We took our team here at Christmas - I would go again. The service was impeccable, the food extremely tasty and a great wine list. I have seen a few comments about the prices being high and portions being too small - I do not think these are valid criticisms. I cannot temember the cost exactly but I do not remember thinking it was overpriced.
Delivering the highest standards of fine dining and service, The Pem is well worth a visit for lunch or dinner. The Headchief Sally Abe has recently featured on The Great British Menu, and it is not difficult to see why she is one of the most acclaimed young chefs in the country. My lamb cannon was particularly delicious, as was my lemon meringue, I would recommend both! At £170 a head, including 4 glasses of wine and 2 cocktails, it is on the expensive side but if you have the budget, I would encourage you to experience The Pem for yourself; the food was yum!
My birthday dinner at The Pem was an absolute delight. The food was simply outstanding. Whether it was the delicate flavors of the appetizer or the rich, satisfying main course, every bite was a revelation. Overall, my birthday dinner at The Pem was a truly memorable experience. The combination of exceptional food, impeccable service, and elegant ambiance made it a night to remember.
Had the honor of coming here twice in the span of 3 days. The staff is extremely professional and polite. It is evident this establishment takes pride in their food and service. Food is of impeccable quality and attention to detail. The meat dishes in my personal opinion were superior to the fish based creations. Lemon merengue was easily my favorite dessert. The restaurant is very clean and the decor is elegant and accommodating. Highly suggest you try this place at least once during your stay in London. However, it could take 2 visits to gain a full appreciation. Special thanks to Maciej and Allen for a friendly, personalized and accommodating stay. As well as a compassionate understanding for our special diet need.
The restaurant is inside the Conrad Hotel, near St James Underground station. I chose the 2 course set lunch menu which was £35. Rather than picking 2 courses from the á la carte menu the set menu features special dishes that change seasonally (although the vegetarian option was on the main menu.) After being greeted promptly and seated, I was offered water and brought some home made wholemeal bread accompanied by whipped butter with a herb oil. The butter was delicious, soft and salty and the bread warm. I could've easily made a meal of it on its own! I opted for the spring salad and roast chicken, and that description doesn't begin to do it justice. Everything was beautifully presented, the salad looked like a work of art with tiny edible flowers scattered across it. I'm not sure my photos show how good it looked. My server described the dishes and ingredients as they arrived, which I normally hate, but this was done in a helpful and informative way. The chicken was presented two ways; as ballatine with panko breadcrumbs and as a slice of thigh with lovely crispy skin, I wasn't sure about the inclusion of nettles when I read the menu but everything was delicious. Both the salad and the chicken were excellent and the portion size good (I was offered the dessert menu but regretfully I didn't have room to do it justice.) I chose a glass of white wine to go with my meal and the sommelier was very helpful as my wine knowledge is pretty much none existent. For central London the price of wine by the glass wasn't bad, it started at £12 for 125ml/£15 for 175ml. The wine was a new one to me and delicious, but I didn't think to note the name and now can't remember it. Throughout the meal the service was professional and friendly without being intrusive and I was addressed by name, which I thought was a lovely touch. It was the first time I'd been to The Pem but they made me feel like I was favourite guest. For the high level of food and service, and the atmosphere in the restaurant I thought it was very good value.
Had a wonderful lunch at The Pem! The food was of outstanding quality and beautifully presented — you can really tell their new head chef, Daniel, takes great care in both cooking and presentation. Every dish was delicious, and the prices were surprisingly affordable for the level of excellence. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a memorable dining experience. Compliments to the chef and the team for making it such an enjoyable meal!
We had a truly exceptional experience at The Pem. Both the food and the service were absolutely outstanding, with every dish beautifully prepared and the staff consistently attentive. Their thoughtful attention to my wife’s birthday made the evening even more special and was sincerely appreciated. Highly recommended for a memorable dining experience
My boyfriend and I came for the Thanksgiving dinner and really enjoyed it!!! I'm American and I must say I was quite impressed with the whole thing. The turkey was absolutely delicious - so moist and juicy. The cornbread was really tasty and a nice touch as well! I loved the decor and I absolutely adored that the food came out to the center of the table so you could make your own Thanksgiving plate. The Pem seems to understand the "spirit" of an American Thanksgiving. Some of the food definitely tasted distinctly British - the stuffing ball wasn't my favorite, which was a shame. Delicious stuffing could be made from just stuffing the bird!! The canapés I also thought could be presented in a much nicer way, but they were quite yummy!
Incredible. Swanky, moody and delicious: not just a dinner but a proper night out. The dishes have the detail and depth of flavour you may find in Michelin-star establishments and found some of the ones we tried to have the potential to become instant classics like the mackerel and lobster, both in the starters, beef in the mains and apricot custard tart in the deserts. Wonderful flavours, surprisingly well balanced: totally loved the way how the primary flavours were enhanced rather than masked by cooking techniques. Difficult to pull off and it was masterfully done, bravo chef! The wine list did what a wine list does best: it intrigued me (Orange wine from Greece? Yes please and fantastic!). Overall what my company and I loved the most was the vibe. We chatted the night away, with the music gently picking up throughout the hours we had been at our table and enjoyed a perfect service from the staff. The service was so good it was unreal: everyone interacted with us, special mention to James, the wonderful sommelier, and managed to never be intrusive. They were knowledgeable but most importantly, attentive. They punctuated our conversation, with humour and care, like in a well orchestrated theatre production: we eagerly took it in. Overall, it was an evening of light-hearted fun, the sort we had been missing for months and I'm so ever grateful for that. Well done to The Pem and wish you every success!
My sister took me here for my 30th Birthday and it was a real treat. We had the tasting menu, which was fantastic. Even though it was outside my normal environment, the staff were very attentive and very friendly, making us feel very welcome. I thoroughly enjoyed it and would love to go back!
We enjoyed our dinner at The Pem. The service was great throughout. The ambiance was very nice as the restaurant is divided into a lot of smaller spaces so it feels cozy. The mushroom soufflé and langoustine dishes were the highlight. Their house bread was also delicious! The sommelier was very knowledgeable while their wine list was extensive and reasonably priced as well.
Had an lovely dinner with my wife, nice comfortable interior with a fresh colour palette (none of the pretentious ornate stuff), the fishes were exquisite, starter or main. The pigeon was cooked perfectly and the mains were prepared carefully, plating perhaps a little more creativity could happen no rush, but…… OMG!!! the desserts were the best, forget everywhere else with any stars, the desserts are just incredible! Brilliant combination of textures and it closed the palate nicely. I think with a little more focus on atmosphere and a bit more reputation going this place is onto be a real winner. How exciting to see this moving forward. (Update 2023, this place needs a star! )
We had a lovely dinner at The Pem. The decor is beautiful and the music fit the ambiance very well. The food was excellent throughout. The amuse-bouches were thoughtful and delicious, and the quail and scallop starters were both inventive and savory. The highlight for us was the beef dish — perfectly cooked with outstanding sides, easily one of the best beef dishes we’ve had at a fine restaurant. It was one of our favorite meals during our three weeks in Europe. Service was mixed at the start, as we were seated in a central area but not initially attended to. However, when Maciej, the manager, stepped in after we asked about having a drink with our amuse-bouche, the experience improved significantly and became seamless. The sommelier was also excellent and very helpful.
A fantastic dinner at The Pem, the signature restaurant at the Conrad St. James. Named after suffragette Emily Wilding Davison’s nickname, this is modern, British food at its finest. Reimagined with inventive techniques, with a focus on seasonality and sustainability, the level of cooking was consistently high. We ate off the à la carte menu and each dish was both flavoursome and beautifully presented, combining a lot of elements which worked well together. The quality of the produce shone through. Service was friendly and knowledgeable and as the dining room filled up, there was a nice buzz. A very enjoyable evening. We both decided we’ll be back again soon. Recommended.
During my first visit to London, we chose to dine at The Pem to celebrate my birthday, and it was a truly wonderful experience. The staff were exceptionally professional, welcoming, and attentive, providing detailed and insightful descriptions of each dish. Since we were a party of three—including one vegan guest—we were delighted by how quickly and efficiently they provided a dedicated vegan menu. The food was exquisite; every bite was an explosion of flavor, featuring perfectly balanced combinations. Furthermore, the restaurant’s decor is beautiful and provides a highly comfortable atmosphere. We had a fantastic evening and are already looking forward to our next trip to London just to dine here again.
An absolutely exceptional evening at The Pem. From the moment we arrived, the experience was flawless, and it’s clear why this kitchen is held in such high regard. We started with Jersey oysters, scallops, and the beetroot tartare, all of which were beautifully executed, refined, and full of balance. The veal sweetbread, however, was truly outstanding – one of those dishes you remember long after the meal is over. Perfectly cooked, rich, delicate, and deeply satisfying. For main courses we shared the lobster, venison, and beef, and every single one was cooked at an incredibly high level. The precision, flavour, and confidence in the cooking were remarkable. The beef in particular was exceptional, showing real mastery and attention to detail. It was a real pleasure to taste food prepared with such care and skill. We enjoyed a few bottles of wine throughout the evening, which complemented the food beautifully, and the dessert course was just as impressive. The peanut butter parfait deserves special mention – absolutely stunning, indulgent without being heavy, and a perfect way to finish the meal. Huge congratulations to Dan Windsor and his team for such an extraordinary kitchen. The quality, consistency, and finesse across every dish was outstanding. And a special thank you to Sophie, who looked after us so warmly and professionally all evening. Her hospitality made the experience even more memorable. My girlfriend and I genuinely loved every moment of our dinner. The Pem delivered a truly special dining experience and we cannot wait to return. One of the best meals we’ve had in London.
Chef Daniel’s menu is nothing short of extraordinary! Every dish is crafted with creativity, precision, and so much passion that it truly shines on the plate. The beetroot with pistachio sauce was a perfect combination of earthy, sweet, and nutty notes, such an elegant and surprising pairing. The beef was cooked to absolute perfection: juicy, tender, and bursting with flavour. The scallops and venison were dreamy, melt-in-the-mouth beautiful, each dish showcasing layers of texture and taste that made us savour every single forkful. And just when we thought it couldn’t get any better, the lemon dessert arrived, refreshing, vibrant, and the perfect way to end the meal. The staff were warm, professional, and made us feel truly taken care of. The restaurant looked stunning with its Christmas décor, adding to the whole magical atmosphere. A memorable, delicious experience from start to finish. Everyone should go and try this dreamy food!
My friends and I had our Christmas Lunch at the Pem this week and we were blown away by the amazing food and the beautiful atmosphere. Every single dish was fantastic, amazing flavours and presentation with the highest quality and attention to detail. The Head Chef, Dan Winser is a genius and I’ll be coming back for his delicious food for sure in the future.
What a journey my taste buds had. To begin, the service was sophisticated and straight forward with the staff immediately ready to take care of you. The atmosphere is rather quiet and I expected a little more ambience, nonetheless the service surely made up for it. The food took me on a lovely journey, and I was quite lucky with my selection of plates - if I were you I’d recommend to try these pictured dishes in order. The scallop starter can seem very smoky at times but I enjoyed the unique flavour palette nonetheless. The beef was also delicious - but the lamb trumps it. A person at my table ordered the veal and was not very fond of the taste as it was quite bland. I did take a nibble at the apple tart and became quite fond of it. And surely, the lemon meringue lived up to it’s hype, it was light and refreshing. Although I personally preferred the earl grey tart as I do love earl grey. Lastly, I thought it was a nice touch to see women’s portraits displayed throughout the restaurant, perhaps to represent a feminist essence of the suffragettes? I hope to dine here again as I can see the hard work displayed in and out of the kitchen.
I was so impressed with the tasting menu! This is the sort of place that many overlook, partly because of the hotel’s relative obscurity. You could expect to be the only people dining here some weekdays. That does not stop the restaurant from executing an extremely high level of classic British plates, with a lovely and attentive team who explained the menu well.
One of the best restaurants I’ve been to in a while, delicious contemporary British food and top notch service! We had the brunt butter scallops, lobster and beef with a side of anne potatoes which were all really flavourful. Even the bread and complimentary petit starters were lovely. Thanks to Maciej and his team, would definitely be back!
Probably the nicest place I’ve ever been. The food is amazing and you can tell why they have a Michelin star. The staffs knowledge of everything that was being served was immaculate.
Exquisite service and presentation of contemporary British food are very worthy of many more stars. Hats of for this great woman lead culinary centre of excellence.
The Pem is an upscale restaurant in a Hilton Hotel. Do dress up in your finest. It's not a jeans/ t-shirt place. It's quintessential elegance. There are at least 6 servers taking care of you, all excellent. All female Chefs. Be prepared for a non-traditional menu with things like Nettle Soup, Lamb's heart, Artichoke with truffles, etc. You have to be an adventurous eater at The Pem. Dinner & drinks for 3 cost over $600US. My favorite dish was a Strawberry Cheesecake dessert. Over the moon!
Delicious and inventive. The winter menu was warm with rich flavors and pleasing match ups. Can’t wait to discover what surprises are in store on the spring menu!
Absolutely loved it. I've had food from Chef Sally Abe before at The Harwood Arms so we were very keen to visit The Pem and try some of her team's fine dining delicassies. The presentation of the food is stunning and the combination of British flavours are superb. The rose veal was by far my favourite starter and the John Dory was phenomenal as a main. Particularly happy with the John Dory as it is quite tricky to not overcook and end with a dry, chewy finish. The wine menu is ideal and there's plenty of perfect, affordable choices for each dish. I was surprised to see some sweet wines from southern Spain that one often doesn't see in London, such as from the hills of Malaga. The quality to price ratio is also really good considering this is food made by one of Britain's finest. Service was 10/10 which is surprising considering the restaurant is brand new and one can expect the odd confusion or delays here and there but we had none of that so considering we were a party of 6, that was quite impressive. Looking foreward to coming again. Thank you for a lovely experience.
My husband found this restaurent for my bithday dinner and we really enjoyed the meal. Food was beautiful and delicious, service was perfect. Such a lovely place!
Exquisite food and wine! . The service is exceptional and we opted for wine pairing to compliment our food. The waitress I assume was also a trained sommelier as her wine knowledge paired my taste well. Each time 2 wines were bought over to try and so you can chose a preference. This was based on the initial description of your taste. Beautiful decor and embiance. It was my birthday and there was a card signed my all the chefs which was a lovely touch as well as a mini dessert.
Food incredible, service very good and excellent recommendations from the Sommelier. It being Friday lunchtime, a bit quieter in London, but their set menu really worthwhile
I Discovered this place by happenstance and I'm so glad. I wanted to try British food that wasn't chips and chips. Great discovery! The ambiance was casual and upscale, the food was exceptional, the service above and beyond.
Wonderful food as always prepared by the talented Sally Abé. Surprising twists on some delicious classics in a lovely setting in the heart of St James’s Park. Always a pleasure!
Had a drink here with my partner as we returned to the Conrad hotel next door. The window seats were pretty for a relaxing evening but according to the staff, it required reservations and were highly sought after. The bar seats and the table just in front of the bar counter should be the next best. As for the drinks, they were solid. Well curated and executed by the bartender. The service was also attentive and overall, I had a good after dinner experience here.
An amazing night of great service and amazing food with a wonderful atmosphere. Staff very knowledgeable and friendly.
Came for birthday dinner and were blown away by the hospitality and cuisine. Tasting menu was fab!
What a lovely experience, delicious food and excellent service!
Had a lovely impromptu meal at The Pem. The service was spot on, special mention to the sommelier who recommended some great wine pairings. Cooking of the food was perfect for us in particular the game cookery. We will definitely return
Breakfast here was almost perfect. Service is brilliant, polite and prompt. Prices are on the higher side but you get what you pay for. A good selection of quality food and drink. The atmosphere is very pleasant and access for those with limited mobility is easy. Overall I would recommend visiting
Had a lovely birthday meal here! Food was stunning, unfortunately serivce lacked luster. Ambiance could have been better but hard to help in such a quiet area of London. Well worth a visit, but a shame the service fell slightly short of expectation.
Great food! I started with the asparagus tart and grilled cod for main. Everything was done beautifully with impeccable presentations. Their sourdough bread was to die for. It was very fluffy with a thin crispy crust. probably one of the best restaurant bread I've had! Service was mostly great. Everyone was nice and attentive. The somm though... May be it was a quiet night and he got bored, but he was quite a mansplainer. I ordered a bottle of white burgundy and his immediate reaction was to "warn" me that "this wine isn't very oaky." I responded saying that I know, that's why i ordered it. Then he continued to mansplain how wines are made and what made them oaky without prompt. I'm not sure what about me that made him assume I liked oaky chardonnays, or why he would assume that I don't know how wine was made. Or may be he was just trying to make conversation and kept me company before my friend arrived. Either way, I appreciated his company. But could do with a bit less mansplaining before dinner.
First time at the pem to celebrate an anniversary. Been wanting to try Sally abe's new restaurant for a while. Good vibe in the dining room and everything was very slick. Friendly staff and a great sommelier. Menu had good variety and the food was also very nice. Lost a star because its very very expensive. We had a good time here but felt it to be lacking for the price point. Not sure if we will return but worth a trip to see for yourself
In a nutshell: Nice decor but punchy prices and small portions! Approx. £70pp , excluding wine/ drinks for 3 courses. An evening of dining in style @thepemrestaurant @littlechefsally @conradlondonsj with our dear friends - an enjoyable evening of great company, Rhône wine, and food including freshly baked wholemeal bread with wild garlic butter, scallops, Dorset crab, sirloin with oysters, pork belly, quail, white chocolate dessert, light chocolate sponge, and cheese selection! 🙌🍷❤️😍 ... Chef Sally, you and your team have done an amazing job with the resign and was a perfect time to visit 2 days after reopening. Thanks to MD, Allen, and Valeria for your warm hospitality - and for organising dairy free versions of my choices for me (J) including my fab vegan chocolate sponge with raspberries & blackberry and raspberry sorbet & orange jelly petit four. 💚🤗
We were celebrating and after much deliberation thought The taste of the pem would be wonderful to try, after speaking with someone at the restaurant who assured us we would be accommodated when we requested halal meat instead. I had high hopes but the meat substitutions were really disappointing. Instead of veal we were given a spring salad which was mixed leaves with 4 tiny apricot slices. Instead of lamb we had steamed seafood and potatoes only as the sauce was removed because it contained wine. I had to request any sauce because it was just so pitiful. Staff and service were amazing, couldn’t ask for better service, but the kitchen let us down massively. I don’t understand why a restaurant of this calibre, based in London, couldn’t source halal meat options. The reservation was made 2 weeks in advance so there was enough time. I genuinely feel cheated and sidelined. I will not be recommending this restaurant or anything other in the chain because of this experience.
MANAGEMENT ARE A JOKE!!! I honestly didn’t want to post a public review. Let me first give the positives. The food, front of house and venue is lovely and something special. However like many reviews have stated it is ruined by the extremely rude and arrogant sommelier! He has no people skills and would even be out of place as a prison guard. Extremely condescending. Went here for my birthday and this man was an absolute joke. Furthermore what disappointed me even more both my friend and i said something to the manager on the evening we were having our meal. He told us to write to him with details. All we got back was he will look into it and he will look after us next time! I mean after a response like that do they there will be a next time! Such a shame as the food is incredible. Normally I don’t get put off by service to go back. But this time I’ll never go back
We booked The Pem for our anniversary and an early birthday trip after our reservation at St James Wild Honey was cancelled. After reading all the good reviews we were excited to try it, but honestly it was such a let down. When we arrived, the waitress asked what the occasion was. We said it was my birthday, our anniversary, and our first night away from our newborn daughter. She then referred to her as “it.” Not exactly the kind of start you want to a special evening. We were barely sat down before being asked what food we wanted, without even being given a chance to order drinks. The sommelier turned rude as soon as we said we didn’t want wine, even muttering something under his breath as he walked off. I’ve since read other reviews mentioning the same attitude so it seems to be a theme. To top it off, they took my partner’s drink order and completely forgot about mine until I had to ask. The food was just as disappointing. The canapés and starter were totally bland – the only flavour on my plate came from a single strawberry. The bread was honestly the best part of the whole meal, which says it all. After one bite of the starter we decided to leave. The restaurant itself looks lovely, but the food and service don’t come close to matching the price. I’ve eaten at Michelin restaurants for the same cost that were miles better. This place just isn’t worth it – I’d avoid and spend your money somewhere else.
