Incredible service: incredibly fast and the staff were genuinely friendly. The flavors are the real deal; they truly reminded me of India. Attention to detail: They even serve water in two different types of glasses for the table so you never mix yours up with someone else’s! If you're visiting, you have to try these: Paper Masala Dosa: Perfectly crispy and absolutely bursting with flavor. Gunpowder Masala Dosa: Hits Goldilocks zone of spice—it’s appropriately spicy without losing the complex flavors of the blend. Highly recommended for anyone craving an authentic Indian experience
SO YUMMY! I love this place. Such good food and good vibes! A new staple to my restaurant rotation. Though be careful if you are sensitive to spice. The food is so delicious and flavorful
Wow. If I wasn’t in such a food coma I would write how delicious this place was, but just know that the few words I have typed have so much passion in them. Amazing food. Got the number 34 appetizer, I got the cheese and onion chili masala dosa, and my boyfriend got the Paneer Pondicherry Masala Dosa. My first time trying dosas and I loved it.
Always a great experience! Our go to place for whenever we want comfort food. One of the best south Indian food restaurants in the country. Very reasonable prices and friendly staff.
Absolutely loved the South Indian spread here. The dosa was crisp and perfectly roasted, the medu vada had the ideal soft-inside/crispy-outside texture, and the sambhar complemented it beautifully. All dosas were unique, and made with fresh ingredients. Great taste, good portion sizes, and worth every penny. Definitely recommend for dosa lovers
Got an app the Gobi was my husband's favorite sweet/spicy very balanced. The combo platter (photo) is way more food than it looks. Great for a couple with a kid. Great taste. Nice staff answer all the "whats this mean?" menu questions. The delivery needs work on accuracy.
Tried this place recently & it did not disappoint. A large menu consisting of vegetarian South Indian food. I love South Indian food and it was about time I went out and had me some. A place I drive by a lot called Chennai Dosa in Hicksville, Long Island. Today was the day we checked it out. We ordered Podi Iddly, veggie cutlets & batata vada for appetizers. Then we got vegetable biryani, palak paneer, masala dosa, mushroom/onion/garlic Uttapam, Chennai rava masala dosa, roti, mango Lassi & Chennai coffee. Chill spot & delicious South Indian food. Burst of flavors with all their dishes while not being overly salty. I loved my Mango Lassi which was thick and sweet. My dosa was huge! Like it would not end. It was perfectly crisp & flavorful. They have a parking lot which is great. Staff is very attentive & helpful. The ambiance is nice and casual and also very clean. I highly recommend everybody to try their Palak Paneer. It was so delicious with fresh paneer cubes mixed in.
Received a gift certificate for Christmas. First time coming here and it was delicious. Wasn't sure how my fiancée would feel about going to a vegetarian restaurant but he enjoyed it as well. Love trying new foods.
I had the best South Indian food along with Dosa with Sambar near by. The atmosphere is just like a hotel in Chennai. The staff Satish, Naveen were very friendly in guiding the Menu. Will come again for the Sambar with Vada, Dosa & Idli. The Manager Karan was good maintaining the atmosphere calm.
I was very excited to try this place as I’ve never come across kosher authentic Indian food before. I didn’t love the samosas as by the time I received my order they were a soggy mess, I think it would have been wiser to keep the toppings separate for a takeaway meal. However, I really enjoyed the rest of the food. The saag paneer was something I’ve always wanted to try and it was delicious. The cauliflower tikka messala was very good too. Very reasonable prices was well. I would definitely go back again to try more things
Delicious Dosa at “Chennai Dosas” Restaurant. When it comes to satisfying a craving for Indian food 🥘 on Long Island, I think we can all agree that Hicksville has become the epicenter for this flavorful cuisine. Today, I was in the mood for a Dosa, 🥞 ( a fried crepe that is stuffed and rolled with a variety of 🥗 and spices 🌿 ) for lunch. One of my favorite places for a large variety of Dosas 🥞is “Chennai Dosas” located small strip center on Broadway in Hicksville. I ordered the number 57. Paneer🧀 Pondicherry Masala Dosa. A spicy 🌶️ crepe🥞 rolled with potato🥔, paneer🧀, onions🧅, peas 🫛,and aromatic spices 🌿The Dosas are all served with 3 types of dipping chutneys: a coconut 🥥 chutney, Sangar: a spicy 🌶️ lentil chutney broth 🥣 with green peppers 🫑, onions 🧅, and a red pepper 🌶️ chutney…each with very different flavors. I also ordered a side of Poppadum ( a lightly fried lentil floured tortilla of sorts) which was light, crisp and delicious. It goes great with the sweet tamarind sauce that accompanied it. Chennai Dosas is an authentic vegetarian Indian restaurant that has gotten strong reviews from Newsday 📖 and The New York Times 📖. It is modest in decor with a very attentive staff and prices 💸 that are soooo reasonable. When you want to expand your food horizons, give Chennai Dosas a try. And if you need help when ordering, don’t be Afraid to ask for assistance. See the menu 📕 in the pics below. Give it a try & Enjoy your journey.
GREAT FOR DOSAS!! Hands down the best restaurant for idlis, dosas and wadas in the neighborhood. The sambar is perfect and mildly spiced. The chutneys are good too. We were here after a long drive from the Bronx zoo. The traffic delayed our lunch and by the time we reached here it was 5 PM. I place an order of mutter mushroom with roti. The roti was dry and burnt. Definitely the dough was not prepared well. I gave them an honest feedback and they didn’t charge me for the rotis. My husband loved the kuzhambu. Portion size was good that we got the gravies for another meal. The service can get better for sure. We had to ask for water as we waited for more than 5 minutes.
Decent place for Indian food. Service was pretty quick. Gobi Manchurian was not crispy and was tasting funky with excess vinegar I believe. Bhel puri was good Dosa was alright as well.
Food is amazing here. I ordered the Pondicherry and Gobi manchurian well done. I just had an issue with one thing, it was 4 of us plus a 2 year old. They pre-charged 18% gratuity which I dont care that they did its their policy, but When i looked at the check i said “oh the tip is included “ the guy said no its a service charge you can leave tip cash, I wasn’t okay with that. You should not lie to the customer. I worked in a restaurant for 8+ years and service fee is the tip. I left extra anyway cause they were very attentive. But that just wasn’t right.
I told them I was allergic to nuts, and they fed me nuts. When ordering the food, my husband and I told them I was allergic to nuts. When the food arrived, I started reacting almost immediately and asked again if it had nuts. Spanish curly-haired waiter came back and told me the food had peanuts, which I have anaphylaxis to. I had literally taken the safety off my EpiPen when the waiter came back and said that the food had cashews, not peanuts, and therefore “there are no nuts in the food.” What waiter doesn’t understand that cashews are a type of nut?? Manager and waiter did not seem at all concerned about the situation. They brought out a new dish and then tried to charge me for it at the end, but I told them I wasn’t paying for that, considering they had basically poisoned me. My husband and I barely ate anything because we were both so nauseous—me from eating a few bites of food I was allergic to, and him from sprinting to buy allergy medication at a nearby pharmacy right after a medical appointment where he was told to “take things easy.” I don’t think the waiter who actually took our food out apologized at all, even though he is responsible for feeding me something I’m very allergic to. The food itself was great, and the guy working at the counter was extremely nice to us and very apologetic, which is why I’m not giving this place one star. But they are extremely irresponsible about allergies and won’t comp your food if they literally poison you. My husband and I were seconds away from leaving in an ambulance.
Reviews not justified!!! Food isn’t half good as it looks. Gobi Manchurian: I’m from Bangalore, from the land of the best Gobi Manchurian. What I had here was somewhat Chinese Manchurian- it was just fired cauliflower in a store bought sweet and tangy sauce. Chennai Thali: Okayish, coconut chutney was good. Idly dosa decent. Uttappam under cooked. Potato masala in the dosa had gone stale. Vada was good. South Indian Thali: Where’s the Aviyal?? Served a bhindi sabji instead of Aviyal. Cabbage porial was drowning in oil. Sambar, Rasam & payasam were good. All in all very very disappointing food. But the service was very good!!
Incomplete order and zero attention to detail. Half the components of the dish were missing—no Masala and no chutney. It’s not a Dosa meal if you only send the bread. Won't be ordering again."
We just had a family dinner at Chennai dosas on Christmas Eve. The Spanish guy with curly hairs has a very rude attitude and he is so disrespectful to us all the time. He was continuously arguing with the Manager as well. manager is a very nice decent man, always take care of us. But the Spanish waiter ruined our family day get together . Will never come back to Chennai dosas until they remove the curly hair guy from the service
