The dinner which I had tonight was without a doubt one of the best I’ve ever had in my life. The calamari was the best I’ve ever had and the rest of the food was sensational. The waiting staff were an absolute credit to the place. Attentive, polite, welcoming and always accommodating to extra orders. This is a top place and if you are in Edinburgh it is a must visit.
Visited SEN for a birthday dinner and it did not disappoint. It is a small and cosy restaurant that is quite popular, so I would highly recommend to book in advance. The staff were very friendly and attentive. We had ordered a variety of dishes but a special mention for the salt & pepper squid with the special seasoning, delicious! They have a vegan menu too which was a bonus. The only downside was that we were not able to try any desserts cause we were so full but will definitely be back! Highly recommend this place.
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Excellent authentic Vietnamese food restaurant in Britain (yea! It also much better than many others Vietnamese restaurants in London!) Great food quality, great service and many food ingredients are come from Vietnam 🇻🇳! It is a good place to try if you want to taste a really Vietnam flavour not just like street food. A little higher price in Edinburgh but same price level like in London! Saigon Iced Coffee is gorgeous even if it still cold outside.
The food here exceeded my expectation. Even not 100% authentically Vietnamese, it was simply delicious. We had the salt and pepper squid as starter, liked the crispy coating and the squid was fresh. The vermicelli salad bowl was complimented by fried spring rolls and grilled pork, with the mouth-watering peanut sauce and Nuoc Cham dressing and the overall combination was great and flavourful. The duck curry was also nice, with tender meat complimented with taro, potato and lotus root in the right Southeast Asian curry sauce (which is not as thick as the Indian and Japanese ones). Friendly staff and the portions were generous as well.
We came here for lunch because my wife saw the great reviews. Please believe the reviews because this intimate restaurant is fabulous. It was the best meal I've had for a very long time. I was beginning to lose faith in eating out! I hope you also discover this delightful gem of a place, just across the lane from the famous Pear Tree pub. Stunning food, beautifully presented and served by truly wonderful staff. There are also lots of stunning options for vegans. We are going back soon for a proper evening meal. We cannot wait. Eating out is something to enjoy once again!! Thank you, everyone at SEN!
Lovely visit, quite a small intimate restaurant only about 6 tables inside, but absolutely amazing service and the food is to die for. We shared a selection of starters, fishcakes, spring rolls a vegan option, so happy we shared everything was amazing. Also had the duck curry as a main a must try, melts away and cooked to perfection 😍
This place was recommended by a colleague of mine and the food was really exceptional! I didn't have the chance to visit, so I can't comment on the atmosphere as we ordered takeaway. We ordered through UberEats the Saigon Prawn Summer Rolls, Stir-Fry Chicken Pho, and a dessert called Che. The summer rolls had an interesting texture, and the peanut sause was amazing. The stir-fry was full of flavour! This was the first time I tried dessert Che, and I was pleasantly surprised. I really enjoyed it. I will visit the restaurant the next time I'm back in Edinburgh.
The restaurant isn’t very large, but the atmosphere is pleasant with simple and tasteful décor. Each small table even has a little bundle of fresh flowers. The pho we ordered has a very fresh, clean broth that’s flavorful without being oily, and the thinly sliced beef inside is tender and nicely seasoned. It also comes with a small fried dough stick, which you can dip in sauce or enjoy directly with the broth. The fried squid is coated in a very crisp batter, and we also ordered a tofu dish on a whim—the sauce was on the sweeter side, which was a bit unexpected. There is also a 10% service charge.
We had a wonderful meal last night in Sen. The food was fresh flavourful and delicious. The pork belly dish was rich with fresh vegetables balanced with the tender pork. The beef Pho was perfectly spiced and hearty. The butterflied prawns were zesty and fresh and the textures in the jerked beef were a triumph. The staff were excellent, attentive but not oppressive. We wanted for nothing.
This was one of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to. Food and service were excellent. The restaurant is quite small, so booking in advance is recommended. Unfortunately, I forgot to take any pictures, but I was too busy enjoying my food. I had summer rolls and the lemongrass chicken and these dishes were made in heaven. Thank you for this experience.
I flew from Australia to celebrate my brother’s birthday. When I learned that we were going to a Vietnamese restaurant I rolled my eyes. When we walked into this restaurant my eyes popped out of my head. Amazing atmosphere combined with exceptional food and service, let’s not forget the wine 🍷
I found Sen to be one of the most intimate and delicious meals during my stay in Edinburgh. This hole-in-the-wall modern dining experience provides the next level of all your favorite south East Asian dishes. The Salt and Pepper Squid stood out, and the duck curry was melt in your mouth goodness. Make sure to have a reservation, as this place fills up quick!
Had a lovely last evening. Ate the vegetarian summer rolls and the lemongrass Tofu. Had a delicious apple & ginger cider with it. Would also recommend the Vietnamese coffee! Everything tasted delicious, was delivered fast and the the waitress was very attentive. Book a table in advance!
Visiting Edinburgh and walked in this nice Vietnamese restaurant , we didn’t make reservation and the server was nice enough to offer us a table. The food was very good, you can tell that all are made and not store bought products, the Vietnamese spring rolls were not the same as the ones we used to have in Hong Kong, it tasted fresh and crispy. Pho had 2 types of beef and with very tasty beef balls, broth was just right, also love the crispy dough with a chili/Hoi Sin sauce, something that I’ve never had in Vietnamese restaurants before, the server said it’s from the boss’s hometown. The fried rice and salad was also tasty. Will definitely recommend to friends and come back when I visit the city.
This place is definitely a hidden gem and the great reviews are well justified. The staff are all very welcoming and friendly. The starters were fantastic in particular the salt and pepper squid. Then I had the lemongrass chicken with rice for mains. All of it was excellent and would love to come back again.
Very delicious food that was priced appropriately and the wait staff were also attentive and helpful. It had a sleek and modern atmosphere and also quiet, so I could actually hear my friend talk! Unfortunately it tends to get busy during peak hours, so you might want to make a booking or eat earlier!
There isn't much to be found for Vietnamese food here in Edinburgh, but this place will satisfy your craving for the flavors of Viet Nam. The food was flavorful and delicious, presentation is excellent and the range of items on the menu perfect for a great dining experience. I'd fully recommend this to anyone who loves Asian cuisine. We were dining lightly, so we just had the 5-spice chicken skewers, sticky tofu tamarind and the papaya salad. Skewers were quite flavorful, with sweet chili sauce, served atop some rice vermicelli. The sticky tofu could have been a bit more tamarindy, but was a nice treat nonetheless. We added a serving of rice to sop up all that tasty sauce. Papaya salad was crisp and fresh (who knows where they got the green papaya!), on point: tangy, sweet and spicy as it should be with the expected aromatic herbs: mint, Thai basil and cilantro. Next time, we'll be having the Shrimp Paste on Sugarcane (a personal favorite), Pho and the Sea Bass, all of which sounded so appetizing, but we weren't hungry enough to do it justice. Space is tight, the place is popular, so definitely get a reservation in advance. This is an awesome place for a date, interesting food, classy, yet lively, atmosphere and the service is very friendly.
Another fantastic meal with great service Always busy and they had to turn a few people away so definitely recommend booking We had 3 starters, 3 mains, 2 desserts and some drinks
Wonderful Food, Drink and service good value for money. Recommend this restaurant if you like Vietnamese cuisine great if vegetarian!
Both of the waitresses were extremely friendly, helpful and attentive. The summer rolls were absolutely delicious and the main courses were good as well. Maybe the stir fry could be a bit more seasoned… Overall it was a great experience and one of our most satisfying restaurant-visits in Edinburgh!
Authentic Vietnamese restaurant. As soon as I walked in, the smell reminded me of when I was in Vietnam. The food was amazing and full of flavour. Great decor too. Just a small restaurant with about 10 tables, so advised to book in advance. Great menu options, and also had a vegan menu. Lovely staff and the service was great
The personnel of that restaurant are very kind and they pay a lot of attention to us. We got three dishes, the salmon tart, pork with spring rolls and phỏ. Everything was very tasty and reminds me of when my wife and I were in Vietnam visiting her family. I really recommend that restaurant you will enjoy it a lot.
Beautifully decorated, intimate Vietnamese restaurant with delicious food and excellent service. Felt like you were being welcomed in to someone's home. Food was the best Asian food I've ever had. The tofu main was tasty but - unlike a lot of Asian food I've had in the past - not drowning in sauce. Veggie spring roll starter was premium too - felt very very freshly cooked.
Authentic food with a good and warming service. I had a great experience here and felt satisfied. Highly recommended!
Had the prawn mousse, the pho bo, papaya salad, salt and pepper tofu and a lotus tea. Beautiful presentation, excellent atmosphere, astounding food. Staff was great - very informative and chatty. Be warned, the restaurant is intimate, so do book in advance and let them know if you need special accommodations.
Incredible food, lovely service, perfect place for a date night. Absolutely would come back. The duck curry and the prawn mousse on sugarcane were so delicious.
I have had food at SEN a few times and it is the best Vietnamese restaurant in Edinburgh! I order the Pho often as it is just amazing and hits the spot every time. The coconut pork belly is also one of my favourites on their menu, with a delicately sweet and silky sauce. The interior adds to the atmosphere and the staff are so welcoming. I have recommend to family and friends and have all said they enjoyed the food and experience, would highly recommend to all who want to have authentic Vietnamese food in Edinburgh!
A delightful addition to Edinburgh south-side's growing choice of south-east asian restaurants. Chicken nest, papaya salad, sea-bass and duck curry with fragrant rice all highly recommended. Lovely attentive waiting staff and management. Premises are small but have a fresh and relaxed ambience which makes the dining experience even more enjoyable. Book well ahead, they are popular....for good reason.
Pictured: duck curry, then chilli chicken, then tamarind sticky tofu. Absolutely sensational food. Staff were incredibly accommodating even on a busy evening attending to our needs, the food was delicious, aromatic and rich flavours. Would come back again in a heartbeat. Thank you for a lovely evening!
Honestly one of the most stunning meals I have had in a long time. The duck curry was fantastic - never had any better. This place is a gem. Don’t think Monik, just go for it. 😍😍😍
Staff were very friendly. We had the confit duck curry with rice, crispy sweet and sour sea bass with noodles, salt and pepper squid and crispy seafood and pork rolls. All delicious - I couldn't fault a thing!
We popped in here randomly during our trip and we were thoroughly surprised! It was great! Excellent veg/vegan options. Staff was super friendly. It's busy and small, so make sure to get a reservation! Highly recommend!
Our waitress was lovely! Very friendly and smiley. My plate was really good, I have no complaints about the taste, but the portion size was a bit small, especially compared to the same plate from other Vietnamese restaurants. My friend’s plate tasted really good too, but it was too salty. Overall really enjoyable, the tofu really tasted like meat, I would have totally believed it was chicken or fish. Drip coffee was good, but maybe some experimentation to find the best milk brand for thickness and texture is required. Very likely to come back again.
I have wanted to come here for a while and finally had a chance a couple weeks ago with some friends. The restaurant was nicely decorated and I liked what they did with the ceiling, though it did seem somewhat tired. Services was very good, matching the 10% service charge imposed. I tried their stir-fry vegetable phở. No idea about authenticity, but it was delicious. My friends liked what they had too. I feel a bit priced out to come here on my own, but with the right company I'd definitely have this on my list. It's not very big so you probably want to book in advance.
So arrived and we're informed it's cash only. The service was a bit mismatch and they could have left a jug of water on the table. Not much choice for wine by the glass but I would recommend the Vietnamese beer
Very friendly waiting staff, great food! Had the much recommended duck curry and lemongrass chilli chicken as well as prawn puree and hanoi crispy spring rolls.
Nice atmosphere. I had beef noodle soup. Food was good. The broth was beautifully clear however, I did not find the soup to be authentic. I was also surprised that for garnish, they only had sprigs of mint. The waiters seemed very busy and it's a popular place. Perfect soup for hangovers as well.
I was disappointed by SEN. While the environment is well decorated and intimate, the food is below par. The summer rolls were rather small and very loosely wrapped, so they just fell apart after taking a bite. Chicken skewers were fine, nothing special about them. The grilled pork vermicelli salad was unbelievably greasy. There was a pool of oil at the bottom of the bowl and the pork had a very soapy flavour (not in a coriander-soapy way but like actual soap). It was a fine enough dish but absolutely not worth 18 great British pounds. I would pay £12 at absolute max for a dish like that. They did take our coats when we sat down which I thought was nice until I realised they were hung right next to the kitchen. My coat now has a very strong fried smell that I am rather unhappy about. I wouldn’t recommend this place as there are plenty of other great Vietnamese restaurants with better food for half the price.
Viet restaurant if it was presented as “high end.” I didnt expect much when the restaurant doesn’t seem family owned. Got the summer rolls and pho. The food was decently authentic but portions were brutally small compared to its price. The pho bowl was about the size of my hand with little protein. The summer rolls were smaller than the average roll; with mainly noodles. Pho came with a fried chinese donut stick—good touch. Hoisin sauce and sriracha were presented in a small disk. Beef was tender. Broth was a little flat. Edinburgh does not have many great viet options, this is the closest you’re going to get. Unfortunately, not something I’d recommend as someone who is viet. Service was good and attentive though.
Not the best. Service was good and friendly. However, the broth was not very flavourful. Very small portion compared to price. Meat to broth to noodle ratio was off. They give you a little bit of chili sauca and hoisin in a bowl. Wish they just let you do it yourself. Summer rolls were very small and not a lot inside them. But the peanut sauce was good.
I would have to say this might be the worst Vietnamese restaurant of all of the Vietnamese restaurants in Edinburgh. The prices are the same or above the average of other Vietnamese restaurants. BUT the food quality here is really…poor. I want to try this so I ordered two portions of Vietnamese summer rolls: £8.5 each but!!! Each portion only contains two shrimps! I was again cheated by the restaurant’s own photography: their official photography shows it is like four shrimps in side each summer roll! But the same price or even lower at any other Edinburgh Vietnamese restaurants you can find can give you at least 3 prawns in each portion of summer roll! It’s a total fraud! Because summer roll is one of the signature and the most common dish for any Vietnamese foods, I can guess that the rest of dishes would be of the same poor but pricey quality. Avoid at all cost, please. And one more thing, the taste is poor and plain. Again, you can find many other great tastes from any other Vietnamese restaurants in Edinburgh. Zero stars if I could give.
Beware of home delivery orders. They do not accept responsibility if your order is not delivered. I am writing to make a polite complaint about a home delivery order that never arrived. I paid in full and received confirmation, yet no delivery was made. When I contacted customer service, I was told that you are not responsible once a third party courier collects the parcel. This stance is unacceptable. My contract is with you as the retailer. I paid for the goods and for delivery to my address. If your courier fails to deliver, you remain responsible for supplying the goods or refunding me in full. The loss should not be passed on to the customer. A full refund or a replacement at no additional cost was expected. Telling customers that you accept no responsibility is misleading. I recommend going to the restaurant in person rather than using the delivery service.
