It's overall quite simply amazing. Great coffee makes great coffee drinks. In house chef creates classic French dishes from scratch. French- and Viet Namese-style pastries with pork and turkey, vegetables, and herbs stuffing, steamed pork buns, bahn mi.....and great coffee!
My experience overall was great. Atmosphere was cozy, the traditional Viet coffee that I ordered was strong and sweet, and the food was spot on as well. Good place to dine in, dine out, relax, or work. Corpus Christi needs more places like Saigon's.
I've been coming here since I moved to corpus chasing a Vietnamese coffee (Black coffee mixed with condensed milk with high levels of caffeine) It's a nice place to come and study with the relaxed atmosphere. You can tell the Chef cares deeply about whatever he comes out of the kitchen or barista station. Gained a loyal customer based on dedication to quality 🤌
We ordered the pork rice bowl, banh mi, steamed bun and a Vietnamese coffee. It totally exceeded our expectations. Our experience was great and the food was even better. You must try this place. The owner is the chef and you can tell that he is well trained in his craft. Amen
There are places I choose to go. But, now this is the place I HAVE to go! The expectations ground you when you walk into the small establishment then the enchanting layout has you intrigued. Soft music, books, upright piano and then the multiple chessboards levels it up. But, when you reach the register the menu and service starts the upward climb. Ordered the butter steak bowl and expected the typical bowl from a restaurant. Tricked again and this platter is laid before my wife and myself. Almost hit my head on my pretenses that shattered after the first bite of clean cooked steak with sticky rice. Chef Christian added fresh vegetables as a palate cleanser! A palate cleanser in Texas! That little kitchen and small shop punch way outside of their weight class. See you soon!
Coconut latte was so good and perfectly made. Staff was so sweet and the chef was so welcoming and embraceful! A really welcoming atmosphere will definitely be back to study and relax here!
First time here. Never experienced Vietnamese coffee before. The whole experience was exceptional! The drinks were very good! Staff was extremely helpful in assisting me to choose a handcrafted drink I would enjoy! I had a cafe sua, a mocha latte and a pain au chocolate orange. All of it was delicious! Definitely recommend and will for sure return! Love, love LOVE this place!
Duuuuuude, Corpus is sleeping on Saigon. Their pork bahn mi... Is massssive and delicious! They specialize in a variety of Vietnamese Coffees, but also have traditional lattes/etc. they recently opened up a French menu that my buddy said was the best he'd ever had. The only downside is that their location is too small. It's suuuuper cozy but man they've been getting popular (for good reason) so sometimes you may come in and not be able to find a spot to chill and eat there.
Hands down my favorite 1. coffee place 2. restaurant and 3. study place. I get an iced latte each time but love the Bahn me steak sandwich. Don’t you dare buy the last blueberry danish from under me! All baked goods are made in house and are phenomenal. The Classic French menu they serve Fri-Sun is excellent. Chef Christian is great along with his friendly staff. They also have a drive thru which I’ve never used, but hey, added convenience for those on the go.
This is the best coffee I’ve ever tried in my life. 5 stars isn’t enough. This is the most random yet underrated spots in corpus. The chef put his life into this place, and it truly shows. Come here if you want a special experience. We will miss you when we move
I ordered the Beef Bourguignon and it was phenomenal. The carrots and potatoes melted in your mouth, the beef and broth was so rich and sublime. My boyfriend got the Steak Au Poivre the mashed potatoes were delicious the steak had a lovely char on the outside while maintaining that blue to rare inside. The peppercorn sause was masterful overall 10/10. For drinks we got the Pandan milk tea also fantastic and I don’t even like pandan. I got the strawberry lemonade which was more sweet than tart but still delightful. 10/10 my favorite weekend brunch spot. The French cuisine is only Friday-Sunday so it’s hard to get spoiled on delicious food.
This place is amazing; the vibes, the coffee, everything. I tried the cafe sua and wow… it tastes just like what you’d get in Vietnam. Super rich and creamy, but still has that strong coffee kick. You can tell they really care about keeping it authentic. The café itself is super cozy and has such a cool, cultural feel — like a little slice of Saigon right here. Definitely coming back (probably way too often 😅). If you’re into Vietnamese coffee, you have to check this place out
What an amazing dining experience 😍 Wow! Seriously people! The atmosphere when you walk in is so soothing and welcoming. Chris the owner is such a nice man. His staff is always happy. The music is always great. They have board games for adults and kids. I never wait long for my order no matter how much I order 😆. The seating is comfortable for my back. Now let me tell you... They have the best drinks and food. He's a real top notch chef! The man is legit! The menu is all homemade by him. They even roast their own coffee. Always smells good in the café. I've been coming here now for years and I just realized I needed to give this place the love it deserves. So that's my experience and hope you check out Saigons Civet Cafe and say hi to Chris the owner. Definitely home away from home vibes!
Definitely coming here again. If you don’t know what food options to try, we got the Paté Choud and if was amazing. The pastry was crispy and buttery and the filling tasted similar to a wonton. Also their atmosphere is so relaxing! There is a piano for talented guests along with chess, a lot of books, and trinkets for purchase. Staff was so kind. 10/10
We came out to Corpus Christi for the weekend and stopped at this place for coffee on the second morning. I read reviews and decided I want to have the authentic Vietnamese coffee with coconut milk. Barista decorated it with dragon! I loved it! We also wanted some breakfast and I really liked the description of thr ‘Michelin scrambled eggs toast’. However, they don’t have gluten free bread, and I’m gluten sensitive. The owner, Christian, came out and gave me alternatives to the bread that included avocado and cherry tomatoes. I enjoyed this breakfast very much! Next time we are in town we will definitely stop by for another cup of coffee and breakfast. Oh, they also have ceramic house cup! I don’t like to drink from the paper cups. Also, the atmosphere inside is very inviting. Several tables had chess boards. This would be a good place to chill at!
Highly recommend! I love this coffee shop! I was in town visiting from Austin and just happened to stop by on my drive back home. Nicole recommended the coconut latte and it is SO GOOD. I also ordered the Pate pastry and banh mi, both incredibly good with authentic flavors. The staff is all very friendly, Christian was telling me the story behind the shop and how they source their coffee beans. Everything is ground fresh daily. Very cute aesthetic, books to read, chess on multiple tables.
First time here. The manager was so helpful in describing the different coffees , and when we told him what we liked to drink , he made perfect recommendations. The atmosphere is very laid back. Sorry, I was not hungry . The muffins were huge and looked great. I want to go back and try lunch. They have books and games. A piano. It's just a great place to relax.
Loved this spot and wish I could give it 5 stars. My cappuccino was great, but my husband's americano looked like weak tea. The food was outstanding. I had a turkey pie, my husband had a croissant sandwich, and we shared a blueberry guava pastry. What's a little weird is that they have a Vietnamese menu for Tues through Thursday, French menu items only Friday through Sunday. And when asked about the Vietnamese items, 3 employees had no idea how to describe the dish. Finally, the chef himself told us no Vietnamese food was available and took our order. We liked the look of the place and sat in comfy chairs.
First off, really good coffee! We had a latte, a matcha latte and a machiatto. All three were just right. We had a croissant, a croquant and a muffin. Simple choices and so good. If I lived here I'd come back to try every single menu item. If the food or coffee doesn't tempt you, the place is so cute. Just come to enjoy the atmosphere. There was live music playing at a level you could appreciate but still talk at the table without having to shout. I hope locals keep this place prosperous so I can enjoy it again at a future travel date!
I've been twice and ordered the pate choud both times, and the cafe sua on my second visit. The inside is very clean and I love the ambiance. The staff is extremely friendly and the worker who greeted me both times is knowledgeable, happy to explain their process and taste profiles. I was recommended the cafe sua and it's a very smooth flavor. He explained they roast their beans in house. I didn't get a chance to try their matcha but when I asked, he explained they use a Japanese ceremonial grade matcha powder and not a concentrate. Would love to try if I come again. The first time I had the pate choud, it was extremely good! Very flaky and butter soft. I ordered it again, and it still tasted really good but it was warmed a little too long and was tougher to bite into. I noticed it was a tiny bit smaller than the last time so if they use the same cook times, the texture can vary slightly. Parking is easy and plenty of seating both times I went. 4.5/5 stars!
I was really disappointed with my experience here. My egg was burnt, and even after picking off the burnt pieces, the taste had already soaked into the bread. The matcha was even more disappointing. I love ube matchas, but this one was not made properly. The milk smelled spoiled, the ube flavor was barely there, and the matcha itself tasted unpleasant and poorly prepared. I had to go home, strain it, and remake it myself. For the price, it felt like a waste of money. I really wanted to like this place, but I left regretting it.
Went in to just get a coffee to go and would have been better to just home home and make my own. Paid 9$ for practically just milk with no flavor. And for some reason a customer is sitting with all of her things on the counter they put your drink for you to get? Literally a chair pulled up playing music on her phone and talking. 🤨
I was excited to try this coffee, it was just milk in a cup! Pretty rude staff, the owner also was pretty rude and seemed like he treats his staff poorly. I left and went to go get a real Vietnamese coffee somewhere else, and you should too. Also they had no trash can liner and it seemed dirty. I wish I could’ve had a good experience here!
The quality has changed from a few years ago, this used to be our favorite place to get coffee, not anymore. I ordered the coconut latte, no coffee in it just a cup of milk. I wanted a smoothie, couldn't get one because the construction ppl were blocking the smoothie machine. Paid $32.91 for 4 cups of milk. Won't be coming back here again.
