Hungry Al's BBQ

Good food good service . I got one meat combo pulled pork with Mac and cheese and coleslaw.

Came up on Hungry Al's by accident and I'm glad we did. So many times I travel and see only the fast food stores on the side of the road. Al's is a hidden gem and only has flags out by the road to attract patrons. Upon arriving I immediately was able to see the smoker and grills along with hard wood and it smelled like heaven. Indoor and outdoor seating in a covered area and music throughout the whole store make it very welcoming. A simple menu of BBQ staples and sides is written on a dry erase board and the prices are very reasonable. The pulled pork is amazing and the BBQ beans were the same. I think if you have the moment they offer far better food and better prices than fast food.

The service is happy and energetic. The flavors are amazing. You can see the smoker when you come in the gate. It's huge and creating the finest flavors into the Brisket, Tri Tip, Pulled pork, and Chicken. The food gets a hold of you, from the first bite. The sides complement the meat. From the Mac N Cheese, BBQ and Chili beans, slaw, fries, and more. It's all great. Plus, in you want fish, then you need to munch down on the Fish Tacos. They will have you coming back for more, and more. It's just north of Gorman off the I-5, at exit 205, up about 1/4 mile, on the right. A cross the road from the trucker's parking lot of the Flying J truck stop. Just look for the Orange building, with a drawing of Hungry Al on it.

The best place to eat BBQ in town. The brisket is unbelievable, also the Tri-Tip was awesome. The people are nice, the place is really cozy. The service is also great. A must place to go!

Great place for lunch. Very cute little building with multiple TVs that were showing football on Sunday. Very friendly and attentive staff. Brisket+baked beans were the best I’ve ever had. Though we tried a bit of almost everything and it was all excellent.

Stopped here on the way back from Mt. Pinos, the food was great. I got the brisket and trip tip sandwich and it was delicious. I am definitely coming back for more!

Such a great little pit stop, authentic American bbq made from scratch with homemade sides like potato salad, coleslaw and Mac and cheese. We actually met Al himself who is 71 and gets up at 2.30am every morning to make the bbq, the service was so friendly, I highly recommend this as an alternative to the endless fast food options when travelling in the USA.

BOMB!!! The Tri tip was so tender and juice and full of flavor a MUST STOP!! potato salad was also perfect, my husband loved the pull pork and bbq beans and my picky eater loved the tri tip slider. Customer service was also very good the girl in the register was really friendly and helpful

I had to work out here in Lebec and Frazier Park, it smelled so good I had to stop in! I ordered the pull pork, chili and the Man n cheese. I really recommend it, it was delicious and the service was amazing!! Great new find, will be stopping in when I’m out here!!

What great place ate here at 6pm cool atmosphere 😎 great food only 2 small complaints one couldn't tell if open or not took a chance and walked here hoping open the were maybe some lights anything something that says open alot of drivers throught was closed and think the ran out of cash flow when it comes to decorations in bathroom lol like going into another world all WHITE .... just a idea paint them orange and black idk but food great think would get more business if could show open

Found this place on our way to Santa Rosa from LA and we are so glad we did! Everything tasted amazing and the people were very friendly. The place was clean the atmosphere was great!!!!

Found our way in and it was pleasantly nice inside and on the patio area. I ordered pulled pork sandwich with Mac. Sat down outside and we were served in no time. I'll start with the sandwich, it was a b grade good sandwich. But one thing is undeniable, the Mac is to die for. I will be back on my way out of LA. Great service on the lunch hour. Thank you. Keep up the hard work.

The food here was top-tier -- my husband found this place in yelp and I'm so glad we gave it a chance. The pork ribs were the star of show, while the mac and cheese with the baked beans paired well with everything and tasted great! We felt very welcomed here with the friendly service and enjoyed sitting at the outside tables out in the sun. 10/10 recommend if you're looking for a quick and delicious meal on your next road trip.

Dying to go back and try the pulled pork. Healthy portions, friendly service, I wouldn’t hate going there to watch a college football or NFL game.

Wanted a place to stop that wasn't fast food and stumbled across Hungry Al's. The food was great and the bathrooms were sparkling clean. I got the I-5 Mac n cheese with tri tip and it was amazing. Soft, tender meat on top of very yummy mac n cheese (some of the best I've had from a BBQ joint). Wife and kiddo had the pulled pork, which was also outstanding. We've bookmarked them for future drives!

Food is good, I like how the bbq beans had a cinnamon/nutmeg taste to it. Never had anything like it. Pork ribs were a hit. Mac & cheese had tons of flavor.

Stopped here on our way to our CA destination from AZ today. Wow. I am sad that we missed the brisket - it was sold out by the time we arrived but if the tri-tip and pork ribs are any indication -- it was legendary. Our plate combos were outstanding. Full of juicy flavor and sauce. I loved the mac and cheese as my side and the potato salad is quite buildable in flavor from everything else on the plate. It does have celery in it, if you're allergic. What a great spot near the highway. If coming back through here next year, we may just have to stop back in and revisit! Wish I'd gotten to get the brisket. Definitely add it to your travel stop for some delicious protein & carbs! :)

This is a group review, from myself, and "The Four Ladies"! My wife, her sister and two cousins had intended to go to Harris Ranch, but opted to try this spot out. And boy, did they choose well! I wasn't with them, but Al sent me a little something so I wouldn't miss out... The Brisket and Tri-tip are to die for! The gals actually saved me some! Not overly covered with sauce, but packed with flavor all by themselves! I usually don't get pork ribs, unless they're babybacks, because most places over do them and they're dried out. Al's pork ribs are fall off the bone goodness!!!! Again, like the beef cuts, not overly covered in sauce, moist, and freakin' tasty!!! The hot links had a mild kick to me, and I think most could handle the heat. As for the sides the gals said the Mac, and potato, salads were light and tangy. Not over dressed, but flavorful.... The Mac n Cheese is very popular, and sold out.... The gals say the atmosphere is warm and inviting, and Al takes time to come out, from the back, and say "hi" to his customers.... The place is super CLEAN too! This spot is a must stop, while visiting the area or traveling back south from the Bay area...

Me and my co-worker was looking for a local restaurant in Lebec since we always pass by once a month, and to my surprise, we found a local restaurant that surpass my expectations, the I-5 mac n cheese with tri tip was almost 100% perfect as well as the chicken bbq... all worth it

This place is the real deal. Walking up i could smell the pit smoker, I knew it was going to be good. The hot links were the best I've ever had. The people that run the place are amazing.

Pretty good bbq joint, had the brisket and pulled pork with Mac and slaw. Cant give five stars because I got smoked on the price; $35 with a soft drink 😅

Instead of buying the trip-tip platter which is $26 get the tri-tip sandwich. It’s nearly the same amount of meat for only $17. It comes on a massive roll with one side. Overall good, but nothing overly special.

I really wanted this to blow me away given the reviews, but I walked away with thoughts that 'this was good, but not great'. Had the Tri-tip, beans, macncheese. Tri-tip was a little tougher than I was expected but overall good (also was hoping for more given the $24 price). MacNCheese was delish. Beans honestly tasted like canned Pork and Beans...I mean they are good but nothing you can't get from the store. The staff was very pleasant and the place definitely gives the hometown/welcoming vibe.

Everyone really enjoyed it and look forward to stopping by again on a future trip. Had one snafu where they accidentally overcharged us, charging us for single item combos instead of for the loaded mac, but they were able to get that voided out and corrected the charge. The employee that was helping us said she was new, and only had been working there for 5 days so probably just a simple mistake. She was very helpful, clearly explaining the menu, what was available, and made sure we had plenty of napkins, utensils, and cold water to go. They also had nice clean restrooms, so overall a great place to stop for a bite to eat.

Ribs are great but the rib portions were a bit small. Still worth coming back to try other items in the menu.

Was truly hoping for something special but was unfortunately disappointed. Lunch for 4 adults was over $110, not including tip. Very small portions. Pulled pork was dry and flavorless. Needed a lot of BBQ sauce. Mac & cheese was bland. Small dinner roll was fresh and good. Friends said beans and cole slaw was okay. I totally get that food prices are high but we did not get enough food for a meal or for the price. Stopped at the store for snacks. Sorry, can’t recommend and won’t be returning.

Finally made it in to Hungry Al's BBQ after a day at Gorman dirt biking. I read some of the reviews and was eager to give them a try. Naturally I went for a typical bbq staple and ordered the ribs. I was pretty bummed when the food arrived, as I only received 3 small ribs, a scoop of coleslaw, and a small bowl of mac and cheese, which was the best part of the meal. The ribs were tough and had been sitting under a heat lamp for goodness knows how long. It seems they lathered them with fresh bbq sauce before they served them, but that didn't help much. If the ribs are no good, it's not a bbq joint. Even my friend who joined me for dinner was shocked when he saw my plate and asked if I was going to say something after paying close to $30. Only reason I'm posting is that other reviews are coming through saying the same thing and I hope that management reads these reviews and fix whatever went wrong between the good reviews and the new ones. My 1 star rating was based on customer service , small portions , lack of combo plates , and undercooked potatoes 🥔, I would not recommend this place save your money $$$ .mark my words this business will close in a year or 2 because of poor management and lack options for the customer a d the overpriced small portions . I will post videos and pics and they no longer serve brisket

I was overcharged and given the wrong change twice, the girl could not do simple math , bill was $31.37 she gave $4.53 Which was wrong the she stated that was an error she was reading the credit price , which is higher, but I paid in cash then I asked for the correct change and a receipt. I look at the receipt and the change . IT was $1.26 short again . I don't know if she was trying to see how much she could get without me noticing it or she was just high or on something or just not all there 🤔.
