Love this place. Great atmosphere, great food, great service!
Keep up the good work MONK! You guys have managed to escape the trap of being turned into an average everyday low class bar. Stay true to your Irish pub roots and your business will continue to flourish!
The best neighborhood bar in Dallas. Friendly, fast and attentive service. Reasonably priced food and beverages. Large beer selection. Professional bartenders making proper cocktails. Lovely staff and servers. Outstanding food that goes well beyond your standard Irish pub fare. Highly recommend.
Hands down my favorite pub in Dallas. They pour a fantastic pint of Guinness and have the hardware to prove it. Jude at the bar consistently makes fantastic cocktails and couldn't be a nicer guy,. Fish and chips are the best in Dallas. We are fortunate to have a place like this in Dallas.
Great local pub! Servers are super friendly, great atmosphere that reminds my husband and I of our time living in London. French fries with the 3 types of dipping sauces are so good!!
Very interactive bar tending. Actual interactive to everyone. A kind of bar i wish was more of.
Noemi was great she has an excellent customer service and she went above and beyond for us. I really recommend anyone to her she is the best server there and she will always take care of you. She need a rise and she is the best. I know come every Friday 🙂
Just went here this past Saturday, and WOW - I love this place! The vibes were amazing, the food was delicious, and there was a bunch of drink options too. Our server was Bre, and she was so helpful in helping us make decisions! All of her recommendations were delicious, and she made a great effort to check in our table even on a busy Saturday night.
Literally drove two hours from Ardmore Oklahoma with my wife after getting of work last Saturday. Had no idea what this place was just saw they were open late and I am being 100% honest when I say I'm definitely gonna drive two hours again for the food, loud music and just the atmosphere of the whole place!
The Old Monk has been the best pub in Dallas for decades. You pretty much can't go wrong on any of the food choices Monk Burger, smoked salmon sandwich, or the mussels. The loaded fries are the bomb.
Thank you MsBella Food is delicious environment upbeat and service was awesome thank you for the pleasant hospitality
Stopped in for the first time a few nights ago, but I've always heard of it. The staff was very friendly, including the security. The place was super packed, but the bartenders still came to us nearly as soon as I reached the bar and got us our drink order, a couple of beers, and some shots, within two minutes. We didn't stay long, as I had something come up, but we did sit briefly once we saw a table leave. As soon as we did, a server rushed to us and cleaned the table while welcoming us in. Honestly, the place is a bit too busy for me, but it seems like a great way to meet people and chill. Drinks were pretty reasonably priced. Free parking is across the corner of the intersection. Took me a while to find because I had no idea.
Love this old school classic bar with fresh beer on tap and good food.
The old monk has been one of my go to spots for a while - it’s closest to a pub you really get in Dallas. The eggs Benedict florentine style is amazing - Even the veggie sausage is bomb. Apparently their chef is a vegan! The frites are amazing, and I haven’t really had a bad meal there yet. Expect a wait for brunch but it won’t be long. And it’s worth it!
German plate were great just know you better like vinegar but being German myself reminds me of the old country .The genius stew is not as good as my own but very close lol The biscuits and gravy with chicken very comfort Food . The fish and chips some of the best I have had since I was in Washington State . All around great experience
Been coming here for over a decade and never disappoints! Great beer, selection, fun atmosphere, good food!
The beer list, the bar food, the aged decor and dark wooded dim-lit space is the perfect beginning or end to a night of walking on Henderson. The brunch and late night specials are varied and the staff is very friendly and casual. I recommend the avacado chicken sandwich for lunch, or the slider version if you're with a group. Also have to recommend their black widow beer cocktail. Seriously refreshing and delicious.
Had a great experience! Drinks were incredible. We got our food before we tastes our drinks. Food was exactly as described! Love that. Server was on point. It just so happens that The Porch was not taking anymore reservations(with a half empty dining room on a Friday night) so we said lets try out the Old Monk never been(which was completely full!) The Porch missed out because we will be back at the The Old Monk. Be sure to tag this to the Porch page 😉-Chef Aundre, World Food Champ...
Always love going to the The Old Monk. It makes me happy, and sends me back to Europe (if only for a little while). Food is excellent and creative yet true to traditional dishes. Lovely and prompt, yet unobtrusive, staff. Brunch outside on a bright day, alone or with company, is heaven. Food and drinks inside in the evening is a comfort bubble. Yesterday I was mourning the loss of a pet (....I’m one of those sensitive types....) on a rather dreary night. Their environment, mushroom appetizer, lentil soup and hot toddy helped immensely to ease my soul for a bit.
There's not one thing on this menu that is not good their burgers are absolutely delicious their sandwiches and soups and appetizers wonderful in the environment is loud but it's a friendly environment.
Have a craving for fish and chips, or other classic pub foods!? Want to enjoy a cozy atmosphere to hangout with friends or family? This is definitely the place to be! Great selection of beers, wines, and spirits, and the food was amazing—try out the Reuben sandwich or German platter on a second visit.
It was lovely. It's a smaller place than expected, so getting a table was a bit of a challenge. If you go when it's cold, dress warmly. There is a closed in patio that's heated, but still cold. The food and service were topnotch. The friends we met had expected a place to visit, have food and drinks, and play a few rounds of dominoes. The first part worked, the games while we had a second drink, not so much. For a place to hang out, eat, and drink, I highly recommend it.
Great times are had at the Monk™ Enjoy the best fish & chips, beers, and cocktails around.
The Club, French Onion Soup, and Fish n Chips will always hit the spot. Neighborhood watering hole for us.
This pub is the busier one vs spider Murphy's and fills up first but we were able to get in earlier in the night without a line. Again 2000s music, loud, energetic crowd. Friendly staff that keeps cool under pressure even with the Saturday night crowd. Come here to have fun and meet new people. Highly recommended!
The service was quick. It has a fun, quirky atmosphere. The French onion soup was delicious, one of the best I have had.
Booze and I do not get along, but this place caught my eye and the hardworking crew seemed realy into their customers. It has a huge menu full of items to suit just about any hungry traveler, a pub and outdoor seating. Looks worth it! On the 84 bus south route from Mockingbird Station right after crossing the interstate.
Taylor is the reason we keep coming back here. She is genuine and takes care of us like we are family. She stayed past her shift to take care of us and we will continue to come here to share an experience with her. She really goes above and beyond! Thank you, Taylor.
I've been here twice with my boyfriend and we loved it both times! The atmosphere both inside and outside both have great, old, European pub vibes. The first time I ordered their Fish and Chips, which were deliciously flaky on the outside and tender on the inside. The second time we both ordered the Monk Burger and we split the Loaded Cheese Fries, and everything was decadent and tasty and filling. The service is always nice and attentive. Parking is a pain in this area, if you're lucky you can get a spot in their free lot in the back, otherwise would recommend just doing valet. The other negative I had was that I had their Blood Orange Marg and it was so salty to the point I couldn't finish it. Regardless, I would definitely love to come back here again for great food, atmosphere, and drink selection.
Stopped in while we were on our way to Fireside Pies. What a great local tavern! Tons of locals and regulars. The wait staff was top notch! The whiskey and scotch selections were varied and extensive, all at a very reasonable price. Also a well curated beer selection for the discerning. Stop in if you are nearby!
I googled best fish and chips. This place came up in Best of Dallas. This place did not disappoint. Best fish and chips in Dallas! My daughter ordered lox and bagel. Love the ambience. Too cool!
We came here for the pumpkin 🎃 carving, but we also ate! The fish & chips were so damn good! Bussin’ as the kids say!
I came for “just one pint” and left three days later wearing someone else’s sweater, speaking in a questionable accent, and convinced I’m 1/16th Irish on my mother’s side (DNA test still pending). The Guinness is poured so perfectly it should be in the Louvre. The bartender, Austin (I’m pretty sure that’s his real name and not just what he tells customers), has the patience of a saint and the sarcasm of a man who’s been asked “Do you have anything like Guinness but less dark?” one too many times. Highlights: The fish & chips were so good I briefly considered converting to Catholicism just so I could thank God properly. The bathroom graffiti is poetic. “Roses are red, violets are blue, I came for a piss and met half the crew.” – actual quote. Then you’ve got Hannah, who’s basically the pub’s chaos coordinator. She’s got blonde hair that could guide ships in a fog and a laugh that echoes like a banshee having a great time. Don’t sleep on Wes (we call him that because he only speaks when absolutely necessary, like when someone tries to pay with a Venmo request titled “beer debt”). He’ll nod once, slide you your drink, and if you’re lucky, mutter something profound like “Life’s short, drink good stout.” Then he disappears to polish glasses like he’s auditioning for a monastery. Absolute mystery man, 10/10 enigma. And rounding out the crew is Paige, the wildcard. She’s got stories that start with “Back in then…” and end with police chases, lost sheep, and at least one exploding still. She’ll flirt with your grandma, roast your ex in three sentences or less. These four run the bar like a well-oiled dysfunctional family. They banter with each other louder than the jukebox, remember birthdays you forgot you told them, and have an unspoken code: if you’re having a rough night, they’ll slide you a free shot and pretend it was a mistake. If you’re being a gobshite, they’ll roast you into next week without missing a pour.
The Classic All-Rounder (5/5) The Old Monk remains a Henderson Avenue staple for a reason. Whether you’re looking for a perfectly poured Guinness, a massive selection of Belgian beers, or actually good pub food, this is the spot. The atmosphere is cozy and authentic—it feels like a real neighborhood local. Don't skip the fish and chips!
I was here with some friends just under two weeks ago, and it was a nice experience. Parking was a little difficult but only because the Knox–Henderson area is busy on weekend nights, but I didn’t mind the walk. Even though it was packed enough to make finding a table also somewhat difficult, I was with a large group of > 20 people. After finding a spot, I decided to order the Stilton burger and their house salad, both of which were fantastic. Despite not being the most frequent bar attendee, I’d happily return to the Old Monk and try more of the food for its great taste and for the staff’s warm service.
Great place to unwind. Ended up going nearly every night while working in Dallas. Great food and really friendly staff. Big shout out to Faith really looked after 3 old men. PS the Stella is great. 😁🍻
Good place to get a beer. They also have great food. I got the fish and chips which had a nice batter and was very tasty.
Great mimosas and turkey club! We had Taylor, she was so sweet, friendly and attentive!!! Pass on a big thank you and a hug to her from us ☺️
Shout out to our server Taylor!! My boyfriend and I came in one night when it was super busy and she still made it a point to give us great service and make sure we had everything we needed. Definitely will be back for her and the fish and chips!
This is one of my favorite Knox/Henderson bars. The food is spectacular, the location is awesome (they even have free parking) and the ambiance is pure Dallas awesome. The prices are decent and the selection of draft/ bottled beer is excellent. I love their cheeseburgers! Extra props for the propane heaters outside. They keep it warm enough to sit outside all winter.
I’d like to thank the bartender for above and beyond service. 09/12 12:23 am. He brought me a chilled glass outside during a busy bar setting. This is an A+ bar, best service and staff in town. Highly recommended! Thank you for your kindness.
I love coming here every weekend. Not only is the French Onion soup fantastic, but so is our server, Bella! She always gives me the best drink recs based on what I described my pallet to have an affinity to. Always makes my day!
Sit wherever you want. It’s nice out on the patio when the weather is good. The fish was crispy and tasty with the side tartar sauce, not fishy tasting. The fries were seasoned great and I think you could ask for the skinny fries if you prefer those. Free drink samples on beer if you are unsure which you would prefer!
We used to come here all the time before we moved from the area. We came back today it was great as usual. I typically get the chicken strips because they might be my favorite in Dallas. Today I went with the chicken, biscuits, and gravy on the brunch menu. While I thought it was good, I regretted not getting the chicken strips. They are too good! The rest of the group got a salad and eggs Benedict and said it was great (pictured). A dog friendly patio is a plus and the staff immediately brought us a dog bowl. Highly recommend if you want a casual bite with good drinks!
4 stars only because we went on St. Patrick's Day lunchtime, had to wait on a table-u have to sit yourself. I ordered vegetarian Reuben, the portobello mushroom was tough, otherwise I liked the combination of ingredients. I ordered a side of german potato salad- forgetting it had bacon in it.
I really enjoy this place. Very laid back pub environment. Lots of beer selection, the service has been good both times I've been. It's hands down the best fish and chips I've ever had. The sliders we had were really flavorful and the pretzel was beyond yummy!! Easy parking as well!!
Atmosphere: clean, laid back and casual. Fish and chips: Amazing! Service: excellent I love a good plate of fish and chips so I decided to try this place. They have an expansive outdoor seating area that is warm and inviting with wooden tables and plants. Most of the area is covered and they can enclose it by lowering the side curtains if the weather is bad. The fish and chips were excellent. Perfectly battered, crisp and juicy. The home made tartar sauce had capers in it and it was good as well. The service was excellent. I got my food approx. 10 min after ordering. The wait staff was attentive. There is also an attached parking lot with dedicated parking which is a big plus. Overall great experience. I will return.

Came on a Friday night. Super crowded, but was able to get through to the bar and served quickly. Almost nowhere to stand
The food so great and there is a good option of cocktail/beers. Best fish and chips arround. While this place is a pub, the Knox/Henderson yuppie crowd can make it feel like more of a Frat/Sorority party with a snobbish vibe. Drinks a bit pricy
Packed - madhouse - great if you’re in your early 20s. Line around the building . Service did the best they could with the amount of people. They were definitely over capacity. I would say this is a great place for the young girls to meet some frat type boys 😜
Finally had the Monk Burger and boy was it delicious! I appreciate the mist fans for these hot days as well. What made the visit outstanding in my opinion was the service I received from an awesome young lady by the name of America. Nothing less than an absolute delight. The Old Monk overall is well worth your patronage!
Come for the food, NOT the service, or lack thereof. The fact that I come back here every so often should tell you a lot about the exceptional food. I'm a fairly petite woman but when I come here, I eat, like a queen! So many options and it's impossible to pick and choose, so what do I do? Just order everything! See pics for proof. Endless vegetarian options. You can never go wrong with their lentil soup and goat cheese salad. Their fries are fire. Make sure you get them with their signature horseradish sauce. Great place to day drink and people watch outside on their patio.
Loved the ambience and the evening vibes! While the sun is got down, this place is glittering with the golden rays and the golden beer being cheered inside. Must try the fish and chips for how fresh and tasty the fish is and the fries with 3 different delicious dips is just a best side while enjoying the Moscow Mule. Cheers!
Wish we went hungry! The place was packed so we knew that had to mean something good. We were able to find a seat on the inside and ordered a beer. They had some Oktoberfest beers and other specials for Oktoberfest. We had just come from dinner and my husband couldn't help himself and ordered the beef stew! He did not regret it at all, said it was one his favorite stews he's tried and said it was bursting with flavor. I know to go hungry next time as they had a great menu with a variety of pub fare.
Recommended for lunch. Arrived right at opening at 3pm. Had free reign of choosing to sit anywhere I wanted. Parking was easy, right next to the building. Seems like a popular spot for the weekends. Decent menu options. For food & drinks. Tried an Irish Old Fashioned/Moscow Mule. Then too many to count with the El Chapo shots. Yooooo, I’m hook like a pirate now. I think between the two of us, we ordered 8 in total. I like the pub style vibe because it makes you feel like you are not in Dallas once you walk into the place. I got lost in the shenanigans. 🥳 Rose, was fast and a great server. Thanks to her, I’ll make the attempt to replicate the popular El Chapo shot because it really does get the people GOING!!! Had the veggie burger and fries. Solid! No misses. The ranch is good too. Interested in some of the other food options, so there will be a next time visit. Maybe brunch!!! The area can get a little busy so if you want the comfort of finding quick parking without the people, arrive early/opening hour. Feel free to go alone. Sit at the bar. Be one with self. Become wise. Drink and be merry. Reflect. Or just reinvent yourself and be a Monk of modern times. 🤔
Place looks cool, couldn't find parking didn't want to pay for valet, I'll keep trying. Crazy long line for the pizza place across the street definitely wanna try that place out also.
Love coming here for the cheeseboard and beers!! Usually come in and seat yourself. Servers will come by fairly quickly to get you situated. This time got the pretzels but not a huge fan of the cheese dip (just not for me). Everything else is quite tasty. Also stopped in for a mini celebration, so super jazzed for the dessert.

We were so excited to visit the Old Monk. The food didn’t disappoint. Huge portions and full of flavor. Our server was good, but she had a lot of tables, so she was super busy. The only downside was the music. The music was so incredibly loud you had to yell to hear each other, and this was on the patio. It was punk rock music, which is great for jamming, but blaring full blast in a crowded restaurant. Overall disappointed in our visit.

Came down to Dallas from South Carolina to visit my friend for her graduation. I had been to the old monk before and it was great. Well this time, I go up to the bar and tell the bartender(that was rude as hell by the way) what I wanted to drink and he took my ID, inspected it then took it to his manager. He returned it back to me saying he couldn’t serve me. I was so flabbergasted that the staff SNAPPED my ID in half because they thought it was fake. I was freaking out because not only was it our first night in Dallas but I had a flight to take back to South Carolina. I NEED AN INTACT ID TO SCAN AT THE AIRPORT. Asked to talk to a manager and all she did was ask if I wanted a shot..after she had told that nasty bartender to not serve me. Absolutely ridiculous...I would rather PAY MONEY for a shot somewhere else than to have a FREE shot from them. Warning, if you’re young and from a different state or country even, do NOT go here unless you want to pay to get a new ID or not be able to get on a flight back home.
