Porter Kitchen and Deck

I’d recommend anyone to visit Porter Kitchen. The deck is phenomenal and the prices are extremely fair. Food was good but not great. There was just a slight inconsistency where some bites were delicious and some were just okay. Service was okay - server was just a bit slower than we would’ve liked.

Very delicious and amount of steak and mackerel. Great outside place next to chicago river. They negotiated with other customers and provided umbrella to cover sun for us, great service.

Beautiful views and an excellent staff supper kind and very attentive Marisol was awesome along with all the other staff was more than hospitable would definitely come again thank you guys for an amazing evening

The service was a 10/10 so kind and attentive. I had the ship which was some of the best shrimp I’ve ever had and the truffle fries were ok. I ended my meal with a slice of their cheesecake which is so yummy. 🥰

Food was super good! Had the Ricotta appetizer which was amazing and fluffy. For main I got the Steak Frites and the steak was cooked perfectly, and the fries were cooked in beef fat which seemed to make them not as greasy. Everyone was very kind, and the view was amazing.

Beautiful place right on the river, the Views were unmatched! Food was delicious as well. We got the crab cake, Brussels salad and hummus plate. The pita with the hummus plate was the best I've ever had. It was charred perfectly, light and fluffy. Crab cakes were fresh and very flavorful. Service was on point, very attentive and kind. Only feedback I have was the happy hour margarita was pre-made and wayy to sweet. Other than that, everything was great!

Probably the most underrated restaurant in the city. I have never had a bad meal here. Service is always top notch. Not to mention the amazing views, you’re right on the Chicago River. If you’re thinking about going here, just go! You will be glad you did!

Mark is the best. Porter is fantastic, love the food. And the service is even better. Especially love the river views. Grilled chicken sandwich is fire. Place is still great but I don’t recommend the burger. Soggy bun around a hockey puck and mayo.

Planned a surprise party for a friend and truly could not have picked a better restaurant. A hidden and underrated gem in Chicago. If you need a place for a birthday that has good food and impeccable service look no further than this restaurant. Has an amazing view of the river and downtown area. Our server was Rayshawn (not sure if I spelled that correctly) he was a dream. So attentive and helpful. Everyone at this restaurant is very good. They really helped us pull off a great birthday surprise. We could not have asked for a better experience. Food and service were top tier. I can’t wait to go back. Only downside was I forgot my left over steak and it was too late to go back to get it.

This is a vibrant restaurant with an impressive menu for a reasonable price! If you are up for potential wind in the Windy City you have to eat out on the deck! The deck is directly over the blue Chicago river and has amazing city views! This is one of the best restaurants in Chicago for people looking to have a fun and affordable night!

We are visiting from Indiana and my husband, myself and our toddler had a wonderful experience! Our food was great and came very quickly. Our pomegranate margaritas were delicious. My husband ordered a side of bacon to go with his salad and the kitchen took the extra step to cut it up for him when they didn't have to. And while the restaurant is an upscale mature environment, they were extremely accommodating to our toddler and were so very friendly and warm to our family. From the hosts, to our waiter, to each employee who passed by everyone was so warm and welcoming. We will 100% return!

Had a TikTok of a creator reviewing this place surface my For You Page so me being the avid bar hopper I am (and searching for a place to take my partner on our anniversary), took a chance and came out to test the waters. Made a last minute reservation for 19:30 and showed up an hour early but they were kind enough to seat me anyways. I was promptly given a carafe of water, a menu, and friendly smiles from staff. I placed my order and was served in exceptional timing! Tried something outside my comfort zone and went for the devilled eggs and a simple drink on the rocks which wasn’t too bad. Would’ve loved to have an outdoor seats but they are first come first served and it was a bit packed, but I’m not complaining. Overall, it’s a cool place to dine out if you’re looking for great food, a beautiful view and divine atmosphere.

Porter Kitchen & Deck- This is a wonderful restaurant, perfectly located on the River! I was really impressed with the quality and the taste of the food. It was truly outstanding. 😋 Hummus was super fresh, topped with nicely dressed veggies and fresh grilled pita ( i loved the pita bread so much that i had to get extra) highly recommend. 🌮 Fish Tacos were out of this world. The blackened mahi with grilled pineapple pico de gallo was full of flavor! 🍔 The burger was cooked to perfection. It was juicy with bit of a crunch! Highly recommend! 🍹All of the drinks i tried were great but my favorite was the were definitely the Watermelon Mojito and Old Fashioned Mocktail! I can’t wait to visit during summer when the deck is open because the views are incredible! This is a great spot for your next event or lunch date with your daughter or son 😊 lol

The atmosphere in this downtown waterfront Chicago bar & grill is SMOKIN HOT!!❤️‍🔥 It reminds me of the smoky (sans smoke!), dimly lit, sultry, swanky jazz supper clubs of the 1920's-60's..the vibes continued w/ the music and happy hour chattering. PLUS has outdoor dining directly over the waterfront!! I sat @ the bar, b/c regrettably, I was on a strict two-hr layover time limit and needed swift service so sat @ the bar, which I don't regret, but next time will attempt outdoor seating. Ubiquitously boring sliders were replaced with a trio of ACTUAL filet mignon cooked to desired doneness (med. rare for yours truly), and came with a mound of their truffle fries. Easily the BEST FRIES OF MY LIFE! Melt-in-mouth level tastiness!Listed as an appetizer, it was filling enough to serve as my main course (I think it was probably meant to be shared). Even w/ curved, tufted leather seating at the tables, mahogany bar and prime waterfront location, it was a more Laid-back, casual luxury that set the mood here and not snootiness. Their menu was elevated pub-grub at its finest. Will return again during my next layover!

Came here for my friends birthday and the service was great! I ordered the gnocchi and it wasn’t super saucy, but wasn’t dry either! The serving was only half of the plate, probably for plating aesthetics, so I didn’t have any leftovers. I also ordered their amaretto sour and it was FANTASTIC. Didn’t taste like ones I’ve had before, much better!

We had our company's Christmas lunch on 12/14/18 and the view is amazing. What I loved most is that the waitresses here were on point. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with a smile, they asked our name and what we wanted to drink. I asked for a suggestion because I like fruity drinks and I was introduced to their Netflix and Chill and that's all I needed. These waitresses were SOOOOO attentive that before you were done with one drink another was already on the way. The food was amazing as well. I seriously hope my job books them for 2019.

I had a fantastic meal at Porter Kitchen & Deck, and the highlight was definitely the steak sliders — juicy, flavorful, and cooked just right. We were lucky to get a window seat right next to the river, which made the whole experience even more special with the beautiful views and relaxed vibe while we ate and enjoyed a drink. The service was attentive and friendly, and the overall atmosphere was perfect for a casual but memorable dinner in Chicago. Highly recommend stopping by if you want great food paired with an amazing setting right on the river!

Waitress was great at answering question about food restrictions and allergies. Food was amazing!! We got the whipped ricotta which was the perfect starter, light, tangy and delicious! I got the Chicken Sandwich which was delicious, crispy and evenly seasoned! I replaced regular fries with the truffle fries and the fries were fresh, also crispy, and the truffle is the star! My friend got the steak frites done medium, she said it was perfect temperature and melt in your mouth (fries were lacking desire). So go with the truffle! Drinks were also tasty!

Came to visit my bestfriend from out of town and she brought me here. Beautiful views, great food but what stood out the most was the service. Everybody was very attentive. Our server was Gavin and I would highly recommend asking for him. He was such a delight! He was on top of everything. Not once did I need to ask for anything. Very funny and nice. Would definitely be back. Thank you!

We sat outside by the water since the weather was so beautiful. It was lovely however seating is close to the subway/tram and it's loud and goes by every 10-15 mins. It's a more upscale restaurant but worth it. The steak with fries was marvelous!!

We recently hosted our wedding rehearsal dinner atPorter, and it exceeded every expectation we had. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel welcome and completely taken care of. The private dining space was beautiful—intimate, stylish, and perfectly arranged for our group, plus the view of the river was gorgeous. The food was absolutely outstanding. The food was beautifully presented and incredibly flavorful. Our guests particularly enjoyed the pita & hummus and the salmon. The cocktails were excellent, and we loved all of the different options the bar had on offer! Service was truly exceptional. Drinks arrived quickly, plates were cleared discreetly, and the meal's pacing felt natural and well-timed. We couldn’t have asked for a better venue to kick off our wedding weekend. Highly recommend for any event—or even just a great night out.

Great food and service. Really liked their pulled pork sandwiche. The bruger was alright. Nice friendly staff and very enjoyable to seat outside if whether permits. Will be coming back again here for sure.

We visited Porter Kitchen and Deck during our vacation and had such a great experience! Our group of 5 had a reservation, and the atmosphere was perfect with a beautiful view of the river running through downtown Chicago. I ordered the crispy shrimp appetizer and the lobster roll for my entrée—both were very good. Overall, the food, views, and experience made this a spot I’d definitely recommend.

Chicken sandwich had a bit of a weird taste but the aïoli made it a lot better and the truffle fries weren’t fresh but Lupe had no problem getting me a salad in stead which was fresh and simple amazing. The service was great very nice experience. But the sliders and Shrimp were very yummy.

Gavin was fantastic! Such warm and friendly service. Made our evening. We'll be back.

I have to say the disappointment in the food in this place was insane…. The crispy shrimp app was amazing. I was so stoked for my food when we got done with that. But when I received my halibut entree I was so disappointed. Severely under-seasoned (salt) . No color on it and overcooked. The broccolini also, missing salt and it was barely charred. I legit feel like I was eating nursing home or hospital food. The person I dined with had the brick chicken. It was slightly better, at least the chicken had color on it and a bit more salt, but still under-seasoned. I suppose I should have verified how the halibut is prepared…but with such a good rating on here, figured it would be good…and especially after the shrimp. The drinks were great. Service was quite good, but when we arrived the person at the host stand barely said anything, no welcome greeting and barely said a word. Server was quick and friendly. Ambience is amazing. While I was very disappointed in my entree, the experience was still a good one. Just will have to ask some questions moving forward if I return…or return my food 🙃

We had a less than stellar experience here. The food was subpar for the price and the service was just okay. The views are beautiful and the drinks were decent. The restaurant is incredibly loud, so be prepared to shout to your neighbors when having conversation.

It is a beautiful location right on the river and would think in the warm weather it is a good stop for a cocktail. Food was ok service was good. Good selection of cocktails.

My review is from a vegetarian’s perspective! Not a lot many options for people who do not eat meat. You can either get a Hummus from the starters or pasta from the main course which is made of spinach and pesto! People who do not have any food restrictions has a plethora of food options to choose from! The place truly gives the great city vibe as you see the river outside the window! It does have a bar too! I personally felt it is a little pricey! Crew serves and takes care of you well from start to finish! I would say surely checkout this place once and decide for yourself! When you get inside the building, turn right and take elevator downstairs to access this restaurant :)

Was looking forward to trying Porter’s but left disappointed. The table was wobbly and uncomfortable to eat at. Ordered steak but wasn’t given a steak knife until after struggling with the butter knife. Service felt slow — drinks took a while and by the time anyone checked on refills, I was almost done eating. Apart from that the views and food were pretty good. The steak was cooked well and if you like crunchy fires then they definitely hit the spot. I understand every place can have off days, but for the price and reputation, I expected much better attention to detail.

Good service and a decent ambiance. The apps were nothing special, but the brick chicken was shockingly bad. The jus had an odd, gluey consistency with no flavor. The arugula salad was clearly old and wilted. Worst of all, the chicken itself had a rubbery texture and an off-taste that made it hard to eat. Couldn’t get myself to eat it so. One of the most disappointing restaurant dishes I’ve had in a long time.

absolutely terrible! I came in and they seated us at the tall round table, i asked to switch because we weren’t comfortable but the host said no and made us sit there. my table was the first to come in and get our orders taken but it took maybe almost an hour for them to bring out the food. My lobster roll was disgustingly cold and had no flavor at all, so bland. My mom’s steak was tiny and so salty, for the price it shouldn’t be THAT small. Our server was no where to be found and our food was served by someone else. The food was ok it wasn’t anything crazy like the price but edible. The check was 600$ and they automatically tipped themselves 90$ on the scanner, it was unbelievable. The service was terrible yet still had the audacity to give themselves such a high percentage, 20%. The service was 10$. MAXIMUM. They also didn’t tell us that changing from fries to a salad costed more, why ask in the first place if it wasn’t free? NEVER COMING AGAIN!!! TERRIBLE!!!
