Very cute wine bar with amazing food. Albeit, no green vegetables today— every bite we had was exceptional. The wine is also very tasty with natural options. The restaurant itself is cozy and comforting. The staff is also very lovely.
Great atmosphere - soft lighting, gentle music, and a warm, inviting ambiance. The food was excellent, particularly the aubergine. The service was impeccable. Maria was knowledgeable, attentive, and incredibly friendly. She ensured our evening was truly enjoyable. Perfect for a romantic dinner or a fun night out with friends.
Dined at Ely on Friday night during a trip to Dublin. All the staff members were super friendly, interiors and ambience fabulous(music playlist was right up our street), food and wine even better. Our server was kind enough to tell us we didn’t need a particular extra side as one portion was enough, he was right. Our food was incredible, we really enjoyed it and would absolutely come again.
We had a large family meal there after a special occasion in there semi private room. The staff, especially Carol, were extremely flexible and made sure the evening was exactly as we wanted it. The food and wine was delicious and the staff were very attentive throughout the night. Would highly recommend.
I held my birthday party in the downstairs section of Ely and it couldn’t have been better. The staff were so attentive and were making sure we were okay. The food was amazing - everyone was so impressed. In the lead up to the party, Carol was so helpful and responding rapidly to any concerns I had. We will be back for sure!
Myself and my girlfriend had an amazing food and wine secret pairing. Our server gave us in depth descriptions of each dish and the wine that came with them. The food was very flavoursome and beautifully presented. We particularly loved the extremely tender beef. Servers were very attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. Would highly recommend and cannot wait to return!
I saw the summer special for fish and chips and a glass of cava for €26 and decided to try it. The service from when we got there was great. We placed our order and the food was out in under 10 minutes. 2 cods were on the plate but I’d say the star of the dish was the tartar sauce never had anything like it and the fish was super crispy. 10/10 would recommend and the cava pairing worked really well!
We had our wedding lunch in their beautiful Georgian dining room on Ely Place recently and had an amazing time. The organisation and communication from the team before the event was so easy and they couldn't have done enough for us, helping with flowers and storing the cake. All of our guests were raving about the food and it was so lovely to have our own space. Couldn't recommend it highly enough for a special occasion.
We had the bites and flights menu and it was fantastic, great portions, excellent presentation, friendly service and most importantly fantastic wines. Will be back!
Nice hidden place between Merrion square and St Stephens Green. Good food and wine, nice staff, very pleasant atmosphere. We'll come back!
Went with 5 friends, food was great and staff was very helpful in suggesting the specials and how many sides will be required for the table. Amazing service and great ambiance, never fails to impress.
Service is nice, food is delicious, and it's a right place to meet up with friends and have a conversation. It's not too loud even on Friday night. We had Haloomy cheese for starter, it comes with vegetables and croutons, quiet big, I think it one of the biggest starters I ve seen, as for prawns it's only 4 of them. Steak and cod were lovely also. Highly recommend
Good selection of wine and suitable meals
One truly amazing place to enjoy. Amazing staff and food. Very good expertise on wines and soo accomodating staff. Andreas thanks a lot for everything you are a amazing.
Food was nice, a bit oily, but tasty. Service is good, and it's a perfect place to meet up with friends and talk as it was not loud even though it is Friday night.
We had our small wedding here and couldn’t have asked for a better experience! The staff were absolutely incredible—everything was set up exactly as described, and communication in the lead-up to the day was smooth and stress-free. On the night, the team was so attentive and friendly, making us and our guests feel truly looked after. The food and wine were also delicious!
Such a gem of a place, the wine and food is delicious and the ambience of the place really creates such a warm and inviting experience!
I had the fish & chips special, which was delicious, along with a glass of cava. The two went great together. Also tried a mango / passion fruit tart, which was amazing! The place is cozy and the service is great. Had a lovely time!
Had dinner here last Saturday with some friends and we had such a good time! A super friendly lady on the ground floor took care of us. Service was great and the food was delicious. Definitely recommending this place and we’ll be back for sure!
Beautiful food and lovely calm atmosphere. Staff so pleasant and helpful one of my family group of four found it difficult to find parking in Maynooth and although we didn't order our lunch until after 3pm as a result they were so understanding and didn't rush us. We had a super happy catch-up thank you so much and I would definitely recommend.
I’m reviewing as a restaurant not as a wine bar, I ate a 5.30PM on a Saturday. The location is excellent and the building and interiors are really nicely done. Very comfortable at the early hour but gets a bit louder as the evening progresses. Waitress was super helpful and pleasant perhaps tad over chatty but in a nice way. Service is superb and presentation of dishes is excellent. Portions are not large which suited us. We had salad then Blackened Cod and Hand Steak both excellent followed by two delicious deserts. Food was really excellent but menus are short I assume the selection is rotated. Really good but will we go back, have see a menu change as we picked the best dishes.
We had a really lovely time here last night for our 6 year anniversary. Relaxed, soficitcated atmosphere. Great service. Food and wine were very nice. Only feedback - burger was a little difficult to eat. It kept coming apart as I bit into it so I ate it with a knife and fork. It was delicious though!
I celebrated my 40th birthday in the private dining room upstairs. It was absolutely perfect for an intimate party, with wonderful service, great food and beautiful wines. The cocktails were delicious too. I would highly recommend Ely for a special occasion.
We recently held a Diamond wedding celebration at Ely. Carol was our contact. Everything was first class.
Great wine selection, also did a good dirty martini. Food was also fantastic, we shared a starter and had a main each. Really good value
Always a good option. Whether it's a date night or a group night, the food and wine (plenty of options by the glass) will please most discerning guests. Menu is considered, so options are less, which makes decisions easier and outcomes better! Guided by the sommelier, our personalised tasting pairing added to the evening. Cheese board - for one, could easily have been shared. Central location and intimate chic surroundings.
A Reliable Favourite with One Sweet Misstep This was our third visit to Ely Wine Bar, and it continues to deliver a simple yet refined ambience. The setting feels relaxed and intimate, with soft background music that allows for easy conversation. Service is consistently friendly and attentive, striking that perfect balance between professional and warm. The wine selection by the glass is particularly strong, including a well-chosen dessert wine that was elegant and not overly sweet or cloying — a thoughtful touch. We shared the cheese bread and mushroom starters, both flavourful and well executed. For mains, I chose the cauliflower steak, which was beautifully balanced and satisfying, while my fiancé had the beef bavette, cooked perfectly and full of flavour. Overall, the food was delicious and thoughtfully prepared. The only slight disappointment was the cheesecake for dessert, which felt somewhat bland and a bit doughy in texture. Aside from that, Ely remains a dependable choice for great wine, good food, and a relaxed, polished atmosphere
Lovely place! We came for dinner with friends. Upstairs it has more of a formal vibe and downstairs more of an intimate atmosphere (I think would be very nice for a date) we had sharing board with Irish ham and cheese, perfect for sharing (we were 4). I had rib eye steak, it was okay, I bit too well done and so a bit chewy and not rare as I requested. The lamb was very very good and the burger was nice too . Must try their polenta chips! Great wine selection. Great atmosphere and staff is very nice and knowledgeable.
Cosy and lovely place, the volume of music was perfect (not loud) to chat with friends - and the playlist was amazing. Staff were attentive, food was brilliant and authentic, but the chocolate mousse melted my heart. Just go for it! Toilets were cleaned. We booked in advance for a Tuesday evening, so there was plenty of tables available.
Food was decent but it was a little quiet so the atmosphere wasn’t great. Good service.
Food is lovely, flavours and aesthetics on point. Portions are poor as opposed to price point. Service was decent but they kept missing parts of our order from start to finish. Forgot about the drinks, then side and lost our dessert order completely. The experience could have been better. Great wine selection too.
We arrived on time and were shown to a table on the lower floor. The first waitress welcomed us and began explaining the menu, but she seemed to be in a big hurry and we couldn’t really understand what she was saying. When it was time to order, we asked another waitress for help. I asked for information about one of the boards, but she didn’t seem to know what I was talking about. She then showed us two options: one with only cheeses and one with cured meats and cheeses. We chose the latter and ordered a bottle of wine. When the board arrived, the waiter asked whether we wanted one or two plates, as if we were supposed to eat separately or share. A rather strange question — who doesn’t share a board? The board was very disappointing: honey in the center, two thin slices of different cheeses, two thin slices of jamón, six grapes, and four slices of spicy salami. All of this for €15 — absolutely ridiculous. As a main course, I ordered the Black Angus bavette. The meat itself was excellent, but it was completely covered with a green, spicy sauce that overwhelmed the flavor. I had to scrape it off with my knife and set it aside. For dessert, we ordered the pumpkin cheesecake. It arrived burnt, both on top and on the bottom. €9 for a small, burnt cheesecake — once again, absolutely ridiculous.
Very poor experience. Food took about 1 hour to arrive. When it did arrive, it was very average. One of the dishes was supposed to come with coconut rice. The coconut rice didn’t arrive and we were told that the kitchen ran out of rice. Total shamble of a set up to be honest. Won’t go back. The waitress was very nice and did her best.
Went last night. Completely overrated. Two steaks cooked to order but bland in flavour. Chimichurri was flavourless, and spread all over the steak, which just led to a greasy piece of meat. €39 for one steak and three small onion rings (each slightly bigger than the size of a 2 euro coin), extra for the chips bringing it to 45.50. Way too expensive for what it was. Best thing was the melted cheese snack. Atmosphere-wise it doesn't know what it wants to be. Four-to-the-floor music one minute, something completely different the next. If you have to go, stick to the wine
