Jaffna House is a great restaurant offering authentic Sri Lankan and Indian fusion dishes. The food was absolutely delicious—full of flavor and aroma, but perfectly balanced without the overpowering use of spices. The Dosa was the best I’ve ever had, crispy and light, and the vegetable sticks were incredibly tasty! Everything we tried was fresh and well-prepared. Service was excellent—attentive, kind, and welcoming. The food was served within a reasonable time, and the prices were fair for the quality and portion size. Overall, a fantastic dining experience and definitely worth a visit if you’re looking for authentic Sri Lankan flavours in Tooting.
This is no frills, a legendary institution in Tooting. Established in 1991. This is one of the oldest institution serving authentic Sri Lankan food to all walks of life. Ironically this is the place to taste Sri Lankan made alcoholic drinks. Very budget friendly while you visit the place you are attracted to their signature rolls, the mutton roll, the crispy roll comes with an authentic sweet and tangy chutney. Also you must try the egg hoppers with the coconut sambol. Lunch a must try dish the Jaffna style fish curry. Unfortunately the fish is Sri Lankan canned fish. The atmosphere in the evening is electric and the decor resembles the landmarks of Northern Sri Lanks. Visit the place to try their bottled stout.
Absolutely outstanding! This is hands-down one of the best Jaffna-style restaurants I’ve been to in London. The food is incredibly authentic — rich in flavour, beautifully spiced, and clearly made with care. Every dish felt like a trip back to Jaffna, full of depth and tradition. On top of that, the service was exceptional. Warm, welcoming, and attentive from start to finish. It’s rare to find a place that gets both the food and the hospitality just right — but this restaurant does it effortlessly. Highly recommended for anyone looking to experience genuine Jaffna cuisine at its finest!
I tried the mutton kottu, mutton biriyani, hoppers, and vadai. Everything was really good, but the kottu and vadai were absolutely outstanding. Highly recommend for Sri Lankan food.
Fantastic meal. Family friendly. Great service. Gorgeous spicy food (but also non spicy options). Lovely warm atmosphere.
You can tell this location is one of the oldest Tamil restaurant and takeaways in the city. The quality and taste is definitely well done and you know they have refined it over time to get it just right. A very nice throwback to the takeout restaurants of the 90's(that is a compliment by the way, as a lot of places these days can be rather cookie cutter). The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. The food is prepared fresh and fast. Definitely check it out if you are in the area. Only a few minutes(approx 2 min) from Tooting Broadway station.
Casually walking down the road on a Friday evening and we saw they do the Thali special on Friday, so we decided to get it. Great value, great flavour and an overall great meal. Would recommend and will definitely come back if I'm in the area!
A friend highly recommended Jaffna house so we went for dinner last night. Staff very welcoming and polite, very attentive to explain the menu and suggest dishes. The dishes were delicious, tables, restaurant and toilets spotless clean! We’ll definitely go back!
This is a fabulous little place. Was originally planning on going to the nearby Kothu restaurant, but they messed up the booking. Ended up here, and it went beyond my expectations. The food was so delicious that it brought back fond memories from home (Sri Lanka). Every single dish had the perfect combination of spices and flavours, and three portions were more than filling, at very reasonable prices. Glad I discovered this place, and will most definitely return.
We had attended a large party booking and had the private room at the back. The staff were superb, service was great and food was lovely. I have tasted new dishes that I haven’t had before, and truly enjoyed my favourite Dosai Masala, very very nice. We had really nice time. We will be returning.
Our first time tasting Sri Lankan cuisine and WOW..totally BLOWN AWAY! Cafe style restaurant with warm atmosphere, incredible quality food with a home spun feel and amazing value for money. Staff were super friendly, helpful and efficient. Thanks to our mate Sam, a regular, who helped with the choices on a very extentensive menu! We are recommending it (takeaway too) to all our friends! 🙌🙌🙌
Loved the food so much, so satisfying! The devilled mutton was delightful and the nethhali fish puttu was the fave. Would also recommend the aubergine curry, very tasty and complex!
31/10/2024 (Diwali Night) **A Truly Homely Experience with Incredible Food!** I can’t recommend Jaffna House enough! From the moment we arrived, Ravi & staff made us feel like part of the family. They were so warm and welcoming, really going out of their way to make us feel at home. The food was amazing—started with the flavorful fish cutlet and chicken devil, followed by mutton curry, fish curry, parotta, and veech roti. Everything was fresh, delicious, and full of depth. Accompanied by a delicious Nelli Crush and Cream Soda :D We took away a Watalappam to enjoy with an evening tea, it was an amazing treat. Ravi and staff were very considerate and friendly. If you’re looking for a welcoming atmosphere and fabulous Sri Lankan Tamil food, Jaffna House is a must-visit!
Lovely meal. We went as a large group and had basically a private room in the back. Drinks, food and atmosphere was 10/10. Also very reasonable price! Ravi was very helpful with recommendations and attentive! Will definitely be returning
Fantastic restaurant, very authentic food and super tasty. Our waiter, Ravi, was very accommodating and made the experience great
Fresh, tasty food! Very good service and price is amazing. I am local and will return :)
We are so thrilled about this amazing restaurant that celebrates Sri Lankan Tamil food. The design of and atmosphere in the restaurant is nice, the waiters are kind and knowing and the food is simply amazing.
Staff were lovely and so accommodating. We had a group of 10 and were given a private room at the back with such good service. Lovely place. Ravi was very welcoming!
Walked past the other day and decided to come back. Had the Friday special, what can I say other than ‘absolutely delicious’ I enjoyed every morsel and will definitely be back. Great atmosphere, lovely food and exceptional value for money. Absolutely first class.
We visited Sri Lanka at Easter and have been craving some good Sri Lankan food. We found it at Jaffna House. The Chicken Kothu was delicious. The service from Ravi was amazing. We want early evening on a Tuesday and there were already people leaving that had already eaten. We will be back 100%
Amazing food, warm and attentive service. Will definitely be back!
Excellent experience overall! Particularly loved the fish curry. Ravi took very good care of us. Would definitely recommend!
I love Jaffna house! Often stop here for lunch, I highly recommend the veg set meal & coconut chutney for some homely and delicious flavours :)
In an area with many curry houses it can be difficult to find the best ones but Jaffna House was great. Delicious food and great service. Good value - we will come again!
Jaffna House is brilliant! My eight friends and I came for dinner and the food was delicious and fresh. Quick, friendly service from Ravi and a great atmosphere. Also really affordable!
This restaurant should win srilankan top Asian restaurant in London. The chefs are really good. Cooks just like my mother cooked us before she passed away. Taste abd delicious. Better than other Srilankan restaurants in South West London or in Tooting and Croydon area. This restaurant should been top 1 awards for food and hygiene. I always come back and treat us good and good customer service. GAJ always remembers us and treat us excellent customer service. Polite and kind staff. Hot food for takeaway. I will try to have food in the restaurant with cousins and friends.
My grandmother lived in this area, so I passed this restaurant for years without going in. But today I did and I'm glad I did! Fantastic food, brilliant service, reasonable prices and lovely ambiance! Don't walk, run
Fast and friendly service, relaxed atmosphere. My local supplier for lunch snacks to takeaway, and in the evenings when I dine in for dinner. fish and egg rolls, mutton rolls, mutton roti, fish curry, kotthu all lovely and remind me of Sri Lanka. Thank you!!
I've been going to Jaffna house for few years and this is one of the best Sri Lankan restaurants in London. The food is authentic and has the Sri Lankan taste.
Leaving Jaffna House very full and happy! Amazing food and lovely service. Would highly recommend the veg set meal, the aubergine was so good!
The Sri Lankanbfood on offer was amazing and extraordinarily good value. I paid £10 at lunchtime for an amazing 'tapas' of Currys.
Excellent as always. A firm favourite and well worth the visit. Excellent food, lovely staff, and all very reasonably priced. A must if in the area.
Absolutely lovely evening at Jaffna House. The food was nothing short of delicious, authentic and very reasonably priced for how much we ordered. Ther service was warm, friendly and attentive. A wonderful local business - we will definitely be returning!
We have been coming to Jaffna House for many years, it's a definate favourite!! The food is always amazing, the staff are lovely, helpful & welcoming and the prices are extremely reasonable! The best Sri Lankan restaurant we've ever been to! It's a must try !!
I hosted a private event with Jaffna House and they were exceptional - the staff, the food, the service! They went above and beyond to make it a special night and I’ve had nothing but positive feedback. The food took me right back home. Special thank you to Gajan for liaising with me to coordinate the event, I really appreciate it and couldn’t be happier! Priyani
The food was absolutely delicious and very authentic! I have been to many Sri Lankan restaurants in London, but this was by far the best. The chicken curry, fish cutlets, and kottu roti were a hit. Highly recommend.
Fabulous! I came here recently with my family and we thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The restaurant has a wonderful relaxed vibe with attentive and kind staff. The food is excellent with plenty of veggie options too. My mum struggles with spice so the team kindly tailored her meal to suit her preference without any issues at all. I am looking forward to coming here again soon! Amazing value as well, stuffed for less than a tenner! Oh, and they also have a delicious Sri Lankan Stout, which can be hard to find, yum!!!
Reserved for a birthday party and had last minute changes. Staff were so accommodating and friendly. As a Sri Lankan, it was a taste of home and the atmosphere took me back to how family would take care of you. Uncle Raja is a very accommodating and welcoming host and I could not have had a better birthday! Thank you so much for a wonderful experience!
I've been twice and everything I've ordered has been simply incredible. Especially recommend the kotthu and chilli vadai, which was a revelation to me. Really wide range of vegan and vegetarian options - the Dal and the sour aubergine curry were also amazing
Quiet Monday- had the mutton thali. 5 condiments with rice and mutton which is good value for lunch. The potato, cabbage, spinhas, chick peas was all fine as the rice. Mutton curry was ok. The popodun was soggy. Egg hoppers was average- could be crisper with a more Flavoursome egg. it took sometime For the hopers to turn up so if ordering expect a slightly longer dining time. The accompaniment of Sambal was also dry so had to ask for a curry to accompany. The rasam was good.
Nice cosy genuine Sri Lankan food on Tooting high street. The interiors are basic but nice and bright. The menu has all the variety you would want and the food tastes fine. Portions are generous, prices are light on the pocket. The service is excellent and the staff happy to help you navigate through puttu, kothu and adiyappam.
Such a lovely, delicious finding. The young lady taking my order was so nice , with such a welcoming smile and the young gentleman. The decor was beautiful and simple. The devilled squid perfect spice level and the fried string hoppers with egg, delicious and filling. Masala tea, needed a bit more intensity in flavouring, hence the 4 stars. Price excellent. Definitely would recommend.
Lovely dinner with workmates. My first time trying Srilankan cuisines. I opted for the chicken biryani which was flavourful- a bit on the spicy side, served with Raitha sauce to cool you down. Great service and atmosphere. Prices were very reasonable.
Great Sri Lankan restaurant in Tooting! Love Jaffna, love Sri Lanka love the food! Ravi looked after us and didn’t judge us for ordering half the menu, which only came to £23 per head!
Here you can really taste Jaffna's traditional food with the original taste. Breakfast, lunch and dinner, and dessert can be ordered in both sweet and spicy👍🏽🇱🇰🇬🇧
(3.5 stars if I could do a half) Went there for an early dinner on a Saturday, where it wasn't so busy. Really good food, not so great service. We're not that familiar with Sri Lankan food, and heard good things about this place. We tried to ask about the various items on the menu, but they weren't that helpful, even though they didn't have much else to do. We ended up ordering the devilled mix as well as the crab curry, and both were delicious. So much flavor in the crab curry, and even though the liver in the devilled mix was rather dry, the flavors packed in it almost made up for it. We got rice as a side, which was cold. The pittu was good, but it was our fist pittu, so nothing to compare against. Recommendation is to do your research, stick to the Sri Lankan dishes, and take away.
A chilled out restaurant, with nice decor and good service, but probably not the best dosa I've had in Tooting. The cashew fry wasn't anything exciting.
We had great expectations for this restaurant after reading good reviews but it was a very average meal. Mutton rolls with mainly potatoes and hardly any meat. The types of curry we tried were very average. The aubergine curry was the best and the fish curry the worst. The service was efficient and fairly friendly and the prices are reasonable. In my opinion I would have been happy to pay more but get a better quality and tasty dishes.
Half the food was tasty, but the other half was a little underwhelming. I really love Sri Lankan food (I go to different spots) but this just didn't wow me like other places. The chicken dosa "curry" sambar was delicious, but the coconut sambars and the potato-chicken filling in the dosa were kind of bland - they needed seasoning and the coconut flavour was lost. The dosa itself was delicious, light and fluffy. The mango lassi was incredible - best part of the meal. I enjoyed the mutton rolls but they weren't as crispy as I liked on the outside. This could easily be a 5/5 place if they just put the wow into the rest of the food, otherwise the service was friendly and attentive - nice people! Bathrooms were clean but the grout needs replacing (gone yellow) it didn't feel nice (I hope the restaurant can improve this). I hope to return again in the near future and give it another try.
I bought a kothu from here once and it was one of the worst kothu I have ever eaten in my life and I have eaten in nearly all Sri Lankan restaurants in South London. It was so bland and flavourless, even the colour was almost white. No seasoning, just taste liked nothing, it was disgusting. You can tell they didn’t add anything to it, it taste like something they just took out the freezer and microwaved not even freshly made. I had high hopes for this place as I knew they had a really good reputation back in the day. But I suppose this was 15-20 years ago and was before it got taken over by the new management. I just wish I had tried it back when the previous owners were running the place. Now this place has gone down the toilet and you will notice it’s mostly empty in comparison to the other places. If you want much better authentic Sri Lankan food I would personally go to Kothu restaurant, just a few doors down from this place.
