What an amazing time we had a Barang! The staff were extremely knowledgeable of the menu and ingredients, friendly and attentive. The food was spectacular - it felt authentic, packed a punch and they were generous portion sizes. If I had to pick, lamb chops, laab and scallop were standouts. Look forward to retuning!
Absolutely amazing food! Oysters, scallop and tuna just the best! Been already twice since opening, definitely one of the coolest places in London. Definitely try steak! Curry with figs and fried pheasant - is a must. Quality and service amazing. Definitely recommend
What began as a change of plans turned into a genuinely memorable lunch. We had intended to eat elsewhere in Borough Market, but with no reservation and a long wait ahead, my wife, our four-year-old son and I decided to try Barang upstairs at The Globe Tavern — a restaurant I had been curious about since first coming across them during their residency at Loop in Leyton. We were offered the New Year’s set menu, and when the chef noticed our son, he very kindly offered to prepare something bespoke for him after checking that chicken and rice would be suitable — a thoughtful gesture that immediately set the tone for the meal. Every course of the set menu was beautifully executed, with bold, vibrant flavours and the distinctive aromatic warmth of Kampot pepper that is so characteristic of Cambodian cuisine. The tiger prawns in coconut beurre were a particular highlight, rich and deeply satisfying, made even better by the toasted bread that accompanied them — much appreciated by my wife. Service throughout was warm, attentive and relaxed. We never felt rushed, and the staff were genuinely kind and engaging with our little boy, which made the experience all the more enjoyable. Barang wasn’t where we planned to go that day, but I’m very glad that’s where we ended up. I would wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone with a love of South East Asian food — it’s a real gem in Borough Market.
Brilliant! Service great and food even better. We had oysters, tuna ceviche, greens and the ex dairy sirloin. We finished with the sorbet which was one of the best I’ve had. One thing only, and I’m a wine snob - the wine list needs a bit of expansion. The gamay we had was pretty forgettable. It’s still a ridiculously good spot and I’ll be back there asap. Service great. Food even greater. Sort the wine menu and you’ve got a very high 9 out of 10 (there isn’t a 10/10).
Fabulous place - go whilst it’s there ! We had a lovely lunch - cocktails, oyster, quail, chops, tuna , greens and rice. Great food, lovely atmosphere and really friendly staff. I’ve already booked again with old colleagues
We came for lunch and we loved all the dishes and flavours. Between the two of us, we had an oyster each and then shared the scallop (great), raw blue fin tuna (fresh yet refined flavour), venison laab (nice kick), stirfried winter greens (SO good), fried half peasant (this was a decent portion), saraman curry with smoked chicken (great flavour). The service was really friendly and helpful, especially Mirka who was great!
I haven't eaten Cambodian food for many years so it was a real treat to discover this pop-up above the Globe pub. Everything we ate was delicious and prepared with love. Service was exceptional. I've already booked a return visit. I hope they find permanent premises after the pop-up is over!
Really outstanding dinner. The food is truly remarkable. Amazing flavours (order extra rice to mop up all the sauces) and super friendly staff who seem to really love what they do. Our favourite was the venison. Can’t wait to come back.
Fantastic meal! Cambodian flavours really shone through and service was very friendly. Highlights were the sea bream, pheasant, and the pineapple sorbet. Shout out to Tom and the team - all the best for the rest of the residency!
A 6* meal. Truly exceptional. Will be back while they have this residency and hope to be able to support the chef and team with a permanent location. Wondrous !
A little gem spot above the Globe Tavern pub, very close to London bridge station and by the Borough market. The authenticity of real Cambodian foods at its best including taste, presented in its finest. So unique and delightful 😋
A Cambodian Explosion!💥 If you're already a fan of South Eastern Asian flavours (think Thai and/or Vietnamese) you’ve got to try Barang. I’m a relative newbie to Cambodian food, but am falling in love with the open fire cooking, curries and the spicy marinades. I think Barang might be the only Cambodian restaurant in Borough, maybe even London. The flavours just pop and somehow manage to be both familiar and new at the same time. The restaurant is upstairs at the buzzy Globe Tavern right in the middle of Borough Market (Bedale St) and it’s a proper Borough foodie affair. When I visited I got a sense a lot of the customers were chefs or worked in restaurants and are the only people aware of this exciting little restaurant tucked away above a busy pub. Right now, it’s a chef’s secret. Having tried the food I doubt that will last long. Recommendations: it’s all extremely good, extremely fresh and the flavours just sing, but the Oysters paired with a baby Martini and the Half Pheasant in Khmer Honey were standout and definitely get my 👍
I don't ever write reviews but both me and my boyfriend agreed that BARANG really deserves one. Everything from the cocktails, wine, food and service was amazing. I eat out a lot and I don't think I've ever been as satisfied with every single component of a meal as at BARANG. We got the Lamb Ribs, Venison Laab, Saraman Curry and Tuna, - lots of different flavours and exciting textures which are well thought out and delicious. The desert cocktail is a must have, not too sweet and really flavourful Plus incredible wine !!!! which we were very happy about. Angus and Meerka were the best hosts and made us feel very at home
Delicious - every single thing!! Particularly liked the fried sea bream and laab. Tuna and scallops starters also v good
5 stars all the way. The food is amazing. Very interesting flavours and beautifully presented. I’ve not actually eaten Cambodian before so really didn’t know what to expect. What we got was tonnes of flavour with this just right amount of spice. Beautifully presented. It’s quite an intimate space but big enough for a good atmosphere. The staff were super helpful.
Spent a long evening taking our time to enjoy the food and ambiance at this lovely little spot near Borough Market. Amazingly friendly staff and owner, couldn’t find a single fault across the food and service. Definitely don’t miss out on the prahok ktis!
Amazing balance of flavours - one of the most interesting places I’ve been for awhile. Everything was done perfectly and you can see how much effort has gone into the food. Service was great too! Looking forward to their flagship restaurant in London
Delicious food and excellent service. Everything on the menu is fantastic, especially the martini! All the staff are very attentive and know their menu very well, and I think the prices are very reasonable for a restaurant of this quality. I recommend it to everyone.
Came here with my partner and 2 close friends. It was fantastic. The food was very flavourful, the people were lovely and it's a nice cosy space too. I highly recommend coming here if you're in the area.
Truly incredible food and every member of staff we encountered was a delight. It's very compact and bustling (noisy) hence the 4 rather than 5 satrs for atmosphere, as we found ourselves shouting a bit across the table at each other. We ordered every item on the menu with the exception of one, and only because it had been so popular that night they had run out. It was arguably too much food for three people, but we didn;t regret it. Go there ravenous and lean in!
Absolutely fantastic experience at Barang — an easy 5 stars. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ From start to finish, the meal was exceptional. The lemongrass martini/oyster appetizer was a standout: an original and surprisingly complimentary pairing of flavours— a perfect opening that immediately set the tone. The menu showcases original dishes with a creative mix of eclectic flavors, and every plate felt thoughtful and refined. The bluefin tuna with its complement of coconut mint sauce and melon was exquisite. The sea bream was elegant, delicate, and flawlessly executed. You can really feel the care and creativity behind each dish. A huge thank you to Angus and Mirka for taking such great care of us — their warmth, attention, and genuine hospitality made the experience truly memorable. Can’t wait to come back!
Had a lovely dinner last night. Food great, staff really friendly, great atmosphere and setting. Was a set menu but loved it. Would like to return and try the normal menu.
Wow - great to have the chance to enjoy some Cambodian flavours in Borough market. It was the opening night, and even with the teething tech issues the food (sea bream especially!) was superb. Service was great, and am sure will become a great destination. (Ah - and the orange wine works perfectly!)
Has to be the best meals of the year, even forgot to take photos as was eager to destroy the food. Every dish was honestly incredible with every dish a standout in its own right. No doubt will be a smash hit in the London food scene so get amongst it whilst you can!
We had an exceptional dinner at Barang tonight. Everything was flawless, from the location and atmosphere of the restaurant, the music, the aesthetic and of course the effortlessly cool team who made us feel part of the family. We started with the oyster and martini aperitif followed by a selection of small - large dishes, all were absolutely perfect. Our highlight was the chicken curry which had been brined, smoked and grilled and was the most flavourful and tender chicken I’ve ever had. I couldn’t recommend Barang highly enough, please do not hesitate to visit here as soon as you can!
Wonderful food, and super friendly service. Everything tasted fresh and flavours were subtle. Hope they find a permanent location :)
superb food and service — favourite thing was the spicy relish and winter veg. shout out to the chef Bruno, my dear friend and doing amazing stuff there, as always
Incredible meal. The hogget chops are unreal. Seafood is as fresh and well prepared as the best fish houses, but those Cambodian flavors take them to a new level. Well done!
Barang is outstanding! I have the annual duty of picking the location for my mates annual Xmas dinner, and they were all very impressed. My highest rated achievemnt yet. The team were very generous with us and had us onside from the get go. We met the extremely talented chef Tom, who delivered exceptional, fiery flavours. Which I expected as a keen follower of his cooking at Kiln previously. Our waiter (whose name I have forgotten) was also one of the most charming in my experience. You guys rock!!
Amazing food and very attentive staff. Loved the oysters, the scallops and everything else actually.
Amazing food, staff and the best food I've had in Borough market. Will be back.
Terrific spot - delicious food and great service; hope they get a permanent place!
Really fantastic - lovely place, great service and the food is amazing. Every dish was fantastic
Food was amazing, especially the laab and the curry. Great little spot above borough market too.
Surprise find at the top of a pub. Found out they only just opened - you wouldn’t know. Food and service were excellent.
It was one of the best and most distinctive meals. . .ever! Chef Tom Geoffrey has managed to achieve that rarest of experiences, exquisite dining in a relaxed and family-like atmosphere. Everything from the apertif to the dessert was next level (i.e., "I had no idea that oysters or venison or ice cream could taste like that!"). Angus and Mirka made you feel like a friend over for dinner and took genuine interest in your experience. If you're in London, RUN don't walk, to Barang.
Absolutely class. Tuna and Oysters personal highlights but the full order bangs. Would give 6 stars if I could
Really nice! Great to have some Khmer inspired food in central London! Everyone very friendly as well! :)
Great food, great service, great vibes. They are doing everything right to succeed.
Food was incredible. Service was great Mirka was particularly lovely. Special shoutout to Reny, Jimmy and Sarah!
Incredible food and cocktails too. Pheasant and oysters are an absolute must!
Amazing food & one of the best meals we'd had in a long time. Staff were very welcoming, friendly and helpful with menu choices. Food was quick to come out, some were even brought out by the chef. Nice explanation for each dish. Went for Margarita + oyster, mutton chops, prahok ktis, winter greens, laab of venison, saraman curry, pheasant and some rice. Thank you to the team!
Just a great pop up restaurant. Food is elite and reasonably priced. We tried most the dishes and you couldn’t fault them. Great service. The tequila cocktail was delicious if a little small. A great meal and memorably good.
Every single thing we ate here was incredible! The roasted scallop dish and the winter vegetables were particular highlights - but each dish was special and stand out in its own right. Really nice atmosphere and buzz, and lovely that the pub is below for a pre-post dinner drink.
This place needs to find a permanent home. Food is bold and flavourful. Friendly team (Rennie looked after us impeccably - easier said than done with a table of 7 nattering women of a certain age). And atmosphere is casual, buzzy and great music. Second time there and hope to go back again. Favourite dishes amongst the table was the tuna, pork mince and hoggett and sea bream. Happily full.
I passed by for lunch on a Thursday. The pub downstairs does get quite busy, but this is fully separated to the restaurant upstairs. The menu had a few tempting options. I ended up ordering the scallop, lamb sausage and the chicken saraman curry with rice. The food was really good. The scallop (actually 2 large scallops) came in a very moreish brown butter. The lamb sausage was nice enough without really standing out. The chicken curry was excellent and easily the favourite of the items I tried. Spicy and hearty with a bit of sweetness from the figs. Service was very friendly and reasonably efficient. The bill for my solo lunch came to £55 including a soft drink. Overall a solid new opening (pop up) in the area. 4.5 stars.
Really enjoyable experience! The food was lovely and curated with authentic flavours with a modern styling. Personal favourite was the tuna steak, only dispirited by the portion size since it was really good! The service was great, paid attention to explaining the dishes and gave some good recommendations. A cute and affordable bite away from the market madness 🫥
A really exciting find tucked away upstairs at The Globe Tavern. I’d give the service a full 5/5—the staff are incredibly welcoming, knowledgeable about the Khmer menu, and kept the energy high throughout the night. The food is a solid 4/5. It is bold, smoky, and definitely unique for the area. While most dishes were hits, a couple of the flavours were perhaps a bit too punchy/overpowering for my personal palate, but you can’t fault the creativity or the quality of the ingredients. If you’re looking for something different in Borough Market with top-tier service, this residency is well worth a visit! They're only around until March 2026.
First and foremost, the food here is wonderful - tasty, vibrant, interesting. Everything we tried (probably 70% of the menu) was delicious and I’d order again in a heartbeat. However, our experience of the service / management of the restaurant didn’t quite match either the quality of food or the cost of the meal: our table was ready 15 minutes late, neither of the cocktails were available and we were told there wasn’t time for us to have dessert (no explanation for this was given, and this was despite the lateness of the table prep on the part of the restaurant). If everything had run smoothly, it’d be well worth the price; at present, not quite - but I’m sure these are fixable issues.
I thought this was going to be authentic Cambodian cuisine, but it feels more like white guy went backpacking in southeast Asia and came back with an idea vibes. Food was okay for what it was, not bad value for the location.
