Tip: Bring cash, as it's a cash-only establishment. Consider ordering veggies on the side if you're not eating the sandwich immediately to prevent it from getting soggy.

Tried #25 bun suong tom noodle soup. It’s good. Usually we just buy the grilled pork sandwiches which are super good. Price is still better than other places but the Vietnamese sandwiches are the best here!
Hands down literally the best pho & banh mi in all of Houston!
Don Café is a Houston staple that I’ve been coming to for years. The bánh mì is always on point—crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and packed with flavor. Their wonton noodle soup is comforting and delicious every time. And don’t miss the Vietnamese coffee—it packs a powerful punch and gives you that perfect energy boost. Whether you're grabbing a quick lunch or craving something familiar, this spot always delivers.
Craving a lunchtime sandwich fix, I knew exactly where to go: the dependable Don Cafe on Bellaire Blvd. Usually, their BBQ Pork Sandwich hits the spot, but this time I opted for the adventurous route and tried their Special Sandwich. It was a delicious gamble that paid off! The food, as always, was fantastic. Highly recommend Don Cafe for anyone seeking a quick and tasty bite.
Food was visibly fresh & prepared sandwiches in front of you which is always nice when a restaurant has the made-to-order option.😀 yum. This was my first time here and I was impressed with the FOOD & TOTAL! My boyfriend and his friend love these Vietnamese sandwiches here! 🥪 it was busy but you didn't have to wait no more than 10 minutes at most. Worth the money $& wait. I drank an iced coffee, comes black and it was a little sweet (which is good) & surprisingly strong (also a plus)! Definitely trying the ph@ next time. -must try -quick bite OR -dine-inn -clean & courteous -delicious authentic Vietnamese food
After eating Bánh mì in so many places from Pearland and Sugar Land to Katy, I began to wonder why I haven’t tried many in Bellaire. I guess I’m usually focused on other Vietnamese foods when in the area. Shoutout to David Lu on YouTube for giving the inspiration to check out some Bellaire bánh mì shops. After hopping in the car and taking the twenty minute drive, I arrived at Don’s, I walked in and it was busy and alive with action. I started for the counter and a young man politely stopped me and asked if I was eating there or to go. I decided to eat in there to catch the vibe. He showed me to a table. Every time I’m in Bellaire, I’m taking the opportunity to practice my Vietnamese. So while ordering my sandwiches, with a combination of Vietnamese, Spanish and English, I ordered a Bánh Mì Bò Nướng and a Bánh Mì Đặc Biệt. Both of these bánh mì were excellent. The bread tasted fresh and was crispy on the outside and so soft on the inside. It’s one of the best baguettes I’ve had so far. The meats in both were delicious. The Bò Nướng was tender and packed with flavor. The Đặc Biệt was excellent as well, with all the meats tasting fresh and flavorful. The Vietnamese mayo and veggies combined for a creamy crunchy inside that satisfied my desire for complex simplicity. After devouring the first two, I decided I should get a couple more for the road. I wanted the Bánh Mì Cà Tuna but I was informed they were out of Tuna. No problem. I ordered another Bánh Mì Bò Nướng and Bánh Mì Gà Xé. In retrospect, I should have gotten either the Bánh Mì Pâté or Bánh Mì Xíu Mại. Next time for sure along with a ca phê sữa đá. I heard its strong here and that’s how I like it. One last note on the service. I thought for the amount of people coming in and actually eating in there , the waiter did very well. He was polite and efficient. The cashier seemed polite as well, although very busy with all the to go orders coming in. The people behind the counter seemed to be very good at making the bánh mì quickly and efficiently. I was surprised to see some negative reviews later when I looked it up. I’m not a regular (yet) but I didn’t notice any issues at all, while I was there. The food was great , the service was good and the vibe was cool. I enjoyed seeing the mix of diverse cultures in there while I was eating. From the Vietnamese and Mexican/Central American staff to the 80’s tunes like Journey playing over the speaker, it was truly a mix of culture and cuisine in the heart of the city. I’m always impressed to see Vietnamese cuisine and culture be introduced to new audiences and I thought Don Cafe was doing that really well that evening.
They have the best bread here!! Food is always consistent and everything on the menu is good. They are cash only.
I have been coming to Don Cafe ever since I was a kid with my family. This is my go to spot whenever I am craving a banh mi. I do not eat pork so I always get the barbecue beef and it is really goo…
I asked my friend to take me to the best place for banh mi and Don Cafe is where she took me. Their bread is made fresh and their banh mi is light and perfect. I got the traditional cold cut banh m…
I was here a few times during CoVid19 restaurant restrictions in 2020, because I can’t find any Vietnamese sandwiches around. Then, I fell in love with Don’s cafe. The banh mi sandwiches are bigg…
Don Café is one of those restaurants that we always come by when we visit Houston. Usually order a few banh mi to go to bring back home and always hits. They are cash only. Sometimes service can take a while because they are often very busy so don’t expect to grab and go. It’s located on Bellaire and there’s plenty of parking.

I love this place! Definitely a good place to hit after a late Saturday night. The only downside to this place is that they only take cash. Other than that 10/10 food and service!
Updating my review to 3.5 stars because prices are almost double now (not complaining!) but they do not include pate in the combo sandwiches anymore and skimp heavily on the butter :( my sandwiches…

I stopped by Don's around 4 pm for a quick snack and picked up a siu mai banh mi, now priced at $5.75. I remember when it used to be just $2, how times have changed. The Hispanic cashier recognized…

Food was good. clean restaurant. Pretty good customer service. I'll try it again. The menu looks tasty. I'll be here again.
The quality of food is not longer the same, banhmy less meet, vermicelli dishes are full of noodles, but only two small pcs of chicken. You have loss loyal customers today.
Been here many times and thought it was mid every time. My wife and I got a couple of bahn mi’s to go. They’re good for the price. I got the shaking beef which was light on meat. My wife ordered number 14 which she said was just average. It’s a value place if that’s what’s important to you.

Banh mi and pho were both very mediocre and did not taste very good. Banh mi bbq pork meat was tough and pickled carrots weren't juicy enough. Felt like a waste of a meal in Bellaire/Chinatown for …

The first two times I have been here were good, but today was my third time and it was not as good. The soup noodles didn’t taste good this time, and there was also hair in the bean sprouts. The next plate of bean sprouts also had hair, so I got a third plate of bean sprouts. It also took a while for the food to come out today and I had to order at the counter since no one came to the table. Also most of the workers do not speak English.
Banh mi was crunchy and sharp but meat was like shoe rubber. The soups and pho come with almost no noodles and the waiters did not serve us waters our whole visit, after asking 3-4 times.

I ordered a special combination banh mi for lunch, and I suffered a bad stomach virus and vomit afterwards. Also, the amount of ingredients in the banh mi had decreased significantly. The Hispanic guy needs to work on his customer service skills by not yelling to the customers in a rude manner. I will not be coming back anymore.
On recent visits, I have noticed that the quality of the sandwiches has declined. They lack the crunch and flavor that previously distinguished this establishment. It was once considered the best Vietnamese sandwich place in town. It is essential that the restaurant restores its former standards; otherwise, its new reputation might diminish this legacy.
pâté is $1 extra added to the bánh mì menu prices & must be requested when ordering to be sure you get upcharged. previously, pâté was always included in their bánh mì w/o an upcharge or modification. if they want an extra $, increase it in the menu prices & keep the ingredients unchanged
Bad Service, Does not own up to mistakes! This place has gone down hill since the change in ownership. No longer Vietnamese owned. But that’s okay, as long as they do a good job and provide quality food and service, I’m always down to continue being a customer. However this place has a huge problem of making mistakes with orders and not owning up to it. 3 out of the 5 times I’ve been here the past few years, they’ve gotten my order wrong. The past two times I left it as is because I’m fine with trying something new, but this time I really didn’t want to eat what they had mistakenly given me. So I went to the counter and clarified that I didn’t get what I ordered. And guess what? Instead of apologizing, they kept telling me I was the one who ordered wrong. He would not recognize his mistake and kept ignoring me. It wasn’t until the manager came that I got a replacement made. Even then, the manager was extremely rude and dismissive towards me. Funny enough, the two people behind me in line also had wrong orders and wanted a remake. Customer service is a huge part of owning a business. Own up to your mistakes and if you don’t want to then don’t keep making repeated mistakes. Repeat the orders back to the customers before checking out, clarify anything you don’t understand, ask for help from coworkers when you need to. There’s plenty of ways to avoid and fix mistakes but it seems the employees here weren’t trained how to.
****AWFUL EXPERIENCE! ****Do NOT expect any kind of customer service here from the staff. We arrived at 5:50pm and ordered 4 sandwiches. They told us that they were only serving “to-go,” which seemed strange considering their hours posted on the door said they were open till 7pm. When we saw the restaurant was full and people kept sitting down, we also decided to quickly eat our sandwiches at the table before heading out. Promptly, the manager, Julio, came to our table to asked us to leave. He said that he and his staff wanted to leave early and that only people entering the restaurant before 6pm could stay. In complete shock and disbelief of what was happening, we tried to reason and argue that we came in before 6pm and that their hours were clearly posted as open till 7pm on the door as well as online. Julio, literally stood at the table arguing and then silently staring at us as we tried to eat, making my kids and I super uncomfortable. He the. threatening to call the police for us not leaving and my children cried from the embarrassment and overall experience. Julio, Your poor lack of choices today lost a great customer and hopefully your owners see this and take action before other customers turn their back on this establishment, like we will for life. You can’t treat people like this long before the public realizes that there are simply many other options nearby with kind staff that value their customers and their business. If you hate your job this much, maybe it’s time for a life change, rather than treating people with such disrespect. Our best wishes to you, we will never speak of this place to anybody again.
