Great Mexican Meat Market and Taqueria off Washington. Great Selection and Fast Service.
The tacos be smacking, love going there, excellent food
Always great food you can't find elsewhere.
Best tacos de fajita in town hands down! Barbacoa breakfast tacos are greasy good too!
Great place.. good food
Great breakfast tacos
You get not go wrong, the lunch is great, great beef choices all around and the marinade beef is great
Great prices. Also has a small market full of all the Mexican groceries I like.
Great breakfast tacos. They load them up!
Great Tacos. A little pricey but i think all prices have went up do to covid

The food is sooo gooooddd. You should eat at this places man so good
Great food great service they need more locations of El Tiempo Taqueria
Nice place super good meat
Delicious tacos!! We go all the time for breakfast or lunch tacos
Great tacos and fast service
Truly a traditional Mexican meat market with fresh steam table food for quick breakfast, lunch and dinner take out. This place is fresh, hot and ready, it does not get any better city wide. Awesome mesquite grilled beef and chicken fajitas with all the sides. Freshly rolled corn and flour tortillas. Great take out options for parties as we have done many times. This family meat market is the real deal! JC
I have been working in the area almost 2 years and I visit El Tiempo Taqueria at least twice per week. The tacos and tortas are great. I really enjoy the Piccadillo and the Chicken Fajita. For the torta I always get the Beef Fajita. They have a big stock of beverages and carry pretty much everything. El Tiempo Taqueria also is a small grocery store carrying fresh produce and sell different meats. The cashiers are always sweet and welcoming. Lisette is wonderful. I really appreciate your hospitality. Y’all can’t forget to try some of their fresh baked breads. They are authentic and delicious. ************************************* So over the last two months they appear to have brought over, I’m guessing, a head chef from Tony Mandola’s Gulf Coast restaurant. He has amped up their taco line and enhanced the menu. There are rotating specials throughout the week like before. But they are of higher quality at the same good price. The tacos are great. I am appreciative of their business! Thank you El Tiempo!
This used to be a Matamoros market many years ago. I guess El Tiempo purchased the location. I'm hoping they keep it as is and not make changes. Authentic flavors & atmosphere keep this a favorite spot. They load up the tacos so much you can make 3 with extra tortillas.
This place is amazing! not only is it a small grocery store but it's a Taqueria as well. With some of the best tacos you ever eat in Houston. Tortillas are made fresh everyday!
The food we ordered was last minute just b4 they were closing and they still were very nice a patient. The tortillas were home made and the food was so fresh and delicious. Gonna go back for sure. Just like home
Tacos are amazing 😋. They always give HUGE servings of meat per taco. The staff are very friendly, helpful and kind.
Really convenient grocery store. They have a decent selection of fresh produce, Mexican products, dairy, and eggs. They have interesting random products also. Their tortillas are so much better than the ones from the grocery store. You can buy a dozen raw tortillas and cook them yourself too. I love their aguas frescas. They usually have four flavors like cantaloupe and horchata. It gets busy at breakfast and lunch, but their breakfast tacos are cheap and delicious. The people are very nice here.
Always amazing tacos. Pro tip: if you go a little later in the day they give you more because they are trying to get rid of it! Always get extra tortillas.
Even though it's a meat market, their hot food section is amazing!! Tacos are delicious and set at a good price. I would recommend their chicken tacos and agua frescas.
I always come n buy tacos or menudo for me n my coworkers 😄 we love this place 😘😘
Very good service excellent food and the only place you can buy a real fajitas o arracheras out side skirt
Very good for the hot and ready tacos, fantastic for any at home fajita needs. Great selection of produce and even better selection of meats.
This taqueria has one of the best fajitas in town, tortillas hand made, their tortas, they have a nice selection of different stews, and their prices are decent,
Excellent lunches at very low prices.
The most amazing place to get tacos, they are packed with meet and homemade tortillas, can't get any better than that.
Great neighborhood shop with all the essentials. Taqueria serves great breakfast tacos. Highly recommended.
Tacos are delicious a little price but delicious portions are giant if you have breakfast here you are not hungry till 3pm
Truly one of my favorite breakfast spots in the morning!!
Stopped by to get tacos for lunch and they were very good. They had about 6 different types of meats, rice, and beans. You could choose flour or corn tortillas. It was a little expensive for 5 tacos ($17) but they were super filled up with rice, beans, and meat. Didn't disappoint. We were able to sit inside and eat comfortably. Only 3 tables available but we were the only ones there so it was fine. Recommend.
Every time I've visited that location I'm greeted with smiling faces . Always well staffed and always clean . The food is always top notched . Most delicious tacos 🌮🌮, can't miss on any taco, they are always delicious. Best tasting tacos in the city🌮🌮🌮. Give the manager a pat on the back. You have a good crew ..🌮🌯🌮🌯🌮
A great local Bodega with a Taqueria up front. I should say it sells a lot more than tacos. Go there at lunchtime and push your way through the crowds of builders to see whats on offer. My wife made the mistake of ordering two burritos some while back and she could hardly carry them back home. Check it out!
One of the best places to get tacos in the city in my opinion. The staff is always super kind. Open before dawn. Perfect if you’re looking for excellent tacos, unlimited beverage options and light grocery shopping. Somehow better than the tacos at the restaurant across the street. Highly recommend!
Great variety of foods ! Been coming here for over 17 yrs the key is to come here early in the morning to get your food fresh before they get busy. ALSO FOR THE NEW FOLKS AROUND THIS AREA THIS IS A TAQUERIA NOT YOUR BOOGIE RESTAURANTS AROUND WASHINGTON AVE.
First of all I have never taken the time wtite a review to any place as I never really thought people read these reviews but after taking a look at the negative reviews mentioned about this place I thought I would need to .. so here goes my first .. I have visited this place a numerous amount of times, so many I lost count but I have always been impressed with the taste of the tacos here the flavor is always on point and I'm a person that likes quality so one of the other main reasons I continue to visit this place is that the tacos are always well served and very filling for the price .. also very important to me that the times I have visited this place it always looks clean and the manager there is always very helpful and always asking if anyone needs any help. Not to mention the times I have been and I'm in a rush they are always trying to be sure to keep the line moving as to make sure all are served in a timely manner. Very highly recommended .. and will continue to visit whenever in the area.
This Review is for the Taqueria, not the Cantina/Restaurant, they are different businesses, every time I'm around I like to stop by for breakfast tacos, they have the option of flour or corn tortillas, option that not many places have. In general breakfast food is good, authentic Mexican flavors, friendly service, you'll have to wait a little bit in the mornings since the taqueria is always busy, I haven't tried another time of the day but for breakfast, prices are reasonable.
Great place. Breakfast and lunch
Excellent food. Walk up style, fast service. Yes, everyone speaks Spanish. It's a Mexican taqueria. Very polite staff
My family and I absolutely love this place. You craving tacos and want to listen to goo music while eating? Come on down and grab some tacos. They have all kinds of meats for whatever you’re craving with great sides to go with it. They’re are so friendly and sweet. I will forever go here for some amazing tacos! The horchatas are also amazing here!
Best fajitas ever! And the green sauce is to die for. Their tortillas are life changing. There’s no place better!
Wen your soul is yelling you, we need a plate or taco with good rice and beans and whatever meat. This is your stop. I put a 5 star for service, cuz you are your service.
Very good food consistently doing it right here! The staff are the same people I've seen for years! I highly recommend this restaurant! 5 stars all the way!
Affordable, quick and delicious three words sought after, but slowly disappearing. fortunately at El Tiempo Taqueria they were fulfilled. I’m noticing a trend with the reviews on service or the employees trying to rush out of there before 4 PM, or tables being sticky, atmosphere being rundown… ETC But what I have to say, my first time going there in years. I was greeted by someone opening and holding a door for me, no line, hot food, clean tables with napkins and different sauces and a chef smiling in the kitchen while he was cleaning dishes. I truly believe that you need to go experience this in person because everything from the tortillas up was fresh . Reviews do not determine the reality of the restaurant. It felt like Mexico was cut out and stamped in Houston and I really appreciated that. This is not a paid review in any way, I just want affordable food to stay - for individuals that enjoy these kind of luxuries. :)
These are the BEST tacos in this area! I come here just about every morning to get breakfast or lunch 💕
My coworker brought me here for lunch and I bought tacos, must say for the price the food was really good and the tacos were extra stuffed
These guys are fantastic. The food is incredible. Rubin went the extra mile for us when we wanted chili relleno and they only offer on fridays and they were out. So He made especially just for us.
People are expecting way to much for eating at a carneceria. I have nothing negative to say as this is the place for some of the best tacos. They aren't stingy with the meats like everywhere else and the price is worth it. People complaining about the staff being rude, they're just working. Not everybody has to be your friend. Order your stuff and move along, this place gets super packed and they move it along very quickly. I've been coming here for years now and never have an issue. I guess you have to be a bit less boogie to appreciate this place. I recommend it, don't let others deter you.
Good place not been there for a while. Very clean big tacos love it
Menudo was not that good, not enough flavor Flower Tortillas are real good and coffe with cinnamon was excellent.
“I loved coming here after work, so upset that I had to find another taco spot to eat since it closes at 4 pm. “
Fast ordering, Good tacos, Good service I like that you can get in and out with your order. You get in line, look at the different dishes they have available, and place your order. I usually order three tacos, one fajita, one sausage, one carnitas or barbacoa. The salchicha (sausage) tacos are very good. They check me out and I can ask for cilantro, onion, lemon, and salsa. I can then pay pretty quickly and go on about my day. I usually get a mexican soda from the store and sometimes take some sweet bread to go home.
Fajitas > everything. Centrally located in washington avenue, surrounded by numerous bars and night spots. Green salsa is fantastic and the fajitas are delicious
Excellent street tacos. Really enjoys my tacos there. If your looking for authentic street tacos, with all the trimmings. This is the place to go.
The ordering process is a a bit complicated. There are no menus and you pay at the register across the store. Once you get a handle on that, the food is awesome. I had a fajita torta and my wife had a quesadilla. Both were great. The carnitas and all the meat looked fantastic. I can’t wait to go back. They also have a meat market with good looking stuff. I will have to check that out too.
It’s ok if you’re in a hurry. Each breakfast taco (huevo a la mexicana) is $3.24 plus taxes.
Went this morning for the breakfast tacos. Very very busy (great sign) ans very fast paced. It is obvious you need to know what you want or you will hold up the highly efficient process, but 1 big problem, NO MENU, NO pricing, NO signs on any of the food!! So when I finally got to where I could almost see the food qnd someone asked what I wanted, i asked what one thing was, but could not hear the answer then I just asked for bacon egg and cheese taco bc that is always my favorite anyways. I was told they were out bc they were moving on to lunch. When I responded "No bacon at 9am" on a Saturday, they said they could make it for me if I waited, this was the saving grace and why I am giving it 4 stars. I really appreciated it. I think they only had 2other egg options and a line for breakfast out the door. When we went back to get the bacon, egg and cheese they had made a small try and it was going fast :) The food: Very little bacon in it, but they did make it for me so I was happy I got it. fresh tortillas , very greasy which I usually hate, but honestly they were really good! The cheese was really good, and so was the portion size. My boyfriend got the carnitas and the flavor was amazing. The reason I am writing this review is to ask/beg the owners or managers to have some signage that tells the customers the option and prices, with COVID everyone has masks on behind the counter and you can not hear them even when you ask.
Good portions and food is decent. Tacos need a bit more seasoning but overall its good.
Sometimes, the flies can be out of control. Sucks if they are and you need to protect your food while you pay if you dine-in.
Food is top quality. I go for the tacos. The service can improve. The ladies working the cashier can sometimes have an attitude or seem too busy to even notice you. Not everyone but this particular short older lady is. Maybe she's just set in her ways and that's just her. Either way, she can be nicer.
A grocery store and a taqueria! Line moves slow but the food is worth the wait. The menudo was full of flavor and the meat was fresh. The barbacoa was so good, I had to get another piece. Our group had arrived a few minutes before the end of breakfast but they managed to whip up a fresh egg and potato plate for one. There is a wall with counter to eat your food or grab one of the bistro tables in the back. Plenty of fresh produce to buy as well. Very neat find on Washington, I am glad we stopped in.
I ordered online the taco Deluxe clearly says served w beans and rice when I got it was a tortilla with meat.I thought I had made a mistake when to the website menu and that's what it says I called just to make sure and they act like they didn't know what I was talking about. 🙃
Friends took us out to dinner tonight to celebrate our engagement and we had a great time. Our server was great, kept patting us on the back like we were his kids. It was very warming. The only criticism we have is the fajitas tasted like they had an overwhelming bbq flavor. Which is not how I remember it. The meat also took forever to chew. But either way everything else was great and such a special night.
Mask requirement sign at the door. But not enforced. I'll be back when it's not so crowded with hungry construction workers.
1st time guest. The tacos are some of the best in the area, but the service staff is Not friendly and had an attitude with me when I placed my order. I Don’t think I’ll be back.
It’s mind blowing that not many in this place speak English. That’s fine but at the very least I’d expect signs above the food with what the ingredients are…. Not everyone can eat pork. None of the employees know what’s in anything. It’s kind of embarrassing. I just can’t wrap my head how in the world is this place busy. I got my food ice cold.. empanadas should be hot. It only had cheese inside. It was the only thing the lady knew didn’t have pork. I just don’t understand how people can actually order anything with out a menu or words to describe what the food is…. I’m very upset this place is across the street from me and I can’t enjoy it because nobody knows anything and nobody can speak English besides the front desk people and it’s not always like that. If you speak Spanish I recommend but if you don’t I don’t know what to tell you good luck.
I ate at this location last Friday and was TOTALLY DISAPPOINTED with the QUALITY of the food. I ordered a beef/chicken fajita plate, with 1 side of shrimp, which came to my table with 2 strips of beef and 3 small strips of chicken and 1 overly seasoned shrimp, which I was forced to wipe off some of the cayene before I could eat it. The black beans came in a small tin bowl and was cold. Mid way through my meal I realized that I was missing the rice and when I asked the waiter about the rice he acted as if rice was a side dish. However, when I received the yellow rice, I was not impressed. This restaurant is not CHEAP and I expected much better than what I received. I STRONGLY encourage Mrs. Ninfa Laurenzo's son and grandson to suspend their expansion into more locations and focus on the QUALITY of the food at their existing restaurants, OTHERWISE, they may find themselves in the same over expansion demise of the original Ninfa's.
I looked online at the menu before coming here. They had two kinds of burritos. One was like $10 the other was like $12. I also wanted to try two other items. I asked for a menu when I got here so I wouldn't have get my phone out and get back to the website. They said they didn't have a menu. The only thing I remembered I wanted was a burrito so I asked how much it was. Both girls looked at me completely confused. Then one went to ask some other person. This took like 2-3 minutes. Finally they came back and said a burrito would be 13 something. I was assuming it would be the more expensive burrito I looked at (that was supposed to include avocados) and a bunch of other stuff. I then got my phone out and pulled up the menu and showed them the 3 meat plate. They initially tried to give me just 2 kinds of meat. I finally asked the one guy who spoke English and he told them to throw some sausage on top of the two meats (not the option I wanted but whatever). When I got home to eat the burrito I needed to use two hands as it was very greasy and falling apart. Inside was literally just meat and rice. They gave me sour cream and Jalapeños on the side (and some more rice). No salsa. I didn't ask because another customer told me they ran out ... Meat and rice isn't a $13 burrito. It was getting close to 4pm (they close at 4pm but online it says 8pm) so everyone was rushing as if the doors locked at 4pm or something. Usually it's corporate stores that are concerned with closing this precisely. Not sure why they don't just lock the doors at 4 and help who's inside without rushing. That all being said, the burrito was good (not great). El Rey's right down the street is $10 and much better. Also they stay open until like 12am or later. This place is good but the hours of operation are goofy, the prices are overpriced, and the online menu isn't accurate. The dude working there was really good besides rushing at the end. No need to rush customers. You're working 5-10 minutes after 4pm? Deal with it.
Taco were ok. Tortillas are raw and grainy, they had raw flour on them. As for the beef/meats they didn't have much flavor for my taste. I am glad I tried out this place. Most likely will not cost again. We give this a thumbs down.👎👎
Stopped in for a breakfast taco. I wasn't impressed. The tortilla was a bit hard. The eggs and potatoes were not fresh and a bit hard as if they reheated leftovers. The nopales were soggy and no flavor. The only thing I could actually taste were the beans. The concha was fluffy, but was too dense and didn't pull apart easily. There are better options on Washington.
Getting the food was fast but the food on the hotline was overcooked and greasy. It wasn't very appealing, especially for $4-$5 tacos. I don't recommend. The esthetics inside seem run down and the tables were sticky. No refills.
I hate to give a Ninfa's restaurant 2 stars, but my experience was so terrible today, I have to say something. I ordered the fajita pack, with my mouth watering, and also ordered extra tortillas, a flauta with no lettuce (which should have been served with tomato), extra green sauce, and extra grilled onions. Note that my fajitas were supposed to come with a grilled pepper, also, which is one of my favorite things at El Tiempo. The only thing that tasted like El Tiempo was the refried beans. The rice was pretty good too. The beans were not mashed enough, however, and lacked the smoothness I'm used to at El Tiempo restaurants. The flauta was good, if not completely greasy, which took away from my enjoyment of it, along with the fact that it was missing tomatoes. The fajitas were completely inedible. The beef was gristly, and almost impossible to chew. The chicken was so dry by appearance that I never even tried to eat them. Not only that, both kinds of meat had a weird pink hue to them. The grilled onions in the container with the meat were barely grilled (not cooked enough at all), and the extra grilled onions they gave me were sitting in some weird smelling brown juice, and didn't look fresh - as if they had taken the scraps that were thrown in the side of the grill and given them to me. I was missing red sauce completely, along with the grilled pepper. The only reason I didn't give it one star is because the other food was decent, and the green sauce was excellent. This may be a place to order breakfast tacos from, but I do NOT recommend the fajitas.
Paid for 18 tacos only got 14. Make sure to count your tacos before you leave. Didn't notice until i got home. Very upset 😡
Went to eat today but cashier rude not nice and kept walking around me and my wife, felt like she was spying on us other than that, food is great!
Went there to get some meat to grill over the weekend and the marinated chicken I bought was spoiled. This was my 1st and last time going there.
You ask for food they have at plain and they dont want to serve you to avoid wasting time slicing it. I thought that the client had to be first.
I think the food is way overpriced. Burrito was terrible. Tastes like a enchilada.
I been coming to this place for years, but ever since they hired the 2 lady’s serving. I will not be coming back. They are rude and obnoxious. They roll their eyes when people are ordering large orders. They are even rude to the rest of the employees working the grill. I hope the owner does something about this. The customer service of those 2 women is pitiful.
Ordered two tortas for delivery from here and while I understand that a stray bone might be mixed with the protein receiving 2 tortas with only bone in it and a deceptive amount of shredded chicken or carnitas is not acceptable. Secondly they sent stale bread.
Got some chicken to grill a week ago and the chicken was bad, I was wondering why the butcher had dip the chicken in the marinate sauce again after already being marinated. After cooking the meat it was crazy the amount of flies that wear surrounding the chicken. The only good thing was that I was able to take the food back and get my money back, and yes the supervisor was looking for a reason to blame the customer. By the way I happen to love El Tiempos Resturants always been a fan too bad I can't say the same for the meat market.
I was a regular customer of the el tiempo cantina taqueria until today I always bought a barbeque twice a week for the employees and they always give me salsa and tortillas today she told me sorry they ran out I told her can she give a packe she can't and talk the manager she said No, if you want to buy them or I will return the money, i spent between 100 and 120 per week, you preferred to lose a client for a packet of tortillas, I never came back.
I've never thought I would write a bad review until I went to El Tiempo Taqueria. 5.58 for 2 avocados, 28.00 for 2lb. Fajita meat.
I’ve been going to this location since it was matamoros meat market, and now the Taco prices are getting out of hand and now they charge an excessive amount for toppings that are included anywhere else, quality has gone down and prices have gone up.
Was treated rather rudely, took them more than 5 minutes to acknowledge i was even there. I didn't know if it was I was invisible, the company I work with or I don't speak Spanish, I don't know. I will not be returning.
We were incredibly disappointed with our recent visit to El Tiempo on Washington. After waiting 15 minutes without seeing our server, Nora, a busboy (whose name we sadly didn’t catch) kindly stepped in to take our drink orders. Throughout the evening, Nora only came to our table twice: once to take our order and once to deliver our last round of drinks. Her attitude was unfriendly and made us feel uncomfortable. Despite Nora’s lack of attentiveness, the busboy was wonderful and far more attentive than our actual server. When it came time to pay, Nora visibly saw our tip amount and, shockingly, asked, “Why not the other amount?” We were taken aback by her suggestion for a higher tip, considering the poor service. When we requested the manager, she hesitated, and we ultimately had to ask the busboy again for assistance; he promptly had the manager visit our table. Overall, we had hoped to try something new by coming here instead of our usual Goode Co., but unfortunately, this experience was far from what we expected.
Stopped In on a Thursday evening around 7 for a beverage and snack at the bar. Limited bar seating and overcrowded dining seating. Drink prices of five star restaurants in a 2 star joint. Wait staff indifferent to the egotistical customers. Don’t waste your time. There are so many places with better food and better vibe that you should support before going to this commercial rip off.
This place use to have a market that apparently closes at 4 now, which is very unfortunate cause not everyone has the opportunity or privilege to get off work by 4, and get fresh tortillas, salsas, and etc! I used to love coming after work and getting a fresh hot meal and having a conversation with the staff, now I gotta find a new place to do this, very disappointing. Not even a warning or anything, they just decided this over night?
Bad customer service and the tacos are not that great the lady’s serving them have attitude and to expensive for a breakfast taco almost 4 bucks and the tacos were all wet with grease and the beans make it worse the taco was falling apart the lady’s making them didn’t closed the taco right they made them with attitude I won’t be coming back here and they wanted tip to make it worse smh
Breakfast tacos are way too greasy. Salsa isn’t spicy at all.
Only give them one. Star service was good but for 3 tacos. And then I had to pay for the trimmings. Normally that comes with what you order and this place will not give it to you. You have to pay for it $15 for 3 tacos in just one small deal of Tomatoes dice onion and jalapeno
Got there 45 mins before closing and they were out of all the meats we wanted. The people working there were all cleaning and just focused on getting out of there at 4 pm sharp, not interested in helping customers. We left without ordering and will not be back.
Awful service. There were only three breakfast taco options despite it being first thing in the morning. The line workers were rude and unpleasant. No toppings for the breakfast tacos. One of the registers stopped working mid payment so we had to switch to a different register and the cashier mistakenly rang me up for 3 tacos instead of 4. After paying for the first amount- she then made me wait to the side, rang up the guy behind me and did some weird split payment between me and him. Long story short - I ended up overpaying for my food due to her error. They’re rude, their payment terminals don’t work and the cashier doesn’t know how to ring people up. Photo of receipt where you can see she charged two separate cards (one of which is not mine) I hope the owner reads this and takes the time to educate their employees on basic customer service and trains them to utilize the tools for their job properly.
