Our absolute favorite sushi restaurant around! The fresh fish and presentation really can’t be beat. The owners take such pride in every detail and we are so grateful we found this gem. The Bears roll and ukai #1 are our favorite, but whenever we try something new, we are always thrilled!!

Our go-to spot for sushi in Chicago. Have a variety of rolls that all look and taste fantastic. Service is great - everyone is kind and welcoming. They always have fun lights and great music playing. Would highly recommend

I am so amazed by their quality of food! The chirashi bowl was so fresh, with each slice of fish melting in your mouth with savory fattiness. The cuts were thick and satisfying. I was really full by the time I finished the bowl, and the price is actually a lot cheaper compared to other places that are of less quality! My boyfriend ordered the ramen and it was yummy as well. Will definitely have to come back and try other dishes!

The sushi at this restaurant is not only delicious but also exceptionally fresh, with each piece expertly crafted and visually stunning. The vibrant colors of the fish and the delicate presentation make every dish a feast for the eyes. Additionally, the service provided is top-notch, with friendly and attentive staff who ensure that your dining experience is enjoyable and memorable.

I had low expectations before coming here but I went for their lunch special since I pass by here almost daily. This place serves solid sushi. Their lunch special is a good deal even though they put less fish on the sushi then if ordering a la carte or for dinner. The only negatives is that it took more then 30min to get my sushi order ready so I suggest calling ahead. Also they didn't follow my special instructions for extra wasabi but overall this is a good place and I'll be back.

Each piece of sushi bursts with flavor, highlighting the quality of the ingredients used. Additionally, the service is consistently outstanding; the staff is attentive, knowledgeable, and always ready to offer recommendations, ensuring a delightful dining experience every time.

The food was good and the server was really nice. I ordered yakisoba noodles. First time here definitely coming back. Prices are reasonable.

I went on Thursday morning right after they opened. Very welcoming and warm place to eat alone imo. I got the classic Godzilla Roll which I get at all sushi places plus a mango roll. Mango and Strawberry in sushi is underrated, I love the combo. This place didn’t have strawberry but they had the Mango Tango Roll and they add a mango sauce to it. Next time I will order two Mango Tango instead of 1. I also got the crab ragoons, they were pretty good too but not as good as other places.

This was high quality sushi at a great price. Will definitely be back multiple times

They are so generous with portion here. I’ve never been served such thick sashimi! The fish is all delicious and melts in your mouth! Service is kind and attentive.

Solid place with a good selection of sushi and other Japanese dishes. One of the few places I've gone where the takoyaki isn't lava on the inside. Prices and portions were pretty good and the fish was very fresh.

This was my second time at Ukai and the sushi was just as good if not better! With so many rolls to choose from, there’s plenty of options for everyone here. For appetizers, we got the Crab Rangoon and Takoyaki. We love the crab rangoons here, and the Takoyaki was good too just not our personal favorite. For sushi rolls we got the Spider, Green Dragon, and Spicy Scallop. All three rolls were fresh, flavorful, and unique. Even the Spicy Scallop Roll, the most “basic” of the rolls, was delicious and the scallop was so soft. My favorite of the three was the Green Dragon. Besides the food, the inside of the restaurant is beautifully designed and welcoming. The staff are very friendly and quick. I would highly recommend Ukai for fresh and delicious sushi!

The salmon is really delicious! Very fresh! Friends who like curry recommend the curry chicken udon! The sushi is also delicious! As a Japanese food lover, I really like this restaurant.

Very great place. I can tell everything was made to order. I had the spicy miso soup and chicken curry. It was good size and very tasty. I want to go back abs try some of their sushi sometime. The rice was good and so was everything. They were not very busy, which is usually a warning sign, but trust me, this place is so good. It transported me back to Japan. The food was the same!

The food is amazingly delicious. They were plated very professionally and I had great service from the waiter/waitress. We drove from Naperville and the destination time was roughly 2 hours. When we arrived there, the time was absolutely worth it!! 😋😁

Ooo wee, this was a splendid time! Before seeing a show, my wife and I decided upon this nearby restaurant. We both decided to splurge and ordered both a special roll and ramen. The sushi was awesome and having tried many ramen joints in Chicago, Ukai's ramen is rich and soothing. The staff is kind and attentive and I would highly recommend this as a solid sushi and ramen joint. We would visit more often if we lived nearby!

A little further from home but 100% worth the trek to visit, this small sushi shop is one of my favorites in Chicago. I recently visited for lunch and had their Pink Lady roll which blew my boyfriend's taste buds and my own. An excellent addition to the menu - please keep it! I promise to order every time we visit (which is getting to be more and more often)! Bonus: Ukai is BYOB 🍣☺️🍻

Everything was so good! I've been craving sushi for a few days and have tried a few other places. This place was the only one that truly satisfied the craving. The food was fresh. The service was kind and very fast

10/10. Quality of food exceeded expectations. The sushi was great, definitely some of the better sushi I’ve had in chicago. The curry was authentic and tasty. Would definitely recommend.

The atmosphere of the restaurant is great. The sushi is very fresh, and the ramen tastes delicious. The service is fast, and I will definitely come back. The Christmas tree is beautiful.

Great local spot with a wide variety of fresh sushi, sashimi and hot options. Also BYOB if you'd like to dine-in. We always order carry out because we live a block away, but it's always ready super quick and tastes fresh! Def get the crab ragoons, but you can't go wrong with any of the specialty rolls, bear and pink lady are some of our favorites. My only complaint is some of the rolls are so huge they are hard to eat in a bite and fall apart everywhere. They should make more rolls with smaller size.

Really enjoyed this place with a few buddies. Everything was delicious and service was too good that they actually need to slow down and let us eat for a min before putting more on the table.

I got the lunch special which was a great deal! Three 6pc rolls for $15. The sushi was so fresh and yummy! I’ll definitely be coming back!

I would say this is the best price for the best sashimi in Chicago you can see for $25 for this quality and portion of sashimi and it tastes so fresh(uni is separate btw lol)Highly recommend sashimi lovers to come here

One of my favorite spots in the neighborhood. The miso soup and chicken katsu curry are my favorite items on the menu. The curry is also great to go. Definitely recommend for dinner in Lakeview!

Great place with top quality ingredients. A must visit in Chicago. We definitely will come back again

This place is seriously underrated, and it might be the better for it. It's relatively quiet, and a more traditional dining experience than the city's household name, Sushi Taku. Never had a bad experience with the food or the service. Try any fish/rice dish with the Genmaicha. Pairs incredibly well.

Elegant dining experience with a ton of flavor! The ramen is what we came for, the small plates is what we will be back for. Very large patio for the whole squad to come. The chef gave us a free Toro Crispy Rice because he didn't like how the first one looked. That gives you a sample of the quality you are dealing with.

We had sushi and ramen here before the Stray Kids concert at Wrigley Field last Thursday. It was seriously the BEST Tuna Maki I've ever tasted (other places fish must be average?), and the Pink Lady salmon roll was phenomenal. My adult daughters say that the ramen was awesome also. You will be happy!

THE BEST SUSHI IVE HAD OMG !! the service was great maybe bc it wasn’t that full. But omg that sushi is so good salmon is so fresh. That chicken gyoza 🥟 IS THE BEST of the best 100/10

Great place to eat, big selection on menu. Price was reasonable. Food was so delicious and spice was on point. The service was really good. We were welcomed and we were assisted by Kit with our specific dietary requirements and they kindly catered for us. Must try the Gyosa here and the sprimp Ramen was very tasty.

I ordered the chicken katsu curry and vegetable spring rolls. Both were very delicious. The server was kind and patient, I would reccomend this place :D

Absolutely loved my experience at Ukai Sushi & Ramen in Lakeview! I ordered the Lili Monster Roll, which was a delightful mix of spicy tuna and avocado, and the Pork Ramen that had a rich, flavorful broth. The sushi was fresh and beautifully presented, and the ramen was comforting on a chilly Chicago evening. I also appreciated their BYOB policy with no corkage fee, making it a perfect spot for a relaxed dinner with friends. The ambiance was trendy yet cozy, and the staff were attentive and friendly. I spent around $40, and it was worth every penny. Highly recommend this spot for anyone craving quality sushi and ramen in the city!

They let me quickly dine in even though I ordered takeout because I was starving, and brought over water and soy sauce without me even asking. The service was so kind, and the sushi? Incredible. Super generous portions with the perfect fish-to-rice ratio—honestly some of the best I’ve had. My favorite sushi spot in Chicago.

Ukai has been one of my favorite sushi restaurants for a few years now. They are an affordable, quality, lowkey sushi spot with a delicious menu and great selection of fish. I've never had something that I didn't love! The service is great, and it is BYOB which is always fun. Couldn't recommend this place more!

The spicy miso ramen hit that perfect hot-but-not-too-hot level. The tonkotsu was rich and cozy, like a warm hug on a cold snowy night. And every roll we ordered was a little bite of happiness. Service, though, was a bit “shy.” Nothing bad, just the kind of experience where you start wondering if you should walk over and check on them. A little more friendliness and attention would’ve made the meal perfect.

Fantastic place to try Sushi’s. Infact I would say it’s amongst the best sushi’s in town and is total value for money. However other dishes I tried like the ramen ( pork based) and dumpling appetizers were good not great. Especially the appetizers are best skipped. The decor is par for the course for a BYOB place and pricing. The service is excellent and quick as well. Highly recommend if you are a sushi fan. For everything else , it’s par for the course. I like trying new places which means there are few places I end up going to back to. However this is one place I’ll go back to for the sushi’s.

Ukai sushi is really tasty! I will say the lunch special is totally worth it as you get a good spread of food to taste. Every thing was very fresh and tasty. I will say the service was kind of slow but, the taste of the food made up for that.

Good sushi, good service, good atmosphere. It was BYOB which I really appreciate! I got the crunchy spicy tuna roll and the Bears roll. Highly reccomend both! I would certainly go again.

Over rated in my opinion. BYOB is nice, but the sushi was average at best and included little actual fish (especially the unagi roll). So many great spots in lake view, so I'd pass on this one

Was really disappointed in our experience here. I came in with a couple friends on a Sunday night. Only a couple of other tables had patrons so it was not busy for dine ins. There seemed to be only one person working to take orders, bus tables and prepare carry out orders. It took a while for her to come get our order. Then afterwards it was just very poor attention to detail. My miso soup came out but my friend's was left sitting in the kitchen and wasn't brought out until we asked about it when her appetizer came. I had requested a sauce to be on the side, when my appetizer came there was no sauce but since she was back to being busy preparing take out orders we had to wave her down. My friend asked for spicy mayo but was not told it was an additional charge and then the charge popped up on our bill unexpectedly. 2 of us felt our food was fine, my other friend said the veggie udon was pretty bland and tasteless. I get that she's just one person trying to balance probably too many tasks, but she focused on take out orders as a priority over service to dine in guests which is just backwards. I wouldn't go out of my way to come here and if you just happen to be in the area, maybe avoid on a Sunday.

The food was ok, The ladys attitude was not the best,I asked for fresh Wasabi and she was upset that I did, they did not have any. Overall, it was just ok.

The older man that works at the register is a little ignorant and a little rude. He doesn't understand what wholesome hospitality is. He seems a little angry when trying to provide service with a smile. The older woman that works with him also seems a little angry. The ambiance is cold and uncomfortable. They forgot to bring me chopsticks in a napkin when they put my food on the table and they never bother to communicate and don't seem to understand how to communicate if you have any questions about ordering the foods offered. They make you feel rushed and forced to just buy.

G
Gabriela Jimenez

Waited over an hour and a half for our food after waiting 30 mins to even get attended. We were ignored by the server when trying to check in to see how much longer until we received our food. It was not even that busy. If you are in a rush to eat, don’t come here. Sushi was not good enough to warrant ever coming back.
