You walk in and all staff who sees you greets you. Smiles. Makes you feel welcomed. The other waitress took my dirty empty plate. Waitress had gave us to go containers and bags for it. Food was 😋 yummy.
Great home style comfort food. Very attentive service and you won't wait long for the food. My only gripe is the price for chips and salsa..
We Love the meatloaf!! Honestly, we have never had a bad meal. Thr best part is the homemade pies.
Gg;s cafe is known to everyone that lives in Marion and those like us who drive a half hour or more from San Marcos at least weekly to enjoy excellent reasonably priced scratch cooking. If you can make it for their daily lunch or dinner specials, give it a try and you'll be back!
I was visiting from Denver Colorado, I ate at this restaurant with a friend, very good food. This town is very small but very friendly people. The next time I'm in Texas I'm coming back here.
The food was delicious! The Cajun Catfish was seasoned and fried to perfection. The grilled Shrimp with garlic butter was very good as well. The green beans were from grandma’s kitchen. The staff did not disappoint!! Trinity was our server but Melissa, Lindsay, Kathy and Alma were super kind and helpful with suggestions too!!! Can’t wait to go back and try something else on the menu!
I had the Fried fish with okra and coleslaw slaw and it was delicious. Hush puppy's were alittle on the toasted side but still delicious. Recommend the stop in to have a quick lunch.
Such a great hidden gem! Almost hope a lot of people don't find out about this quiet, homey place with great servers, great atmosphere, and great food!😉
I love coming to this place. It's my go to stop for some good ol chicken fried chicken. The chicken is of the best quality. It's always hot and served on time. I never put my fork down when engaged with this plate. I have also recently just eaten one of the best burgers in Guadalupe County. If your driving down 78 and don't stop here for some great grub you have made a big mistake. The servers are great and Melissa was such a blessing to have as my waitress. Gg's always provides excellent service. This place is a must.
Been there several times. This visit was great! German sausage, potato salad and the coleslaw was awesome!
Everything I've had hear has been great! Everyone is always very polite, and helpful. I've still haven't had the desserts but going to non the next visit.
Love these small town mom and pop restaurants. Everything looked amazing. We had chicken fried steak (hand breaded) and a cheeseburger with homemade onion rings. We are definitely coming back.
I had been waiting for months to try this place and it did NOT disappoint. The Chicken Fried steak was amazing. The staff the is super friendly and the price are very reasonable. HIGHLY recommend.
I didn't think to take pictures before I scarfed my meal down, but when I realized that the place where I was dog sitting was within 10 minutes of Gg's, I had to swing by and get some food. The burgers are always good, and they have a number of sides and desserts that you can choose from. Edit a few months later: Once again, I didn't think to take a picture of the burger and sides, but here's a picture of the pecan pie.
Older building, very relaxed atmosphere. We got our orders quickly, but it wasn't busy on a Monday evening. We used to go to Guerkes before it got bought out and my husband found out that GG means Guerkes Girls. The owner is an OG from Guerkes. Same food, service and what you'd expect from the original restaurant. Parking is a bit odd. They have a drive thru so you can park around back, you have to park on the street or the side lot. Parking is tight. The people are very easygoing and friendly! I recommend the chili cheese fries and the chicken fried chicken. Portions are huge, we split a plate. $55 for 4 people.
If you are looking for an authentic home cooked style meals in a vintage style resort with wood floors and good ole customer service...GG's in Marion awesome! We use to love going to parents restaurant Goerkes and this takes us there. Our waitress was sooooo awesome! Made us feel at home. My parents are elderly and dad has Alzheimers but the menu has Fish and he surprised us when he pointed to the fish and the fact that he ate ALL of his fish (dad is in a stage where has lost his appetite for his favorite foods)! So we're so happy he ate his whole meal! I do need to mention the parking a little tricky...both my parents have walkers so I came in on side road and back parking entrance a little bumpy and was weird to park in..both were opposite entries...so I think I messed up...but it was a little "rocky" distance to door but when leaving I backed up as close as I could so wouldn't have to walk far..but in front of restaurant great little sidewalk! So if driving through...definitely stop by!!
In my opinion: The BEST texan style restaurant in the whole San Antonio area... The dishes are delicious, generous portions, and reasonable prices. Location is very easy to access form the road. And the customer service was excellent. I felt like I was visiting my aunt in Texas. I felt at home. Will for sure go back again next time I visit San Antonio.
This was the 1st time we had been to Gg's since the new owner came in. The food was delicious, with enough leftovers to make a 2nd meal with. The servers were very friendly with the small town feel that you cannot get anywhere else. Update (12/20/2020) They still have amazing food, and great customer service. They had live music, a man playing a guitar and singing songs. The owner asked what kind of music we wanted to hear and he performed some Christmas carols along with some other goodies like George Strait and Merle Haggard.
Such a welcoming staff! Seems to be the most popular place for lunch in that little Texas town. The history hanging on the walls made everything feel authentic! The food was good, and the baked goods were hard to pass by, even though portions were certainly enough
What's not to like about a home town, not chain restaurant. They are nice people that make good food and have good portions da' boot. Today's feast was chicken fried chicken with mashed potatoes cream gravy and a side salad. My chicken was cooked perfectly and moist. Our son had chicken strips that were the best he has had in a long time. With homemade sauerkraut and another side. That sauerkraut was the bomb. My wife's fried catfish was plentiful and gone! To top it off we split a piece of chocolate cake. Then to top that off, we purchased a loaf of their bread to take home. Pleasantly full but not weighed down. Time to take a step off of mainstream and enjoy the local place
This is a great place for comfort food/homestyle cooking. It’s clean and is decked out with Texas decor - I dig that. The service was a little slow getting started with the menus and drink orders, but then things picked up. Grilled chicken breast was really good and not dry. The bacon cheeseburger was good but they charge extra for the cheese (.59) and the bacon ($1.49). The fries were good at first, but the more I ate, the more they started to taste like catfish. I suspect they’re fried in the same oil as the catfish. I’m sure this is the norm at most places, but you could really taste it here. Despite the issue with the fries, I’m keeping this one on my “go to” list. The rest of the menu looks so good! Plenty of parking, easy to get in and out of.
Review: Gg's Corner Cafe 129 W San Antonio St, Marion, TX 78124 This is a staple in Marion and although I've eaten at this spot on multiple occasions, my review reflects this day. Onto the Food: Breaded Bone-In Chicken Wings (Drums 6.5) and (Flats 8): First, love breaded wings. Second, I love flats. The drumsticks were not as tender as the flats. I tried ordering flats only, but they were not able to accommodate. The Ranch Dressing (7.5). Chili (7.5): I ordered a cup. I enjoy eating chili with no beans. This spot has just that. I added Cheese and Onions for an extra charge. Okra (6) Although fresh and slightly crispy on the outside, they tasted slightly slimey on the inside. Double That Burger (6): The bread was too soft. It didn't seem to be toasted. If it was, it was only on the inside. The meat, although had potential, did not have any seasoning which made it very bland. Jalapeno Mayo (5)... Didn't have much taste. Burger did not come with fries or onion rings. Bottled Soda (10): They had Coke Zero!!! Atmosphere (7): Has a nice homey feel to it. You can see the regulars there and most are very friendly. Service (9): Very friendly and attentive. Overall (7): It was okay. The food lacked flavor and may not be the highest grade of product. We may not visit for a while. The wife seems done with this spot. Disappointed, "Big" Henry
Although I have had other items on the menu, I had the cheeseburger and sadly it is from a frozen patty. Not good at all! And side portions are very small. Surprisingly small. If you really want an authentic comfort food meal just drive a couple more miles down the road to Blakes Cafe in McQueeny. They don't freeze their meat. Side portions are plenty. Everything fresh and you can really see/taste the difference.
