Pretty much best burritos ever, just over $10. Kind of pricey but cash only remember
This is our go to place if we want carne asada fries with adobada. Love it!! And the menudo is delicious. Need to try if you are in the area.
I've been coming here since the construction of the Super Target. Food is always fresh. My favorite is the shrimp quesadillas, but I always add chicken . So shrimp and chicken quesadillas. Oh. The tacos de Carne asada are huge. I make 2 out of 1.
Had the chicken rolled tacos.. loved them!!!
Great, classic taco shop. Breakfast burritos are excellent with fresh tortillas and well prepared. Their salsas are fresh and flavorful along with their adobada, chrome quesadilla and “Mexican” guacamole (American guac is a mix of sour cream and guac).
Good food , good service ! Cash only be ready
The 5 rolled taco special at $6.00 dollars is great compared to some other taco shops. It comes with a smooth avacodo guacamole. Probably mixed with sour cream? You can get the regular if you request. Bring cash it is cash only.
good food, good drinks, and incredibly nice staff. 10/10 glad its in the neighborhood
Cmon. This place is an Escondido staple. I’m a simple bean and cheese burrito guy and they make the best on the planet
It's my go to place for fast Mexican food. They have great rolled tacos, burritos and combo plates. You can also phone in your order if you don't want to wait.
First time there as I just moved into the area. Really good shrimp a la diablos and carne asada, Guac was great. Will be back.
We came by during a visit with family after moving out of state. Food still tasted great and am looking forward to coming back when we are nearby. This visit was just for bean & cheese burritos, flan and horchata, but the cheese to beans ratio is just right…plus I appreciate that they don’t use orange cheese. Also the flour tortillas were warmed up to perfection and you can’t go wrong with the flan!
I have been going here for more than 10 years and it’s always been affordable tasty Mexican cuisine. To not this is cash only as well so be ready for that. I have tried almost everything from here but I really really enjoy: Nachos Supreme (Nachos with Carne Asada), 5 Rolled Tacos, Chimichanga, Quesadilla Supreme with Carne Asada. Just getting hungry thinking about Chito’s!
Definitely recommend this place .Costumer service was great. Place was clean as well as the restrooms. Great for dine-in or to go. Price's are affordable. Food taste really good. Just a great spot to grab a bite to eat if your on a road trip and need to fill up or are in the area.
I finally got around to trying this place after living down the street for a couple years. I just had some of the best carne asada I've ever had, in SD or Mexico. My Mexican wife said the lengua is some of the best she had ever had (I even liked it and normally don't)! I only wish that I had realized 2 years ago I didn't need to drive across town for a decent burrito. Update since Google is bugging me to do so. I eat here way too often. It's just too good.
Seriously. I live in San Diego and this was the best Mexican I’ve had that I can remember. Super flavorful everything! Beef, enchilada, even the taco shells are freshly fried! And when are the refried beans from a place tasty?? These ones are!! Eat here!!
Carne asada and beans are amazing. But Carnitas could use a little work. Here are some updated prices.

When I came here every table was full. Good sign. Although when I ordered I learned that they only take cash for payment. So I ended up paying $2 to withdraw cash from the atm machine in the back 🤷♂️ I ordered 2 bean and cheese burritos with a side of rice, but the request for the rice was lost in translation. I got one burrito with rice. No big deal. Very decently sized burritos and above average taste. What really stole my heart was their red hot sauce/ salsa roja. One of the best flavors with so much depth. It could make anything taste good honestly. I’d come back here for sure, even with the cash only hurdle as the hot sauce was off the charts.
Today was another terrible experience. The cashier was inattentive and doesn't understand English. The service was awful, and I still had to wait because she was on her cell phone. The same thing happened to me Friday afternoon; the girl was just on her phone chatting with her coworker. I don't know what's going on; it wasn't like this before. The quality of service is declining.
CASH ONLY Great food + service with some amazing values available. Fish Taco combo features 2 huge (and Delicious) tacos AND generous portions of rice and beans for just under $10!
Whenever I visit the West Coast, I make it a point to find a good local Mexican restaurant — and Chito’s Taco Shop in Escondido definitely hits the mark. This place is a true local gem with authentic flavors and generous portions. The food is fresh, flavorful, and exactly what you want when you’re craving real Mexican comfort food. It’s not a flashy spot, but that’s what makes it great — just good, honest Mexican food in a laid-back setting. If you’re in the area and want a local place that delivers on taste, Chito’s is a solid choice.
They're Carne Asada fries are so good. 😍 I always ask for them well done!

Authentic Flavor and Friendly Service in North County Nestled in North County across from the mall, this charming taco shop exceeded my expectations with its delicious fare and warm hospitality. From the moment I stepped inside, I was greeted by a wonderfully kind lady, setting the tone for a delightful dining experience. The shop itself may be small, but don't let its size deceive you. Despite its cozy confines, the ambiance exudes authenticity. While I can't speak to how it feels when crowded, my visit was met with a sense of intimacy and comfort. Opting for a classic carne asada burrito with beans and sour cream, I was pleased to find that my order was swiftly prepared. The tortilla, freshly made and generously sized, served as the perfect vessel for the flavorful contents within. While the carne asada could have benefitted from a touch of seasoning, it was tender and fresh, complemented beautifully by the rich flavors of sour cream, guacamole, and beans. Speaking of beans and guacamole, both were standout components of the burrito, boasting impeccable taste and texture. Each bite was a symphony of flavors, leaving me eager to explore more of the menu offerings on future visits. In conclusion, this taco shop is a true hidden gem in North County, offering authentic flavors and friendly service that leave a lasting impression. With a promise of returning to sample more of their enticing menu, I recommend paying a visit to this little shop.
Their steak fajita burrito is amazing. Other burritos I've tried are just so-so.
The burrito was excellent, large, and very tasty. Carnitas was tender and rich with flavor. I added sour cream and salsa. $12 bucks is high, but the going rate. I've had the Chorizo burrito too, it was excellent too, enjoy.
Chito's is pretty popular, especially around lunch time. Great spot to grab a burrito on the go. Our favorite there is the crunchy beef taco combination. I think they have the best crunchy beef tacos in North county. It is a small shop, so having a line in front of you is expected. Last thing, the parking is almost non-existent. Get there early.
Firstly, we got to Cali burritos. I asked to have pico de gallo added, and the ingredients are super good. The tortillas they use are bomb, but the Cali burritos had hardly any Carne Asada. I wish I had taken a picture because I kept thinking “oh the meat must be at the bottom”, It wasn’t. their green and red salsa were so good and the chile Ellen burrito that we got was like a bean and cheese, but it was really good too. It was like we were in a vegetarian place that had a little bit of meat for those who like it, but it wasn’t their main thing ha ha. Next time I will try them I will get an open plate so that I can get a better taste of what they Have. We were pretty disappointed that we spent almost $50 that barely had meat. However we will give it another shot… it was almost as if they pick and choose who they think should have great food, or who should have Awesome food. Think Seinfeld for reference
If you know Escondido, you know Chito’s. I’ve been eating here for over 18 years, and even though I don’t live in town anymore, no trip to San Diego is complete without a pit stop for my go-to order: the legendary California Burrito with Mexican guac and light sour cream. Let me tell you, this burrito slaps just as hard today as it did back in the day. The flavor? Untouched. The consistency? Impeccable. Chito’s has always had that family-run charm, and it shows in the food. The salsas, especially the red one, are homemade and hit just right. The green’s no slouch either, but the red is where it’s at. Plus, their fridge is always stocked with a solid lineup of Mexican soft drinks that pair perfectly with anything on the menu. What keeps this spot from being a full five stars? Two things: First, it’s time to move on from the cash-only model. I get the old-school vibe, but it’s 2025, nobody’s carrying cash like that, and that $2 ATM fee is a buzzkill. Second, the place could use a little facelift. Nothing major, but a refresh would keep the vibe alive without losing the soul. Still, Chito’s is a straight-up Esco institution, and I’m rooting for them to keep cooking for many more years. Stay golden, Chito’s Team, you’re doing it right.
The best carne asada burrito from a small taco shop….💣🌯 I had to stop by for one every time when I was in the area. They have increased their price quite a bit but I would still come back for the burrito that’s loaded with meat. I also tried shrimp burrito, California burrito, fish tacos, rolled tacos, cheese quesadillas and more. The taste has been consistent. The wait was long during peak lunch hour and it’s cash only.
Chito's Mexican Food today as someone was craving fish tacos. The small shop takes only cash but service is quick and friendly. I had the quesadilla supreme with carne asada and it was delicious. Fish tacos were fried and crispy. Lunch and two cokes for $29. For quality food in a quick time frame hit up Chito's. Go somewhere else for date night! #mexican #escondido
Quaint lil’ taco shop with excellent salsa - go for green!! Enchiladas were tasty, rice and beans a hit with our family. Burritos are BIG!! Great spot for grabbing take out and heading to the park.
Very good Adobada tacos, and I suspect their other meats would be as well.

Good authentic Mexican food. Don't usually eat in, mostly take out. The dining area is kind of cramped. I don't interact much with the staff othrt than the cashier when I pick up my order. It's convenient and you can call your order ahead.
We had a bean & cheese burrito and quesadilla. Burrito was $8 something. It was so small tho, especially with such a big Tortilla. Rating 1-10 Tortilla 9 Cheese 4(needs flavor) Beans 10 Overall Burrito 7 Quesadilla 6.5
Customer service is bad. First time going and I will not go back. My girlfriend asked the ingredients to the vegetarian burrito and could not hear all of the ingredients. When I asked them, I had to also tell them that I could not hear every single ingredient. When I asked a second time politely, a second employee got an attitude with us and sarcastically told us each ingredient slowly and loudly. She acted liked we were idiots. I apologized and told her I am sorry but I could not hear her. I still ordered my vegetarian and California Adobada . But by the time we got the burritos we were already disappointed. I would say the burritos are average . No part stands out especially as good or bad. Price is average. Cheese stands out slightly more. But the Adobada is nothing to write home about. Red sauce isn’t great . Can’t recommend this place to anyone. Cash only.

This is a fairly sized taco shop, with a standard menu of items. Prices are pretty fair, although it is cash only. Service was alright, nothing special. I decided on the breakfast burrito, which contains eggs, potato, rice, beans, cheese and bacon or ham. I was pretty disappointed by this burrito, it was very dry and the eggs were pretty overcooked. Their red salsa was also lacking in flavor and spice to say the least. Overall, this place just has low average food, but it's not somewhere I would want to revisit.
Took forever to get my burrito and they only take cash so added atm fee. My veggie burrito didn’t have beans in it which I have never experienced at any taco shop and it was small.
Cash only. Meat isn't that good, unless you like a little grizzle on the carne asada or fatty carnitas. Service, hahaha
I've been here only twice, but both times they've messed up my order. Very slow service compared to everywhere else. The food was good and their bathrooms are clean. They charged me 14$ for a bean and rice chimichanga that had no pico, no lettuce, no sour cream and no guac. I've ordered this hundreds of times all over San Diego county, but this is the only place that seems to have trouble inputting it into their register. This place is cash only, so add a 2$ ATM charge to your order if you don't have cash and they have no salsa bar🥲. Definitely have a lot they can improve on.

The California burrito was decent, but was dry. The fries inside and the tortilla were good. The meat was okay. Unfortunately they don’t seem to include any guacamole or sour cream to balance out the dryness. The cheese was good but unevenly distributed and not enough throughout the burrito. I tried both roja and verde sauces provided but unfortunately didn’t care for their taste to counter the dryness either.
Cash only at this place not very convenient its not like the food is cheaper paying cash. The food is good if youre used to eating at Mexican places like albertos not very great but it passes as Mexican food. I like quality and this place is not it.

They only take cash! That's absurd, the owners need to catch up with the times! Such an inconvenience.
This USED to be a great place for Mexican food. They had the best beans in town! Lately the food has been garbage!! Spent $60 yesterday - carne asda fries had hardly any meat the "American avcado was black!" The carne asda burrito, the meat was under cooked and had more avcado than meat! The (2) enchilada combination orders 1 cheese order and beef order were not properly cooked! The cheese was not melted food was cold!! And let me tell you about how disgusting the beans were!!!! Never in the 10 years that I've berm going here have I gotten such disgusting beans, did not taste at all like the chitos beans they usually serve! Their green salsa half of the time tastes like it's gone bad, but they don't want to make a fresh batch! Their prices have gone up and the quality and taste have gone down the drain!!! Definitely will never return here again! Chitos is complete trash now!!!
Rudest staff anywhere!! The girls that work there have NO class!
Place only accepts cash! Which is fine but the cashier had a very unpleasant attitude. Plus the parking sucks.
The food prices are ridiculous. For 3 rolled tacos, it was $6.50 + $1.25 for Mexican guacamole. On top of that, it's $3 for a medium soda and no free refills. This is the last time I am coming back.
This used to be one of my favorite places to go for carne asda nachos with beans. And their bean and cheese burritos. But lately, their quality has gone down the drain! Food tastes different, and they put less and less food. They charge different prices. One day, you can get something for $10.99, 3 days later, it's $12.99, a week later, it's back to $10.99 Oh, and if you pay extra to for add ons, they make sure to charge you for it, and then give you close to nothing of the add-on.
Just got the world’s smallest California burrito for 12$! I come here all the time and the food is usually great but whoever was working today just doesn’t care. Really hope they can improve on this. Looks like I’m not the only one getting skimped 🫤
I have been here before and it was good. Now they wont serve you unless you have cash. Wasted my time driving over and cant get served. Kinda pissed. And still hungry.
