Some of the most unique flavor profiles you will find in Northern California. This place stands out of the crowd with a diverse menu of brews in a great location. Definitely a must go to place in Grass Valley!
We had the Bonde, Tommyknocker, fried chicken sandwich, BBQ Chipotle wings, and smashburger sliders. Everything was fantastic! Service was amazing. The atmosphere was great. This place makes me wish I lived in Grass Valley. We'll make this a regular stop whenever we get come this way. So good!
This place is awesome! The beer, the food and most of all; the people. By people I mean, not only the staff (you all rock!), but everyone who goes there. It is really in my humble opinion an integral part of the GV community.
so happy I stopped by this brewery, I love ipa's and these were amazing. along with some of the other beers I'm usually not a fan of yours but I was pleasantly surprised by the choices they had here.
Great! ❤️ Surprising Choices of Bar food; sliders, Wings, BLT were excellent. Local feel. Very good value. Nice, accommodating staff. WOULD SUGGEST to friends!
Wonderful people, good beer and comfortable space to hang out. They also have a kitchen in their brewery that seems to be a different business but it's pretty good too. Standard pub type food. Atmosphere is pleasent and seating is great. Their honey wheat beer was a pleasant surprise.
A phenomenal spot with tasty brews and friendly staff. We really enjoyed the Grateful Haze and Brunswick Blonde. Food from the Roost kitchen inside of the brewery was excellent as well (the burger and the fried chicken were both top notch)
It’s the basics but they do it well! I happy to see they are now doing the food in house and not a sub-restaurant with different hours and service. This restaurant and brewery is part of the new Grass Valley vibe
Where else can you go with your gluten free sweetie and enjoy beer on tap and a fried chicken sandwich? This place is a gem!!
UPDATE: We were in today and unfortunately they took the thai chicken sandwich off the menu. Really a bummer, it was the best thing on the menu and really set them apart from all the other barfood in town. We had the bratworst and the cauliflower again and they were still good. The new GV Brewery Kitchen kicked off today with their new menu and it is a must try. We had the toastie, which was an excellent mix of heirloom tomatoes, basil, balsamic and olive oil on a toasted Bread, the fired chicken sandwich which was phenomenal. Thai spices, pork rind breading, vinegar slaw, I ate all of it . It was crispy, but moist, flavorful, just literally stupid good. Also we had the cauliflower wings and my husband had the beer brat which were flavorful, crispy, just done really well. I know this place has seen alot of turnover this past year or so, but we are ready to make this a full time commitment.
Cool little brewery AND the best part is they have a gluten free beer! Ok yes, I’m one of those people😉The Brunswick Blonde is a great tasting ale. I love to take people here because there is really something for everyone. GVB shares space with A little cafe to get some delicious food to along side your beer.
Good downtown location and good beer selection. They also serve cider and kombucha from local breweries. Recently they have started serving their own food which has been tasty. If you are visiting the area, they have a decent selection of swag with the Grass Valley name. Don’t miss the weekly trivia night!
Don't give many 5 star ratings, but my experience today was great. Beautiful atmosphere, excellent burger. Great service. Now, this isn't a fast food joint. Come in relax and enjoy. Plan on an hour or more. It's worth your time.
I love the brewery and their beer, wine, Cider, and other drink options. Update: one Eleven kitchen is finally gone! Gv brew has taken on the kitchen for themselves and are now serving reasonably priced classics. I've added some photos of the menu for everyone to see. This is the place to go if you're in downtown and would like to just sit and hang out with a beer. They also have local, live music regularly with posters all over the place with the schedule.
This review is for 4 trips over a week during a stay in the area. Better food, and better beer than other options. Kitchen is consistently wonderful, and at its worst, good. Compared to the other local brewery, more care is put into the offerings, both food and brew. We had the Toasties the first time, delightful house made bread with heirloom tomatoes and balsamic with other ingredients that made the appetizer both with tasty and filling. Second trip we had the caprese salad, unconventionally presented but delicious and fresh with both peaches and heirlooms. It works. Well. Third trip we had the hummus plate, which, at $12, will fill the bellies of two seniors when beer is added. Lots of veggies and the right amount of dip, slightly spicy. The pita was spot on and warm. Fourth, we had both the Thai salad and the bratwurst sandwich with sweet potato fries. The Thai salad didn’t pop - not enough flavor to carry it. The bratwurst sandwich was really good (a tasty pretzel bun with relish, kraut and brown mustard) but the sweet potato waffle fries spent about a minute too long in the fryer. They were still tasty, and we ate them all. Great staff, nice space, nothing but excellent service, nothing but friendly and welcoming. Remembered us the second time in. Highly recommended from two food and beer snobs. After long days of hiking, we didn’t consider any other options for refreshment.
Today was our first time visiting GV Brewing Co. It was good service, the staff was nice, the atmosphere was great, there was a big selection of drinks (and not only beer) & the Roost food we ordered was delicious! We will definitely be going back regularly.
You got to come to this place! The atmosphere is very welcoming. Their Pale Ale is my new favorite. Can't wait to see the restaurant open. Look forward to my next visit and hopefully with good old GV friends.
My husband Randy and I love this brewery. My husband and two of his friends are homebrewers called "Triple Tap" and they were asked to do a collaboration with GV Brew. That collaboration beer "Angel's Smile" is there now for a limited time and is named after our daughter Morgan who passed recently. Beware...its a Belgian Quad and its 10.7% and it is very smooth. Thank you for this honor GV Brew! We love and appreciate all of you. (Pic is of Randy and our daughter-in-law Karla)
We Love GVBC. Delicious beers, new brews rotation, really good food. We just bought 2 [1/6 sixtel/5g] kegs for our kegerator, Long Tom Lager and American Amber. Super good, very reasonable pricing.
Love Grass Valley Brewing company. Have been about three times now and each visit is consistently amazing. The bartenders are great, the beer is phenomenal and the food is to die for. So far my partner and I have tried the burger and the fried chicken sandwich. Both are crafted so well and full of flavor. All around amazing atmosphere and definitely recommended. They also offer growlers to go which I used as a Christmas gift for a friend.
Had a great time here. Beer didn’t knock my socks off or get me taking crowlers home but was very drinkable. Food is damn good. We had the elk bratwurst and it was even better than expected: unique meat but not “gamey” at all. Waffle fries were very crispy. Their ranch is really, really good. Service is very good. Not sure if they do it every day but they had live music during the daytime and the dude was dropping the jams. Good times all around.

I love going here. They have good service, good beer, a nice sitting area with outdoor, dog friendly areas, and outdoor heaters. It's a great place to go grab a beer. They also have events during the week like trivia night every other Thursday. The events get crowded, so if you're planning on going, come early. The only real downside is the restaurants they've put in place. The first was Roost which was really heavy food. Now they have the 111 Grill or something like that and while their food is tasty for the most part, they are really expensive. I'm talking $12 for fries expensive. They do have some healthier options, like a salad, but it's still expensive at $8 for a small pile of spinach. Update: they have a new self - owned eatery in place which I have not tried , but the smells are very good. Will update again once I have tried them.
Food and beer fantastic! The FORKS are currently undermining the delicious cuisine the kitchen is delivering. Holding them feels just as likely to cut my finger as deliver the noms to my mouth. Great spot! Obviously forks not even close to a dealbreaker, just a rounding out improvement towards 5 stars!
Great beer and food. The food is a walk up window in a shared space with the brewery and taproom. They were out of the pasties and bahnmi sandwiches, which was a bummer, but the excellent fried chicken and best corn bread in the world made up for it. Now for the beer, the reason you came! I had a strong ale which was so good i ordered another. My family ordered a coffee stout and a porter, both of which were excellent. My sis who is not a beer person availed herself of one of the many flavored ciders they had from a can. There was a beer engine for serving case ale, but nothing was on cask or you know I would have ordered that. The bartender was attentive and very nice. Seating is fancy picnic benches, casual but effective. Loved this spot, wish I could have gone back.
Good beer variety, cheerful bartenders, warm, dog friendly tap room. Food is expensive ($40 for 10 pieces of chicken) and unseasoned. 4/17/2021 8:45pm Great beer, hummus, wings. 2/3rds empty! 4/22/2023 Small Town Brown just ran out. Western states Stout in CO2 still pouring.
Nice casual lunch environment, nice staff. Plenty of room for three families. Good food!
Nice, friendly brewery with good beer selection from light to dark brews and solid kitchen menu. Would love to see pretzel, sausages, potatoes skins or some other typical beer-supporting dishes, but it has a pretty good variety. Spacious indoor, and street-side outdoor seating.
Nice little place, very friendly staff. The Roost food service is a seperate entity in the same building, but they obviously work together. The tables in the brewhouse have clips to tie up your doggies. We had the Patsies; beef and fixings wrapped in a fried dough, very good. Would recommend this place to others.
You absolutely must try the deep fried mushrooms and chipotle aioli. I also had a ceasar wrap that was really tasty. My man had a pepperoni pizza. Fast service. No waitress here, order at the bar. The head chef Kenny is a super guy!
Distance measures in place, masks not mandatory. Good beer selection and decent food. The Pollo de Diablo hot wing challenge was well worth the 6 bucks. Delicious sauce and some tingly heat to boot! Prices down since opening, so up one star from my first review a year ago. Parking is still a hassle, but can be had.
What is not to like...excellent selection of beers and literal hole in the wall food establishment has some excellent vitals. We came in after a hike and enjoyed some good beer and food. The heaters in the brew room was a nice touch since it was pretty cold outside. Plenty of distractions from checking out the decorations, brew tanks, TV's and some good old fashioned people watching. After a few pints this gets better. Staff was very friendly and had some good suggestions for our non beer drinker...weird.

Picked up a flight here and was satisfied with hit. Most of the beer was good, but there was an IPA that I just really didn't like and opted to not finish. The other beer was solid. The Hazy IPA was the standout for both the wife and I, so I'd get that if I go back for sure.

I brought my friends here after a glowing review on the way. I used to love this place but I’m not sure what happened. My friends and I ordered food and beers but they were all underwhelming. The burger I ordered was over cooked and crunched when I bit into it. The fries were hard (not crispy) and the wings were average at best. When I closed my tab, the bartender seemed annoyed and tossed the pen and check on the bar before walking away. It could’ve just been a bad day but we were fairly dissatisfied.
The food was good but a bit expensive. And the restaurant was very very cold.
The beer wasn't sour, but the service was. My girlfriend and I enjoyed the selection of cold beers, but the same cannot be said about the cold service. The 40-something sandy blonde bar tender was quite unpleasant. Hospitality and good service are underrated.
Solid 3 stars across the board for me. Beers are pretty good and consistently so but nothing too exciting and many of them taste the same. Staff are pretty good, food is okay, atmosphere is better than some other local bars but lacks character. The “new” in-house kitchen is also okay, fairly standard but not consistent with quality so it’s hit and miss if you order the same thing twice you may or may not get the same quality, and the prices just went up while the quality went down. The girl at the restaurant counter was clearly annoyed by anyone who wanted to actually order anything. I’d recommend going almost anywhere else in town unless you just really want a trivia night or are in the mood for some bad karaoke.
Whoop. Deep pockets sliced this piece of heaven off the GV streetscape. I had the red on tap. The tendress kindly offered me a taste first — and we agreed — this is the best Irish red on tap EVER (so far). My plate of hummus was a 10. Why can’t I give GVBC at 4 or 5? Hmmm...maybe it’s a bit out of place on a Main Street of Nevada County & better placed in Sanoma or such. But I suppose these are the days that are coming... and I’d bet I’ll learn to embrace the rushing tide soon ‘nuff. Lacey is super cool btw.
Organic food, hamburgers aren’t 100% grass fed, but are from Nieman Ranch. Salad size was a bit chintzy, including their wine pours. Great place to hang out. They could work on their ambient noise a bit, was there on a nice warm late summer evening and they had the fans blowing at full speed that didn’t give it that nice relaxing space it could have been.
Stopped by this past weekend. Staff were friendly. My husband liked his beer. We ordered lunch...wings, a blt, onion rings and bbq bacon burger. I struggle to eat out sometimes as I can't eat dairy. I usually order whatever vegan option is available but this place had none. Figured the blt would be the safest bet. Turns out, they butter the bread. We did find that out as we ordered and they kept if off. The blt is just okay. There is a lemon aioli on it which is weird. The sweet potato fries were just okay as well. My son loved the wings. They are huge! My husband liked his burger. I tried the bbq sauce...its really sweet. Overall, just an okay place in my opinion. I probably wouldn't return.
After reading all the great reviews, I had high expectations. The beer was good. The staff was good. The atmosphere was good. There wasn't any wow factors. A pool table, darts, board games or live music would keep the customers there longer. The flight of beers I had, tasted the same. The flavors need to be more pronounced. Also, It would have been nice if the staff tried to engage in a conversation with the customers. It would have made a difference. This is an okay date spot. On the plus side, there's plenty to do in the Grass Valley area. IG: SACRAMENTOHONEY

Me and two of my brothers came in after a long day hiking Lake Spalding and the associated trails. I thought we should give Nevada County our business so we looked up places and found GVBC. The associates were very friendly however everything was over cooked besides the wings they were running out of. We started with the Thai Chili wings since they told us they only had one order left. The wings were plain, and cold. Next our main orders came out. We ordered 3 brew bugers: medium rare, medium well, and well done. The burgers were all over cooked, over salted and not put together at all. Each of our hamburgers buns fell apart after first bite, they were so dry. There were over sized slices of red onion and they stuffed it with romaine lettuce. The only thing besides their service that I enjoyed was the beer. Turn this into a Bar please. Food is not their forte.
Update to the owner: Thanks for the additional information regarding your dog policy. Signage at the entry door clearly states no dogs so it’s really unfortunate this policy appendage was not included on or near the same sign. As a first time customer I feel had that information been apparent it would have enhanced my overall visit. With regard to the street side seating, I am speaking from my own personal experience and not all customers. During my visit I did notice about 95% of customers were either seated indoors or in the shaded brewery side. I recommend sitting in the street-side section only during cooler evening hours and after afternoon rush hour. As for the beer I purchased, perhaps better said would be that it was okay, I just found it wasn’t worth the out-of-the-way drive. Visiting the area for a few days and thought I would check out a couple local breweries. I decided to visit GVBC despite it was 18 miles round trip out of my way. One of the reasons I came here was because of several reviews on how they are dog friendly. However, when I walked up to the door I immediately notice a sign posted: No dogs and other pets allowed. It seems there are many different interpretations of dog friendly. Normally I would have just turned and left but because I drove so far out of my way I decided to have one beer and then leave. So my faithful companion and I sat outside in the 90° heat under the covered area right next to the busy street taking in the carbon fumes and continual street noise. Beer was just okay. Got kind of a weird vibe from the staff person pouring. Overall this visit was a fail. Glad it’s over. Facility seemed to be handicap accessible although I did not see handicap parking within close proximity. Closest I saw was near City Hall. Parking in general was extremely difficult.
Beer has gone seriously downhill!! Ordered an Iliad IPA and a Grateful Haze at the bar but when the beer-tender sat them down, they looked exactly the same! We asked which one was "hazy" (both were clear) and even he could not remember. Once it got straightened out, they both tasted eerily similar which was NOT good! Flat on the palette and devoid of any hop flavors whatsoever. Have been coming here since it opened but Im not planning to return just for the beer anymore. My old "go-to" was the Lightening Mikes but they haven't had it in recent memory. The owners need to please fix whatever is going on with your brewing because your beer now sucks - something has gone terribly wrong!! Everything else there "ok", food is fine but not worth a special trip, atmosphere is pretty cool - they allow dogs if that is something that attracts you or turns you off. Far better beer in Nevada City @ 3 Forks or go to Auburn and take your pick between Knee Deep, Moonraker or Crooked Lane.

My husband, his brother and a friend were enjoying some beers and catching up, my husband saw someone had ordered nachos and asked the hostess politely if he could get an order. She checked with the kitchen and eventually were told yes he ordered and paid and the nachos got to their table. About 10 minutes later the owner came out accusing him of being disrespectful and used disrespectful language. My husband very politely said that he did no such thing and the owners told him that if he ever spoke to his staff that way he would be kicked out. This accusation ruined the meal and eventually everyone walked out. This is ridiculous of a local company to come out and accuse people and make a scene in their restaurant without hearing out both sides. We will never be returning along with all of our families.
I ordered a kids grilled cheese with american cheese for my daughter. When it came, it had a three cheese blend instead. She is picky and won’t eat it without the creamy cheese So I walked up to the ordering counter and showed them the sandwich. I asked very nicely if they can please make another one with American cheese since that is what I ordered. The girl (who was sporting a huge black eye) at the counter told me that there was American cheese in the sandwich and refused to make another one. When I insisted that I ordered a grilled cheese with ONLY American cheese, all she said was I’m not going to argue with you about it. She was really rude and stared at me blankly like I was pestering her. I had to buy another sandwich, ordering the exact same thing that I ordered the first time, and sat there and waited 20 minutes. I walked up to the window to ask about it to which they handed me a cold sandwich. It has been a long time since I’ve seen such disregard any customer satisfaction whatsoever. They did not go out of their way to accommodate, insisting they were right, and in the end, served something inedible.
I would have given zero stars and this is only based on a really upsetting encounter i just overheard on the phone from the owner. My brother has struggled with addiction, mental health issues and homelessness. The owner of Fletchers auto glass has been gracious enough to let my brother do work to keep his nose out of trouble and keep him busy and in a good head space. My brother was weedeating out back and some rocks hit some cars by gv brewing comp yesterday. Now, I get that. Its dangerous and a good talking to is necessary. But what I heard was the OWNER of gv brewing co come over to the business my brother was at and say "who hired the tweaker?" Then start screaming at my brother. The only words out of my brothers mouth were "sorry sir, I apologize sir, yes sir." And was still getting yelled at. I'm not even going to lie, my heart sunk to my stomach. I understand the owners frustrations but that just showed me he has the emotional intelligence of a toddler and that was not the way to handle it. To do better, you have to be better. Such a bummer because I really like gv brewing co. But if thats how we approach issues and speak to people by making them feel small, ill take my business elsewhere. Live and let live.
My husband and I had been regulars from the first day GVBC opened and we really used to love this place. The staff was outstanding. The beers were wonderful. The food at the Roost... Meh but hey... there's plenty of other places to eat in town so we always just skipped the food. But I swear, ever since Jason and Jack left, this place has gone downhill. The beers have all changed. The staff has all changed. And not for the better on either. No one greets you like you're appreciated anymore. We were in for probably our last visit a couple of weeks ago and saw people going in and out without masks, the girl at the bar was rude and the tables were dirty. Employees don't smile anymore and honestly, the place seemed like a completely different place. The wonderful vibe we used to enjoy there is gone. What a shame. GVBC used to be our go to spot.
