls and have come back mainly for them- I unfortunately came on a day that they served pastries for Mother’s Day but the kind server, Jacob, still got us some and did an amazing job with the rest of our meal!!

Wonderful place to eat. Came here for my husband’s birthday and I’m glad we did. Service was exceptional and so was the food. The hotel was also amazing. Got a presidential suite and was beautiful and peaceful. Will recommend if you are looking for a romantic dinner date or just for fun!

The positive reviews definitely tell the truth about this upscale restaurant! We enjoyed a nice dinner here on the first Saturday of December and were impressed. Not only was the food delicious, the waiter did a wonderful job. We heard later that it was only his second day! Whatever your restaurant is doing to provide a first class experience....keep it up : )

The king trumpet mushroom skewers were amazingly delicious... The pairing with the grilled peaches was perfect, made certain a little of each was on each forkful, and with the puree... See photo revealing the peaches hiding beneath... Began cutting everything into smaller and smaller pieces to extend the experience... Topped off with an excellent cashew torte. A gem of a restaurant. Hats off to the students.

Great experience at The Class Act. We went for my grandmothers 90th birthday and we had excellent food and drinks. Waiter was very attentive and created a good environment.

Love this place! Usually always come here for my wedding anniversary or with friends. The Grilled Duck Leg Confit was amazing as well as the dessert. The servers were top notch as well! The best!

Great hotel. We had Mason as our receptionist. He was amazing! Very attentive and suggested places to visit. Great outdoor area. Had breakfast at the restaurant and Chef was willing to make something that was not offered on the week menu.

We enjoyed the setting, sharing different beautifully presented dishes, and the service was excellent.

Outstanding food! Absolutely Clean restaurant. Server lacked proper etiquette. Not once was asked how the food was more water. When making reservations I advised was my anniversary. Had to ask again about the desert. Had to make sure to tell me a get a free desert. Free didn't matter bringing the desert out without telling you twice did. Drinks tasted amazing. I understand it's a learning atmosphere so he didnt take away from the 5 stars. But does need extra training.

Harris was an amazing waiter. He was attentive and detailed. He refilled our drinks and was patient. He made sure we knew there were tomatoes or extra things on our dishes. His calm and positive attitude was refreshing after a day of travel. Thank you Harris!

Nice atmosphere, good food. The students seem to really care. Expect Red Robin level fare at slightly higher prices.

I had walleye, my friend had the beef fillet. It was outstanding. His salad was beautiful. My soup was perfectly seasoned. I cannot say enough about that meal. We really enjoyed it.

Have gone for dinner a couple of times this year. Each staff member we've engaged with (in-person or over the phone to make reservations) is friendly, cheerful and seem to care about providing excellent service. The food is always excellent, the sides are unique and tasty. We just finished our Thanksgiving reservation and it was phenomenal! We decided to make this our new Thanksgiving tradition.

I doubt there is a better place to eat in the Cedar Rapids Iowa City corridor! This restaurant is located in a hotel and is attached to a culinary school! I brought my wife and mother in law and met two friends from out of town. They all praised the atmosphere, food quality, and service! They even have banquet rooms. My wife and I ate here a couple of months ago. My friends ate here last week. We all enjoyed it enough to want to come back!!

From the time we walked into the lobby area, we were greeted by the Hotel Staff. The lobby area, gave all of us a sense of coziness. The bar area caught our eye, because it had great lighting and comfortable chairs. Very relaxing and then on to their beautiful dining room. The menu had a nice variety of food to choose from. The service was excellent and the food was delicious!

First time there i was looking for something open on a Monday and stumbled on The Class Act and I'm so glad I did!! The place was beautiful and inviting at the same time. Our server I think his name was Keith was knowledgeable about the menu and the service was great! The food!!! Wow the food was beyond anything I expected! The crab cakes I can say were the best I've ever had! The Filet was mouth watering and desert well you will have to try it to believe it! Can't wait to go back! Thanks for a wonderful experience!

It was a special for Cedar Rapids Restaurant Week, but I had the best pork tenderloin sandwich I have ever had. Their hand-cut french fries were perfectly salty, and that texture that resides between crispy and tender. Yum! Bar service was slower than I would have expected, but the cocktails were tasty and tastefully designed. Above all, the service staff was knowledgeable, attentive, and kind.

Have been here numerous times for lunch & dinner and the most recent time I had the bourbon glazed salmon which was an absolute delight. They change their menu often however and have had many great dishes but that one in particular stood out. Service is always great, even when busy. Highly recommend for lunch or a nice dinner.

I had breakfast on Saturday morning with friends. Service was excellent and I ordered the French toast with berries. Delish! I also had dinner there Saturday evening as part of a reunion. I had the vegetable lasagna and raved about it! The waitstaff earned their keep for sure with a large room of about 65 classmates. Only improvement for me would be a wider option of NA beer or wines. They had Clausthaler which was fine, but in today's fitness and health conscious population we want more options available. I am very impressed overall with this restaurant located within the Kirkwood Hotel.

It's fine dinning chefs in training and they are making some awesome food. They are working with good ingredients and coming up with tasty dishes. My first time, the components tasted and execution of the meals were A+. Second time, the execution wasn't all there but still tasty, A-. Prices are good and the atmosphere was great. If l lived near by, I would visit frequently to try everything and see what else they have come up with. I had no idea I would find this kind of culinary delight on the outskirts of Cedar Rapids, IA

We ate as a large group at the restaurant, for dinner. The menu has some interesting choices with things that are house-made that normally would not be (the ham on the cuban, the french fries, and the rolls for the sandwiches). Most of those were hits, but some were misses. Service was not at "fast casual" speeds considering that we didn't order anything exotic, but perhaps if the fries are made to order, it takes that additional time. Also, the atmosphere at the restaurant isn't necessarily one focused towards speed. So perhaps that's by design. I had the chicken philly, which used poblano peppers instead of just the usual bell peppers. It was a nice touch and added a little complexity and interest to the sandwich. A few people ordered the brisket sandwich, which was a bit dry / tough. Burgers seemed popular and those plates were clean at the end of the meal. No one had dessert, so can't speak to that. The wait staff was very good and capable, no issues there.

I can't say enough good things about my dining experience at The Class Act. Don't be put off that this is a student-run operation; from the moment we were greeted by the receptionist to when we left service was impeccable, with everyone exhibiting professionalism and genuine enthusiasm. It didn't stop with the service. The menu had the right balance between approachable food offerings for most palates with enough interesting twists for a culinary snob. Every single plate coming to the table was executed really well, and the Cote du Rhone wine special was wonderful and at a very reasonable price point. Overall, a truly enjoyable evening at all levels. A five-star experience all the way.

We had the steak and fritz and shrimp/sausage dinner. Both were excellent. My BF said it was one of the best steaks he's ever eaten. We will be back. The hostess said they will change up the menu in March and start the tasting menu in April. Yum!

We visited for a graduation brunch. The ambience is wonderful and employees very friendly and helpful. I enjoyed my omelet and all others at table were impressed with theirs. Homemade corned beef hash was a hit and French toast with berry compote also excellent. Will definitely attend this place again.

This was a great stop on a 1,000 mile road trip. Easy to get to off the interstate and only option we could find find that wasn’t either fast food or fried bar food, but with fresh, classic options. Clean, a bit upscale on atmosphere but we felt fine there being casually dressed. Service was great and food delicious! If we’re ever in the area again, we’ll be back!

Having a great restaurant at a hotel is such a luxury! We enjoyed a delicious dinner and breakfast - both were fabulous. The staff was professional and attentive! The manager even taught my son how to make a rose out of his napkin. :) Highly recommend.

The salmon entrée had clean flavor and a nice sear, though the risotto on the side leaned a bit heavy. Staff stayed professional and friendly, and the modern, polished dining room made the evening relaxed but refined.

Cedar Rapids — Valentine’s weekend, nice setting, good service, great presentation, tasty. Upscale restaurant, smaller setting(but have additional options for seating). I saw a couple tables that got sandwiches they looked great. It a nice option for date night

Great place. Upscale dining worked by college students and their instructors at a fair price. Great experience! Well done, no pun!

This restaurant is laid back universally across all sections when you walk through the door of Hotel Kirkwood pass the bar and to the entry of the restaurant. Staff is very friendly ensuring that you are taken care while still allowing you to have your time together.

For a super gourmet experience, this is exactly the place! Excellent food, excellent service, and doesn't break the bank. My one, and only criticism is bias, so take it as you wish. I was very excited to see a local dish from whence I moved. But when I got it, it wasn't what I expected. Still good, don't get me wrong. Just not what I was looking for.

Honestly 3 stars was very generous, the crab dip appetizer was very good. The lobster bisque also very good, however the 30 dollar entrees were anything but good. The server we had wasn't to be bothered until it was time to give us the check. The atmosphere was very but I will be hesitant to go back, at that kinda prices we were really disappointed!!!

I have been coming here for many years but had been a bit since my last visit. Ate twice here during a one night stay and the food was so disappointing. The quality has dropped off significantly compared to a few years ago. My omelet was thin and insubstantial, probably half the size of what I remember from previous visits. For dinner I ordered some shepherds pie type dish and it tasted even worse than it looked. For some reason they did the potatoes in a swirl pattern on top and I honestly thought it looked like a mash potato version of the poop emoji. I had a couple bites then just left...after paying of course :) The servers are always nice, though, so that makes it good enough for a business meal. Just wouldn't pay my own money to eat here.

We met to celebrate my sister's birthday and had reservations for 8:00 p.m. our dinner was not served until around 9:50 p.m. Our food sat in the window for quite some time, was overcooked and dry. No one in our group mentioned that they liked their food, we were very disappointed. We will not be returning!

R
Rita Browning

Two of us had to send our fillet back we ordered medium rare and they were very well done. They did take care of it. The mashed potatoes were cold. Vegetables were good. The steak texture was off, even though it was done properly the second time. The desserts Were not what was expected. For the price, it definitely was not worth it.

S
Sam Williams

Food absolutely not worth the price. We both ordered the filet with a side salad. Salad was inedible; "raspberry champagne" vinaigrette was SO acidic that it tasted like they poured straight white vinegar on it, no sweetness or raspberry or champagne flavor at all. It also stank strongly of vinegar. Filet was weirdly crunchy on the outside and had an unpleasantly chewy texture (I ordered medium rare, which from the look seemed to be cooked correctly) and was served on top of bland potatoes and carrots. Filet mignon should be tender and flavorful, but sadly our steaks were chewy and bland. Our server was incredibly nice and attentive but when you're paying $40 per entree the food needs to do much better than this. We will definitely not be returning. So disappointing!

Ate here with family 4 years ago. Gave it 2 stars then. Ate here again at a family event. Worst filet mignon I've ever had. My wife had the same and it, too, was poor. No flavor and a pretty strange texture. My son's sandwich was ok. My sister-in-law's fish was horribly overcooked making it dry and only partially edible. Another at the table didn't receive a portion of her order. The restaurant asked 1 wait person to handle 22 people. He did a great job. The kitchen failed to deliver.

I came in there this past Friday for lunch I got the beef prosciutto or whatever and that thing was nasty over salted in my opinion! Sweet potatoes doesn’t mix will with the skirt stake and slimy sauce they used. But I will say the chicken sandwich was juicy but way too small to be considered a full meal. The corn soup was underwhelming but the serve was really nice and did a great job serving me in a timely manner. I paid $36 as a single male. For me brining a family here and spending over $100 is just not worth it for lunch.

We visited the restaurant today. We had reservations at 10 AM. We all got seated. It was a good twenty minutes before the waitress came around to get drinks, then another twenty twenty five minutes before she came around to take our orders. Then it was a good 30 to 40 minutes before we received our food and mind you, it was our table,(10 people) another table in the opposite party room and one other table of two people the entire restaurant. When we did finally receive our food , half of the egg orders were completely wrong and sloppily plated. We finally got to eat about 1130, and we were seated at 10am... I used to think this place was a pretty upscale restaurant , but don't think I will bring a group again.

S
SeaBee_George

Went for Sunday Brunch the food was the worst we've ever had. The bagel and locks was horrible could not eat. Hash browns were extremely greasy, corn beef hash was cold, potatoes were under cooked. Server not very good waited a long time to be served. The server would forget to bring our drinks to us. Had to ask several times. The server brought out the toast but no butter and jam. Topped off they are charging prices you pay at a fancy restaurant. Definitely do not recommend
