Great food and great service thanks to Wayne.
Great time. Ask for Wayne. Great waiter!
The room is so pretty and the service excellent and friendly, but the food was delicious. Highly recommend.
Wayne was amazing! Made the night!
Beach is great. thx Cara.
Wayne was wonderful!
Best dining experience every time we have been here! Food was superb, service was extraordinary...multiple people waiting on us...Valet parking! Love this place
Wayne was an excellent server and we all had a fabulous experience and meal
The Whiteface lodge is beyond belief the entire staff goes above and beyond to ensure that my family had an amazing stay our family recommend this beautiful hotel and enjoy it’s location
The restaurant is beautiful and spacious. Food is always delicious. Staff is friendly and helpful.
Delicious food. Lovely atmosphere. Service was top notch. Highly reccommend.
wayne ricketts was wonderful and attentive. Charming, upbeat and helpful.
Wayne… the best service in the world.. i mean wow- it does not get better!!!
Great food, amazing drinks, superb service!!!!! All around good time.
Great drinks and service as always! Room 210 Cara is the best!
Lovely day spent down at the Lake. Kara was the hostess with the mostess!
Wonderful Adirondack vibe. Tremendous setting and offerings.
The food is great lobster rolls are a must try, best in the northeast
Theresa was great. Loved the log decor
A beautiful room with a fantastic dinner.
If you’re looking for a high end and unique experience for a place in the Adirondacks this is it
Fantastic place with lots of amenities and high quality dining.
Awesome place! Waitress was amazing!
Hi, we spent the day at the beach and we had an awesome experience. Cara did an amazing job and made our stay super. Thanks Cara for all your support and being so friendly. Kevin Corcoran
Wonderful dinner! Friendly atmosphere. Thank you to our waiter Wayne. :)
Top notch fine dining in a truly unique setting. Wayne’s professionalism and kindness went above and beyond. Highly recommend!
Theresa is amazing!! There are a wide range of options for cocktails and beer. Great space and ambiance.
This place is so cozy and has a great atmosphere. Just be mindful that some of the chairs have very sharp nails. I have adjusted my chair and been poked through the cushion by nails. Overall, they make everything out of the local trees, including salt and pepper shakers. This place, especially within such a hotel, is like a woodland palace.
A fabulous time. And our waiter, Wayne, was truly lovely. Ask for him when you come!
Our bartender; Theresa, is so personable and went to great lengths to make sure our order was made to perfection.
Such a great place to relax and dine in Lake Placid! Kudos to Cara for being such a great host!!!
We enjoyed such a great meal! The short rib and the veal chop - we are still talking about it! Especially the gnocchi that came with the short rib! and to end the night with the Baileys Crème Brûlée- absolutely delicious! Also the cocktails were out of this world!
Truly the best restaurant in Lake Placid. Food is excellent, the service is great, and the ambience is refined yet cozy - you will not be disappointed. This place is a refreshing break from the casual pub fare that most of the Lake Placid restaurants offer.
Karen is a G. Kind, Attentive and an ideal hostess.
Wayne and Jenny were fabulous severs and the filet minion was amazing! Highly recommend.
The servers were fantastic, true joy to interact with. The meat was great, the seafood was not so good
Great experience here! Very attentive to Celiac and other special dietary needs.
We ate two dinners at Kanu during our mini moon stay and it was a fantastic meal both nights. The ribeye and prime rib were delicious and cooked perfectly, and adding the lobster tail was a real treat! But the best part about our experience was our wonderful server, Wayne. For our first meal, Wayne went above and beyond to make our mini moon dinner experience so special and he was beyond accommodating. We were so happy to see Wayne as our server the second night as well - he amazingly remembered both of our drink and food orders, too! Thank you Wayne!!
Had a great experience here - we had cocktails at the bar and it was a great time. The bartender, Theresa, was so friendly and attentive. Our drinks were delicious and can’t wait to come back.
We were greeted and served dinner by a true professional, Wayne. My wife, daughter, son in-law and our two (under two years of age) had a wonderful experience in the dining room. Wayne was congenial, attentive and accommodating to all of our needs. His energy and attitude made this day even more special. Thank you very much Wayne!
To start, the space of this resteraunt and the whole hotel in general is gorgeous. The decor, the architecture, the art, all has this amazing Adirondack feel that's authentic and not cheesy at all. The service here was also excellent, and both waiters we had were so knowledgeable as well as being very kind and attentive. The French onion soup was one of the best I've had, and the wedge salad was also excellent. I had the wagyu for my main, and it literally melted in my mouth, it was delicious, as were all the sides. Couldn't reccomend this spot enough for a upscale dinner in Lake Placid!
The whiteface lodge has such a great atmosphere. We came here for dinner and spa treatment. Theresa at the bar was a great host and her blackberry bourbon smash was a must try!!
My daughter and I went to Kanu’s Sunday Prime Rib buffet. The variety of the buffet was the perfect amount to provide variety for everyone and still deliver on quality. The service was great, the servers went out of their way to make the dinner memorable. The entire Whiteface Lodge is stunning replicating an Adirondack Great Camp, and the Kanu is the majestic centerpiece of the lodge.
The word “extraordinary” doesn’t come close to describing this place. My wife and I came for dinner and could not have been more pleased with the meal, but what made it sure special was our server, Wayne. What great humor he has!
We went on our pre wedding celebration, waiter Wayne was awesome, got complimentary champagne for our celebration as well as a complimentary dessert. Went above and beyond will be back again next summer!
The food was great. Wayne was our waiter and was so friendly. He had great recommendations. I will definitely come back!
Great all around! We were celebrating our honeymoon and Kresta helped make it so very special! Special shout out to her and the whole team.
Wayne was the best! Complimentary prosecco and a slab of chocolate cake for my partner’s birthday! Great French onion soup and wagyu.
Food was great and priced appropriately. Wayne was out server. He was very professional and had a smile on his face. It was an excellent place for a birthday meal
Great fun and excellent service at Kanu. Enjoyed the pontoon boat with the family and a great relaxing lunch. Very helpful and knowledgeable staff and boat captain. Highly recommend to families.
Such a wonderful experience and meal. We arrived with a slight mistake of making the reservation for the wrong time. They were extremely accommodating and offered us a table regardless. The decor was stunning, our waitress Jenni was so sweet and helpful and the food was top notch. We came for a bday celebration and it did not disappoint. We ordered the Caesar salad, onion soup and lamb. Everything came out hot and fresh. Jenni even provided a bday treat which was so unexpected but made my night. I highly recommend this restaurant!!
This is a review for Kanu Club on the lake! What a wonderful spot. Peaceful and beautiful view, of course!! Last day it was open for the season, so we enjoyed some kayaking and then sat by the water. This facility of Whiteface Lodge is a gem. Chatted with Cara about the ADK area and got some great ideas! She is lovely! Such a great day!!
I’m giving it 5 starts for making the effort to use local pastured and grass-fed meats. The bast lobster bisque by far - the actual pieces of lobster were a pleasant surprise and overall the flavor was pretty good. It was made with fish stock, so no meat by-products to mask the flavor. The vegetables were conventional, though really well-prepared. Also, I visited off season, so that might have been a factor. Amazing cheesecake! The venue was quite exquisite! It looks like it’s from the 1900. As I learned, it was built in the mid 2000’s respecting the look of the past. The wood is actually wood and the ambiance has that mountain lodge fell that one craves when visiting upstate NY. While I’d definitely state this is a must-visit place, I’d add that the bar across the hall is also interesting. It’s owned by the same owner if I got that correctly. The food items differ though and there’s often live music.
Update...Had breakfast at Kanu all three mornings of our stay at the Whiteface Lodge. The buffet spread is very nice. You have your choice of dining at the restaurant or bringing the food back to your room. We have dined here on four occasions now, Kanu is definitely a lot better than the reviews I've seen here... We dined at Kanu on our last visit to Lake Placid and had a wonderful overall experience. Both the food and service were great, the restaurant is stunningly beautiful. It has an amazing Adirondacks feel to it. In any event, Kanu is definitely underrated. It is a great spot for a special occasion meal.
We dined here tonight and am shocked by the number of poor reviews. From the very start, the staff was so pleasant and helpful. The bread and the shrimp for starters were delicious. Our main entrees were all awesome! Dessert and cappuccino to end the meal were also a win. The ambience and atmosphere of the lodge are super cool too. We would absolutely return!
Amazing time here. Lumber Jack libation drink & bison burger were very very good. Shrimp Pot Pie was very good too and I liked that it was deconstructed so it was a lighter version of a pot pie. Ambiance was amazing!! Highly recommend!
I was perplexed by the wide range of rating and almost went elsewhere… glad I dined here. One has to realize that COVID has thrown a lot of places for a loop and this perhaps some of the low scores. But in April we found them on their game will delicious cuisine, charming service, and north woods decor. So glad we dined here. Prices… perhaps a bit high for what you get but that aside we very much enjoyed dining here.
I don't care what anybody else says, this is the best meal that you can find in Lake Placid. Absolutely top to your food, service, and incredible people. Our server Jenny was a delight, the bartender Andy made phenomenal drinks, and the chefs deserve the highest praises. Cannot wait to come back, and eat here again.

My husband and I stepped out while on vacation to have drinks and grab food at the bar. Theresa was our bartender and we couldn’t have had a more positive experience. She was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and cocktails, and made wonderful recommendations without being pushy. Overall a wonderful experience for parents who rarely get time to step out!
We had the prime rib buffet. Wayne was a fantastic waiter and the food was great. The chef, Shane, went out of his way to give us a special dessert that my daughter (who has a severe food allergy) could safely eat. Wonderful experience!
This place is cozy and beautiful. There was a singer with a guitar which brightened up the atmosphere and made it very welcoming. The hibiscus hugo drink with gin was delicious and so was the nicotine salad was devine. Definitely recommend this place.
The breakfast buffet is very worth it if staying in the hotel. The egg selection is limited, but lots of fresh fruits and bread options. Real maple syrup. Pancakes great. Chobani yogurt good touch. And they allow take out. The dinner prime rib buffet on Sunday we agonized long and hard $45 vs Peak 47 next door with live music. We talked to a number of staff and they recommended the prime rib. It did not disappoint. Had a fair few prime rib buffets and this was the best even compared to non buffet ones we’ve tried. The selection is limited but the quality of the beef and the roasted veggies are great. They could really improve the desserts, only come here if you like beef.
Wayne was very attentive to our table. He was very friendly and knowledgeable about the place. The food was really good. Cannot go wrong with the wagyu steak and the roasted freebird hen. The drinks were on par with the food. 100% recommend getting the hibiscus cocktail.
Had an absolutely amazing dining experience at Whiteface Lodge. Theresa behind the bar made a phenomenal mojito. Gentleman Joe one man band gave a great performance with his own twist on some classic cover songs. Last but certainly not least if it wasn’t for our server Kresta who offered a truly unique Adirondack experience I would not have known to get the special. Chris
Our 1st experience was not the best but 2nd was fantastic. We had 9 people everyone enjoyed their meals. The special was the duck which was tender, cooked deliciously. Staff was friendly and welcoming.

A real pleasure dining at Kanu last nite (and the bar the night before). The servers never stopped for a second. Very hard working crew. Kudos to Tiffany tonite. Bread is a winner to start. Good bread goes a long way. Ok- Caesar was fine. Sized to share. Steak frites (a filet mignon w/ a potato thing) was very good. Halibut very good. Berries for dessert a real plus. ONLY PROBLEM - the crab and artichoke dip app is one of the worst things I have tasted. So bad it should come off the menu. Immediately. For $19 they could certainly come up with a few better appetizers. Did I mention I HATED the crab and artichoke dip?
Staff was great. Lake was beautiful. Super fun!
Great dinner. Adnan was amazing! Will be back
Wonderful atmosphere and very attentive service. Our steaks were tasty, but just a tad too chewy. Sides were delicious.
I have had such great experiences at Kanu!! The food has been improving significantly!! The staff is wonderful so nice and positive!! It's my happy place!!!
Service was outstanding. Which is hard to come by these days. Really appreciate the kind and lovely waitresses that served us. Menu is small but if you’ve ever been to a fine dining restaurant before, that’s usually the case. Portion sizes are also smaller but again, that’s part of fine dining. If you want large portions and lots of options you are likely looking for a diff style of dining. The dishes we had were delicious and filling. The ambiance, decor, vibe of this restaurant is outstanding. To make it 5 stars, due to the amount of other reviews I’ve read requesting more options maybe add a few more items.
Kanu, the signature restaurant at the Whiteface Lodge in Lake Placid, offers an upscale dining experience that perfectly balances rustic Adirondack charm with refined culinary artistry. From the moment you step into its warm dining room, you're treated to impeccable service and a menu that showcases locally sourced ingredients elevated through creative, seasonal dishes. With its cozy ambiance and stunning mountain lodge setting, Kanu is a must-visit for anyone seeking a memorable fine dining experience in the heart of the Adirondacks.
I really like the food in your lovely lodge, but im angry that you changed the cookie recipe. The old cookies were spectacular, the dough was as fine as could be, the chocolate as milky as a cow, but the hardness is what impedes this old formula of the cookie.
This setting is amazing, surrounded by hunting lodge trappings decorated seasonally (especially stunning at Christmas). Fireplaces and dark wood throughout give a consistent warm, cozy, atmosphere. I’ve eaten here twice now and the food was good but expensive compared to comparable dining in the area. Service has been mixed, sometimes fast and attentive, but there is a tendency for food to take a long time to arrive. Cocktails are excellent and there is a strong wine list. The menu has a lot of variety but pay attention to prices - entrees can run $20-$80 so you don’t want to get surprised with the check. This restaurant is super convenient if you’re staying at the lodge.

This place is pure ambiance.. beautiful location but the food was a disappointment. We were a party of 11, it took a long time to order and eventually get our food. My cowboy steak was overly fatty, my friends lobster linguini was tough and uncooked. Another friends halibut was meh.. expensive and not worth it.
Mediocre food for high end prices. The ambiance is cool, feels like Lake Placid for sure. Service was ok, food was ok. I wouldn’t go back, and the fact that there were three people in the place at dinner time I’m not alone.
Dining room was amazing. Server was amazing. Drinks were amazing. Food was overpriced, small portioned, and overcooked. Although, it is worth going once.
It’s “just fine” dining. We ate here in 2019 with our first stay at the lodge and it had a more interesting menu with wine pairings. Now it’s a slim menu with generic food at high prices. The dining room is awesome, so I recommend using the money you’d spend on dinner here and stay at the lodge, then eat the breakfast that included and served in the same room the next morning. Staff is very kind and accommodating though.
I echo the other recent reviews about this place. The good, the ambience is super cool, service is super nice and accommodating. Their version of the old fashioned, bacon as the garnish, classic and really tasty and fun The food is super expensive and not great. There also isn’t much to choose from. One of us got the scallops. The scallops were high quality but not cooked well, no sear. Another of us got the cowboy steak, medium rare, which came out well done and charred. They were nice enough not to charge us for the steak so we got out of there with a reasonable bill by one of us skipping dinner! If you go here be prepared for a cool laid back vibe in a super interesting like hunting lodge hall, but you will pay for it in the food.
Ambience and service were top notch. The food left much to be desired. Expectations were high given the beautiful atmosphere and attentive service but the food did not live up to its surroundings. Harissa chicken presentation was great but was was lacking flavor and was slightly dry. The salmon dish was very salty. However, it is worth going to Kanu for drinks and small plates, etc because it is a beautiful space.
Beautiful setting but fairly mediocre food - especially for the (over-)price tag.
Limited menu, very high prices, servers seem to fawn over the regulars at the expense of others.
Prices increased by about double since last year, limited menu, slow service and way too expensive now. I used to come all the time and could easily get a 30 dollar meal. It was hard to get a 50 dollar meal this time. We made a reservation, and the only two times they would allow were 5:45 and 8:00, during the 2 hours we were there two other tables were seated.
Overpriced. I expected to pay a lot, but the quality just wasn't there. Very limited menu. Lovely space and a very attentive server, but it's shameful to charge so much for a rather uninspired meal.
Service was slow. The bisque was good but a bit thick. Dinner took 1 & 1/2 hours to arrive after we sat down. The trout was excellent but the vegetables were semi-raw. I think they were trying for tender/crisp but landed on Raw/crunchy. The wild rice was crunchy. The "hanger streak" was actually sirloin tip. Done okay, but not hanger steak. Overall this was very disappointing. Beautiful setting though.
We were so looking forward to our Christmas dinner at Whiteface Lodge. When we arrived, we were very much impressed with the grandeur of the Lodge and the impressive space that the Kanu restaurant sits in. It was like walking into Yosemite’s Tenaya Lodge but more impressive. We selected this location for Christmas dinner based on listings of the best Christmas dinners in the area. We knew in advance that the Christmas dinner was going to be a buffet which was not a problem. We expected it to be quite nice considering the location and the cost (per person: $100.00) which was also not a problem. The festive decor was somewhat of a distraction to the reality of what we were about to experience. Once we sat down, the “server” took our drink order and then we headed off to the buffet. First stop, getting a bowl of quite good Butternut Squash soup. Then a visit to what con only be described as a sad excuse for a Charcuterie Board. It was a mess with little selection of cheeses, meats, crackers and other items one would expect in a place like this. It appeared to be ransacked by kids and, as I said, a complete mess. The staff should have paid more attention to how this first station was being kept up. I did get some cheese and a few other things that were less-than-impressive. After I finished that, I went back to the carving station where they had a choice of turkey or prime rib. I opted for the turkey, which was very dry. I asked where the gravy was and they had none. There were limited sides, so I got some mashed potatoes and broccoli gratin (both were good). I also tried the salmon which had no flavor and was extremely dry. We sat down to consume the food, saw the “server” one more time to fill up my water glass. Did not go back for more food as the only other options were rice pilaf and brussels sprouts (no thank you). No bread options either. Now for a visit to the dessert table. For $100 per person, we expected some pretty fabulous desserts. That was not the case. Everything was in bite sizes, very simple, and of the few options. Not even any cakes or pies (except for something with apples that was cut up into smaller pieces). When the check came, we were shocked to find that a 20% gratuity was added to the bill. I am sorry but for a buffet when we saw the “server” twice, we served ourselves and I even had to place my used plates on another vacant table, paying over $40.00 for “service” that you would get at a Las Vegas buffet is highly unreasonable. No wonder the service was poor since there is no motivation for the “server” to do anything above and beyond. We would certainly never go back for such a dinner and warn all who are considering Whiteface Lodge for Christmas dinner to go with low expectations.
To start, the setting and service are excellent. The space is incredible, as are the servers who were nothing but kind, patient, and attentive to our mixed family group (18 months to 80 years of age). What falls short, sadly, is the food and beverage quality. I understand how disruptive COVID has been for hospitality operators, and as such, try to keep an open mind when judging the quality of service, product, and setting in our current state. However, In this instance, I find it hard to find any value in any of the entrees that average $55-60 in price- the osso bucco was very dry, the lamb shank was bland (at least for what would typically be a flavorful Moroccan dish), and the soup, salad, and Brie appetizer dishes were no different than what is found on the adjacent tavern menu. The cowboy ribeye was tasty and well prepared, but one shouldn’t have to pray for that at a $69 price tag. The drink menu is also shared with the adjacent tavern, which in of itself isn’t a problem, it also leaves a lot to be desired. All in all, our $800 tab for 5 left us all feeling a little unfulfilled. The idea of this place is fantastic- find dining in an incredible setting, with views and friendly service to match. Unfortunately, the food quality will need to catch up for that to be a reality
Completely overpriced. Only go for the ambience. We waited two hours for our fairly passable entrées. Just as I was ready to walk out they arrived. Kind server, but lots of problems with the entire experience: “May we have more water please?“ “ May we have more bread please while we wait?“ Such a dreadful experience that we were embarrassed in front of one another. For those prices I expected a five star experience. This was an outrage.
Food horrible for the price stay away I should be refunded stay away do not waste your dinner horrible chefs stay Away
Poor experience. Dinner was slightly overcooked but good. Our dessert was served so burnt, it tasted like charcoal. With reservations and allergy notes in reservations, staff seemed unaware of accommodations we made prior to arriving.
One of the worst steaks I’ve had in this caliber of a restaurant. High priced and under whelming.
Seated at 6:30, two other couples seated after us. Both couples received their meals and finished them before we ever got ours. Finally got our meal at 7:50. Steak was over cooked and risotto was undercooked. At least the food was decent.
We where eagerly looking forward to our Saturday night dinner reservations for a party of 8 even after were informed it was going to be buffet since this place was rated to be fine dinning. The switch to a buffet last minute was brought on by a recent fire they had. Our waitress took our drink order and barely saw her for the rest the night. We went and got our food... selection very poor for it being $45/per person. You had a choice of 2 salads, short ribs that were tough and dry, mached potatoes and 2 vegetables sides, seafood pasta and very hard stale bread. And for the kids menu included chicken tenders and fries and mac n cheese. Food was bland/dry and cold. After we saw other tables had other choices of food that was not on the buffet we inquired with another server as our server was no where to be found where those options where available. We were told that we could have opted to order off an additional menu upon request only. Our waitresses never informed us of the other option! Also our bill had a 20% gratuity added even though we had barely recieced any service from our waitress besides getting us 1 drink order and asking at the end of our meal if we wanted another drink before dropping the check. Very overpriced for the selection (the buffet should have had more varity not just one type of meat and on type of pasta with seafood) and quality. Would have expected allot more from a high end restaurant especially being the only high end place that come up for this area.
Very disappointed. I would give ZERO stars if it was an option!!! Over $200 spent on dinner for two with none of our entrees eaten. My steak didn’t have the items on the dish that the menu described. After returning my dish to kitchen, the 2nd attempt was worse!! It was supposed to be medium rare but instead was badly overcooked (see picture). My wife’s short rib was dry and the side dish of Gorgonzola gnocchi was so nasty. Manager couldn’t care less. FOOD NOT EVEN CLOSE TO BEING WORTH HALF OF WHAT THEY CHARGE. Drinks were the only thing that made getting screwed by this place bearable.
The Whiteface Lodge is a grand hotel; would fully recommend 10/10. This restaurant, however, leaves so much to be desired. Let's start with the wine. They advertise bottles of Italian Barolo but they aren't actually Barolo (it's Nebbiolo - not at all the same) and they're not even DOCG. Yet they charge Barolo prices for it. If you know even the ABCs of Italian wine, you'll know that this is 100% unacceptable. For the food: filet was fine, as it better be for $70 a cut. The short rib parpadelle was a lump of meat with pasta. No sauce. No flavor. Utterly disappointing. The green beans on the side could have been frozen for all I know. For the service: After complaining about the wine I was never offered a suitable substitute for my >$200 meal. It shouldn't be hard to find a glass of anything DOCG-rated out of Italy. Nope. And while sitting there visibly angry after we were done eating, it still took another 15 minutes to get the check. And they had the gall to ask if we wanted a dessert menu! If you're a tourist in Lake Placid and want to get ripped off in a fancy rustic-chic setting, this place is for you. If you like fine dining, avoid this place at all costs.
Extremely disappointing and unprofessional experience. About a month ago, I called Kanu to make a New Year’s Eve reservation for my family, who are traveling from Brazil to spend the holiday together after being one year away from them. This evening was especially important to us because it is also my mother’s birthday. For the past four weeks, I called weekly to confirm the reservation. Each time, the same woman answered the phone and repeatedly reassured me that everything was confirmed. She told me the reservation was set, explained the time frame (9 PM–1 AM), the price per person, and said I would receive a follow-up call with menu details and logistics. Because I never received that call, I continued to call weekly and specifically asked multiple times if she was sure the reservation was secured- and every time, I was told yes. Four days before New Year’s Eve, and one day before traveling with my family, I called again just to ask a simple question about bringing champagne. This time, a different person answered, who seemed to be the manager, and informed me that there was no reservation under my name, they were booked up for many months and they would not be able to accommodate us. At that point, every restaurant in the area was already fully booked, leaving us scrambling with no options for New Year’s Eve or my mother’s birthday. This situation was entirely avoidable and reflects extremely poor communication and lack of accountability. Repeated reassurance over multiple weeks, followed by a last-minute denial, is unacceptable - especially for a holiday reservation. Very disappointing experience, and unfortunately not one I would recommend.
