With all the new patio and deck bars opening within a 3 block radius I have grown to appreciate Big Star Bar a lot more. I have been going to Big Star as a last stop when coming back from Downtown or Midtown for over a decade and it never changes. Perfect dive/industry bar with solid cheap drinks and a large outdoor area. A perfect juxtaposition to the new "Patio bar" scene engulfing the area.

Friendly staff, helped to manage/keep eyes on someone who was lurking around my friends & I. Very good about enforcing masks, no one was aloud inside when I visited except to use the bathroom. The backyard is huge with fun lights. Great late night dive.

Ah, Big Star bar—the rightful king of dive bars. This is one of my favorite bars in the city. It's got all the charm and atmosphere of a dive without being dirty or rundown. Retro interior touches with neon lights, arcade machines, and an old pool table are great, and the outdoor area in the back is spacious yet cozy. Don't get me started on how great the prices are. Riddle me this: how did a friend and I go last weekend and have two Johnnie Walker Blacks, four beers, and a shot of whisky for $25? Because Big Star, that's why. Love the staff, too, and of course, the mascot and patron saint of the bar, the beloved cat, Ting Ting.

Best little dive bar in the Heights! Nice selection of beers and spirits poured by friendly, cultured bar staff. The jukebox runs the gamut from classic garage rock to rap to modern indie rock. Sprawling outside patio is perfect for large groups and smokers alike. Inside, the pool table, boxing game and photo booth will keep you entertained. A cozy neighborhood watering hole.

I go to the bar, they don't have karbach, mostly just sweet cidery sort of beers. Not my thing. If you want a place to drink lone star then this will treat you good on that front. I went to go pee and Rene the security guy was doing a bump of something, started shouting at me and cursing at me. Judging by some of the other reviews, this is regular behavior for him. As far as backyard bars go, I'm actually a bit let down on how LITTLE they've done with the backyard. It's really empty and there's Shady Acres just down the street and you'll have a much better experience there. Big Star was cool when there was no competition, but see, there is competition now.
