We visited for a drink and ended up her all night. The cocktails and beers were flowing nicely! The drinks were slightly pricey but delicious, the table service worked well and we enjoyed the love music too. We managed to get sat at the fire pit table which was brilliant as we were so cold being southerners 😂. Great little place, will be back once the hangover goes away!
Fantastic place to visit in Edinburgh! We had a roof terrace table with spectacular views of the castle, Staff were excellent and attentive, even offered to take pics with the castle behind us before we sat down for a delicious meal of fish and chips and chicken Caesar salad. Loved the atmosphere in the bar on ground floor where the staff worked hard to accommodate groups arriving early for bookings, nothin seemed too much trouble for them! Would definitely recommend for a relaxed dinner on the terrace or for hens and stags on the different levels as there were a few there having the best time! Loved the Photo Booth in the ladies and overall vibe, will be back for sure!!
I celebrated my birthday at Cold Town House rooftop last week, and it turned into one of the most memorable evenings of my life. Caitlyn, who served me, was so kind and welcoming, and she recommended a great vegetarian pizza and drink. When I mentioned it was my birthday, she and Lauren (the manager) went above and beyond — they surprised me with a beautifully decorated brownie presented like a birthday cake. The biggest surprise came when I asked for the bill and was told that the meal was complimentary for my birthday, and I only needed to pay the service charge. Their kindness, generosity, and genuine hospitality truly touched me and made my solo trip feel so special. Thank you Caitlyn and Lauren for making my birthday unforgettable — Cold Town House will always be a place I’ll recommend with a smile.
We had an awesome dinner at Cold Town House—such a fun and lively spot! There was live music playing on the first floor, which gave the whole place a great vibe. We sat on the second floor where the pizzas are made, and the view from there was a nice bonus. Their focus on craft beer and cocktails really stands out. I had the Strawberry & Pink Pepper Mojito—refreshing with a little kick—while my wife enjoyed the Kiwi + Guava Margarita, which was equally delicious. We started with the beef brisket loaded fries (so good!) and then I had the steak & peppercorn skewer, while my wife went with the chicken Caesar salad. Everything was flavorful and satisfying. Definitely a great spot for good food, drinks, and a lively atmosphere in Edinburgh!
What a place. Huge shout-out to Ryan, Lara, Matt, Meeks and Pe for looking after us. The music was loud but in a good way and added to the atmosphere, the food was great, and the drinks were spot on. I especially loved the red ale, it was really nice.
Absolutely loved this place! We are from Birmingham and was staying with friends over the weekend in Scotland. We had a day in Edinburgh and my friend had booked this place as it is dog friendly. Service excellent, food amazing and a great atmosphere. We were a group of 8 (4 adults and 4 children) We ordered: Frickles Haggis bon bons Pizza x 3 Corn dogs Chips Loaded fries (Buffalo chicken) Burger and fries Kids pasta Food was delicious! The roof top bar had an amazing view. Loved the cold town lager too. Overall, we loved it and would definitely return next time we are in Edinburgh.
We didn’t eat here, but the bartenders and everyone who stepped behind the bar were exceptional! We all shared stories and laughs as they did their work. It was the first bar we entered in Scotland and it really set high expectations for all of the others. Great ambiance. (Hopefully, the hostess has much better days than she did when we were there.)
The cold town house exceeded expectations for our stay. We decided to go here on the spur of the moment and ended up reserving a table on Wednesday quiz night. We had originally booked the night before but ended up switching which was very easy to do. The staff were lovely and the food was fab. We had so many inventive and cool cocktails and had a blast at the quiz. We even ended up coming back the following day for lunch as we had such a great time. The whole experience was great value for money. We sat out in the terrace for our lunch and were served by Phoebe who had taken our original booking and remembered us! She is a great waitress and really hyped the place up before we booked! The staff all seemed really enthusiastic about the place and really made our dinner and lunch experience. We would highly recommend the mocktails and the burgers ! They are to die for ! Lots of love from the Irish girlies xx
Great eatery! We stopped for late lunch/early dinner. The food service was great. My wife order the chicken kabob (Drunk Chicken) and I ordered the Buffalo chicken burger. Both were really good. We ate inside on a lovely day to get away from the smokers eating outside. The inside of the restaurant is interesting with a number of things to keep you entertained. The restaurant was clean with a very friendly staff. Prices were also very reasonable, less than others in the Grassmarket.
We had an absolute blast as a table of 9 with 5 kids. Jordan on the bar was super sweet and gave the girls some chocolate. He also understood the need for spice on the pizza! The flights of beer for 9 quid were great value, and it being home brewed is a great plus. All the food was excellent and as you cam see their stone base pizza oven was a highlight. So welcoming and accomodating on our visit and I could not reccomend them more highly. Great food, ale and excellent service that is a rare treat.
My wife and I shared the Sunday roast and gravy fondue for 2. It was amazing and could have easily fed more than 2. Everything was cooked to perfection and the waitress was very polite and helpful. We will definitely be going back the next time we’re in Edinburgh!
Well here I am back in the Grassmarket, Edinburgh where once upon a time I went to lectures across the road. Now a boutique hotel. No comment. I love the beer that C*ld Town make and whilst it’s true that it can be perennially weak ABV-wise in the UK, this brewery (also made in an off-site location), makes some good stuff on rotation. I’ll come back to try their broader range at some point. Good location. Multiple level venue. Fantastic location. Didn’t have the food unfortunately which is a shame cos menu looked good. Thanks to C*ld Town and Jono and Ben and Rory who gave the service rating 5*
Great bar really funky decor and a nice vibe, great music and the food was great. Would definitely recommend a visit
Great pub at the centre of edi (and arguably with the best view)!! Loads of seating options inside and outside and a great walking distance from anywhere in the city centre. Very friendly staff despite the crowds during summer. Lovely place to get pics and come with friends - came twice with a small group and a larger group with both catered to very well. (Also the truffle parm fries with a pint is a killer combo)
Rooftop bar is lovely but small. Recomend booking even just for a drink. Great service and view of the castle
Very beautiful rooftop view onto Edinburgh castle. Staff is friendly, food is very delicious. lots of beer options as well. Would definitely visit again.
We came for drinks and appetizers and ended up eating dinner here. Great food, great atmosphere and wonderful staff. Unfortunately the terrace is a reservation only area so we were unable to sit up there but we did go check it out. Amazing views. We had the cheese fries, pizza and artichoke dip. All great food!
Great food with a few Vegan options, had the Nae Bull Burger and the Meadows Pizza, both delicious. Views and vibes from the top floor are fantastic so will be eating from there next time. Burger was 15 quid Friendly service however a little slow but it was super busy. Managed to get a table for 2 on a sunny Sunday without reservation
Came here for the view, sat on the top floor. "Cold" house is correct, brrr! They did have heaters and blankets thankfully but even then it was definitely chilly - dress warm! The burger was okay and quite tasty.
Had some great food here on the rooftop terrace. The haggis pizza was delicious and the buffalo wings too. Didn’t have high hopes for the food but my expectations were surpassed. The view of the castle is great too. Would highly recommend
Beautiful location, amazing pizza, and great beer! I loved everything about my visit, highly recommend!
Can't fault this place. Came here with a big group for a work event and staff were really flexible with times and seating before and during our visit. Loved the pizza and beers and it was a great atmosphere. Live music later on was also enjoyed and was at a tolerable volume to still have a conversation. I also left something behind and staff kept it safe until I returned a few days later to pick it up.
This place is fab! I have to say, the customer service we received was outstanding from a lovely lad who couldn't do enough for us. We celebrated our wedding anniversary and we received complimentary prosecco on arrival. The burger and haggis loaded fries were cooked to perfection. Thank you for a lovely experience. We will certainly recommend to friends.
Our first visit to Cold Town House - we were not disappointed!! Absolutely amazing venue over different floors, staff so welcoming and friendly. We went up to the terrace (by lift) it was open with heating and fabulous views of the Castle and over Edinburgh. Would highly recommend and will return on our next Edinburgh holiday.
Came for the evening music, Roadrunner was great! Lots of classics, they had great voices and chemistry making it a great time. We went to the rooftop as well for the views and heaters as it was -1, staff was so helpful and incredibly friendly. Got us fan seats upstairs and in front of the performance.
Beyond impressed with how this establishment is run. When we came in with our 9-year-old and were told she couldn’t come in during a certain time, they explained the rules in a very polite and professional manner. We have also eaten here for lunch and found the customer service to be amazing. Will come back!
Great spot, had a nice view of the castle from the rooftop. Nitro xpa is excellent, smooth with a nice fruity after taste. Got one of their pizzas as well which were excellent, had the pork and fennel sausage good serving of meat.
Loved this place for a good hangout spot. Watched the Soccer game, Scotland vs. Denmark, it was fun and exilerating.... it was followed with a live musician with great songs. The good was great... loved the Pizza and fried pickles....I was not too crazy about the wine list, but I am strictly a wine drinker.... overall loved it!
Very nice location at Grassmarket. We got a table on the rooftop and really enjoyed the beautiful weather and terrace. The fish & chips were among the best we’ve had in Edinburgh – crispy and fresh. Most of the staff were friendly, though unfortunately our waitress came across as a bit snobbish. Overall still a good experience.
Honestly, just a great spot to sit and eat with a group. It's location is exceptional with a darling turret covered in climbing flowers and a view of the castle behind. It's very similar to most brew pubs in the US, but with more variety of food and drinks. We started with the baked mozzarella (which is not fried mozzarella sticks like in the US) and a good surprise. The sauce and cheese combo were very well done. A couple from our group had burgers, which were huge and messy in a good way, a few had fish and chips which had an enormous portion of fish, and I had the brat. 10/10 would order the brat again! Would definitely recommend this for a nice casual lunch and fun, modern vibes! We walked in right as they open but noticed many of the tables were reserved so highly recommend a reservation.
Loved the rooftop, but make sure you rug up before visiting! The staff offer blankets, gas heaters and heated lamps to make the experience as comfortable as possible, but it's still freezing even in April. The views of Edinburgh castle were pretty spectacular, and the food was pretty good. The sausage pizza was really tasty but the pork belly bites were cold. However, prices for food and drinks were reasonable and service was excellent, so we left feeling pretty satisfied.
So so to be honest could have been a lot better for the pizza And to be fair it was decent but not amazing . We did think it was pretty cool to have a crepe of the castle and not often can you do that while having a drink. I do think it might be a bit over rated amd it is very. Expensive to be honestly all on all I would defo go back but it is not like it would be my favourite place in Edinburgh to go to. If you have not been worth checking out amd seeing for your self . Enjoy
The atmosphere is fantastic here. There was a lovely bar with a fireplace in the middle to sit and eat and drink and in perfect view of the live performance. The app that you scan at the table makes ordering and paying so much easier!! The staff were so lovely and friendly, accomodating us even though all we wanted was drinks. The only downside was the long wait for drinks, and unfortunately the latte was very weak and didn't taste like it had much milk in it. That was the only downside because even the outside seating seemed so nice. Would love to try the food here next.
We've been here for a drink and maybe something to eat. We really wanted a dessert, but the waiter did not bring a menu even though we asked two times for it. Our feeling is that they prefer people on the terrace to just go for a drink and move on quickly :) (they could have said though) That being said: - the terrace is nice, with close view of the castel (if you are lucky enough to see with all the Aperol decor); - the service at the entrance was very kind and helpful! - service on the terrace should be improved. - the drinks are decent & bathrooms are clean.
Came in on a Tuesday evening without reservation and sat at the communal fire pit table. Ordered the Grassmarket pizza, triple mac and cheese and Cold Town lager. Service - lovely people. But I ordered food and drink at the same time and the drink didn't come out until after my food. Food - pizza would have been delicious, the goats cheese and chutney they used were so tasty. The chili oil was too much for me, but that's totally my fault, I could've easily asked to remove it on the online order. Learnt for next time! The crust was on the burnt end of the spectrum for me, but maybe other people's taste. The Mac and cheese came out tepid.. and was not very cheesy. Wasn't really in a sauce, but there was a patch that was more saucey than the rest which tasted the best. Drink - the house lager was ace 👍🏻
Gotta say not great! Was excited to come here for some light snacks and a casual dinner, and it was such a miss! The ambiance is great, good music, cute decor, but the rest is just underwhelming. We got the salted pretzel, but it was not salty. At all, no salt to be found!! And the cheese sauce was very gritty and flavorless, which is a bummer because beer cheese is not rocket science especially for a brewery type place. The corn ribs were dry and flavorless, and the sticky jack chicken bites were actually okay but needed some kind of dip to feel complete. We sat with dirty plates on the table and empty drinks for over 30 minutes while the wait staff walked by multiple times and glanced at our table and walked on by. We tried to use the QR code on the table to order more drinks and more food but the items we wanted were not on the menu online. Decided after near 40 minutes we’d to try to flag down a staff member but they were nowhere to be seen which is frustrating. When they finally came over they left the dirty plates that were now neatly stacked at the end of the table. The cocktails were too sugary and were filled halfway which is mental for a 12£ drink. Finished it in three SMALL sips. Taste was fine but overall would pick somewhere else if you’re a foodie. Can’t comment on the view because we were on the first floor but I’m sure it’s lovely based on photos.
The bar has a great atmosphere with stylish decor and really nice drinks — definitely a place that looks and feels inviting. Unfortunately, the food didn’t live up to the setting. The mac and cheese was very dry, the chicken wings were overly oily, and overall the dishes lacked flavor. On top of that, the service was quite poor, which made the experience disappointing. It’s a nice spot for drinks, but I wouldn’t recommend it for food based on this visit.
I wish I hadn't bothered to travel in all the way from Fife for this. My colleague had booked a table for our team to have an early Christmas dinner. We ordered pre-dinner drinks on the roof terrace, which arrived after about 20 minutes, just as our table downstairs became available. I probably had the most complex drink - fresh orange and lemonade. We had pre-ordered our meal, but waited a good 45 minutes. Like buses, you wait for ages and then two courses arrive at the same time! Starter and mains together? Really? Oh, and no cutlery to eat the food with. I got serious daggers from the waitress, as I was probably the third person from my table to ask for some. My Sticky Jack Chicken Bites were probably quite nice when they were hot, but they arrived cold. I ate them as soon as the cutlery had finally arrived, while my Fish & Chips got cold. The same waitress ignored my request for brown sauce, which I requested again when I was finally successful in attracting the attention of another waiter. 4 sachets of brown sauce were duly slammed down on the table by the waitress. I thankfully hadn't ordered a desert. They didn't arrive at all. My colleagues eventually gave up on them and we left. An automatic 10% service charge was applied to our bill. Hmmmm .... I should have complained at the time, but it was a rare opportunity for us to socialise and I didn't want to spoil the evening. I doubt though that our next night out will be to the Cold Town House. Update: I would like to commend Nikk Stevens for his commitment to investigating what went wrong during our visit to the Cold Town House. He went to a lot of trouble to ensure learning could be gained and also explored fully how to make up for our negative experience. My team and I have been impressed and are fully satisfied with the resolution. Thank you.
