This is a rather non-descript little strip mall restaurant but it is a hidden gem. The food and coffee is delicious, orange juice fresh-squeezed and served in an icy mug! No greasy spoon here, no over cooked hash browns or tough eggs. I had the California omelet, fruit cup, english muffin and my partner had Eggs, Sausage, Toast and Hash browns, both breakfasts were delicious. I'd go back any day for another meal.
Dulce‑Maria, Alma, and Noel made our visit to Mimi’s Star Café truly wonderful. They were attentive, kind, and made us feel genuinely welcomed. Their teamwork and positive energy created such a comfortable dining experience. Thank you for taking such great care of us, we’ll definitely be back because of you! FRESH ORANGE JUICE IS THE BESTTT
What a sweet cafe! The food is really good and plentiful. My wife and I often split a meal and feel full. The staff is the best and if Alma is there, she walks around smiling and singing! This is just a jewel of a family owned and operated restaurant - it does not get better than Mimi’s! The menu is varied with so many options that even the pickiest of eaters will be happy. You will love Mimi’s!
My recent visit to this family owned and operated restaurant was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment I stepped inside, I was welcomed with genuine warmth and hospitality that immediately made me feel at home. You can truly sense the pride and care this family puts into their business. My server, Alma, was outstanding—knowledgeable, friendly, and incredibly attentive. Her recommendations were spot on, and she made me feel like a valued guest rather than just another customer. The entire staff carried that same thoughtful energy, checking in just enough to ensure everything was perfect without ever interrupting the experience. And the food… absolutely AMAZING! My breakfast was incredible! Every bite was cooked to perfection. While the food was fantastic, it was the heartfelt service and family atmosphere that truly set this place apart. It’s rare to find a restaurant where you feel this appreciated and cared for. I wholeheartedly recommend this GEM to anyone looking for delicious food paired with exceptional service. I’ll definitely be returning soon—not just for the meal, but for the wonderful experience this family creates every single time.
FOOD INSTAGRAM: @northtx.gemz •••• 🍒 WHAT THEY’RE KNOWN FOR: local hole in the wall serving amazing brunch food from American food or authentic Hispanic food. 🍒 THE VIBE: simple and easy! Spacious too. 🍒 PRICE: i don’t remember but affordable. 🍒 WOULD I COME BACK? Yes! I have been for awhile. •••• Overall Rating: 9.5/10 - This cafe was surprisingly so good but not that surprising because it has really good reviews on Google. - The jalapeño sauce Angel’s chilaquiles came with was the perfect amount spice and had so so much flavor I had to ask for my own side. - I really have been wanting to come back here after trying it back in April because it just had so much flavor (both of our dishes) and I just love supporting a small business!
I eat lunch at this restaurant everyday, visit with other people there and to a person never heard a bad comment. Food is very good and service is excellent. It is a family restaurant run in both the front and kitchen. That family is friendly and very helpful. They do not offer everything but who does, no one. Come and enjoy say hello to me. I am Bill.
I struck gold with a little Cafe just down Preston from the Baylor. The manager, Alma, is the most fresh air I've seen in a long while, so warm, chipper and attentive and her hustle is unmatched. All the tables are cleaned quickly after someone leaves. Nobody is sitting on their hands here. The menu is awesome and the food I ordered was tasty and reasonably priced. If you find yourself near Preston and 190 wanting some tastiness, pop into Mimi's unassuming little spot on the West side of Preston just South of 190. You will enjoy everything about it.
I finally made it to this place and it’s a gem! Loved the service, food quality, and atmosphere. Staff is super friendly staff, know their regular customers (you can see the joy & relations), and I had the chilaquiles with Chorizo…spicy & delicious! I am going to get it with steak next time. Their steak is super tender, juicy, and good flavor. Lucy was my server and I really enjoyed my experience here. I’ll be back for sure.
Lovely cafe with friendly staff! I’ve always driven by this and never noticed it since it is a bit hidden. Glad I finally found it. Services is good and the manager singing just adds happy vibes. Food and coffee were great. Loved watching the juicer make your fresh juice right in front of you.
First time visitor. We were seated immediately at a clean and comfortable booth. The interior is very nice for a cafe. Great coffee and cappuccino selections. I had black coffee and was excellent. We order quickly and the meals arrived in just a few minutes and was fresh and hot. Overall, I would definitely recommend Mimi’s for breakfast. Bring the whole family. There’s plenty of room.
A good place for breakfast simply because the service was extremely friendly - always smiling and constantly checking on our needs. The Veggie Head Skillet was a little short on veggies and the undercooked hash browns were masked by the eggs on top. The Salmon and Toast went for economy priced lox and its color told the tale. The dietary icons on the menu are clear but perhaps "carne" is the preferred ingredient for most patrons. Truly nice and clean place for a meal if one can overlook the state of the upholstery in some booths.
The friendliness of the employees was phenomenal. OMG Alma had the best spirit and always singing. Yaritza aka Jelly Is the sweetest and gets you seated right away. Anna was our waitress and she was amazing. So vibrant and lively! The food was good and served pretty quick. The OJ was the freshest I have ever had. They make it fresh for you when ordered. My brother and I love grits but in restaurants they are never good so we don’t ever get but he got them today and they were wonderful. Not runny nor were they chunky! The menu is vast lots of must try’s! I was in town visiting and my brother suggested this place based on the story of the owners and supporting small business is always good especially when you get amazing service. Lots of regulars were coming in which is always good to see. I wish I lived closer I would go for lunch as well. But I will definitely come back upon next visit to Dallas. It’s located in a small strip plaza. So it can get crowded quick when leaving business was ramping up.
We've found our new breakfast spot! Try the Chilaquiles! They are the best I've had outside my mom's kitchen. The place is clean and welcoming. The service is second to none and the prices are fair. My husband had the gluten-free pancakes and said they "didn't taste like cardboard" so that sounds like a thumbs up to me. They are open seven days a week until 3:00 PM, even holidays! We went in on Christmas and the employees were in a great mood and not making me feel guilty for being part of the reason they have to work on a holiday.
The food is fresh, delicious and tasty. The staff is amazing and make you feel like family. Definitely a Great place to enjoy a home cooked meal. Plus my waitress was able to help wife stay on here calorie plan. If you enjoy breakfast then this spot is for you. Plus if you are running late don't worry brunch or lunch is right there for you. Be sure to stop in an grab a delicious meal 😎
This is one of the best breakfast spots I’ve visited. The staff are extremely attentive and caring, and the food is fantastic. Our group ordered the waffle combo, French toast combo, bacon cheeseburgers, and a skillet combo. Our waitress Alma may gave us absolutely phenomenal service. This is a very customer-centric, customer loving staff.
I can simply say this was the ABSOLUTELY BEST PLACE we've ever eaten! The lady who greeted us and served us was AMAZING! So attentive and nice and cheerful! Thought surely nothing could top her! BEST WAITRESS EVER! However, she made us cappuccinos (which I usually don't drink) but they were the best thing ever! Then all three of us ordered something different and every, single, thing we got was better than anything we've ever had! We won't visit the Dallas area without going here! They are FANTASTIC!!!
I was looking for a great breakfast place near me and Mimi's was the first up. I was not disappointed with the selection. Johanna was my primary wait person, but what I noticed they were not territorial in supporting the tables they worked as a unit supporting each other. Talk about customer service. All attentive and courteous. I indicated I was looking for a reasonably healthy breakfast and omelette which led me to the Chef's omelette minus jalapeños. Food was out in less than 10 minutes and proved to be the correct recommendation. Food was great tasting and satisfying. While being in a strip, you walk in to a nice quaint environment. Decor was relaxing and modern. I will be back. Thanks Johanna for the recommendations and the staff for your service. Also the establishment is 3 years old as of this posting in 2022.
Hey everybody wanted to let y’all know about a little breakfast/lunch spot. It’s called Mimi’s Cafe up in both Dallas. It’s at the intersection of Mapleshade and Preston road, just south of 190. The place probably holds about 45 to 50 people, so not a large place but not tiny either, it’s just right. I went for breakfast around 10:00 a.m. on a Monday and there were 15 to 20 people there. Their menu is nice and varied. It goes from traditional breakfast teams, to pancakes, Benedict’s, omelet’s, skillet’s, biscuits and gravy, etc.. really attentive waitstaff, courteous and knowledgeable. After getting some coffee, I ordered the three meat omelet (bacon, ham, sausage) with hash browns and marbled rye toast. Within ten minutes I was eating. It was fresh, hot and really tasty, especially the rye toast, it seems to me at least that it’s kind of hard to find in a lot of restaurants around here. The portions were above average for sure and it’s nice to feel that you are getting your money’s worth you know. You can see into the kitchen that’s just behind a small divider wall so you know exactly what is going on, which is also nice. The prices are in a good place, especially these days when cost keep going up. For my breakfast ( three meat omelet, hash browns, toast and coffee ) came to 15.57, which I believe is very fair for the amount and quality I received. So to wrap this up, if you are around this area come on over and give Mimi’s a try, I believe you will throughly enjoy this place, the atmosphere and people. Everyone stay safe out there.
