Amazing friendly service, absolutely delicious food, very resonably priced. So good we went 3 times in a 10 night Madeira holiday!

Fantastic restaurant! Food and flavors are wonderful, many vegan and vegetarian options and the service is superb. We had dinner there three times during our holiday. Would recommend this to everyone! The current name is Mezze Grill by the way.

Spotted the Mezze Grill as we walked round looking for interesting eats. After we were nicely seated, service was quick and efficient. A nice selection of grilled and BBQ meats and fish. I didn't spot the Moroccan lamb shank special till we had already order but it looks great. Maybe another time 👍😊

We visited Funchal in April 2023 and stumbled upon this restaurant. What a gem! The food was incredible- we returned a second time and could easily have visited more often. The food is cooked on the grill in front of you and is absolutely delicious. I had the lamb chops the first time and the chicken kebabs the second time. Mouthwatering and cooked to perfection. The portions were just right. We will definitely go back. As for the staff- wonderful! They were so friendly and we came away with recommendations for trips and places to visit.

Chicken dumplings were amazing. Pork ribs and the pork dumplings were really satisfying. We took the Hot mezze to share and it went well with wine and we were quite happy with it.

Hidden Gem! We were checking out another restaurant in the area and they only took reservations and didn’t have any vegetarian food options. Next door is Mezze Grill and many of their non-meat options are vegetarian or vegan. Such a perfect place for us. Jennifer was so welcoming and helpful with all of our questions about the island. The service here was awesome and the food was incredible. Their cold mezze plate was a delight to the palate and the vegetarian moussaka was delicious. We finished our meal by sampling their Turkish baklava. Accompanying our meal we had a delicious Portuguese Rosé. Wow! I can’t recommend this place more. You should really check it out.

The main reason we visited was because the waiter assured us the meat was halal. The waiter went above and beyond to make sure everyone felt welcome, inviting conversations and encouraging tables to engage with each other. Food was cooker withing eyesight of our seats. The aroma in the restaurant has us salivating from the moment we walked in the door. The food was cooked to perfection, the presentation was clean and professional. Would definitely return.

Great vales for money. Amazing personable service. Wonderful veggie and vegan options (most options I've seen in one place that isn't pasta/pizza). Was such a great overall experience we went back two night running (on our last nights). Fabulous tzaski, made with coconut milk so dairy free and delicious!

Amazing food and great service! The kebabs were juicy, the hummus was fresh, and the atmosphere was cozy. Definitely coming back!

This place saved the day. We arrived in Madeira after a loooong day travelling and not having eaten for 8 hours. Our hotel kitchen was shut for the evening and offered no snacks or even hot drinks and everywhere was shut till 7pm. The MEZZE GRILL, however, was open and the food was DELICIOUS!! Starter - cold Mezze - super variety of dishes, flavoursome and served quickly - thank goodness! The highlight was the lamb shank which tasted fragrant and was the perfect portion size for starving travellers. Surely too full for dessert now but we HAD to have the Baklava - that absolutely did fill the final corner! A perfectly sized portion delicately spiced and served with a creamy ice cream dollop. Excellent service, welcoming and QUICK! Fantastic! We'll be back - after we've walked all the calories off! By 7pm this place was full so get in early or book.

We had a fabulous evening here .. greeted very warmly and shown to our requested table. Drinks order taken and delivered swiftly. The menu is not large, but this is not a ‘fast food’ place, all food cooked to order and grilled right in front of you- we opted for sea bream, lamb chops and lamb shawarma, followed by baklava😋. The staff were very attentive throughout the meal. House white wine very good. All in all a lovely evening with great atmosphere.

An excellent and convenient location with good ambience and very helpful staffs. The food and drinks are of good quality only if the hot food was served on heated plates. Our food tasted delicious but lost its heat rapidly as it was served on very cold plates. The price is very reasonable and they don’t add service charge! However, one is pleased to add gratuity at discretion after exceptional service.

The service we could not fault, our waiter was speedy and very friendly 😀. For starters we had bread with dip which we thought was simple but delicious and Borek (feta filled filo pastry with honey) that was also tasty! For mains we had chicken shish kebab, beef shish kebab and mixed grill (which is definitely value for money!) All the meat was perfect to everyone's liking! Thanks to the chef 🫶🏼 The environment was lovely and chilled, playing traditional Greek music and wasn't too busy. Towards the end of the night we were offered Madeiran wine to take as a shot with information on where the wine is made on the island (again hats off to the waiter!)

We indulged in a mixed grill gyro, lamb special, and hot mezze, all of which were generously portioned and expertly cooked on an open fire at the front of the restaurant. The staff was exceptionally warm and friendly, taking the time to explain menu items with genuine enthusiasm. The overall atmosphere was incredibly homey and pleasant, making our dining experience truly enjoyable. I can't speak highly enough of this place – it's a must-visit!

Just had a lovely meal at Mezze Grill. We ordered chicken Shish and lamb kofta. Both meals were cooked in front of our eyes on a charcoal grill. The food was delicious at a reasonable price. The manager, who waited on us, was extremely friendly and helpful. We even got a free Madeiran wine at the end of the meal. Can’t fault it. Would highly recommend.

Ze hebben een eenvoudige menukaart met kwalitatief goede gerechten. Deze worden op een open grill voorin het restaurant gemaakt (geeft een leuk authentiek sfeertje). De bediening is super aardig en gastvrij!

I was rather disappointed with this establishment. The restaurant itself looks nice well decorated. Staff was quite attentive, starters were great but my main course was a bit of a let down. I had chicken (wouldn’t recommend) my wife had lamb chops which were great and my son had lamb kofte, again which was very tasty.

This place is a partially halal. It's pretty place to grab dinner from, just don't get what I did. 👀 I got the lamb shawarma which was underwhelming. It came on a flatbread which tasted undercooked and super buttery, not what I was expecting because the waiter said all mains came with rice and salad. 🤦🏽‍♀️ The lamb was tender, flavoursome but quite rich, it needed a zesty salad to help. The radish and tomatoes were sparse, it needed more to help cut through the richness. The cauliflower puree was nice, it was like a hummus but only added to the richness. My meal was disappointing but if I was in Madeira again, I'd probably go back to try something else.

After a pretty good first impression with an initially friendly waiter, it took a turn for the worse when we got our cold mezze which was very small, rather bland and didn‘t come with enough bread / pita. We tried to ask the waiter for more bread but he ignored us for a few minutes and then finally said „just a second“ and just forgot about us. The main dishes weren‘t really good either, small portions and just pretty mediocre in general. We were all disappointed and wouldn‘t recommend this place.

Went last night. I had the veggie moussaka with rice and my husband had the mixed grill. The moussaka was OK, it would have been tastier with meat! The mixed grill was 5 small pieces of meat, which were overcooked, and chips. Really disappointing for the money. We told the waiter we were still hungry so he offered us more chips! Go to Restaurante Terrace D'Ajuda instead. They do a lovely 3 course meal, with lots of options, for the same price as a main course here, and you're stuffed when you leave!

Disgusting and disappointing. We ordered the cold mezze: 1. Tsatziki was in bad condition, sour. 2. Hummus was just smashed chickpeas with lemon. No tahini, no olive oil. 3. Disgusting black olives, Heinz beans?!, Russian salad?!, and plain couscous. We also ordered: - Falafels: bought from the frozen section of a supermarket, hard like biscuits with, again, tsatziki sauce in bad condition. - Borek: again, deep-frozen like Chinese spring rolls. We did not finish it, as the picture shows, and I felt sick just after leaving the place. Luckily portions were very small, otherwise I would’ve been vomiting all night long. We went for vegetarian options, I really hope the meaty options are not such a scam for tourists. I lived in Berlin were Turkish food is kind of local food, and this place is anything but Turkish.

We came here as the menu outside said vegan moussaka and cold mezze including vegan tzatziki however after receiving the cold mezze and questioning it, the chef confirmed they no longer use coconut yoghurt for the tzatziki and the moussaka has cows cheese. Thankfully we don’t have dairy allergies. The mushroom shawarma was quite nice, nothing to write home about. The waiter was originally helpful and friendly however not apologetic or showing any intention to change the incorrect labelling. PS the falafel is sad, don’t bother

Some of the worst food that I had in my life! The meat was chewy and dry, the sides were spongy and just overall bad. While the staff were really nice and professional, I wouldn’t be able to rate this any higher due to extremely poor quality of the food. Compliments to the chef 🤭

Ich würde gerne Null Sterne geben. Auf der Karte vor der Tür alles soweit übersichtlich. Ich finde Falafel und freue mich. Mit Tzatziki. Hm. Interessante Kombination. Bestelle ich. Der bleichgesichtige Mensch, der das Personal im Laden unangenehm scheucht, kommt noch einmal vorbei und fragt ob ich wirklich Falafel essen will. Ja, will ich. Was ich serviert bekomme ist so unglaublich gruselig, dass ich vor Schreck vergessen habe, ein Foto zu machen: fünf mickrige geschmacksneutrale Kügelchen auf einem rechteckigen Teller mit einer Olive, die in einem Stück Karotte steckt und einer Scheibe Gurke darunter. Dazu eine mit sehr viel Essig versetzte Mayonnaise in einer kleinen Schale. Wow. DAS ist mit Abstand das mickrigste Essen, das mir je angeboten wurde. Elend. Einfach nur elend. Meine arabischen Nachbarn zu Hause in Berlin würden den Laden auslachen. Funfact: der Teil der Karte mit alkoholischen Getränken ist 3x so umfangreich wie die Essen-Auswahl. Eindeutig keine Empfehlung.

They said no they wouldn’t be able to do this for us, so we ordered the beef shish kebab and the chicken shish kebab separately as well as the cold mezze. The cold mezze arrived in minuscule dishes and did not taste anything like the actual dishes are supposed to taste like. The pita bread that it was served with was uncooked in the middle. The chicken looked okay from the outside but it tasted like the chicken had gone off, there was a strong bad taste which I had never tasted before. After one bite, we had to spit it out into the tissue. The beef was overcooked (chewy and tough). The only item we enjoyed was the sweet potato. I’ve never been to a restaurant and had such a bad food experience before. I would avoid, even if you’re desperate for halal food as it’s not worth it!
