The restaurant might be dark, but the staff are bright & helpful and the food enlightening. Grated manchego sprinkled like snow on top of the Wagyu tartare adds that nice hint of saltiness. Beef fat in the hollandaise sauce…irresistible! Just wished there was a bigger scallop to soak up all that delicious sauce. The prawn schnitzel was crunchy and not oily or heavy. The maitake mushrooms w/the buckwheat had great textures & flavor but slightly too salty. Finally, you must save room for the donuts. I usually don’t crave mascarpone but adding rhubarb to balance the sweetness is genius. I wish the room was darker so I could like the bowl clean!

I went to eat at the darkroom for my birthday. The food was delicious. My favorite things were the burger, the carrots, and the Scallop tostada oh, and I can’t forget the Nashville hot honey swordfish. The service there was fantastic. The waiters were so kind and caring got to meet Zach and Drew the owners. They were both very kind caring people.

I love the vibe of the restaurant. They made a special birthday significant with their handwritten card and accommodations of the menu. I enjoyed every single dish. My favorite was the squash and the tuna tartar. The drink that wins is #68. I highly recommend this restaurant and to be honest it’s hard to find this kind of treatment and level of excellence in Orange County. I always have to drive to LA but this restaurant has character and is worth trying.

Very trendy spot. Definitely excited to go back again for dinner later in the fall and try out their fall dinner items . The decor and vibe is unique. Love the vinyl and the sound system . the service was great. the food and drinks were overall great but I didnt particularly like the fish snitzel . It could have been very well my expectations with it more than the quality of the dish because everything else was amazing . EDIT after second visit - Even better experience than the last time . Tried the smoked maitake dish and prawn snitzel, salad , zucchini bread and the semifredo dessert . All of them were amazing . The maitake reminds you of a texas bbq smokehouse but vegetarian? :)) .

Absolutely phenomenal food - flavors that are just out of this world. If you can get ahold of one of their burgers, do it! Possibly the best burger I’ve ever had. Service was fun & personable without being intrusive. Wine selection is stellar. Super cool ambiance. Can’t imagine a better date night restaurant!

Darkroom was FANTASTIC. My husband and I - world travellers who've been fortunate to have a lot of great food and wine in our day - LOVED it. We'd 100% recommend it, even to the most discerning diners. It totally exceeded our expectations and we're super keen to return. However, we know it'll be hard to get a reservation once it gets its (well deserved) Michelin designation! We celebrated our anniversary here. We’re new to Orange County and wanted to find a local place with great food and wine, but without a stuffy atmosphere or a crazy price tag. And Darkroom certainly delivered! For context, we’re unabashed winos. We’ve visited vineyards in the US, Italy, France, Australia, NZ, and South Africa. I can safely say that the wine selection was EXCEPTIONAL, with a wide range of high quality domestic and foreign producers. The staff was incredibly knowledgeable about all the wines, capably answering our questions, and steering us towards the best pairings for our food. We’re pretty serious about food too. We’ve been to dozens of Michelin star restaurants and this was on par with, if not better than, many of them! In short, the food was innovative AND tasted great. Oftentimes, chefs try really hard to be innovative, but it just ends up tasting weird (e.g. plankton ravioli from Blanca), which was not the case here. Our favourites were the Crispy Baby Artichokes and the Tuna Crudo. Sadly, these don't seem to be getting the attention they deserve in the reviews, but HIGHLY recommend both of them!

Wow! What an incredible dining experience! This was my second time here, and I have to say, it’s always an absolute delight. Last night was no exception! We kicked things off with the *Raw Scallop Tostada- bright, light, and refreshingly delicious. The Meyer lemon was the perfect touch, elevating the dish to a whole new level. *The Little Gem Caesar remains a favorite, with the perfect balance of crisp lettuce, fragrant herbs, crunchy croutons, and a dressing that ties everything together beautifully. Then came the showstopper: the *Maitake Mushroom. Smoky, dense, and finished with a perfectly balanced sauce, it was out-of-this-world delicious! For the main course, I went with the *Swordfish with cucumber shiro slaw. Now, I’ll be honest, I’m not usually a fan of swordfish or pickles. But wow, this dish completely changed my mind! The flavors melded together so harmoniously that I was truly impressed. My boyfriend ordered the *hanger steak and declared it the best steak he’s ever had. It was fantastic, flavorful, and served with a creamy spinach side that made the dish even more indulgent. He loved it so much that he had to order bread just to soak up every last drop of sauce. Nothing goes to waste here! For dessert, we went with the *Tangerine Semifreddo with citrus gummies. At first, we thought, “Hmm, interesting…” but after the first bite, mind blown! Their inventive approach to food is just spectacular. Even without a full liquor license, their exceptional food more than makes up for it. The ambiance is dark and intimate, and the service is top-notch. I’m truly impressed with this gem of a restaurant and will continue to support them. If you haven’t been yet, do yourself a favor and check it out!

Best restaurant in Orange County? DARKROOM just opened and they’re already putting the pressure on the rest of Orange County’s fine dining establishments. It’s so refreshing to be able to enjoy the highest quality food in a chill, casual atmosphere with no pretense or pomp. The music selection comes from a dual vinyl setup and the tracks have been hand curated by Zach and Drew, the masterminds behind DARKROOM. It all comes together as my favorite restaurant in the area, made by two of my favorite people.

Darkroom santa ana ca I’ve never developed an addiction or obsession in such short amount of time. It was instantly. After sleeping on it and recollected some mental clarity I can confidently confess this is my new favorite place in OC. This restaurant / bar delivered, checked all the boxes and subsequently exceeded my expectations dramatically. I’m saying this as I already had high hopes and a preconceived notion this place was going to be well above average due to the fact I heard about owners / chefs resume and past work experience. For the time being; I cannot and will not try to describe the 4 dishes and handful of fancy drinks we had last night for fear of not doing justice to the well thought out menu and flawless execution of the team who prepared them. I just want to express gratitude and give credit where it’s merited. I’m ecstatic that restaurants and eateries of this caliber can exist in Orange County CA. Not having to drive to LA when craving something of extraordinary caliber that’s just simply on another level is a good thing. It ain’t easy to just drive to republique, bestia, bavel, ryla, rustic canyon, cabra, holbox, providence, etc when the mood and bougie appetite strikes. It’s a real annoyance that all the better grub is in Los Angeles county. The list goes on for days..while OC for the most part stays basic and unexciting. Btw my gf is a picky and ridiculous batch and she preferred this to all the restaurants listed above (which are all absolutely phenomenal) And of course prefers to anything else in OC and we’ve been close to everywhere that’s worthwhile and highly rated from the whole in the walls to the most expensive in gods country. It’s the first restaurant she’s been blown away from every single item ordered. Kinda wild. Very good stuff and don’t even get me started on the vibe and concept. The best DJ, and playlist I’ve ever experienced dining. No cap, and not even being slightly hyperbolic or dramatic. Michelin 1 or 2 star worthy food without the pretentious BS and redtape shenanigans.

You can tell that the chefs here really care about their food / dishes, customers, and the overall environment. Scallop tostada was great to share Hamachi was excellent Clam dish was delicious and flavorful Pork chop was great flavor (although maybe slightly overcooked) Note: Chefs won’t modify dishes DARKROOM also has a separate and brighter room for private events

My wife and I were quite blown away by the food at Darkroom. Perhaps it helped that I didn’t really know what to expect when I saw pictures but my wife found it on LA times 101 review and suggested trying it out. The servers were welcoming and friendly, walking through each item in detail and having good sense. We ordered the raw scallop tostada, wagyu tartare, crispy artichokes, zucchini bread, and Nashville hot swordfish. The artichokes and hot swordfish were on the saucier side but that was a plus to us as we love delicious sauces. The swordfish and zucchini bread stood out in particular because I haven’t had anything close to those two items and the chefs hit it out of the park. The other three items were also great but are more common in other restaurants. The meals were decadent and rich but didn’t overdo those elements - were well balanced. The cocktails are vermouth and aperitif based and they paired well with the meal. We finished the night with the donuts and the decision was another great one. Perhaps it’s because we are from the Bay Area where cost of living is higher, but we found the price to be well worth the value. In comparison to one Michelin star places we’ve been to, we think the food and service beat some of the other one Michelin star places we’ve been to. I’d give this place a try if you like trying eccentric, eclectic, and edgy tastes.

This is a restaurant you don’t want to miss! Celebrated a birthday at Darkroom and honestly it was one of the most distinctive dining experiences we’ve had in Orange County. The creativity, flavors, and energy of the place feel completely different from anything else in the OC. I also love they offer a variety of NA options and mocktails. If they keep pushing at this level, a Michelin nomination would not surprise me at all.

I’m a foodie. Spoiled. But this experience is great!!! Not sharing pictures, because all we tried was absolutely delicious!!!! Steaks and fish dishes, desserts!!!! Can’t compare it with anything I tried before! Cocktails are wine based, but having few of them I had no any headache as usually)))) I don’t know how they do it - but that’s perfect! Service is great, can hardly find same in CO. Highly recommended!

I tried the Chrysalis experience and it was outstanding. It's a 10 course fixed menu deal and every course was delicious, my favorite was yellowtail in a coffee vanilla foam. It was clear that a ton of effort and love went into each dish as the head chef explained each one. They have an excellent cocktail (#9 was my favorite) and wine selection. They beat the pants off of other restaurants in the area at the same price point like Knife Pleat. I cannot wait to go back.

K
Katherine Carranza

Just, try it all! The menu may not make sense, but they make it make sense. The flavors are bold. The wine and beer selection are top tier. The vibe is dark and sexy. I was referred by local Somms and restaurant owners and this place did not disappoint!

Amazing! Went with 3 friends and we sampled multiple things on the menu! Great service that well exceeded many places around here with high aspiration and 2x the cost... Don't skip on the Scallop Tostada, its one of the best things I have ever had. More laid back fine dining in a relaxed atmosphere is exactly what it was and we are looking forward to going back again and again!

A dining experience from beginning to end. What all other service places should strive to be like. Kudos to chefs, et al for creating such an unique dining option in the space. All dishes were fantastically executed. Hopefully this doesn't come off as lazy, but really, everything was spot on. Flavor profiles were balanced and bold. Playful textures, phenomenal tastes. Go now.

Amazing new restaurant, went Saturday evening with friends and tried as many items as we could. Chef Drew and Chef Zack really knocked this one out of the park. The space is fun and inviting, the service is top notch and the food its superb, we need this in Orange County. Each plate had depth of flavor and was beautifully composed. Hats off to Darkroom and team, we will certainly be back.

You park next to a warehouse building not knowing what to expect. You enter into a nice foyer and dining room. I would call the food eclectic tapas. The starters were very creative and tasty. I think we tried nearly one of everything. The mains were amazing. We had duck, steak and scallops. Great flavors. Dessert was equally creative. The kitchen was able to modify dishes for GF, DF, EF dining. I highly recommend The Dark Room for those that want to try something extraordinary.

We are very VERY lucky to have DARKROOM in OC. This would stand out in NYC, LA, or London. To have it here is a testament to Chef's dedication to OC. He could easily kill it with this concept anywhere in the world, but he brought it home. Have visited several times and you can't go wrong on the menu. Always several new and interesting options, great wine list, impeccably executed.

Friendly and attentive staff, good music/vibes (not too loud which we appreciated!) The food was exceptionally exciting, beautifully flavored, bursting with flavor and a nice balance of textures! Highly recommend checking this place out! The clams were a surprising star, cooked in super flavorful coconut curry Spanishy broth; I could be happy with that broth and a loaf of bread for dinner. Portions on mains were good sizes, we practically rolled out of there. For veggie apps/sides we had the mushrooms, broccolini and carrots all of which were good but, the mushrooms rose above the other veggies in terms of flavor and texture; be sure to grab some of those when you visit! My companion had the steak which was cooked perfectly to medium rare, I enjoyed the Nashville hot honey swordfish- this is a must try!! I’ve had swordfish a hundred times but never like this! Truly an exciting innovative dish! Really fun play of flavors and textures, the sauce, quick pickles, & heaps of dill worked really well together in a bite!

This is the spot, the red mood lighting and dimmness adds to the intimacy. Staff is friendly and they are just as excited about the food as we were. There were 4 of us so we got to try several things. Not one of the dishes disappointed.

We had an amazing time at the DARKROOM, the waitress was attentive, and very kind. We got the scallop and the Gnocchi, and they were both delightful. The Gnocchi melts in your mouth, and has a strong goat milk like taste. The scallop toastada was my personal favorite, the marigold vinaigrette really made the flavors standout! No 32 for the cocktail was light citrusy and easy to drink. I was recommended the Chablis, and it paired really well with the food. Will be visiting again to try different items

My third visit. Dish after dish of outstanding and inventive food with super fresh ingredients, imbued with artful depth balance of flavor. Darkroom’s DNA is part DJ, part mad scientist, part varsity chef. Wine pairings were on point. The music and low lighting really set the vibe. Not too loud, not too quiet. An incredible vegan dish was available, too. Menu changes often so you can visit often.

L

Really great food and atmosphere. Food comes out as ready, and our main course took longer than the sides. Bartender was amazing, had on point recommendations, and gave us a free glass of wine for the wait.

Shareable type menu. For four of us, we ordered several items. Everything was wonderful. Got great help with a wine pairing for our meal. Fun vibe. If you've ever been in a real darkroom, you understand the lighting. We sat in the vinyl room near the record players. Might be a bit louder there but fun. Totally plan to go back.

Been here twice! Once was for an amazing Dine OC tasting menu experience at Chrysalis (inside The Dark Room)! Every dish was crafted with fresh ingredients and packed with umami flavors. You can really tell that Chef Zach has a passion for cooking and genuinely enjoys interacting with guests. All seven courses were outstanding, but my top three were the Hamachi, Tuna, and Chocolate dish—each one was beautifully presented and bursting with flavor. For Darkroom, I absolutely loved the ambiance. The vinyls, the vibe—everything made for such a unique and fun dining experience. My favorite dishes were the Duck, Zucchini Bread, and Tuna Crudo. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a memorable meal!

Update to original review: We went back as a family last night. Kanpachi was phenomenal and we had TWO of the hanger steaks they were so good. Told the chef we wish we could have bottled the sauce and taken it home or was so good. Albacore with lemon and olives was light, fresh, and just the right amount of salt. My husband said it was his best meal this year. First Time: Listen to your server on the wine pairings. We put our trust in him and each was excellent. We drank by the glass so we could try more. Food had great variety and unique flavors. The zucchini bread with Spanish ham has a definite breakfast flavor. The fresh herbs in many of the plates brought excellent freshness, even though I personally am not a fan of dill. The kanpachi was a favorite for the table, and we all wish we had more room for the warm, perfectly cooked doughnuts at the end. I marked down the review because most of the dishes were fairly heavy with cream-based sauces, which is just not my personal preference. Overall, I would go again and my guests enjoyed it too.

The food was good. The service is good. Good vibes. We had a reservation at 5:30 party of five we were celebrating that son came for visit from Australia. Luckily, we did not order dessert because they asked us to leave at 7:30, so we had to leave. I will come back but only with a party of 2 or 3. It's not a place to come with a large party.

This restaurant is truly incredible, an all-around top-notch experience! From the moment we walked in, every single person we interacted with was amazing. The service was impeccable, and our server was a standout - super knowledgeable and passionate about the menu. The way he described each dish made us want to order everything! We ended up going with the mushrooms, baked potatoes, and hanger steak, and wow, the flavors were out of this world. Every bite was perfection. I’m already counting down the days until I can go back and try more dishes. The restaurant itself is stunning, making it perfect for a date night or a fun evening out with friends. It gave me serious Crown Shy vibes (for those who know the magic of that NYC gem). Highly recommend!

Amazing. Just plain amazing. This location is a little hidden gem with treasures that will whet your appetite long before you order. On the particular occasion that we went to, the deejay was playing requests and the Head Chef/Owner flexed his culinary creativity and prowess to deliver one of the most tantalizing spreads I've ever seen. All of this was topped with an extremely friendly, attentive, and responsive staff anticipating needs and providing accomodations, it was one of the best experiences I've had in terms of service. I must return. I must. And with that, I hope you will too, for this is a treasure that must be shared.

Booked here for our anniversary. This quickly became our new favorite. One of the top restaurants in Orange County for sure! Very personalized greeting for our anniversary; they gave us a nice card signed by the staff! The food was out of this world! We ordered about 6 dishes and they were crazy good. Definitely recommend the wagyu tartare if it's there! The service was wonderful and the gentleman offered to time all the dishes to how he would wants them and it was spot on. We cannot wait to go back here and if you are on the fence, go!

This is my favorite place to eat in Orange County. I've lived in cities my entire life and moved to Orange County a few years back. OC is beautiful, but what I miss is the edgy culture and creativity of the city. This place is a city-dweller's dream but down here in OC. Dark lighting, a unique vinyl playlist every night, edgy servers who will vibe with you and help you figure out some choices while also recommending 3 bands to check out on Spotify and one cocktail bar you need to go to. The food is super differentiated - an artist experimenting. Some dishes you will love, some you may only like. That's kind of the point - order a bunch of small plates and experiment - plus the menu keeps changing. I don't come here to get the same steak once a month, I come here to try 9 small plates I've never seen made anywhere else and discover that I can't stop talking about 3 of them. My wife and I love everything about this place.

Gerald was so kind. He made our anniversary dinner extra special! We had dinner at Dark Room last night with another couple and had such a fabulous experience. Stephen was our server, and he truly elevated the entire evening. His food recommendations were spot-on and absolutely delicious, the pacing of the meal was perfect, and his presence was attentive without ever feeling intrusive. He anticipated our needs so well that we never once had to ask for anything. Dark Room is a wonderful dining experience and an ideal place to bring friends—you feel taken care of from start to finish. We can’t wait to return. Ask to sit at Stephen’s table!!! So this place blew me away, it's a haven for adventurous eaters! Staff and the bartender Scotty were friendly to customers and each other(a healthy work enviornet = abetter experience for everyone). You could even tell the chef took great pride in his work when he brought me the food himself and broke down what I was getting. Now I don't usually drink wine but I took a chance on wine based cocktails, to my surprise they were preem! The food was great tasting and truly based on what they can find locally so you'll never get tired of their ever changing menu. The atmosphere was dark like the name implys but ends up highlighting their decore. Hands down give this place a shot!

Holy crap this was a good find. I was looking for a place for a quick drink and an appetizer to kill time before a concert at The Observatory when this popped up. I saw wine bar and thought they may have some interesting wines that are harder to find. I show up and the atmosphere felt classy and got my seat at the bar which was a great experience. Let's start with the vibe. The room was dim but not too dark, they had a huge collection of vinyl albums and were playing actual records. As a record collector it really drew my attention. I didn't ask how they select the records or if I could make a request, but the place seems accommodating enough that they may let you help choose the ambience. I mean, they did let me in wearing my checkered vans, jeans, and my band tshirt. So while the atmosphere definitely feels classy, the vibe is definitely more casual and inviting. At least when I went on a Wednesday night at at 5:15, shortly after opening. Still had great conversation with the bartender and the other person sitting at the bar. Now the wine. I originally came because I wanted a Barolo Italian wine. While they didn't have the Barolo, they had a Nebbiolo which I immediately ordered. The wines are sourced from smaller distributors so you will find stuff here you won't find elsewhere. I also had the Chablis and a Riesling off the menu. I loved the Riesling as I'm only a casual wine drinker and not used to a dry Riesling. But the German Riesling they had was amazing. Let's just say I was feeling good before walking back to The Observatory for my show. The part I wasn't expecting was the food. Like the wine it is locally sourced and has an ever changing menu. The menu is on a single sheet of paper so you aren't overwhelmed with options and everything is described wonderfully. The staff was excited about the menu and you can tell great care and attention to detail was put into it. When I mentioned I was a textured eater, the bartender suggested the Wagyu Tartare, pairing with my Nebbiolo. It was served on a crispy potato sort of cup filled with the tartare, a crisp apple on top and mound of, if I remember correctly, manchego cheese. I got two and each was about four bites. Which is great because there is a ton of tastes to explore. Next I got the baked scallops that had hollandaise and, again if I remember correctly, pineapple. I ordered them with my Chablis which was a great choice. I received two and they were meant to eat in one large bite. They were served in the shell on a bed of smooth rocks, showing the detail continues in the presentation. It did not disappoint and like the Wagyu Tartare, it was delicious. It was a burst of flavor and was cooked perfectly, the hollandaise had a silkiness that just coated my tongue and the scallop was tender. My mouth is watering writing this review... I feel the price to value is actually really high here. I spent $100 but got three glasses of unique wines and a food experience I will never forget. If you are anywhere near this restaurant, do yourself a favor and stop by. I didn't try their cocktails but, like the food and wine, they offer unique experiences and constantly change so you never get that same visit twice. Go! You truly will have no regrets. Actually I have just one, I didn't take pictures! But that's ok, I'll be back.

Si aún no has ido, ¡hazte un favor y visítalo!

I'll be the first person to say that I don't understand the vibe at all. I understand that it's called Darkroom but it literally is so....dark? For seemingly no reason? The music is cool, so I'll give it that. They have a rotating vinyl playlist, which I definitely appreciated. The tables are a skosh close together but that ended up not even being a factor. The service was SO pleasant, unexpectedly so. Which was the best part of the night. Now the food: Ultimately, all of the food was pretty good, but nothing really stood out as needing to go back. - Fried Scotch olives I found to be an interesting idea but the taste itself didn't really pull through. the sauce was the most interesting part. - Gorganzola arancini with Wagyu tartare: for the price I wish there were a third. The aranchini is sort of whatever but the Wagyu actually was pretty nice. - Little gem Caeasar: this was an interesting presentation of this. While I enjoyed this, I would have enjoyed it infinitely more if there were a crouton/crunch aspect - Spicy chicken sandwich: favorite of the night. It's so unassuming but it's so perfectly crispy, the sauce is delicious. I was a little confused because the menu has such a clear divide in pricing between apps/entrees and this one snuck in at such a lower price point than the other entrees - Hanger steak: there's so so much going on here. While I love the peppers it's served with, it needs a real vegetable or a starch because otherwise the plate is just a saucy adventure. The steak itself is good, but this plate could be so much better.

I've been to Darkroom twice now, and overall, I really like this place! The service has been pretty good for the most part. The only hiccup was during my last visit when we were celebrating a birthday. The waiter mentioned bringing out a dessert for the occasion, but we ended up being charged for it. Not a big deal, but it would've been nice if that had been clearer. One of my favorite things about this place is that they change their menu frequently--whether it's daily or weekly--which makes it exciting to come back and see what new dishes they've come up with. Out of the 12-15 dishes I've tried so far, I've only really disliked two: the scallop tostadas and another vegetable appetizer that wasn't memorable enough to even recall. But the desserts, protein dishes, and other appetizers I've had have all been solid. The ambience is great too! True to the name, it has a literal "dark room" vibe with minimal lighting that gives it a cool, moody feel. I already have more planned visits this month and can't wait to bring more friends and family to share this spot. Definitely a place I'll keep coming back to!

Difficult to give this 4 Stars but we did. Here for our Anniversary because of the hype and reviews. Scotch Olives, Wagyu Tatare, Roasted Scallops, Roasted Squash, entree was NY Steak. Small plates were all well prepared and presented. The biggest issue was the price/value proposition. The Squash was a HOMERUN! The Wagyu was kind of bland but a creative presentation. The NY Steak was prepared as ordered and the fusion sauce with the Shishito's was good. However, parts of the Strip were tough and difficult to eat. Service was friendly and attentive. Not having a full bar was strange with a higher end gourmet menu, but we managed. Atmosphere was Dark like 60's Dinnerhouse but tables and chairs were kind of junior league. Would we return? Perhaps to try one of the Theme Prix Fix Nights at Chrysalis.

Here are what we (7 of us) take away: Food: 1. The Comte sticks: good 2. Zucchini bread: very good. The bread is like a cake, light and fluffy with some specks of grated zucchini, not dense. 3. Little gem Caesar: ok. Not a conventional Caesar cuz it got dills, parsley, and mints, lot of them. I like dills but not for this "Caesar-style" cuz it overpowered the taste of dressing... and all nori crunchies and pistachios got really lost. 4. Smoked and seared Albacore: so so. The beautiful fish slices got lost in the puddles of olive oil emulsion, the same as haricot verts. I would spread the emulsion on the plate, layer Haricots then fish slices on top. Drizzle with some emulsion so you can highlight the beautiful seared fish slices and the contrasts of colors. Also, I would rather grate the Myers lemon zest on top and or surrounding than lemon chunks. I had to separate not to eat them...lemon flavor is great but not adding the bitterness to my palate. 5. Wanderer NY steak: the most disappointing dish, got 3 dishes. The steak was cooked perfectly and high quality but was overpowered by super salty and saucy soy sauce reduction. All the fancy ingredients like Macha salsa, miso spinach, etc... got really lost. They didn't come together... 6. Kungpao donuts: strange. The sauce and flavor perhaps is perfect with shrimp or chicken, definitely not for donuts desert. 7 of us had a hard time to process it. I wouldn't call Kungpao and imitate a Kungpao-style, rather prefer an orange flavored syrup with sea salt sprinkles. 7. Semifreddo: good. 8. Risotto: very good. I appreciate the creativities but if they dont harmonize together then they defeat the purposes. Also, the star ingredient has to shine, anything else is complimentary for taste, texture, contrast, creativity. We tried but definitely will not a repeat. Service: The service was great from server to bartender and chef. However, our server missed one order. It was no big deal but we had enough food to rescue me...

Very overpriced, strange combinations of contrasting flavors, components that did not compliment each other, feels very experimental. Plating and execution was very good. Almost every dish had a strange bitter or spicy component. Tuna Tartar - mixing beet and carrot juice with tuna just overpowers any tuna flavor. Only reason to add beet is to trick ppl to think there is more tuna than there is. Tasted oddly bitter. Very weird. $27 for beets with a splash of tuna is wild. Squash - while cooked very nicely, having a bitter mustard flavor was odd and did not compliment the sweetness of squash. 2 small pieces of squash for $24 is wild. Zucchini bread - wonderfully toasted, texture was thick, buttery, and different than usual bread. $20 for 1 single slice of bread is wild. NY steak - they did not ask how we wanted it cooked. It was served rare. I enjoy a red medium rare steak but this was just surprisingly undercooked. Maybe they need to do that to fake tenderness since it's not a prime cut. They only have vermouth cocktails. Which was not surprising since most of the dishes had this strange bitterness similar to that of vermouth. The chef seems to have a taste for it. Some people seemed to enjoy the place, so can't completely write it off. Just was not for me. They also mischarged us, although service for the most part was impressively good.

Everyone gives this place good reviews, but I just don’t get it. Every time they’ve refused to accommodate food allergies. What could they do? Print it on the menu or let people know ahead of time. Instead, they won’t, and they don’t tell you ahead of time. Or you pay for a nice tasting dinner and they don’t tell you until after they have your money (and refuse to refund it). Sick of trying with this place. You’ve had 3 tries, I’m over it. Please label your allergens or clearly state that you cannot accommodate people without cross-contamination.

Great ambience. Theme and music. Playing vinyl and checks in cds. The food was a major let down. Too heavy on the sauces. The flavor combination journey was too strong. I appreciate the creativity but nothing tasted good. Tuna, kompachi gnocchi mushrooms steak. All terrible and I felt bloated and uncomfortable from night to morning. Service was good but a little OCD about changing my table light color and should have had more knowledge about which foods pair together. I will never go back for food. Maybe drinks cause they have turntables and anbieance and theme is cool
