We spent a weekend with friends in the hills. Our friends invited us to this historic restaurant; they hosted their wedding reception there years ago. Francesco, the owner, is a big man who definitely doesn't mince his words. Here, I saw for the first time what was once meant by "bruschetta di carne" (meat pounding). He literally punches the meat with a cloth wrapped around his hand and a ribbed cutting board underneath it! The meat becomes even more tender. The tasting menu is excellent and incredibly generous: 6 appetizers (bruschetta, egg, zucchini and parmesan salad, cotechino with fondue), 2 first courses (fresh gnocchi with butter and sage, and 3 roast ravioli), and 2 second courses (sliced beef and roast beef). I couldn't finish the 3 desserts (bonnet, mint pudding, and I can't remember). Unfortunately, a few days after our dinner, we learned of Mr. Francesco's passing. It will remain a unique place; we sincerely hope someone will pass on its entire history.
We had lunch here on Sunday... a timeless place, an enchanting location, and impeccable service. Generous portions, with the option of seconds or even thirds! Everything was delicious, from the tartare to the delicate Piedmontese fried fish, to the bonet. We loved the owner! We hope to return before he retires.
I've known the restaurant for years. They serve a fantastic Piedmontese set menu with a wide selection, including a divine Fassona beef tartare. The wine selection is also excellent, and the meal ends with a grappa made by Francesco. Yesterday I finally took advantage of the "albergotto" (little hotel). It has rooms near the restaurant, and about 100 meters away, studio apartments with all the comforts: a bathtub and shower, a kitchenette, a dishwasher, air conditioning, mosquito nets, private covered parking, a fireplace, and a breathtaking view.
Nestled in the hills, stunning views. The food is excellent (the gnocchi were amazing), all homemade!!! Excellent wines and fair prices. The bungalow is equipped with everything you need (kitchenette, mini fridge with small freezer compartment, and air conditioning). We spent 2 days with friends and they made us feel right at home. The owner is wonderful and helpful, as is the staff. We will definitely be back.
We chose it at random from a hotel with a pool. It was the right choice; we stayed in independent houses with spectacular views of the valley. The interior of the house was fully equipped, with a kitchenette (not used), a large bathroom, a comfortable bed, and air conditioning (we didn't need it) for an extra fee. We had dinner in their restaurant; everything was spectacular, from the appetizers to the grappa. Breakfast was plentiful and with excellent ingredients. Mr. Francesco was an excellent host.
Excellent
very friendly, clean room and delicious food! they even made a excellent vegan menu with lots of love ;) !
The ambiance could use a bit of a makeover, but the cuisine deserves applause for both its authenticity and deliciousness. Not to mention the service, performed with care and skill by Commander Francesco, who, with his trolley serves each course at the table with the watchful eye of a good family man. The menu isn't endless, but it's pleasant in its simplicity. In short, I fell in love with this place, and even though they don't give anything away, I wholeheartedly recommend it.
Excellent, professional and friendly. Finishing touche with complimentary Grappa.
Absolutely divine, great culinary experience of traditional dishes from Piemonte, try the local Grignolino wine
This restaurant serves a 9 course meal with regional and seasonal ingredients. You don't order something specific you just get what has been prepared that day. We had 4 different antipasti, tortellini, spaghetti, meat with potatoes, caramel cake, ice cream and coffee (All was made by hand from the owner). Wine was also inclusive and this costs per person only 35 Euro. It was hands down one of the best meals I had in a long time. The owner and staff were warm and welcoming and even though we don't speak Italian we were able to communicate fine.
We had a wonderful dinner here with excellent local dishes and good wine. As a reviewer below states, you get about 11 courses for £35 and it’s all excellent! Hosts are generous and served their food with pride. Highly recommended
In the Summer of 2009 my wife and I visited the Ristorante Natalina thinking that we just wanted a "normal" meal in the evening - but after we had enjoyed the Landlords great cooking with 10 different dishes - we left with a smile on our faces and with a feeling of totally happiness!! So - if you are in the neighbourhood of ristorante natalina ... go to the place and take the daily menu and you will enjoy and relax. Kind regards Jeanette and Peter Bach - Copenhagen, Denmark
Cosy place serving regional food, great hosts, hospitality at it's best
There is no menu at this restaurant - the food just starts arriving. We counted 11 courses - all seasonal local ingredients. The food was cooked with love and served with pride. We felt that Francesco really wanted us to have a good time and enjoy our meal. It was a lovely experience & very good value - our bill came to around €35 per person (not including wine).
We had dinner at this restaurant, nice, family-friendly, very trattoria-style. There's no menu where you can choose, but that's the menu; they bring the dishes to your table, and you pay for what you consume. It's a shame that if you only wanted two items, perhaps from the bottom of the menu, you'd have to wait for everyone else to finish the previous courses. If you want a quick dinner, no. We arrived at 8:30 pm, and at 10 pm we were still on the first course. The gnocchi were good, but only 6-7 gnocchi. So we decided to finish dinner, otherwise we'd have finished who knows how late for the other first course and the two second courses. They recommended the wine, which was excellent, but we weren't told the price—surprise. I'm attaching a menu. If we'd eaten everything, it would have been €45 per person, including coffee. But this was our dinner: 2 Fassona beef steaks (measure a circle made with your thumb and forefinger), 1 spumone with salad (same thing), and half a cheese (tomino) with sausage (2 4cm pieces). Small portions. 2 gnocchi (6-7 gnocchi), 1 bottle of Chardonnay, 2 coffees, and 2 liqueurs, plus one on the house—or so we were told. Dinner total: €70. We love eating out, we do it every week, and we have no problem paying, but there has to be a fair compromise. We pointed this out when we got the bill, received an annoyed response, and a €10 discount as a bonus. Positive notes: Good food and wine. Negative: Too long a wait and incorrect bill.
Just returned from an overnight stay... Excellent location. Nice pool. Welcoming rooms, but the electrical and plumbing systems need updating. Excellent food. At dinner (a bit frugal), the owner scolded us at the first toast we made for the friend who brought us here. Poor breakfast, limited croissants. Great Potential, Untapped
Ok
Beware of the service. Excellent restaurateurs, but poor hospitality. The cabins have a comfortable bed and uncomfortable sofas. Terrible pillows. Be careful if you're a family. If you add children, they'll double the price of the room. I wouldn't recommend it. The pool is rated one star or less. Addendum to the answer: it's true, there were 15 of us guests who spent a total of about €1,500 (few receipts were seen). We left our room keys between 10:00 and 12:00. We drank 3 liters of tap water and didn't put away the deckchairs. Of course, when he was there (as you liked to remind me), the gypsies were interned in the camps...
