What I got is bibimbap. It tastes great with really cheap price. The small dish tastes really fantastic. If you came from Wisconsin like me on a business trip, I assure you it's the best place you got for lunch. It's definitely better than what we got home.
My question is who comes for the service? Food is good, the aunties are angry. I love it. Just like my time in Seoul.
For convenience of being in our neighborhood, we love getting our Korean bbq fix! The women who run the restaurant are nice and attentive. Combo #3 is the go to for BBQ. The kim chee pancake, japchae, the goat perilla soup, and the dumpling soup are tasty sides. Banchan is great and refilled. This is a place where you're not rushed out of, which is really nice.
There was lots of delicious side dishes!, Price was acceptable and as a meat lover, the Barbeque was really delicious. I had a pleasurable dining experience and staffs was nice. Highly recommend!
This is the 3rd time coming to this place with my sis . They place is clean and comfy . Let me say the spicy wings are amazing ! This time I had a bean paste spicy stew … it hit the spot 👌perrfect. Thank you .
My favorite Korean restaurant. Simple, affordable, tasty. I typically have the seafood pancake and the gobdol bibimbap. The complementary appetizers (fish cake, various kimchi, bean sprouts etc) are good too, and keep getting refilled.
For the past few years, my family and I have been going to this Korea restaurant. It's a great restaurant with great service, the boss is genuine and kind. I have an older sister that have cerebral palsy and is always welcomed with joy. She loves to go there often and sometimes goes by herself. She is never constantly looked at and focused on so much due to her disability, so she never feels intimidated or awkward. I personally love this restaurant and would recommend it to everyone. Their staff is sometimes hard to communicate with and some might take it as rude, but in reality they are just not adapted to the American ways and I understand that. They are very kind hearted and hard workers, they do not slack on their job. GREAT PLACE, GREAT VIBES, and GREAT FOOD.
Sooo good!! We were a little hesitant after reading the one star reviews left by other customers but we decided to give it a try. Service was stellar. Gave us lots of kimchi before the meal. The dishes we ordered were delicious and very authentic! Love this local spot. Everyone should give it a try!! I only took a pic when the food was done bc it was so good we ate all of it!
Some of the best Korean food. Makes you feel like you’re eating home food in the best way. Restaurant was very cozy and clean. I like spicy but can’t handle too much spice , and the owner suggested a white Tteokbokki which was delicious . Best rice cake I’ve had so chewy and satisfying. Their kimchi was also soo good and not too spicy but so flavorful. The Mandu was perfectly crispy and also the best I’ve ever had. The bulgogi was so soft and the banchan so fresh. 10/10 highly recommend. It’s a family place and one of those hole in the wall places that doesn’t have a bunch of servers so be patient and kind because it is 1000% worth it. Can’t wait to go back to try the Korean bbq.
My experience of this place was wonderful I had lunch with my family and the family had barbecue. The barbecue was nice, the service is good, and the atmosphere can be noisy during meal times.
This restaurant has been there even 24 years ago in 1999. I remembered I used to go there when i lived in Jackson Height. The foods were great, authentic Korean food is always good. I definitely will visit this restaurant to remind my memories.
Great Korean BBQ place, but they have everything else from tteokbokki to soups, stews, Korean fried chicken wings, etc. We got the thick cut samgyeopsal and it was so good. The waitress cooked it for us so it came out nice and crispy. We also got tteokbokki, chicken wings, kimchi pajeon and makgeolli. The waitress was very nice and gave us some steamed egg 서비스. There was plenty of banchan with a good variety. I can't wait to come back to try some of the soups, stews and other dishes. Great dinner! 감사합니다!
My family and I have been to this place years ago and ordered BBQ, and many other side dishes. The service was wonderful this was because the waiter cut it beef for us. The atmosphere was that been there for dinner, lots of people and many others.
My partner and I went last night and the food was fantastic! We got the Galbi-Tang, Oyster pancake and cold noodles that I can't remember the name of, but were very refreshing and tasty!
I dined at this lovely Korean restaurant and had a fantastic experience. The owner was incredibly friendly and welcoming, which added so much to the overall dining atmosphere. The gamja tang dish I ordered was absolutely delicious - the flavors were rich and authentic. I highly recommend this restaurant for anyone looking for great Korean food served with a warm and friendly smile!"
Really enjoyed the food, although wouldn't say it's the cheapest Korean restaurant I've been to. The restaurant is also quite spacious. Re the service, the waitresses were slightly on the colder side, not overtly friendly or rude.
My dad started this place 43 years ago. Food is still good. Service is a bit rough around the edges.
If you're looking for K bbq...there are many other options..but this place serves authentic Korean style soups, stews, casseroles and their mackerel is great. The service is great and the atmosphere is quaint and the server lady is warm and caring...Korean hospitality at its best 👌
being here is like being home. this is the best, most comforting restaurant in the neighborhood. everything on the menu is delicious, but their galbitang is truly truly out of this world. the korean ladies fuss over you and make sure you finish your radishes. the services are super fast. such a neighborhood hidden gem.
Honestly this is like accidental moment me and my friends had, cause after comeback from walmart we crave some food to eat for dinner and when we decide to go to dimsum place, i saw this place on red light position, then we ask if it's still open? And finally we come to dine in, and the foods are so delicious. Recommended for everybody who looks for late dinner cause they open till 3AM.
Great 24hr Korean Restaurant! If you like spicy, I TRULY RECOMMEND THE: "O JING EO DOEP BAP" SPICY SQUID with rice Also, The Korean Style Chicken Wings are super good! There are many other really delicious food here! A little Advice: Don't wear your favorite clothes here, the ventilation is not all that great and upon leaving the restaurant you'll find yourself smelling completely like a Korean Kitchen.
Food was great. Definitely had an authentic flavor, both the side dishes and the main. Prices are expensive so don't expect to eat cheap. Korean alcohol is available as well. The only thing I didn't like was how the cashier tried to tell me to tip more than my already generous tip. Her insistence was not necessary and made for an awkward situation. Would have given 5 stars otherwise. Parking is sparce but train station is right around the corner.
Place was a lot bigger than I expected. Orders some soup dish. Was okay, the soup was a bit spicy but not very salty. It was actually...A lot of soup. I liked the decor and atmosphere, there were actual Koreans dining here, and place had a home feel to it, which makes up for the so so food that were priced above average in Elmhurst.
Food is use to be good. We usually go there at late night. The servers here are very nice. But I still go there because of their food
Most attractive factor__ a lot of delicious side dishes and I come here just this to be honest. Price__ so so, you can say it's a little pricey for this area Taste__superb, extraordinary Meal choices__BbQ , combos, appetizers, main dishes and rice, soup bowls, that's a lot My experience__ $50 for two people dinner, it was totally worth it. Plus it opens 24 hrs.
I got off the 7 train on my way home from the beach. First time here . Had the Sweet and Sour Fried Pork about $25 it was enough for 4 people and mostly meat and it was Delicious. Paid $3 extra for white rice. Had a Korean bottled beer for $7. On the side they give you separately potato, cabbage, fish, broccoli. The service was great , professional traditional friendly style. I’ll be going back soon .
This has been my “go to” spot for Korean food in the neighborhood for years. Food is good and authentic, especially the fresh banchan with kimchi (small side dishes). And if you have craving for kimchi, you can even purchase tasty kimchi to go! What I like about this quaint place is they have a mixture of Korean-American inspired food as well as some authentic (stuff grandma makes) dishes. Price is decent and comparable to what everything costs in ny now. Some of these smaller neighborhood restaurants struggle to stay open. But I recommend it. It is worth trying!
Came upon this place for breakfast while walking around Jackson heights. Everything from the interior and food to service reminded me of an old school Korean restaurant in Seoul. I decided to go for the sundae guk which is a soup dish with pork sausage and meat. The soup itself was just average, but their Banchan dishes, especially kimchi and the radishes, were great. I was told that their main kitchen staff starts working around 10am, so it might have been better if the visit was a bit later. Overall, this seems like a good place to enjoy a hearty Korean meal, but may not be the best option for people who care a lot about service.
Three of us got a combo for four (includes ban chan, beef, bulgogi, pork, chicken), egg souffle, and a soup each (beef offals, buddae jiggae, sundubu); it was too much food. But so delicious! Also, the ajumma cooked everything for us, so we just sat back and feasted. All in all, it was $80 (incl tip) per person with a bottle of chamisul.
Food was fine to good, except the chicken over rice. Not very tasty or seasoned. Everything else was fine. The main reason I'm docking points is very poor service with rude and guilt tripping servers.
The food was below average compared to most other restaurants in flushing but it was also above average in price when compared to its counterparts. The servers are a bit passive aggressive when my group of 3 friends ordered only 2 dishes to share but aside from that, I think it's one of the only restaurants of it's kind in the area. So if you like korean food or want to try it then come here. Just know that you could most definitely get better value and quality in flushing if you can make the effort in travelling
We came in and the lady literally threw the menus on the table and then got mad when we weren’t ready to order. Service was horrible but food made up for it I guess( and we still tipped her 10$ lol ) for 3 of us
Time brings about change, be it good or bad. In this case, it would be for the worse. This used to be the go-to spot for barbeque gatherings back in the day. Now with new bbq restaurants opening up in the city and Flushing, it just doesn't measure up. Two things done well here are the seafood pancakes and the numerous banchans. Everything else was mehs. The meats were overcooked and dry. We had to flag down our waitress for the steamed egg. They used to give sikhye at the end of the meal but that's changed too. Thanks for the good memories Chung Ki Wa but I don't think I'll be returning.
To be honest… just don’t go here unless you really need a late night hungover and crave for something to eat after drink Best They serve good wholesome K food The pancake is not bad (but it can be better) Only the bulgogi worth it, it is hot, steamy and very yummy- the rice is slightly burnt and crunchy- which is my favorite part They give a lot of banchan Bad So the thing is: they just have A LOT of problems The staffs is very… cold and you always need to repeat twice until she do something I think the place understaffed… because the server really hate to be there tbh The beef is super hard and chewy…. I would not call it if I were you The servers “passive aggressive” ask for us to tips 18% at least while its just a very quick lunch (we did tips fyi but its “not enough”)… we didnt mind and did leave 18% tip it but being ask for tips is … not our thing
The food is ok and pricey, but the service is getting worse. The lady kept repeating that I need to tip at least 15% if I want to pay & tip by card. If lower than 15% I have to tip in cash. Wth!!
This place used to be fantastic as you can see from my earlier review. Now, not so much. The quality of the food has really fallen off and the prices have gone up. The service is not nearly as friendly as it used to be and they come right out and ask you to not use your credit card. Not cool. ***********Food was outstanding and the service was pretty good too. The women who run this place were so cool to us. We wandered in for lunch and had our baby with us and they were all over it. Absolutely the best small plates I have ever had at any Korean place. Lots of em and they were all tasty! The price was reasonable too for what you get. Being a non-Korean, I was delighted at the way I was welcomed and the recommendations they offered up. I will certainly return to this place.**************
I have no denial about the food in this place but waiters r gonna rip u off with tips, I understand tipping is a culture but they asked tip of $30 bcoz they have to do BBQ grill for u.. I had BBQ unlimited in many other places, so with this kind of attitude, I'd not recommend or I personally won't be a second time customer. Absolute disappointment with Robbing tips from customer.
So we were craving for Korean food in the evening and this was the very first time we came to this restaurant, It was not so good than we expected, including the atmosphere and specially the service was very poor, they sounds rude, And what amazed me the most is that the tip depends on how they serve costumers infact they were asking for 18% tips which is not right, it is us who decides not you anyway I don’t think they deserve.
Food was okay actually it’s good but why they are literally forcing the tips. We are also students and did 18% tips. I think that’s good enough but sadly they aren’t happy and making some weird expressions. Queer feeling really!! Not gonna come again🫡
Looking around the area for dinner after getting off the subway at Jackson Hts-Roosevelt Av and we walk into this place. We were seated right away as there was only one other table occupied with customers. We ordered the dumplings, bulgogi, chicken fried rice, and white rice for the kids. Service started out fine but towards the end, it just got worse and worse to the point we were told to wait to order a soda and get some soy sauce because she was busy. Mind you there’s only 3 occupied tables, 2 people each table and ours with 5 people (3 kids). Food was actually decent. Nothing special, but decent. When we went to pay our check, we left a $10 bill on the table and added an additional tip to charge to our card. Our server/front of house lady didn’t like that we added only $5 extra for tip on the card and demanded we put a higher tip. We tried to explain that we also left cash on the table in a very visible spot 4 feet from where we were standing. She was getting very loud with us telling us to leave a bigger tip. The other people in the restaurant were all looking at this situation unfold. Since we had 3 small kids and it was getting late, we just added a little more to the tip and left, rather than argue with her more about it. Overall, I don’t recommend dining here because of the rude service and the hassle they will give you when you try to pay/tip.
Similar experience with the other customers. Went there for a simple lunch and just wanted to order one big thing for me and my mother to share. The waiter made me order one entree each, fine. The food was not bad, pretty standard Korean food quality. The total check was $33 and I left a $5 dollar tip. The waiter demanded that we leave more, by saying it is a new rule in NY now to tip 18%, which apparently is not. I let her know that there is no such rule and she rolled her eye on me and turned nasty attitude. Will not dine there again.
To put it plainly, the food here is not good for the price requested. We ordered the Cha-Dolbagi (thinly sliced beef) and the Sandubu-jigae (tofu curd pot stew with seafood). If you order only one meat plate, they cook it in the back. Normally Im fine with this but the beef came out incrediblly overcooked with some pieces totally burnt. The tofu curd pot stew had fairly cheep ingredients. The tofu and seafood were clearly prepackaged/forzen. Additionally, the stew had this sour smell that made it unpleasant to eat. Normally Im fine with low quality food if it is reflected in the price. But these two dishes and 1 service of rice cost is $56 before tip (2024). The service was fine but not good. We were initially seated and serviced by a kind young lady and gentlmen. However, after the order we never saw from them again. Instead an older lady started to bring out food and got our order wrong. She later fixed her mistake. Then when it came to tipping, they were stringent that we tipped in cash. Overall, I will not coming back here again.
NEVER GO TO THIS RESTAURANT 1. The food is average 2. The waitress is rude to you. If you tip 15% before tax or less than 15%, they will hunt you down. 3. The waitress is racist. If you have an Asian face but you don't look like Korean, they will give you an attitude. There are plenty restaurants nearby and there is no need to visit this restaurant ever never again.
Everyone, don't go to this store! Their service attitude is very poor, especially the old Korean woman with long hair, she didn't clean the table herself, I just want some tissues, wipe it! She looked at me very impatiently and said: How many pieces of paper do you two need? This is a really bad experience!
pretty judgmental when my parents asked for water since the "water" the waitress gave us was actually tea, and forced my dad to tip more than what he originally tipped. you don't force customers to give a bigger tip than what they originally gave and you don't have to be so demanding about it. really upset about that since my dad gave a good tip and you couldn't be appreciative about it.
F THIS JOINT! been going here for maybe 15+ years and last night they stopped us from getting extra kimchi - very wild when you're eating bbq. I was complaining to my dad about the spot and how they got cheap and he said last time he went, they asked to get the leftover banchan wrapped with their leftovers and they didnt allow them saying it might go bad and make them sick (?) and assumed they recycled it from other tables. Seeing other comments here confirming the same assumption. Wack! And very disgusting since spit covered chopsticks dance with all that. Real sad to give up on a place where i have so many great food memories 😔😭
Order was messed up. We ordered shrimp fried rice, gave us beef fried rice, charged us the price of Shrimp fried rice, the food was really salty, not satisfied with the quality of food and over priced.
The food was good but the service was AWFUL. We asked for more lettuce but they said they were not gonna give us which is unheard of. I’ve been to many Korean restaurants and that’s a first. They also didn’t let my family of 6 sit on the same table because of COVID but they let a different family of 7 or 8 sit on the same table! Absolutely ridiculous and never coming back to this restaurant ever again.
Expensive, not delicious, that old lady forced me to give her a tip. Overall, this restaurant is very bad.
Service is horrible, they showed receipt in Korean and asked for a cash tip. Spent $500 and they demanded 20% tip after missing an order.
Horrible customer service. The owner and a server were treating us so bad for us, my wife friend she leave from there with eat any meal she was so mad, that was our 1st time trying it.They were laughing at us and when they brought the bill they charged us extra and asked for tips. We told them many times that the bill is not correct but they forced us to pay that amount with $10 tips. I hope they shut down soon.
Horrible customer service. The owner and a server were treating us so bad when we ordered 2 bbq set for 3 of us to share because that was our 1st time trying it.They were laughing at us and when they brought the bill they charged us extra and asked for $15 tips. We told them many times that the bill is not correct but they forced us to pay that amount with $15 tips. I hope they shut down soon.
Racist and forced 15% tips, don’t ever go. I took my mom there for dinner and my mom wasn’t happy with the meat which was cold and chewy, she asked me to give only 10% tips but I didn’t want any drama so I was nice enough to add it to 12%. The waitress saw it and changed her attitude 180 degree and yelled at us be like minimum tip is 15%. I asked her if there’s any law saying that and she went silent, then she’s like fine you Chinese always leave little tips. I was too tired after hours of travel so my brain wasn’t working so we just left without arguing back, but if I wasn’t tired I would straight out cross the 12% tip to 0%. Very DISGUSTING and RACIST don’t ever step in.
Just finished eating at this establishment. The prices for korean barbecue were very expected prices but even the staffed admitted that its barely enough for one person and they wont turn the grill on for that. (33.00 for this one portion) We accepted that and then ordered individual platters instead. which she was upset about when we cancelled our meat order. 17.65 for 8 dumplings that were half frozen through. Donkatsu that was so chewy we had to pull it apart with our fingers, (if youve had this you know it shouldnt be that way)...it was so underwhelming for the price and the service. The lady was very off putting at the beginning and let that flow through her entire time. She barely waited on us since the place was empty on a Tuesday night. We tipped $5 because we were so unhappy with the quality and service. The COLD FOOD!!! HALF FROZEN DUMPLINGS!!!!!!!!! She got mad and slammed our table because we didnt wanna order a tiny meat portion. Ive done amazing AYCEs for the price of a tiny meat portion so yeah im gonna pass!!! the lady then comes up to me and she says oh thats too small of a tip you need to tip 15%, and i didnt want to cause a scene when in trying to have a decent tome with my friends so i shoved out another 5. And usually tips never pain me. I like to make the worker know i appreciate their service but this place was just so low. And to even have the nerve to say that to me instead of asking why i was so dissatisfied????????? I regret shoveling up the other half.. a terrible experience.
Ordered Gopchang Soup for 60 bucks- got 3 containers full of soup only and about 20% gopchang in total. No side udon noodles or veggies, this place used to be ok, now its just going down hill big time. What a shame.
Just now I am my bf went to restaurants for dine in but they didn’t release A/C it’s 86 temperature…we were waiting at counter and lady who work near kitchen told us to sit anywhere as there is only 2person. So we sat and my bf changed his mind and he wants to eat Indian food and I though it’s better to make it to go. I told that old woman as a waitress that we want to make it to go. She changed her facial expression and grabbed the glass of water of us instantly and pointed us to stand on the counter. The way she said OMG to us is so rude and respectful .I can understand if restaurant is busy or even 3or 4table is booked but only 2 customers….. So rude I used to eat at that restaurant few times…but not anymore in my life….
I would give them zero if I could but one is just for food which was okay. They didn’t serve good and we didn’t put much tip. We were about to leave then the person came to us and asked us to give us whole 15% tip on force. I was not planning to give them anything since that was very rude and disrespectful but my friend didn’t want any scene so she gave her 15% tip. Tips is customers choice according to the service. They forcefully took the money from us. Don’t go there, seriously.
There were at least several nuisances, major points of which I am about to elaborate upon, that have developed in me, a considerable amount of vexation and resentment. 1st issue: The dishes were overpriced despite their questionable quality. 2nd issue: They talked behind non-Korean-speaking customers a lot, which made me feel uncomfortable, as such manner, to me, has always been nothing but a discourtesy, especially when done relentlessly and blatantly. 3rd issue: They demanded cash tip unapologetically, potentially making your dining experience uneasy and bitter. extra: There is a chance the menu images are not updated to reflect the current price, and thus I should give them the benefit of the doubt, and suspend my judgement concerning whether they charged me extra with an arbitrary increment. However, I would advise every customer to double-check their bills and the menu. Conclusion: The experience made me feel upset. Personally, I would not recommend this place. If you, for some reason, have decided to eat here, double-check your final bill and compare each detail with their menu.
please dont go to this restaurant !!! yes, dont even try it even if you are craving for k food. i went with my friend here like 2 days before even though i dont want to .she was hosting it so i cant suggest her to some other restaurant.it was my third visit and and worst one.first of all , i asked for a bbq set and she said we cant order only 1 menu ,we have to order 2. which was never heard of. i mean i have tried many k bbq before and even in korea and i understand that you cant order bbq for 1 person as min is for 2 person but they wont suggest 2 separate bbq .still my friend doesnt want to change the menu for me and converse with stubborn ajumma .i was like what . then she brought the worst quality of a meat wrapped around 2 rib (yes ,meat was wrapped around it cleanly separated from the bone.saying its ribeye ) . and one flap of fatty meat was our second set .imagine even 2 set were not enough for 2 people.side dishes were not appealing at all. kimchi was too sweet. they gave us 3-4 pieces of lettuce leaf which were not fresh . we were billed 126$ for 2 people. it includes a small makgeolli and 1 small spicy chicken wings. i know k restaurant are more expensive than other but i have tried several k food in flushing. they have better taste and environment where i ordered a lot from the menu and charged 100 dollar.i even packed some left over food which i was not able to finish at that time. more shocking was she asked for extra 5 dollar tips (on top of our 15 dollar tip) .i would have never given a tip with that attitude . ps: she thinks if we dont speak korean means we have never tried k food before. better go to flushing for better quality and taste for k food not in here! i dont even want to give 1 star .
Forced me to leave AT LEAST 15% tip. Their attitude if customer decides to leave tip under 15% is extremely disrespectful and unprofessional. Also, the basement which the bathroom is so dirty and has rats. Because of that, couldn’t even use the bathroom.
I recently went to dine here I have to tell you the service was the worst i have ever seen The staff is rude and inattentive I took my daughter for her birthday and it was the worst place to take her Besides the staff being rude and the worst service possible they requested that the tip be in cash. And as far as I know tip is voluntary according to the service provided but this lady was un happy with her tip and demanded i gave her the percentage suggested an the bill. All the tables around was just looking at me like if I was robbing this lady thats how loud she was. If I was giving bad service and attitude I don’t see why she had the nerve to demand a bigger tip I do not plan on ever going back to this restaurant nor will I recommend this place to anyone
RACIST, RACIST, RACIST!! Don't come here while black. They will rush through your meal, demand you pay thereafter, clear your table, demand a tip and rush you out. The cheap prices are not worth the rude service. They cleaned our table while 2 other tables (1 which was empty of customers) remained full of empty dirty dishes. I let them know I felt disrespect and and was unsatisfied to which they replied "we sowwy, we no speak good English" yet they knew how to bring me change for a $20, how we wanted the credit card payments split, and they made it VERY clear of the tip. Yet they didn't speak good English. The crazy thing is the young Asian couple next to us who ate and chilled and chatted away even noticed how quickly our table was being cleaned. They were in agreement with us that it seemed we were being rushed out. A DAMN SHAME.
I had an awful experience here, and don't tell me to attribute it to culture or anything of that sort because that's no excuse. If you are not Korean, you are made to feel unwelcome as if serving you is a chore. Service was dismissive if even existent. The seafood pancake tastes like it was reheated and briefly pan fried, the accompanying sauce thick almost like a goop. My boyfriend made the mistake of ordering a chef's specialty - $40 for a slop of bean sprouts and old shellfish - and the waitress made a face when he asked for a crab cracker. He asked again, and was met with a snicker before the waitress wandered off and eventually came back with tongs and scissors. How on earth do you serve shellfish meals and not have crab crackers? By now, we were entirely put off and had no desire to finish the mediocre food. Do yourself a favor and take the 7 to Flushing for genuine Korean food with some semblance of service..
Buddy of mine was more hungrier than me so he ordered entree and drinks while I just got an appetizer. She glared at me and got mad. She talked in a rude aggressive tone as well.
Terrible service. Our server was extremely rude and passive-aggressive when we tipped 18% (almost $35). While cooking the BBQ meat, she dropped a few pieces on the table and put them back with the rest—totally unsanitary. She also pressured us to order more food and spoke very rudely whenever we asked questions. Definitely not coming back.
I went to this restaurant with my family, but I encountered an older staff member, who seemed to be the owner, speaking very rudely to me after I had already paid. The issue started because the staff wanted me to leave a cash tip, but I insisted on tipping via credit card. After that, I was scolded in what I believe was Korean — I recognized it because the older staff member walked away from my table looking extremely upset. I felt awful about the whole experience. This kind of service is unacceptable, and I will never come back to this restaurant again. Terrible service!
Not worth the visit. The food was without salt and the red bean korean paste was diluted with water, which means no flavour in the food. I order the Bibimbap without meat and they charged me 2 dollars to remove the meat!!
No AC even during a reported heatwave day, food subpar - ordered the bulgogi lunch special was told oh no the regular bulgogi was better (of course it costs more than the lunch special- didn’t realize that right away) but the worse part was the server demanding more money for her tip and would not stop hounding us for an 18% tip apparently she doesn’t understand that tip is optional and they definitely did not deserve that good of a tip she was lucky we were giving her something in the first place - would not recommend.
This is the only Korean place close to where we live so we decide to go and try .one old lady served us . We used some of the bbq sauce with the bbq .middle of our bbq time the server took all the bbq sauce and put them back at the cabinet with their lids, we were shocked to see and keep an eye on the server if she uses the same bbq sauce for other customers.after few minutes one couple came in for dine in and the server served the same bbq sauce which she took from our table . This was horrible and we decided to give very less tip $25 the server rejected the tip saying this is too less, minimum tip is 18% and all so we didn’t want to make big issue since we were with our cousin who recently moved here and gave 15% . Please don’t give the same experience to other customers. Do improve your service and food quality so that other customers will definitely give you better tip . Worst experience ever
We came to eat here when my sister was visiting from the UK because this was her college tradition but we were met with deceitful service and low quality food. They purposely make you order more and choose the most expensive options. Won’t properly tell you what comes in it and expect you to eat beef tongue when we didn’t even want it. When we got the receipt. There was a random charge that we couldn’t identify. They are cheap and want to squeeze as much money they can from you. But what got us so mad was when we were paying we calculated the right amount of tip as they are very rude and direct about the 15% tip. We tipped 15% but the lady was so rude she was counting the tip money in front of us to make sure we gave the right amount and was met with embarrassment when she realized we tipped correctly. Before she counted she was accusing us of not tipping enough. The quality of the food isn’t great either. Don’t be fooled by their smiling faces and NEVER eat here! They are scammers.
The rude old lady that works there ruined my birthday dinner. Payed over 50 dollars for bbq and a soup and she didn’t bring out lettuce or dipping sauces that usually accompany a bbq. She got annoyed when I asked for it and when we ran out of lettuce (there were only like 6 lettuce leafs) she had the nerve to snap at me that lettuce is expensive ! How rude!! So after spending 50 dollars for a bbq and soup she up charged us another 5 dollars for another preciois 6 leafs of lettuce. Ridiculous. My friend who treated me to my birthday meal didn’t tip her after her rude service and she wanted to know where her tip was. She can take it out of the 5 dollars she uncharged us. We will never be eating here again. Which is unfortunate because I love Korean food and this place is so close to my house I would eat here every day of the lady had not been so rude but there are other Korean places near by I can go to instead.
Five of us went to this place for a peaceful dinner, but it ended up being a waste of time and money. The elderly woman was extremely rude and obnoxious. She demand that we order as quickly as possible. She wants us to eat quickly and leave early. She was treating us as if we were here for free food. We felt completely uneasy, but a woman with short hair and better English appeared to be a nice person. This experience has convinced us that we won't go back to Chung Ki Wah. P.S. the food wasn't cheap enough for us to treat it this way.
I would never come back here again and it’s solely because of the service. My family of 10 decided to come here for dinner. Mind you, we are the ONLY one in the restaurant. They give us 2 menus, we had to ask for more. 5 mins sitting, the waitress with the black hair is asking what we want. We told her please give us a min. She just stands there. She then demands that we should each order one item. Um, no. We always eat family style. We ignore her suggestion and then she still continues to huff and puff while standing there. She made more comments and we were ready to leave. The ONLY reason we stayed was because the next waitress with red-ish hair took our order and was nice. After the first waitress’s service, my mood just turned sour. I did not enjoy the food nor did my family. It wasn’t bad but it wasn’t good either. Through out our meal, the 1st server is constantly hovering, making noises. My family member said “she is treating us like we are here eating for free” At the end of the meal, the nice waitress brings our bill and we pay. But when the receipt came back, the first rude waitress comes. She says “tip in cash” we said okay and she continues to stand there. We gave her 18% even with her bad service. And then she takes the receipts and demands that it’s min. 20% and that so many of us came here to eat and that we should tip more. SHE WOULD NOT LEAVE OUR TABLE. We tipped her 20% to get her to leave. She didn’t say thank you or nothing!! I will be telling everyone not to come here. No one wants to go out to eat to experience this kind of behavior.
It honestly pains me to write a negative review because the food here is really good. Unfortunately, the service and experiences I’ve had have made me decide not to return. On more than one occasion, I felt that the servers were noticeably more attentive to other (Asian) customers, while my table was left waiting for basic things like water. We even had to ask multiple times just to get a pitcher so we wouldn’t have to keep flagging someone down. Another issue I’ve encountered twice now is being told that tipping must be 18%. When I asked to see this policy on the menu, receipt, or even posted anywhere in the restaurant, no proof was given. In fact, one server refused to let us leave until we added this “mandatory” tip, which was shocking. Today, something similar happened again — I paid my bill in cash, planning to leave the tip after, but the server became upset when the cash only covered the bill and told me not to forget that I “HAVE” to leave a tip. When I did leave a tip, she demanded more and then raised her voice at me when I explained that tips are optional. On top of that, I witnessed a server drop food while refilling side dishes and place it back on the plate instead of discarding it. Again, the food itself is very good, but the poor service, uncomfortable treatment, and questionable practices make it not worth coming back. Everyone should feel welcome and respected when dining out, and unfortunately, that hasn’t been my experience here.
Server don't know how to respect. This is my last time I will never go that place.
This place was my go to for whenever I had a Korean craving, before the pandemic, during, and after. I always enjoyed the service and food. However, this has changed. The quality of this place has really dropped, not just the quality of the food, but also the service. The last three times i've come into dine the attitude of the host, and really anyone working has progressively gotten more rude. After today I no longer can support this place nor reccommend their buisness to anyone, which is most unfortunate. You shouldn't treat people that regularly eat at your establishment like trash; or really anyone like trash. I'm not sure if there is stress due to reduced foot traffic, last couple of times the place has been quite empty. Whatever the reason taking out your stress on customers isn't acceptable. Luckily in that area theres a plethora of other Asian restaurants to explore and support where you aren't going to be treated with disrespect.
Just went there last-night service was ok, but our seafood hot pot had a cockroach on top of the tofu. The lady said she will credit us, but when I saw the bill she never credit it. Our group didn’t make a big fuss about it, because there’s other groups still eating. She went a change the soup but No apologize. I was pretty grossed out by that cockroach, afraid to go out to eat again.
Very shameful place. Went to eat with friends and the energy was nasty. The employees FORCED us to give a higher tip than what we already provided. Hope they see this because these people were rude and disrespectful.
I got sick after eating the food there. Please don't go to this restaurant, there is a high chance that you will get sick too. They serve very bad food. We used to go to this restaurant all the time to eat, but its condition is getting worse and worse than before. The two of us who went to dinner yesterday were served such disgusting garbage foods. There were flies and gnats flying all over our food. There were no waiters, just an old woman. She didn't come to refill the water once, didn't pick up the plate after we finished eating, and didn't even take it away until we paid the bill. But even though we gave an 18% tip, she came back later to ask for the tip, saying it wasn't enough. From now on, we will never go to this restaurant. They threw away the garbage and put octopus dust in our food. This is a restaurant run by people who can't afford to eat. If the tips are low, the shameless ones come back to beg.😡
This was one of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever had. Despite seeing multiple negative reviews, we chose to visit because the restaurant was open late. Unfortunately, we found hair in two of our main dishes. When we brought this to the server’s attention, the lady became more argumentative and dismissive, even implying that we were trying to get free food. Her behavior was extremely rude. Overall, the experience was disappointing and completely unacceptable.
Their food is not worth the price they ask for. I ordered Seafood soup Haemul Jeongol. But the soup that they served was absolutely different and tastes so bad. Not even single piece of shrimp, oyster, mushrooms and vegetables are included. They only put the cheap small white fish pieces and two crab pieces without any meat in it. They only put kimchi and soy sauce, tofu and 2 to 3 pieces of white fish and meatless crab. So disappointed. And also the service is also so bad. I also ordered fried oyster pancake. Same thing happened. Only two or three pieces of small oyster and it’s not crunchy enough. Total was $71 for pancake + seafood soup + beef tripe soup and tip 18% which is a mandatory. I won’t go back there again.
Whoever is thinking about going there, please don’t. Trust me-the food wasn’t good, and the service was even worse. they asked for tips like robbery. It was my first time there, and I’m completely done with this restaurant.
my third time visiting, but the experience was honestly shocking. The staff were extremely rude, and I actually heard them talking badly about customers in Korean, assuming foreigners wouldn’t understand. They said things like “She only left a $4 tip, how disgusting,” and other insulting comments right in front of customers. I couldn’t believe it. The food wasn’t good either. The broccoli tasted spoiled, and when I tried to ask something, most of the older staff didn’t even respond. When I went to pay, they asked if I wanted the tip automatically included or separated. When I said I would pay the tip separately, the staff member literally questioned me — “Why? Why separate? Just include it, 18% is accurate.” Her tone was confrontational and rude. If the service had been decent, I would’ve gladly tipped 18%, but the attitude was so unpleasant and disrespectful that I honestly wanted to leave zero. I still left a small amount only because she kept staring at me aggressively. This place is truly the worst Korean restaurant experience I’ve had in New York. I’ve lived here for years and have never written a review like this, but I’m honestly shocked. The first time I visited, there were flies and mosquitoes inside — the hygiene was terrible. I’m never going back. The staff are unbelievably rude and unprofessional.
Awful service listen to the reviews go somewhere else. The ladies will demand more tip from you, for a horrible service. Given attitude while we were ordering, making us feel so uncomfortable, very disappointed. Taste of food was not bad.
If you want quality food and to be treated well stay clear from this place. My friend and I walked in and no one welcomed us, but that’s ok we’re just here for food, right? We get our food and they taste a little “old” and not all that good (we got the tteokbokki and bulgogi bibimbap) compared to the Korean food we get at Seoul tofu in flushing or BCD tofu house in manhattan (which I do recommend). Which even then is ok, we wanted to try a new local place near us and we found out it’s not for us, no biggie. My problem lies in the fact that both servers were deep in their phones to the point where it took me a good ten minutes to even get their attention for water. And then when we were done, another ten minutes to get their attention for the check. In fact, several times one of them did glance at us and made eye contact only to immediately look away, hello? But fear not, all their words and attention suddenly appeared when it came time to sign our receipt and give them a tip. That lady all of a sudden did not shy away from eye contact, standing right next to our table literally staring us down. Obviously we didn’t want to give them 18% being that their service was beyond terrible, but still we decided to give them 15%. She counted the cash in front of us and suddenly she was able to speak and let us know we actually owe her one more dollar. Really? For a dollar you had to act that shameless knowing how terrible your service was? Whatever, we gave it to them and left vowing to never come back and to write a review. And guess what? They didn’t even bid us good night or even a thank you as we left. For $20 a dish, please go elsewhere where they actually care about your patronage and please read the other reviews if you don’t believe me, all have said the same. Never will I be back, I don’t support those who only care about me when it comes to tipping them.
We walked in with a good mood but left upset and frustrated. The food was disappointing, and the red sauce (likely gochujang) tasted terrible. What shocked us most was the lady rudely demanding that we add more to our tip—even after we had already tipped fairly. Completely unprofessional! Save your money—there are plenty of far better and fancier restaurants in Manhattan at the same price.
We came here for dinner, but the experience was very disappointing. The bibimbap was completely tasteless, the prices were unreasonably high, and the service was lacking—no one checked on us, and our water glasses were never refilled. When it was time to leave, we paid our bill of $150 and added a $20 tip, making it $170. As we were walking out, the lady called us back, pointed to the suggested tip guidelines at the bottom of the receipt, and insisted we add $7 more. This was shocking and extremely frustrating, as tipping should always be up to the customer, not forced by the restaurant. I’ve been to many places and have never experienced anything like this. Absolutely unacceptable! We won’t be returning and will definitely be sharing this experience with friends and family.
I'm writing this review because I honestly couldn't believe the experience we had at this restaurant. From the moment we walked in, the service was just off. We were the only ones there, but our waitress was so impatient. She gave us just 2 minutes with the menu before she started pushing us to order. The food wasn't great either. Both the LA galbi and sundubu jjigae had beef and tofu that were way too chewy. What was really shocking, though, was finding a piece of plastic in the jjapchae. That's a serious health and safety hazard that should never happen. The most unbelievable part came at the end. Even with the bad service, we still left a 15% tip. The same waitress came back and demanded we increase it to at least 20%. She made a racist comment to my Chinese friend who was handling the tips, using harmful stereotypes about Chinese people and their tipping practices to justify her demand for more money. We just gave her the extra money to avoid a bigger scene. Tipping is a choice, and it should be based on the quality of the service. You should never be pressured into it, especially with discriminatory comments. Between the plastic in the food and the unprofessional, discriminatory treatment, this was a thoroughly disappointing visit. I can't recommend this place.
All I ordered was 1 order of glass noodles and 1 order of fried dumplings for myself. The entire service experience was just putting the food on my table. I heard the waitresses arguing with some other patrons as they paid and left, and it seemed like they were dining and dashing, but not really. Then it came time for me to pay, and I paid for my 1 person meal, $41 and change, plus $5 tip for the absolute minimum service that they gave. When I gave them the $5 tip, the service person said in broken Korean English, "Tip is 18%. You give two more dollars.". I reluctantly gave the service person the $2 right away, and left realizing what had happened to the patrons that had left before me. The service was awful. They demanded a more than deserving tip, (which I ended up giving). And if I could post the a picture of the dumplings, which had no meat, it was all glass noodle, egg and herbs. There's also a history of them having fruit flies flying around that they can't seem to resolve.
