I was actually trying to head over to Coffee Station, but the rain started picking up and I ended up stumbling into Anna’s Joint on Pine instead — easily one of the best accidental finds I’ve had in a while. I ordered the Pine & 5th on sourdough (half sandwich) along with a tomato soup, and the combo was perfect for a rainy day. The Pine & 5th comes stacked with roast beef, tomato, arugula, garlic aioli, mustard, and onion jam — and let me tell you, those last two ingredients are what really make the whole thing stand out. The garlic aioli adds that rich, savory kick, and the onion jam brings in a sweet depth that balances everything out. Every bite was flavorful without being heavy. The tomato soup was the ideal pairing: warm, savory, and just comforting enough to tie the entire meal together. Simple, but done right. Anna’s Joint itself is a cozy little café. Seating is limited, but it’s connected to a bar next door, so you can spill over if the café side gets crowded. They also have a grab-and-go option, but honestly — I recommend sitting down and enjoying your meal here. It has the kind of atmosphere that makes you want to slow down for a minute. If you’re in the area, the Pine & 5th is absolutely worth trying. Highly recommend.
Yay! I now have a go-to for lox and bagels here in downtown Long Beach! I was welcomed warmly when I walked in, and after that, it was true love! The bagel was crisp on the outside, chewy on the inside. The lox was fresh, and didn't smell fishy! They actually did it with some fresh dill and yummy colorful radishes. They sell snack and beverages from all over the world! Had a really good atmosphere, to sit and enjoy my meal. I will definitely return!!!
Lovely experience here, both the little grocer and bar/restaurant side were delightful with a warm atmosphere. All the staff members were friendly and informative on the menu. The sandwich itself was delish and I wish I lived here to try more of the menu. Appreciated the fact that this place feels like a true community center/3rd space, with regular stopping in to say hi and people coming during the day for a drink and work. They also host events, which i think is an important factor of any neighborhood bar.
Accidentally found this gem on my way to the gym today! 💎 I played it safe with the Caprese Toast, but the combo of basil pesto, fresh mozzarella, balsamic, and tomatoes was anything but basic. So lucky to live in DTLB and have this right in my neighborhood. I’ll be back... probably tomorrow!
The only downside is I live so far away. My new favorite sandwich spot hands down. Explosion of flavor meshed in perfect balance. Atmosphere was laid back and chill. Would recommend to a friend and their dog if they ate people food
Had two wonderful experiences here. Lunch sandwiches were great! It’s such a cute atmosphere. Came back for breakfast. Match yum and breakfast burrito so tasty. All of the staff was very friendly.
If an Austin deli savant teamed up with an Aussie pub legend to open a sandwich-forward, beer-blessed haven in coastal California, you’d get Anna’s Joint. This is no ordinary spot—think: crisp tots with a vinegar punch and gourmet sandwiches stacked higher than my hopes for the Cowboys this year. The second we hit Pine Avenue and saw that bold green Anna’s awning, I knew this wasn’t just a pit stop. It was a sandwich sanctuary, a bread-based utopia, a leisurely lunch kingdom crowned with a disco ball and a playlist that felt curated by someone who owns both vinyl and a deli slicer. The bar setup screamed personality: bold signage, indie beer taps, retro snacks, and enough polaroids on the wall to make it feel like you’ve been part of the family for years. As someone who grew up Down Under and has deep respect for pub snacks done right, I made a beeline for the salt & vinegar tots. They came out hot and golden, with the perfect zip of salt and tang that hits like a nostalgic punch to the mouth, in the best way. Paired with that creamy herbed dip? Instant classic. Then I saw it. That unmistakable golden-yellow can. Shiner Bock. In California. No tap required. No Texas proxy. Just me, my sandwich, and a can of home-state pride sweating gently in the Long Beach sun. It was like seeing a cousin at a wedding you weren’t invited to, and hugging them anyway. Let’s talk sandwiches: #5 NEO-BLT - A love letter to bacon, avocado, and kewpie mayo. The roasted onion jam tucked in like a secret ingredient from grandma’s pantry, making this the grown-up BLT your inner child dreams about. #9 SPICY MO, YO! - This one strutted in with swagger. Salami, smoked Gouda, and pickled everything. The kind of sandwich that talks back and dares you to take a second bite without breaking a sweat. #10 THE TRACK SUIT - The classic Italian sandwich if it had a side hustle in motivational speaking. All the hits: ham, salami, and pepperoni wrapped in crispy lettuce, olives, and a slap of Italian dressing. This one doesn’t ask for respect, it demands it. #14 DE ROSSI - A love affair between prosciutto, mortadella, capicola, and burrata so creamy I had to pause and reflect. Finished with garlic aioli and olive oil, this sandwich deserves its own passport. Bonus points for the little pickled peppers served with each: small, fiery, and full of attitude! Patio Situation: This is where you want to be when the sun hits just right and the sandwiches disappear faster than your willpower. Cozy tables, laid-back vibe, and plenty of people-watching if you need an excuse to stay for a second round. Final Verdict: If I called Long Beach home, Anna’s Joint would be my default lunch HQ, snack stop, and Friday wind-down spot. I’d celebrate birthdays here. I’d mourn lost football seasons here. I’ll be back. With my wife. She’ll steal my tots. And I’ll let her. Probably.
Everyone was super helpful and friendly. The breakfast and lunch options are both great and the steak sandwich was soo good. Matcha was also deliciousssss!
Amazing downtown breakfast and lunch spot. It's rare 6 coworkers all agree where to go. It's unheard for us to return 3 days in a row to the same place but that is what happened with Anna's Joint. It's a bit confusing at first as there are 2 separate locations next to each other, one is a takeaway / bodega market and the other is more of a restaurant / bar. They have the same menu on both sides but the bodega side has a lot more drink and snack selections. Some amazing looking deserts that appear to be freshly made. This is also a full cafe with delicious coffee and drinks. They have mostly sandwiches, soups, salads, some other creative stuff too. The menu is vast and creative. They have about 4 different types of bread for the sandwiches and they are all fresh and delicious. The staff could not have been more friendly and helpful. They have limited seating inside and outside although most of their business seems to be takeout. They brought us the food as it was ready, which was a nice touch. This is obviously a very popular spot and people continuously were coming through. I will be back to Anna's and I recommend you try it as well.
I’m going to keep it semi short and sweet. Definitely one of the top sandwiches I’ve had in the last 5 years. I will not gatekeep either, because i made a couple of modifications. And usually i don’t do that my first time visiting a place but it was my birthday so 🤷🏽♂️. I got the pastrami sandwich, i switched the cheese from the usually baby Swiss to their spicy Gouda (WHOA((we’ll talk about that later)) and then of course I also added BACON. this was also on the focaccia bread, per recommended by a great staff member. The bread was delightful for starters. A very soft crunch on the outside, it was actually perfect. The spicy Gouda just meshed with everything perfectly, especially the bacon and the mustard. I personally don’t even like mustard like that but man, it really all comes together. NOW, something that’s not pictured is the whipped feta!!!! Idk why i didn’t take an image of that because it was quietly the star of the show. Of course i ended up dipping my sandwich in the whipped feta and it was immaculate. Definitely consider it just because!! Outside was cool, the drink selection was very fresh and i will definitely be back!!!
I've been coming to Anna's Joint since the summer of 2024 and oh boy! The Sandwiches are 5 stars delicious! I always order their steak sandwich and its meat is perfectly cooked and the bread is top quality. The staff is very friendly and provide impeccable service every time! The selection of drinks and unique offerings is like nowhere else. The owner Curtis is very friendly and has created an special place here in Long beach! Check it out today!

WOW - this place is the best. we stopped in today for the first time for my birthday after being at the beach. it’s so cute inside, i love the vibes and the selection of products they have. all of their sandwiches sounded amazing so we asked the guy behind the counter for recommendations. he was really kind and friendly and helpful - i wish i had gotten his name - and we ended up ordering 3 sandwiches to share and a chocolate chip cookie as a birthday treat! it wasn’t until we got back to the car that we noticed they threw in an extra cookie (a cornbread cookie - it slapped!) and a CROOKIE!!! (a croissant with a chocolate chip cookie in the middle AND on top) they even wrote happy birthday on the bag. it was so sweet and unexpected and made my birthday feel extra special. thank you anna’s! i love you and we will definitely be back
Ive been here twice now. Once to check out the booze fridge and get a cookie & another time to watch the Superbowl at their party they hosted! The Superbowl party was amazing! I loved the commerical bingo & other games they had available for the big day. I ordered wings, tots, and a couple of beers. Those mustaaaaard wings were some of THE BEST I've ever had. I can't wait to attend more events, try more beers, and try some sandwiches. Obsessed with this place!
It rocks! Usually my son picks up lunch before coming over to my place a few blocks away. The food is good, esp fresh--the bread is heavenly tater tots fun and tasty! Lunch is slightly elevated $$ for a whole sandwich, but I get two meals our it! Alternative choice is to either order half of sandwich or, hmmm, plan on an earlier visit because the breakfast menu give a punch for little bucks! The service was great when we ate there. Eating outside was a pleasure; my Son and I got smiles from mostly all the people who passed by. US? I'm a gen X who made LA my home in 1984. My boy is a writer as well as a millennial. I raised him on magic nature with a renaissance character and he's Vegan. We both enjoyed the vibe and after eating here 10+ lunches, there was only one sandwich that wasn't up to their quality, or perhaps it's cultural California thang. But ohwewise it's fire,🔥Ceck it out and let us know plz. 🩵🌹😋🦁 And a special "hello" to Patrick, my friend's partner who just started working there!
While visiting from out of state this place was recommended by a friend. We went for lunch and really enjoyed the food. Everything was fresh and seasoned well on my sandwich. There was a choice of bread or making it a wrap. I also enjoyed the wide variety of drinks available. I got a local cider. The store was nicely decorated for the holidays and the service was prompt. Seating is a bit tight but there's also some sidewalk seating if the weather is nice.
I asked for a grilled cheese sandwich, that was not on the menu. It was crispy and cheesy. I have been raving about it for days and If we lived locally I would go again. Husband liked the meat balls with the marina sauce. Our guest had the wedding soup, he liked it also.

Great vegan and gluten free sandwiches! The gluten free bread is so good. It can get busy at dinner time but its a fun place with events often. The breakfast burrito is great too and great for vegans and vegetarians. They also serve meat. The wine list is good and the seltzers are great.
Solid sandwich shop. I had the Nashville hot chicken and it was on point. The baguette was perfect. A little light and airy with crunch without being dry and flaky. Potato salad was good but not OMG need to have it again. Last note - I tried the Aussie sausage roll. This was also very good. I asked for a knife to cut it so we could share but it wasn't needed. The sausage was so tender the fork was all I needed. There are many sandwich shops in the LB area but this is the gold standard. I will absolutely be back.
The bread will delight you and every bite and crumb will nourish you. I always get the bigger size and have the second half a little while later. My favorites are the Tofu Bahn Mi and the Caprese sandwiches but all the food is excellent and the little market has cute items from local companies. I like supporting this cute sandwich shop - it’s quirky and the bread is delicious.
This place is a GEM. I feel like I’m in an indie film every time i visit this place. This place is so freaking cool. It has all the great classics for music and friendly locals and bartender/server. Very eclectic, warm and overall relaxing. This is by far my favorite sandwich shop in Long Beach. It doesn’t get any better than this place. I’ve had breakfast, lunch and dinner here and they’re all bangers. I have brought multiple people here and they love it just as much! I just haven’t had their pizza and desserts here yet but i wouldn’t be surprised if that was good too. This place is ALL about the bread. Any sandwich you get, you’re going to be invited to the most delicious holding vessel your mouth has ever experienced. The quality of the meats are really good and the balance between them are spectacular. My favorite sandwich so far is the Track Suit. Warm, savory, cheesy, soft, crunchy deliciousness! And that pickled cherry pepper is EPIC. I want one right now! Can’t wait to come back and try more items. Do yourself a favor and choose your own adventure here. From sitting inside or outside, it is always cool and nice ambiance; and you can always take it to go, the beach is down the street! They also have a deli shop where you can get cheap booze and cocktails in a can! I have also found new soft drinks that are now my favorite here. Whatever you do here, you won’t be disappointed, thanks Anna’s Joint 🫶🏻
This place feels like that friend who casually invites you over for lunch, shrugs it off like no big deal, and then absolutely cooks. One bite in and you’re wondering if they’ve been lying about their résumé this whole time. That’s the energy here. The vibes are immaculate! Great music, effortlessly eclectic, and clearly curated by someone with taste. Staff is genuinely kind, not performative nice. It’s a small space, so expect to eat standing up or outside, and yes, it’s dog-friendly… but this is Long Beach, so that’s basically implied. It’s a cute spot, but not in a try-hard way. The atmosphere pulls you in, and the food actually backs it up. Solid across the board, with a few standouts. Pickled Tacchino and Sticky Bird both deliver. Fugeddaboudit was fine, didn’t blow my mind. De Rossi is the star. Easily my favorite and the one I’d come back for.

People are friendly however food quality is down. Bought this sandwich for $12.. looks like a 1 min handmade from subway. Wasn’t even half a foot long.. I’ll come by for the small snacks but not for the mains.

Fantastic for takeout! 5 star food. I've had Anna's joint 3 times now. Once takeout, 11/25 (italian sub). Two dine in-- meatball sub 12/25, beef dip 1/26. I keep coming back for the great food. First dine in experience was fine. Quick register service, good food, nice atmosphere. Second dine in experience was absolutely AWFUL. The staff was blaring music over the speakers so loudly I had to yell to talk with my friends. Also the cashier was awol at the register for a good 5 mins with a line formed waiting for service when we walked in. It was so unbelievably loud in this restaurant that my ears were ringing after we left. My throat was sore from shouting to talk with my friends. There were two other people in the restaurant and everyone looked like they were trying to eat quickly and quietly so they could leave ASAP. On a Sunday, peak lunch hours, this place was almost empty. Eager to tell everyone I know to that while the food is absolutely FANTASTIC, they should avoid dining here.

This is crazy that I paid 11 dollars with taxes for a half sandwich and I get literally 1 salami and maybe a slice and a half or turkey. If this was the full sandwich would I only get 2 salami slices? Mind you it was supposed to have peppers pickles onions and lettuce and it looks like a child threw their leftovers onto the bread. Like how is this worth the money I spent on it. The people making the Togo orders should think whether they’d be happy with this quality if they paid for it at another establishment. If you look at this compared to the whole sandwich my partner ordered it’s night and day. I’ve been here before and ordered whole sandwiches and they were great but this is not what I expected. If you’re going to make the half sandwich half heartedly then don’t offer it.

I’ve enjoyed the matcha and sandwiches here before, but I won’t be returning after a terrifying safety failure today.Deeply disappointed in the lack of management and safety at Anna’s Joint. Today, I was targeted by a woman who screamed slurs and sexual insults in my face for 10 minutes. Despite the escalation, the staff never stepped in or asked her to leave. It’s a sad day when customers have to rely on security from a different business across the street to feel safe in your cafe, If something happens to you dont expect help. I’m 18, I was minding my business, and I shouldn’t have had to endure that while the employees watched. Even with a crowd of 50 people watching, the staff didn't bother to step out. Thank god for the security from the dispensary and the patrons from the bar /the guy across the street who actually cared enough to help.I will not be spending my money here again.
