Tamayo continues to be one of those places that reminds you why classics exist. The ribeye fajitas were the standout. Served sizzling, perfectly cooked, and paired with all the right sides so you can build each bite to your liking. Everything tasted fresh and well seasoned, and the tortillas were exactly what they should be. One thing I really appreciated was the mocktail program. We had only non alcoholic drinks and they were thoughtful, well balanced, and satisfying. It never felt like a downgrade from a cocktail, and I loved leaving dinner feeling good instead of sluggish. Between the food, the atmosphere, and the drinks, Tamayo delivers a polished but approachable experience. It’s a great option for a downtown dinner that still feels fun and indulgent without being over the top.
We came to Tamayo to celebrate our engagement, and the entire experience felt incredibly special from start to finish. As someone who is Mexican, it’s honestly hard to find restaurants that feel true to flavor and not just Tex-Mex, and this restaurant absolutely delivered. The food was authentic, thoughtfully prepared, and full of depth. Every dish honored real Mexican flavors while still feeling refined and elevated. The drinks were impeccable. Smooth, well-balanced, and clearly crafted with intention not just another butchered cocktail, which can honestly be hit or miss in Denver. From the moment we walked in, the space felt intentional and beautiful with resort-like, neutral, luxurious vibes without feeling pretentious. Our server Alex was so attentive, kind, and sweet, and Assistant Manager Scott went above and beyond to make sure our celebration felt cared for. Their warmth truly made the night unforgettable. I dine out often in Denver and love trying new restaurants, and this one truly hit it out of the park. We will absolutely be back and can’t recommend it enough. 💛
The tacos were amazing and the cocktails were fun and delicious. Our server was friendly and attentive. Overall we had a great date night in a beautiful location.
If you’re looking for an elevated, vibrant Mexican dining experience right in the heart of Larimer Square, Tamayo by Chef Richard Sandoval is a standout. From the moment you step inside, the atmosphere strikes a perfect balance of modern elegance and welcoming warmth. The décor is polished and stylish, and there’s a rooftop deck that gives the space a fresh, open feel. Chef Sandoval clearly brings his passion and heritage into every dish, blending bold, authentic Mexican flavors with creative presentation and modern techniques. The menu offers a range of dishes that manage to feel both adventurous and comforting — standouts like expertly seasoned tacos, guacamole and queso fundido, and more substantial entrees like their salmon a la Talla or enchiladas all leave an impression. Service is polished without being stuffy — attentive, friendly, and clearly proud of what the team is offering. The overall flow from ordering to plating is smooth, which enhances the experience rather than detracting from it. It’s also impressive how Tamayo has kept itself relevant over the years. Originally opening in 2001, it’s still regarded as a corner-stone of Denver’s restaurant scene, continually refreshing both its space and its menu to stay dynamic without losing what made it special in the first place.
I really enjoyed Tamayo, enough so I went there twice in a week. Started with the Tamayo margarita that has a great balance sweet sour as I'm one to shy away from sweet drinks. The guacamole with pork belly had a nice balance of tartness to take care of the richness. Quesabirria were excellent elevated version. Good michelada as well
Tamayo is a cute spot for dinner or a date night. The restaurant is beautiful inside. The food was amazing. I loved the shrimp & crab enchiladas. The tortillas were homemade and the creamy guajillo sauce was to die for!
Tamayo is gorgeous inside, with fantastic service and great food. We had the fish tacos and chicken fajitas - both great. The cocktails (we had pisco sours and bourbon old fashioned) were also delicious. Would absolutely recommend.
With an upscale, lighter take on Mexican fare, this restaurant offers delicious food packed with an array of wonderful flavors. I've never been disappointed in Tamayo. Staff is friendly and fast, and the chef produces a wide variety of tasty treats.
We went in on a busy night with no reservation but were immediately seated at the bar and Lupita (I’m sorry if I misspelled that) was amazing! We tried the blackberry and peach margs, “Mexican hummus”, al pastor tacos and the grilled chicken. I would recommend this spot to anyone, the staff, food and vibes were 10/10 and we will be back!
Tamayo’s Happy Hour tacos and margaritas really hit the spot. The service and atmosphere were wonderful. I always appreciate establishments that can accommodate my celiac issues with skill.
The food has a very good taste, we ordered the Tampiqueña and really the mole surprised us very rich, the service very friendly and attentive at all times, the atmosphere is warm and pleasant. The only thing I suggest to improve is “Aguas Frescas”.
A must-try spot. Very welcoming, and the staff was awesome. The food was so good; the tacos were some of the best I've had in a while. We shared four orders of tacos. The pork belly guacamole was good but probably not much different from just getting the guacamole. We got the Brussels sprouts and the churros. All good; we will be coming back!
I have been here twice for the bottomless brunch and had such a good experience both times! The service is awesome and they helped walk us through the bottomless menu and brought us just about everything to try! The drinks were good (not incredible) and they frequently came by for refills, we were never left with empty drinks as some bottles brunches go. I love bringing people here from out of town, as it’s a great experience, share style meal, in a cute area to walk around in.
This place was delicious for some good mexican food and well worth the reservation! We enjoyed their margaritas and empanadas before our meals came out. The Happy House menu was solid so make sure you take advantage of that! I can easily say that their enchiladas were great and we loved everything about this place. Wish we had room to give the fajitas a go, but maybe next time!
Best Mexican brunch. Service was quick and great. We ended up doing bottomless food and mimosa for only $55. Alexis was amazing, she was so attentive and was on top of the table.
Absolutely loved! The food was amazing, our server, Kevin, was great, and the atmosphere is very cozy. The braised pork shank was phenomenal!! It fell off the bone. The sauce is delicious too. My husband got the steak and it was also incredible! Had the perfect amount of char and seasoned well. Also, do yourself a favor, order the churros. They are so buttery and have the perfect crunch on the outside. Highly recommend!
Good service and top notch food. We ate at this place based on a recommendation from a friend and it did not disappoint. I appreciate it the vegetarian options and the jackfruit tacos with some of the best that I've ever had. My friend had the shrimp and crab enchiladas and she loved them. Another friend has the oysters and also that was a favorite.
Ok, ok, ok!!! If someone had told me as a kid that Mexican food could be sooo dang good, my life would have changed. And only for the better! From queso fundito to chicken tinga enchiladas. Carne asada tacos and tortilla soup and fajitas! The balance of flavors and mix of spices set my palate a dancin’ could have been helped by the dragonfruit and tequila drink to begin the nice evening, no? We had a great experience and then headed off to the circus. What a night!
had such a wonderful dinner. the presentation of everything was really beautiful. the quesebirria and salmon were delicious. jake did an excellent job serving us!
Loved the vibe of this place. The staff was incredibly accommodating with my allergies, which I truly appreciated. The food was delicious and satisfying—overall a great experience.
Party of two…sat at the bar for faster service abs it paid off! Bartenders are great and attentive to keeping up with your orders. Samples several of their margs along with a couple beers. Guac with burnt ends is amazing! Carne asado taco are full of flavor - on the smaller side but the taste makes up for it. Churros finished off the evening with a mix chocolate and caramel dips. We are out of towners but would make this a regular dinner spot if we lived closer.
Amazing food, excellent service and atmosphere. It was expensive but every dollar was worthy to be spent! I tried a non alcoholic beverage very refreshing with cucumber, basil and lemonade (I forgot the name but you must try that!), the guacamole was an art. I tried dish with steak and mole enchilada - flavors and taste were deliciously balanced !
My husband and I came here for their weekend bottomless brunch. Their food was delicious and their mimosa was great. Our server was great. We did request no cheese on our food so some pictures may be misleading. Overall great experience.
I had the pleasure of dinning at Tamayo during a trip to Denver . I absolutely loved the food and atmosphere and service . Creative regional dishes elevated to a unique level of authenticity, makes this restaurant some of the best Mexican food I have had outside of Mexico . We got their guacamole as a starter to accompany our sangria . Delicious , semi chunky guacamole with a great freshly made tortilla chips For a Main I chose the carnitas especial which included a crispy pork belly … wow melted in my mouth ! As a special that night was pork chile tacos with beautifully hand made tortillas . Delicious !! Our waiter and staff were excellent and very helpful explaining the menu . Great decor by the bar and cool mural too (photo included ) I will recommend this place to anyone visiting Denver as it is absolutely amazing . Keep up the great work !
Tamayo was the perfect finale to an incredible week in Colorado. The carne asado tacos deserve their own Hall of Fame, the chips, salsa and guac didn't disappoint, and the sides hit like the best supporting cast. The atmosphere is lively without being loud, and our waitress delivered customer service so sharp it felt like a superpower. Five stars, easy—this spot sealed the trip.
Great environment and service. The food was amazing especially the tacos were out of the world. The fajitas were sizzling hot and flavorful. The zero proof cocktails were disappointing, too sour. But otherwise everything was great!!
Even though the service was just OK and a bit slow, the food was amazing! Ceviche had tons of lime and just enough spice level. I wish it came with avocado. The chilaquiles were crunchy (as they should) and the eggs runny but well cooked on the outside. The tacos de carnitas were good too, the meat was tender and tasted great. All three plates gluten free! Price is also fair. Kudos to the chef!
Amazing place to be! They have great cocktails (I love a good Sazerac), good food (tasty tacos), and outstanding service (Kevin, Defino, and Brien). The service and staff truly made the experience personal and memorable, being friendly and attentive. This is my go-to place downtown for happy hour or grabbing dinner before an event. Plus, the patio is amazing during summer evenings!
Been here twice for private events in the second floor space and both times it was spectacular - the food, drinks, service, atmosphere - all of it was done really well. I like that they had a variety of seating options from cozy couches to stools by a fireplace as well as cocktail tables to mingle.
We had the welcome party for our Wedding at the upstairs of Tamayo and had a great experience! The upstairs had recently been renovated and it looked fantastic. The food and drinks were also great, we had numerous guests comment on how tasty the food was, and people were still talking about it the next day! We cannot speak more highly about our experience with the event coordinator and day of staff! It was incredibly easy to setup a visit and we had no problems in our communications to get the event setup. The staff the night of were very professional and thoughtful. The lead was very communicative and constantly checked in with us to make sure everything was going to our liking. The bar staff were all incredibly kind and polite to us and our guests. Everyone was on the same page and they took genuine care to make sure that the event went smoothly. We were so pleased with how everything turned out and would highly recommend them for events!
We had the best time at dinner tonight celebrating one of my best friend’s birthdays and a girls night out. Sean M truly went above and beyond to give us a five-star experience—he never rushed us, gave incredible recommendations, and catered to our needs all night long. 10/10 would absolutely recommend this place for a night out downtown!
We had such an amazing experience at Tamayo in Larimer Square! The food was absolutely delicious — modern Mexican cuisine that still keeps its authentic flavor, which we loved. The atmosphere is super warm and welcoming, and the service was outstanding from start to finish. A special shout-out to the BAR staff, especially Lupita, who made some incredible drinks, and Scott, who checked in to make sure everything was perfect. Thank you for such great service and a wonderful evening! Definitely 5 stars for sure!
Great little spot in Denver! It was my first time here so our waiter, Sean, made some recommendations and he nailed it!! Everything from the appetizers to dessert was amazing. They have such unique menu items that I haven’t seen anywhere else. When you’re in Denver definitely check this place out. We’ll be back!
My best friend and I came to have bottomless brunch on a Sunday and this was nothing short of an amazing experience! Sean was our server and he was amazing and kind! He did an amazing job at explaining every item on the menu and the service was phenomenal. Our favorite dish was the Churro French Toast, it was so amazing! 10/10 recommend!
I attended a business luncheon and had an outstanding experience. We enjoyed a selection of aqua frescas, which were available in a range of delectable flavors. The queso fondido, available with chorizo or mushrooms, was served with a mocahete sauce, pico de gallo, and four flower tortillas. This dish can be easily recreated as a mini quesadilla. The entrées included chicken tinga and shrimp & crab enchiladas. The sauce accompanying the shrimp and crab was a semi-sweet chili Rojo. The service was superb and we'll be going back.
I recently visited Tamayo in Denver for happy hour, and it was an outstanding experience! The vibrant atmosphere immediately set the tone for a fun evening. The lively decor and upbeat music created a great vibe that made it easy to relax and enjoy the moment. The highlight of my visit was definitely the taquitos—they were absolutely amazing! Crispy and flavorful, they were the perfect bite-sized treat to accompany our drinks. Each one was packed with delicious fillings that left me wanting more. Speaking of drinks, the cocktails at Tamayo were fantastic! They offered a creative selection, and everything we tried was refreshing and well-crafted. The happy hour specials made the experience even better, allowing us to sample a variety of drinks without breaking the bank. Overall, Tamayo is a perfect spot for happy hour in Denver. With incredible food, awesome drinks, and a fun atmosphere, it's a place I can't wait to return to. If you're in the area, definitely check it out for a lively and delicious experience!
We tried the bottomless menu, which was a nice way to sample all the dishes. The food was good overall, though some items needed seasoning—no salt, pepper, or sauces were offered, and the chicken was dry. Dessert was the highlight and very tasty. The service wasn’t that great either. Also, double-check your bill; ours initially came overcharged.
Stopped for a mid-afternoon bite & was alerted that they had a very limited menu until dinner. We stayed, it was loud in back as a large group was wrapping up a brunch party. We ordered guacamole & empanadas. Both were good. Service was excellent.
This is my fourth Carlos Sandoval restaurant (Raya, Maya, and ToroToro) but probably the least ambitious of the bunch. Great atmosphere, ambiance and all that but no revelations with the food. It was rather mild, and although I get it is in Denver, there perhaps could have been a bit more umph to it all. Overall, glad I went, as it is another check on list, but nothing outstanding, which is what I have come to expect from his other restaurants...
Pineapple sage margarita was excellent, the chicken enchiladas were also good. The different salsas were very tasty. The guacamole was fresh and the corn chips hit the spot. Jack fruit taco were also great. The only reason for the 4 stars is the giant cockroach I saw crawling on the floor. I saw the manager take care of it and mentioned it to him so I appreciate it.
Tamayo is an up scale restaurant with a flare on Mexican cuisine. We’ve heard about Tamayo and finally decided to give it a go. The decor is nice, the staff were really nice, and the food was good but at a high price. It would be good place for date. However, I think it’s only a try only once restaurant unless you don’t mind spending money. What we got for appetizers. We got the signature salsa for $11 that came with 5 types of salsas. The different types of salsa was good, and chips were nice, and the charred tlayudas (corn tortilla toasted on a grill) was an interesting spin. It was good, but you run out of chips because they gave like 10 tortilla chips (Really?). We also got the guacamole with chips for $16. It was really good but kind of on the pricey side for guacamole. The flavor was good and the quac had some additional peppers with it. They gave plenty of chips, but I don’t think it was good enough for $16. For the entree: I got the skirt steak fajita for $28, it came out nice and sizzling hot with an amazing smell. Great presentation, but I feel like the portion size was too small. If I didn’t eat the appetizers I don’t think the fajita would have filled me up. It comes with a flour tortilla, but I had them substitute with corn tortillas instead. They provided four really small corn tortillas, which wasn’t enough. I asked for more and was charged $1.50 for four more small tortillas. I felt it was petty to charge for a few more small corn tortillas. We also got the pescado for $18 dollars. It came with three soft tacos with salsa. It was good….., but kind of fishy and we’ve had better. I think the price point was still a little too high for this entree. We ordered a side of rice and beans for $7 because it didn’t come with the entrees. There wasn’t anything special about this. Rice and beans were ok. It was good, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to go here.
Stopped in for dinner and the restaurant is breathtakingly beautiful. The rooftop lounge is very nice and heated in the winter, which is appreciated. The food was spectacular… we tried a bunch of appetizers and were thoroughly impressed by each one. I highly recommend the pork belly guacamole & bone marrow and tuna chicharrón. A few hiccups with slow service and unwelcomed critters but nothing that isn’t fixable.
This place has been on my list for awhile and glad to have finally made it. The staff was very friendly and this spot has a cool atmosphere. There was plenty of places to park. We came on a Monday, had a reservation, but didn't need it. The hostesses greeted me immediately and showed me to a table. We started with the Lomo empanadas, pretty good 6.9/10, the chimichurri was a bit of a let down - more oil and very few herbs. The tortilla soup was also alright, not a lot of chicken and had a strong flavor of tomatoes 7.1/10. For entrees I had the chile relleno which was very good, but a little on the small side. The sauce that was under it was the best part 8/10. My friend had the tacos which he liked a lot, he said they were a 9/10. The sides were good, Mexican corn 8.5/10, mushrooms 8.5/10 and the brussel sprouts with homeade mole were fine 8/10. For dessert we each had the churros, which tasted a little like the oil they were fried in, but paired well with the sauces 7/10. I look forward to coming back, a good place for upscale Mexican food in Denver.
First time here and was here for our wedding anniversary. I was concerned at first about parking, but it wasn't an issue as I paid $8 an hour for a lot across the street. This is right on the west end of Larimer Square. Entering the place, we had a 7:30pm reservation and were seated right away but had to wait a long time to get a drink menu and a food menu... Disappointing that they were out of menu's. Our server eventually showed up, Felipe? Very nice and the food was absolutely delicious. I'd give 5 stars if the server was more attentative to us, had to wait a while to order a second round of drinks. Those two things were the only issues there for us.
Excellent service, matched with well plated cuisine from an inspired menu, that is consistently good, but not worthy of note. At this price point, I have higher expectations, especially as Denver is awash with excellent elevated Mexican offerings. The mains were over salted, the cocktails a touch unbalanced (ancho chile marg was enjoyable), the tortilla chips felt a bit like la favorita (which i love), tortillas were great, but not hand pressed, steak over cooked, and ceviche a bit flat. Again, the food was good, but I have (perhaps unreasonably) higher expectations for Mexican in the Mile High City The service here though, was standout out. I will give this place another chance again if for no other reason.
Food and service were superb! I was disappointed by the margarita. Overall a good restaurant.
The food was delicious, atmosphere was warm and inviting. The front station staff were slow to recognize our arrival and the food took longer than was reasonable for a light evening. Prices were where I expected but portions were small at that price point. Having said that it was delicious. I'd reccomend as lunch or a light dinner with drinks, I won’t go when very hungry.
Good vibes, great decor. The food is mid at best. The red snapper ceviche is bitter it's hard to eat after a few bites (usually I drink all ceviche juice). The braised shank is soft but dry, and is in a sweet mole that does not accentuate its flavor. The corn esquites has so much cheese you can't taste the sweetness of the corn, which doesn't have much to begin with not being very fresh. The infused margarita has too much sugar.
Honestly kinda disappointed based on eating lunch here on a Saturday. The menu was much smaller than what's listed on the website, apparently it's their wknd brunch/lunch menu. The huevos rancheros portion was sooo teeny tiny lol would have been appropriate for an appetizer maybe but the 2 smallest tortillas ever were disappointing when you pay $16 for them. The ceviche was good and so was the guac and those portion sizes were normal. Bummed bc I wanted to try this place due to the tlayudas mentioned on the website menu and I've been wanting to try some until I'm able to travel to Oaxaca. The tlayudas are just tortilla chips... so that was a disappointment. Also the service was good. But won't be back here next time we're in Denver, will try some of the many other authentic Mexican spots
We went for unlimited food brunch. The people were very friendly, but the food was terrible. Much of it lacked taste or it was over cooked to the point you could not cut through the shell. Also service was so slow we eventually had to leave to get to an event we had planned. Would not recommend or return. Very expensive for such bad food.
