After a captivating performance at the DCPA, we were looking for a place to unwind with a couple of cocktails and a bite to eat. The Nickel, conveniently located just steps from the theater, popped up on our "Denver Burger Map" list, and we decided to give it a try. We were not disappointed! We were able to grab seats at the bar. The service was friendly and attentive, and the cocktail menu was impressive. Of course, we had to try the namesake burger! We decided to split one, which was the perfect amount of food after a show. The burger was great and came with crispy fries that were equally satisfying. Overall, The Nickel was the perfect spot for a post-show indulgence. Delicious food, well-crafted cocktails, and a comfortable atmosphere made for a memorable experience. We will definitely be back!
I write this from my table at The Nickel, happily stuffed with incredible food. From the moment you walk in, the staff are kind and so friendly and helpful. I booked myself a solo dinner as a birthday gift to me (and a little time to myself from the hustle and bustle of motherhood), and the staff clearly read my reservation notes. I was greeted with a complementary glass of Prosecco, warm service, and my table waiting! The beet salad and crispy chicken confit are sensational, lick-the-plate-clean caliber food. I was just surprised with a complementary brownie with ice cream as an additional birthday treat, and I’m absolutely blown away by the level of service. The food is worth the prices, and the service truly makes this a wonderful experience. If I could give more stars, I would!! Special shoutout to the food and beverage manager, Saleem, for his impeccable service and warmth!
Helpful hint: make a reservation here! I did not know that ahead of time, & they did not have tables available, BUT thankfully they had seats open at the bar for us the evening we went. The Nickel is super close to the Denver Center for Performing Arts, so it's great for a pre-show drink & meal. The food was delicious & the drinks were so yummy! Shout out to our awesome bartender, I wish I could remember her name!
If you’re looking for a restaurant that can take any dish and make it the best version you’ve eaten, look no further. I came in for the 2023 restaurant week menu, which is highlighted in the photos. The balance of flavors, while allowing each dish to shine individually, was executed flawlessly. The raviolo made my mouth water more with every bite, and the beet salad presented so playfully I couldn’t help but smile when it was set in front of me. The duck was rich and juicy, and I wish I could have taken home a bucket of the turnip purée. I’m usually skeptical about seafood in landlocked states, but the scallops were fresh and tender. You can never go wrong with a chocolate espresso tart, and my tastebuds were buzzing the moment the kumquat crème brûlée hit my tongue! The wine pairing complimented the dishes perfectly. If you don’t get a chance to come in this week, I could write pages on their other menus. A dish as simple as their Steel Cut Oats is something I crave regularly. On top of the incredible items created by their culinary team, the front of house staff is affable and attentive. The atmosphere is calm, while never feeling the service is slow. It is the perfect spot for anything from a morning business meeting to a special anniversary dinner. I can’t wait to come back in!
I ate here several times over my two week stay and it was really and consistent. Staff are super friendly and attentive. Food is super yummy and nothing was too much of an issue to ask for. I’d had the cod one night and asked if I could have some additional scallops and that was easily done (a reasonable extra fee). Last night was my final night here and I chose from the Denver Restaurant week menu. Man it was great! Highly recommended place, the atmosphere is awesome too and chick interior.
We had the best time. Our bartender was attentive and fun. When we first went in it was quiet and a beautiful set up. We came back later that evening and it was a hopping place. The bartender was great making sure all were taken care of. They have a great wine list, crafty cocktails, and the cannolis had surprisingly different and fantastic taste. The lemon and blueberry took the dessert to a whole new level. Stop by this place
This place is amazing. The service, ambiance, and food all we're amazing. We had the butter board, caprese salad, lamb, and creme brulee. Server was incredibly knowledgeable and gave excellent recommendations. They made an excellent vodka martini with blue cheese stuffed olives even though it wasn't on the menu. Will absolutely be coming back.
Why be fickle? Try yourself some Nickel! For our anniversary, Bob and I tried The Nickel, which is the restaurant attached to the downtown Hotel Teatro. (14th and Arapahoe) Currently rated #193 out of the 2489 restaurants in Denver on TripAdvisor. It was the Friday evening after Valentine's Day, but it wasn't too busy. We also had a reservation through Open Table. Our table was in the corner of the restaurant, which gave us a great panoramic view of the rest of the restaurant and the kitchen. The service was great! There were a lot of people that checked in on us, and made sure we had what we needed. It was almost comical, because we never knew who was going to approach our table next. Jokingly Bob asked if random actors were just going to walk in off the street...ask us if we needed anything... and then walk out back to the street. Haha. They offer an interesting sushi-style charcuterie menu, where you can order different meats and cheeses and the amounts of each for your build-your-own charcuterie platter. We settled on the parma cotto for our meat, and a Nord Hollander for the cheese. The cheese was excellent, and had large natural salt crystals. Bob loved the ham, but I also ordered the wagyu beef carpaccio. It was amazing! It had dollops of egg yolk and fried capers. Before our entrees, we shared the brussel sprouts. They were prepared with a jalapeno vinaigrette, pickled shallots, and candied whole peanuts. The hearty crunch and taste of the peanuts complemented the brussel sprouts very nicely. For our entrees, we each selected one of their signature plates. I chose the twenty-four-hour braised Buckner Farms lamb shoulder, and Bob got the short ribs, with chimichurri and sauce royale. Both were divine! I was a little nervous that my lamb would be overcooked, but it was super tender and juicy. It was prepared with carrot and potato foam. I tried some of Bob's short ribs, and they were amazing! Overall a great experience and a romantic atmosphere for our anniversary dinner.
We really enjoyed getting a drink and a charcuterie platter here! We felt as if we were somewhere else, it reminded of us of our time overseas. The bartender was amazing, even helped my husband find one of his new favorite drinks! It truly was a great experience! We will certainly be stopping back in!
Excellent choice for dinner before a play! They hustle and get you out in time for curtain. On top of the convinces, the food is excellent and the drinks are top notch. Don’t skip a made to order charcuterie board.
Great quiet breakfast for the family. Lattes were exceptional. Breakfast burritos are made with a great salsa that adds the perfect heat. Silver dollar pancakes are more than enough to feed a hungry kiddo.
Went on the day they were having a Valentine's Courses meal and it was delicious. This was a Kobe Raised Steak on top of Goat Cheese Mashed potatoes with a side of grilled asparagus. Service was awesome as well as the other courses that came out. Bomb.
Thanks Morgan for a great evening. Best half chicken I’ve ever had and the mashed potatoes and carrot side were tremendous. Negroni to start didn’t hurt. Exceptional dining experience.
One good reason: the Pecan Bourbon French toast casserole. Try this! You'll see what I mean!
The Nickel. Inside Hotel Teatro . DENVER COLORADO. Excellent restaurant top-of-the-line staff and hosts. I will highly recommend to any one traveling around Denver come up to stop in. Bilingual
Nice historic hotel restaurant/bar. Wonderful service. We only had a desert snack and drink.
We thoroughly enjoyed stopping by the bar and drinking a glass of champagne before an event we were attending. The bartender was quite attentive and kind. The following morning we joined them for breakfast. My husband and I both had the same eggs over easy, bacon, toast and of course coffee....it was delicious and the service was terrific. Be sure to give this place a try!
We hosted a group event at Nickel. The staff were all very friendly and our server Saad did an excellent job at accommodating all of our needs to ensure things ran smoothly.
Mason, our server, was amazing and super attentive, always around to refill the water and checking in on us. He was kind and funny! Also the food was amazing, would 100% come again soon if I lived here but if im ever in the area again (im visiting) then I will be sure to visit.
Cool restaurant/bar nestled inside the Teatro Hotel. Unique seating arrangement either a large couch bordering the walls. Individual tables located on floor center. We had a late breakfast which was delicious. We loved the oversized coffee mugs. Not as busy as we expected it to be. Our server Hadley went out of her way to ensure that our dining experience was pleasant.
The best beet salad ever. Thanks to Olivia, service was excellent. Drinks from the bar on point. We ordered all three desserts; the lemon vanilla creme brûlée, blueberry cheesecake cannoli, and chocolate chip brownie with vanilla ice cream, all divine.
Amazing food, amazing drinks, amazing service and love the atmosphere! Saad and the manage Salim are so attentive and pleasant to be served by, I recognize this restaurant for all locals and out if towners to come enjoy when in Denver!!
I ordered the vegetarian plate and it was absolutely divine. I don't know how they did it, but the mash was as light as foam but the flavor packed a punch and the vegetables were cooked to perfection. Morgan, my server, was so friendly and attentive, and I couldn't have asked for a better evening out! They also managed all this when I was on a time crunch to go see a show.
Loved the atmosphere. Cozy and quiet, even when full and busy. Great food! The Nickel salad was one the best I’ve ever had. And the service was excellent. They sped up our order when they knew we had theater tickets.
No better place for a pre-theater dinner and drinks! We had less than an hour before the show and they rushed the food out for us. Every dish and both cocktails were DELICIOUS. Such a cute atmosphere too. Did not disappoint!
Thanks to Ethan and the great Chefs. Spécial experience Season 3 A Beautifully Orchestrated Culinary Performance at The Nickel The 10 x 10 Season 3 menu at The Nickel was an absolute delight , give acts of creativity, balance, and flavor that came together like a symphony. Act 1 opened with Beets and Brassica, a vibrant and refreshing duo. The shaved orange and gougères paired perfectly with the earthy beets, while the chive dressing on the Brassica brought a bright, herbaceous lift — a stunning start that woke up the palate. Act 2 was pure comfort. The Squash Soup — with pumpkin, apple, brown butter nuts, and herbs — felt like autumn in a bowl: rich, velvety, and subtly sweet. The Polenta with orange polenta gnudi and shaved truffle added a luxurious, aromatic touch that was impossible to forget. Act 3 delivered harmony and surprise. The Bass was cooked to perfection, balanced with potato, kale, and crème fraîche — creamy, crisp, and deeply satisfying. Then came the Poached Egg, with vinegar and shaved pork — delicate yet indulgent, a clever contrast of textures and flavors. Act 4 brought the heartiest satisfaction. The Chicken dish, paired with onion bread pudding, root vegetables, and mustard greens, was warm, comforting, and deeply flavorful. The Yam tartlet with quince added a savory-sweet accent that tied it all together beautifully. Act 5 was a sweet finale — the Bourbon Almond Cake with apple butter, vanilla ice cream, and caramel was divine. Every bite felt nostalgic yet elevated. The Mignardise — macaron, chocolate truffle, peanut butter chocolate, and brittle — was the perfect curtain call, leaving a lasting impression of craftsmanship and care. Overall, The Nickel’s tasting menu is thoughtful, seasonal, and beautifully executed. Each act tells a story — and together, they make for a truly memorable dining experience.
We had a fabulous stay at Teatro and a fantastic breakfast at The Nickel. Our server Saad was polite and attentive. Mason initially sat us and told me Happy Birthday! Overall, I would recommend this spot. Thanks!
I went to The Nickel for the first time last night prior to attending the symphony and was blown away with my experience. Laura was such an attentive bartender despite having a completely full bar. She gave us an incredible run down of the menu and recommended a dish that’s now one of my all time favorite bites (steak tartare toast- do not walk, run!) The Nickel has an amazing ambience and Laura’s great service and attention to detail was the cherry on top. I already can’t wait to come back.
We had an excellent experience for Mother’s Day brunch. From start to finish, everything was perfect. Our server, Sadd, was incredibly attentive, friendly, and made sure we had everything we needed to enjoy the occasion. The food and drinks were absolutely delicious. I had the Denver omelette, which was not only large but also packed with flavor one of the best I’ve had! The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, perfect for a family gathering. I highly recommend this place for a relaxing and satisfying family brunch. We’ll definitely be coming back!
A few weeks ago on a Friday night our principal servicer - who may have been the bartender - was outstanding. The Nickel burger, the Nickel salad and the beet salad were all excellent.
The food was so good! What will bring me back is the service we received! Saad E. was our server & his personality, conversation & attention were beyond exceptional!! He was wonderful & made our Monday morning brunch after a Sunday night concert very memorable! To top it off- his product knowledge & description of the dishes helped us make our choices! Which we were both very pleased with what we ordered!! Definitely will visit when we are back in Denver!
Saad was our bartender/server and he was great! Attentive, warm & makes a great espresso martini.
Denver. We stayed at the hotel where this restaurant was located at and it did have good reviews so it was a no brainer to eat breakfast here. I'm sure glad we did since I enjoyed my Breakfast Burrito and hubby liked his Peanut Butter Oats. If you're staying at the hotel, definitely try!
Upscale dining and prices. Quality was fantastic. Portions were small but good for sharing. The table shared the beet carpaccio, charcuterie board, rhubarb gazpacho, crab cakes, sweet potato, and raspberry tart for dessert.
Kudos to this boutique hotel restaurant for being able to find a reservation for Christmas dinner for a business traveler. This would have been a five star review except for a few missteps. The decor seems a bit dilapidated with dust accumulation and some parts obviously showing their age. My cocktail, the Thyme after Time, was rather too sweet instead of savory as I expected from the description. The menu was pris fixé. The opening course of French Onion soup was very good, but a bit heavy on salt. I couldn't taste the bourbon in the glaze on the ham, which was dry and overcooked. The green beans had not been properly cleaned with runners still attached to the end, as well as being over cooked and grayish. The Brussels sprouts (my favorite vegetable) had a nice char and prayed nicely with the plump tart cranberries, but they weren't properly cleaned with tough outer leaves and the woody stalk butt left on. The best part of the meal was the apple and blueberry tart and soft ginger cookies for dessert. Service was friendly and attentive.
Excellent food and generous portions. We ordered a lot of different items but not favorites were: Brussels Spouts Sweet Potato (picture attached) We also got dessert which was pretty good as well. I'm only giving 4 stars though because of the steak. The menu item says chef's choice and unfortunately, my steak was 1/3 grizzle so I was pretty disappointed. It came out slightly cold too (sat at the pass too long).
Service, service, service. Their staff is incredible top to bottom. The food is solid. Great for meetings and solo diners.
My friends and I went to Nickel for dinner before a show. For a Friday night, they were steady but not packed. It was a great place to enjoy a leisurely meal. The cocktails were delicious. Between the four of us we had The Mean Joe Green, Time and Thyme Again and the Southern Applachian. For appetizers, we had the Cucumber Trout Mousse and the Watermelon Gazpacho. The gazpacho was spicy but delicious. For dinner I had ordered off the appetizer menu, selecting the cornbread and corn and potato pierogies with truffle cream sauce. Perfect dinner size. My friends went the braised short ribs, the sablefish with polenta and the lamb with spaetzle. All were yummy. The sauce on the polenta, a honey maple, could be off putting to some. The surprise of the night was the poblano sweet potato. It is a large poblano stuffed with a sqeet potato puree. It is covered in charcoal dust and flash fried. The heat of the pepper mixed with the creaminess of the puree was heavenly. Definitely worth a try. For dessert, we enjoyed the peanut buttet macarons. Our server, Jamison, was extremely knowledgeable about every dish on the menu. The manager was also very pleasant, stepping in to clear dishes and answer questions when Jamison was with another table. For downtown Denver, the prices were fair. The atmosphere, the staff, and the quality make The Nickel a must stop.
Delicious and unique dishes. Drinks were absolutely amazing. Best old fashioned I have had in awhile. Cozy and quaint. A little on the pricier side and portions are a little small. Overall a great environment and delicious food.
The serving size is smaller than most restaurants, but PERFECTION!! Love the history and the atmosphere. One of my favorite dinner spots when visiting Denver.
Food was great, and very cool to be in such a historic building! The portions are pretty small (except for the burger) so be prepared if you're going with folks who have bigger appetites. Food plating is lovely and flavors are unique and truly very, very good. Cocktails and wine were also great. Service was kind of slow, from taking our orders to food arriving. We got there at 5:15pm and wanted to leave by 6:45 so we could get to our show at DCPA... but we were pretty rushed at the end and the server seemed surprised and flustered when we asked if we could get finished up within 10 minutes. Everyone was very nice I want to be clear, it was just sort of stressful at the end. You'd expect having appetizers and mains would be totally fine in an hour and a half. Though the building itself is amazing, there's something just a little lacking in the decor/ambiance restaurant itself. Even taking the stairs down to the bathrooms is almost more beautiful and historic feeling than the restaurant itself! You're definitely sitting in a piece of history... it just doesn't really feel that way. Still is nice, though! Recommend reserving a table in advance.
Great location if you are going to see a show at Buell! I ordered a Monte Cristo and it was just alright. I’m not surprised that they decided to take it off their brunch menu. Our waiter was very attentive and accommodating, and the restaurant was spacious. We just wished that the food was a bit better.
The Nickel is situated in the lobby of the Teatro Hotel. Had breakfast food is ok a bit on the expensive side for what it is. Check opening hours as it was frequently closed on several occasions I went to eat there.
The atmosphere and service were relaxed and agreeable. We came on a Friday night and there was hardly anyone there, so it was nice and comfortably quiet. We enjoyed the ambience. The only reason I give this restaurant an average star-rating is because the food was not up to the level of quality I'd expect from a 4-star restaurant. It tasted good, but not a place I would go out of my way to try again.
I’ve been warming up at The Nickel before Buell shows for years, and every visit feels like a new production. The house is lovely—Hotel Teatro plays the grand old theater beautifully—and the location gets a standing ovation before the first line is spoken. The performance, however, varies by night. Some services are perfectly blocked: cues hit, lines crisp, everyone in sync like a tight ensemble. Other nights, it’s more improv than rehearsal—glimpses of talent, missed marks, a stage manager waving from the wings. My latest visit? A confident matinee. Punctual entrances, clean transitions, no scenery chewed. Encouraging. Then the new menu took the stage. It’s a smaller cast—let’s call it “intimate”—and the script aims for sleek. On the plate, though, it plays a bit cautious, like a director cutting monologues moments before opening. A few dishes still step into the spotlight and belt, but the chorus doesn’t quite fill the room. A note from the Cocktail Desk: skip the Bee’s Knees. In a proper production, it should glow a pale matinee gold—honey and lemon in close harmony, the gin carrying melody. Mine arrived looking like an oil spill auditioning for a tragic role. The nose read “science lab,” the balance missed its entrance, and the gin wandered offstage. That’s an understudy you don’t send on. Am I tough? Sure—but only because the staging is so right. The room has presence, the pre-theater crowd provides energy, and when the kitchen lands a number, you remember why you bought tickets here in the first place. Menu overhauls often mean a company in rehearsal: trimming, tightening, finding the light. I’m rooting for their second act. Until the show settles, treat The Nickel like a solid prelude: arrive early, enjoy the set, order with intent, and let the ambiance carry the overture. Save your cocktail solo for another bar, and expect a few ad-libs along the way. With this venue and this audience, greatness is in the script—they just need a sharper director’s cut. Curtain held for improvements.
Unfortunately terrible service on a Saturday plus $9 for a slice of toast cut in half
The shakshuka was maybe the worst I've ever had, just two over cooked poached eggs placed in a dish of some sort of non-descript, non-delicious, thick, overly tart puree. The eggs benny were a little bit better, same over cooked poached eggs served on a bed of canned chopped up green chilis, but the hollandaise was very good. It said it came with bacon, yes, 3/4 of one nearly burnt strip placed sadly on top. Oh brother! My daughter and I went half and half on our meals, so I was able to review both meals.
Do not get this place confused, THIS IS HOTEL FOOD!!!!! Fantastic bar, nice scenery, but a real let down for the actual meal.... The salad was the best part of the meal sadly.... And not the asparagus one, it was like slime and tasteless. It was presented well, just no flavor.....
Came here 10 yrs ago, a different restaurant, and had a great experience. Staying at Hotel Teatro and wanted to stay here and enjoy a great dinner. Ordered the Ribeye, $48, cooked medium and can out nearly raw. Returned it and came back (2nd pic) raw again. They did comp meal and my 2 drinks. Brussel sprout app was great, drinks were great, and waitress was great.
Great service. Our waiter was attentive, helpful and personable. But our food was TERRIBLE. The steak frites was overcharred and tasteless. The mushroom risotto was beyond bad. It was pastey and gummy. The salmon too was overcharred and dry. All in all, our dinner was a big disappointment.
