Hello, I really enjoy this place and I truly appreciate the atmosphere. I just wanted to kindly share a small concern. I’ve noticed that sometimes tables are occupied for several hours by people who only order hot water, while other customers who come to purchase food or drinks are unable to find seating to work or have meetings. This can feel a bit uncomfortable for regular customers, as it limits seating availability and affects the business as well. I share this with respect and in the hope that it may be considered.
I stopped by Caffè La Scala in Walnut Creek and had a really pleasant experience. We ordered coffee and asked a few questions about their menu—at one point we were almost tempted to order pizza for breakfast because it looked so good, but decided to save that for another visit. The staff were very friendly and helpful, offering feedback and answering our questions without any rush. I ordered a caramel macchiato and really enjoyed it—smooth, balanced, and exactly what I needed to start the day. The atmosphere in the morning was quiet and calm, making it easy to sit and have a conversation. It does get more crowded as the day goes on, but it never felt overwhelming or too loud during our time there. Overall, a cozy spot with helpful staff, good coffee, and a welcoming vibe. I’d definitely come back, maybe next time for that breakfast pizza I skipped!
It's absolutely one of my favorite places to grab coffee and lunch in Walnut Creek, Ca! This little Italian style café has wonderful outdoor seating in the back with an outdoor fountain. This cafe is considered to be more of a sit, stay, and just enjoy the ambiance and not a grab and go like Starbucks. Don't get me wrong, you can still grab and go, but sometimes you just have to just sit and take it all in. Rich chocolate cream puffs, cafe au lait, a chicken caprice sandwitch served with pesto, tomato, and soft mozzarella cheese with rustic sour dough bread! As an added bonus, sharing this moment in the presence of my amazing girlfriend, absolutely delightful! The side salad could use some work, but it won't stop me from coming back for more! Until next time Caffè La Scala
Caffe La Scala successfully captures the cafe culture feel of a family run establishment in Central Europe. There is a vibe and energy at La Scala missing from most larger, corporate style coffee businesses. Having been in business for 30+ years hasn't diminished the friendliness of the staff, the cool world music or the homemade flavor of the menu cake and pastry offerings at the Cafe. Not to mention the coffee and beverage options. The clientele composed of students, regulars and elders love coming to La Scala to study, work and converse. Considering myself a tough critique of Cafes, I'm quite happy to have discovered La Scala recently.
Love this place it's a gem if you want to step out after dinner and get coffee or a glass of wine and dessert. Awesome atmosphere, with old school music playing in the background. Definitely will go back
This is my favorite Cafe in Walnut Creek. The Atmosphere and quality of coffee & food is top noch. This spot is a true Italian style Trattoria open early and late nights. It is always busy with folks working, reading, meeting with friends. It is just an all around everything spot.
I love this place! I’m on a quest to find the best places/cafes to study and get work done. Currently, Caffè La Scala is in my Top 1. I like the vibe—very classy and sophisticated. There’s indoor and outdoor seating. There’s outlets for charging, but you have to order food and there’s a 2 hour limit. I enjoy being here, and studying while classic songs are playing. I was able to focus and get work done. There’s a wide variety of pastries, salads, and sandwiches. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE STEAK SANDWICH. It’s to die for. Everything melts in my mouth. The. BEST. It has blue cheese, arugula, avocado, and I believe pickled onions. I’ve never tried a sandwich this good. I’ll definitely come back. I feel safe seeing 2 police cars parked across the street from where I’m sitting.
I ordered the egg sandwich on focaccia bread. The bread top was toasty and buttery, the bottom was nice and spongy. We loved it here! The sandwich had good taste and it was a very good size. We loved that we got our coffee and our lemon poppyseed scone right away when we paid up front. We absolutely loved that we could have a conversation without the music being overwhelmingly loud. It had a nice jazzy/ 1920s vibe. Plus the bathrooms were really nice and clean 🙂👍
Charming cafe located I. Downtown Walnut Creek. I ordered an Americano and a piece of sweet bread, both delicious. They have a wide selection of drinks, sweet breads, treats as well as soups and sandwiches. The atmosphere is quaint and quiet, with wifi to sit and use your devices. Nice service, prices to be expected.
Always an excellent dining experience when I come to La Scala. Freshly made quiche to order, the best freshly made pastries, excellent tea/coffee options. Indoor and outdoor seating are comfortable. And the service is so Fast! Food and beverages come out quick. It’s great! This place is classy, quiet and has outstanding servers.
Stopped in for lunch the other day. It was the second time I have been here. My previous visit I only got coffee but this time me and my girlfriend stopped in for lunch. They have indoor and outdoor seating, if you want to eat inside you will need to present a negative test or vaccine card. Since we were not comfortable eating inside we opted to sit outside. I ordered a Cafe au lait and a apple and brie pannini, my girlfriend ordered a strawberry Italian soda and a pulled pork sandwhich. Both came with a nice simple salad. The food was fantastic and the coffee was great. Will stop by again, maybe for one of their tasty looking pastries and a coffee next time.
Really nice European style Caffe, delicious sandwiches and drinks, cute inside with an atrium also. Service was friendly and efficient, had the la Scala sandwich special, yum! I'll be back. 🙂
Great lunch or coffee spot. Had the soup of the day and it was good. Staff were friendly. Good amount of small tables inside with the the ones on the wall have power outlets. I couldnt connect to the Wifi after many attempts and it wasnt packed full of people so not sure whats the issue there so thats 1 star off. Other than that great spot.
Be aware that there is 2 hour maximum for wifi that isn't posted anywhere. Lost all my work and was late to a virtual meeting because I was suddenly kicked from the wifi for the next 24 hours. When I went to ask, they said it was because I hit my limit and there was "nothing they could do." Their wifi policy wasn't like this years ago. Very 2008. If you plan to get serious work done, don't come here. Along with the sudden Wi-Fi policy, they added that I needed to move from the handicap table. Not because anyone with greater needs was coming, but because they profiled me and presumed I wasn't disabled enough to sit there. Despite letting able-bodied old ladies sit there minutes earlier. As far as the food, they served me tiramisu with a dirty spatula from a water-filled trough. Large portions and decent prices. But like their menu and policies, outdated, inefficient, and a little ignorant. I won't be coming back.
It was my first time visiting this place, and I have mixed feelings about it. The ambiance felt off, especially with all the tables marked for customers with food only. I understand the need to limit table use to diners rather than people who just come in for coffee and linger, but it created a somewhat uncomfortable atmosphere. The layout with tables in the middle also didn’t feel very cozy. I ordered a tuna sandwich, which was just okay—not quite what I expected. Some places have a warm, inviting vibe that makes you want to stay, but this one felt more like: eat, finish up, and leave. It was a strange feeling overall.
cool place, good cannoli and drinks, ordered what i realized to be a grocery store caesar salad starter kit put on a fancy plate, and a $20 bland chicken pesto panini i could have made better at home. the chicken noodle soup was very unfortunately mediocre as well. i personally enjoy flavor, if that’s not your thing then definitely go here nice music tho, i love jazz
