My wife and I have been eating at Chucks for so many years. The food is always delicious. And the staff has always been the best. It’s very enjoyable to sit outside, eat and enjoy the beautiful view of the beach.
Very nice and attentive service. The Philly Steak sandwich, melt in your mouth, shoe string fries. My husband enjoyed his pastrami burger....OMG! Quaint place with nice Beach view, just loved it.
Just like an old beach diner. Cash only!
Old school diner atmosphere "cash only" Great Breakfast options that all tasted good, close to water, staff quick & pleasant! Really liked the coziness of the place & great location if you're staying in Belmont. Close enough to walk from our Airbnb.
Service is always friendly and so fast. Seriously you will not believe how quick your food comes out here!!! The pancakes here are soooo tasty. Cash only is a little inconvenient but great fast diner option in Long Beach!!
If you are in Belmont Shore you must have breakfast at Chuck’s. Luckily, we found this place early during our stay and have had breakfast there every day so far. The kids love the bacon and potatoes. Food is delicious and the staff is so friendly and obliging.
Great spot by the beach. Very local, patio seating friendly staff and good food, reasonably priced too
Service is definitely great, they are quick to seat us, ask for our orders, and serve our food. While the food is great and prices are inexpensive, I've gone 2x and haven't really felt it was amazing. It's good, but not a lot of flavor. Still, their service is great, and their super friendly. Even if just for the view of the ocean, come and visit.
Fantastic old school diner. Quick and simple.
*CASH ONLY* fyi. I'm a regular here, but they never disappoint. Food is easy and fast, coffee is great. It's one the only few places that have the diner feeling. The staff are friendly and helpful.
Chuck's never disappoints! I had a great omelette. A lot of places cook their omelettes with too much oil, so the eggs are greasy. Theirs are perfect, fluffy, and not greasy at all. Their breakfast potatoes can't be beat. Perfect location and wonderful service. Been going there for years!
Come here if you want to find out you've been receiving mediocre restaurant breakfast food and service your entire life. How am I supposed to go anywhere else now? Ugh. If the owner wants to take it up a notch, add acoustic wall panels to the ceiling for an even better experience for the customer.
Local morning breakfast nook. CASH ONLY!!‼️ They don't have fresh juices, so that's not my favorite and I don't drink coffee. Potatoes are amazing, all the breakfast looks good... Because I haven't tried it all yet. Nice portions. Affordable ish... You are beach front. Indoor and outdoor seating as of 2021.
Just had a great breakfast at this small place. All was fantastic - plan to come again. Only gave food 4* as if you're looking for gourmet, this is not your spot- it's basic diner and straightforward good food.
We visited Chuck’s Coffee shop twice while visiting Belmont Shores. The food is great!! Way better than any breakfast chain restaurant in the area. The staff is friendly, and delightful. The place is clean, and has a great beach view. I’d definitely eat here again if my travels bring me that way.
Our family always loves Chuck's for Brunch. We've been customers for over 25 years, since our son moved to Belmont Shore. We used to drive 450 miles for your pancakes! Now it's only 75 miles and tastes even better with our three grand kids.
This place is by far my favorite place to eat. Almost there everyday. The waitresses are AMAZING!!!!! Service is awesome the guys who cook are nice guys and make great food. The staff is super friendly and the owner Chuck is there most days greeting you with a smile and fist bump. Cash only but other than that I recommend to anyone whose visiting or need a regular place to eat. And by the wAy amazing views of the water.
I really enjoyed my meal, and I wasn't the only one, it seemed like everyone around thought the same of their meals.
Got the chicken fried steak and eggs, came out quickly and the food was hit the spot. Prices are about 3 to 4 more dollars than some of the menus posted on here.
A good place for coffee, breakfast, lunch, or brunch. A simple and charming 1960s American diner. Excellent service. The owner is always attentive to all guests' needs. Just a stone's throw from the beach. Ideal to seat outside with your doggie.
Delicious food! Great service and very friendly staff. Highly recommend Chuck's Coffee Shop.
Came to Long Beach to the SUBLIME mural to take pics 5/5/25 went to beach life festival 5/3/25 and Jacob from SUBLIME recommended this place to eat.Great food waitress were very kind great place Thank you all very much Brothers from Illinois
My wife and I went to Chuck's in October of 1985 while on our honeymoon. I wanted to come back again this year. Finally made it back. The food and service was as I remembered. We were not disappointed. Can't wait to go back. BTW, cash only.
Loved it. Ordered breakfast to go, the lady waitress who took the order was very nice. I had a mimosa while I waited. Not a whole lot of seating inside, kinda small but they also have outside seating. Food was good! Will def go back again wen in the area.
Right by the park and beach 2 minutes walk away. Food choices were healthy and comfort food. Can make changes per your diet. Friend switched out pork for turkey sausage. Service was wonderful! Parking can be had in front in limited spaces or along street side for free for 2 hour blocks of time.
Not your average old school coffee shop! I hit up Chuck's Coffee Shop in Belmont Shore, celebrating its 60th anniversary this year. It's a little triangle of a place. Looking for a spot of breakfast, I was taken by their fried chipped potatoes, a unique take, and one I don't see very often. I ordered my go-to dish: country fried steak and eggs. Boy, was I surprised at how delicious the steak was and even more so, the sausage gravy. It was the perfect consistency, thin enough to coat nicely yet not gloopy. It was full of tiny sausage specs, chunks of bacon, and even minced green onions...SO flavorful! The steak itself was a thin cut cube steak, battered and fried in house. It didn't feel heavy at all. I used the potatoes as a chip to scoop up my eggs onto, and then devour. The staff were very friendly, with one server who's son was having having breakfast at the counter before packing up his bag and heading out to meet a school field trip. Its a pure local joint, with many of the patrons chatting with each like they are there on a daily basis, which they probably are. I immediately felt comfortable. I lived in Long Beach for a few years back in the 90s and used to rollerblade past Chuck's often but never stopped in. I have been missing out!
My girl and I had been wanting to try this little spot. Glad we did! The food was good. But most of all the service was really great! My only concern were the flies that were inside the location, but other than that this place is worth visiting and supporting. There is plenty of parking near the beach. Short walk to the diner. I believe you can even had outside tables to eat.
I have been going to Chuck's for over 20 years. The weasel is my go to. Staff if friendly food is always good as are prices. If Cash only bothers you use the ATM or eat somewhere else. I'm tired of peoples criticisms when a place chooses to do cash only sometimes it's a matter of choice sometimes it's because they don't want to deal with all the extra fees that are charged either way if you don't like it go eat somewhere else that's your freedom choose to eat where you want. I love chucks I'll always go to Chuck's It's my go-to always has been always will be! That's just my opinion
My dad and I visited this place last week and had a pleasant experience. The service is fast and our waitress was on top of everything. She had a lot of charisma and was engaged in a conversation with us while still staying on top of everyone else's orders. Our breakfast was tasty and filling, although I thought the banana nut pancakes were going to be like banana nut bread. They were still good. I would recommend downloading a QR code reader on your phone before going because they don't hand you physical menus during these times.
Excellent breakfast. Scrambled eggs with bacon and good coffee. The location is amazing, with outstanding views. Waitresses and service up to level. Only negative point is they are cash only, but there is an ATM just inside the restaurant. They open early in the morning, giving possibility to enjoy the sunrise. A place to repeat and enjoy.
This is by far the best diner in the area. Me and the boys from work go there once a week. The cooks and waitresses are badass.
Very friendly but only got soft drink
Long Beach local breakfast and lunch restaurant by the beach. Inside and outside seating. Generous portions. Good prices. Great location.
You have the best view of ocean and pier with the beautiful landscape on the front of the coffee shop. The chalk coffee shop give you more space to sit outside of the coffee shop and do your thing. this is great Parking usually find easy but the Gym in Neihbor sometimes around 9 am it’s busy.
This place has been here for 60 years. Impressive for a place like this to be here for more than a few years. I got the Veggie Egg Benedict!! Great recommendation from our server. The bread held everything together with the sauce being a nice balance with everything!! My father and Uncle had the Pancakes, which were impressively fluffy and held flavor. The overall experience is a 5 star! Please visit this place when you are in town or live here. Don’t over look the amazing local places that are impressive for any culture. I am a huge advocate for supporting local and these people know how to do it write!! When you come in the door, they treat you like family. This will be a place I will come back to before I leave!!
CHUCKS Coffee Shop has been a Long Beach staple since 1964. Breakfast and Lunch served daily. Don't pass up a chance to try their "World Famous Weasel" it's Scrambled eggs, chili, cheese and onions. Be sure to ask for salsa to add to it you won't be sorry! Friendly folks will make sure you coffee cup is never empty and if you aren't sure what to order, just ask for recommendations they will be glad to suggest items you're sure to enjoy! Located between Downtown Long Beach and Belmont Shore just off the beach. If you want to walk off their delicious pancakes, the park across the street and the beach bike path are just steps away. Happy dining!
Great diner. Good coffee. Awesome service . We had breakfast and there was no skimping on portions despite high egg prices the menu prices remain very reasonable. Highly recommend for a breakfast diner experience. Loved the fireplace stove in the middle. Great on a chilly day!
This is the best breakfast/diner in Long Beach. The staff is amazing and the food is delicious.
I stumbled upon Chucks while biking along the beach. Super welcoming, old timey joint with staple US & great Mex food. Thank you!
What a vibe!! Perfectly located coffee/breakfast spot in Long Beach. The people working here are amazing. Shoutout to Enrique. Makes you feel like family. I’ll definitely be coming back.
I love this place. It has a down home feeling, great food very friendly staff. Great parking, and the food OMG outstanding. Recently went there for breakfast. I hadnt been there for over 20 years. Some of the original staff was still there. The food was the same as 20 years ago scrumptious!!! Thank You!!!!
It has a great beach side atmosphere everyone is very friendly. Its very relaxing and food is excellent.
1st time there. I had the biscuits and gravy with eggs and sausage. It was very good. Eggs were cooked perfectly. The biscuits were so soft and fluffy. Everything was delicious. Service was excellent. My coffee was never empty. I highly recommend. The only issue was parking but that's all long beach.
I went to Chuck's for the first time in November 2025 when visiting Long Beach and I loved it! Beautiful beach front location, excellent customer service (our server Riley was super friendly, efficient, and had great menu recommendations!), and absolutely delicious food. I had a sausage scramble with fresh fruit on the side and my sister had a simple breakfast combo. I can't wait to go back to this place! Highly recommend!! Bonus: outdoor seating for pups.
Great location! Great food! Free two-hour street parking right outside the door (if you can find a spot). This is a typical Southern California diner with great breakfast and lunch items. The coffee is good, too! Our party of four loved the omelettes and child burger! Important note: CASH ONLY, but there is an ATM conveniently inside the diner.
Friend of mine recommended this spot for some good breakfast by the beach that's dog friendly. Lucky to find a spot across the street. Staff was very friendly, food was delicious and dogs didn't mind hanging out. No to go boxes needed, food was that good! Service was awesome as well cannot forget the server's!! Return, definitely.
Emma, you are an awesome server, we had a great breakfast and you never kept us waiting. This was such a cute little diner over looking the beach. I loved the little fire place inside. The prices were perfect for the location and proportion of food. The service was wonderful, everyone in here is friendly and willing to go the extra step for you.
THE FOOD WAS GOOD ,BUT NOT THE BEST ! SERVICE IS SLOW ! GREAT SPOT FOR PEOPLE WATCHING ! COOL BREEZE OFF THE OCEAN 🌊
Great place for breakfast. Always has specials. Potatoes are super. Not like the greasy hash browns served at so many other places. Eggs always cooked as ordered. Ice cold milk. Coffee like I like. Pleasant servers.
This place is a cute little community staple. It's small and quaint with friendly staff, community regulars, good food, and somewhat reasonable prices. The restaurant has lots of widows with an almost 360 view of the beautiful surroundings. Fram all angles you can see the beach and the park and watch happy passerbys walking their dogs and enjoying our beautiful long beach.
The food is good but I am sad to say Chuck passed away. He was a great guy and always made you feel at home. Some of the long time employees are still there and are doing a great job of keeping the restaurant going. Great place to eat and people watch.
Good food at reasonable prices ($10-15 per plate plus drink). Can only comment on breakfast as I go there for morning beach walks. Service can be hot or miss, usually pretty good but sometimes servers can be overwhelmed and can't keep up. Server never came back to refill coffee and I wanted water and had to wave her down after she passed by a few times without checking on our table. Food was prepared quickly and fresh, no complaints with the food.
Nothing groundbreaking, but get good diner food right by the beach. Great place to being your dogs and enjoy a meal on the sidewalk tables. Servers are quick to get your order and deliver your food. They only take cash, so plan ahead to avoid using the ATM inside and avoid the surcharge.
Great service, great price, awesome place that's been around forever, you have to try it at least once. The weasel is great! Update: don’t order the food to go, the portion isn’t the same as dine in, they use flimsy cardboard boxes rather than tin foil tins for their wetter food like the weasel. I ordered the sunshine breakfast and the weasel and was extremely disappointed with what I got. By the time I was home ( 7 minutes away from chucks) the bottom of my flimsy cardboard paper box was so saturated it split open at the bottom when I used my utensils:(((( the box was soggy and mushy
Food is good, coffee is great. Service was less than desirable. Waitress did minimum effort. She dropped the check while we were eating, but didn't return to check to see if we needed more coffee or anything else until she saw money on the table. By the way, this place is cash only.
I am from Buffalo New York, and was visiting my daughter. I have been to this place before, Good prices, the waitress I had this time was not the friendliest, I ordered eggs benedict and she warned me that the sauce was a little lemony. It was more than a little lemony. It was overbearing and bitter. She seemed annoyed when I returned it after not eating much. I asked for something else like pancakes. This place is okay.
Food was bland, I'm sure that is because most of the clientele are elderly. I can always add my own salt or hotsauce. Not a big deal. No follow up service, the waitress came to our table twice, once to take our order and once to bring the check with the food. The food over course is overpriced as well. The only redemption for the place is the esthetic.
I had the chilaquiles. I liked the them. Even though, they did not mix the tortilla and egg together as requested. Waitress did not come by to ask if we needed something. Sorry...no tip. There was flies. And dead flies on the window screen. Since they close early maybe spend a little time to clean. The silverware was crooked. I straightened out. I think they make good money so, spend on replacing silverware. Thank you
Although it says LOCALLY WORLD FAMOUS" I'd personally say, it was Just "OK" nothing to write home about. Just simply Ok. I had the combo 2 pancakes, 2 eggs scrambled (dry) and salty Ham. My brother had the carne Asada omelette and said it was too spicy.( raw jalapeno) was prob the factor. No condiments were offered and the scan code on the table to open the menu didn't work for me so I had to look at my friends phone. All and all, I tried chucks gave it a fair shot. I wished it was better considering there were only 4 tables taken. The flies were enjoying my food more I think... The girl who waited on us was very nice. My bill was 34 and I gave her 6 dollar tip. After all. She wasn't the cook. I won't be back anytime soon. But you should try anything Once
Well for starters, no hash browns or home cut potatoes. The potatoes looked like a super thick ruffles chip. Not what I was looking for with my breakfast. Had an omelette with tomato, cheese, and jalapeno. All of the items seemed to get put in at the last minute and all in their own spot ( tomatoes in one spot and jalapenos in the other.
Not happy with the price I paid for breakfast. Not sure if prices went up drastically but I paid $37 for the weasel with a mimosa. That's a huge price hike. Don't recall paying this much for 1 person before. When I asked the waitress she said yeah we'll prices went up. The online menu shows $15.25 for the weasel and about $10 for a mimosa. I feel like I was cheated. This was my favorite breakfast spot, but won't be returning again.
Cash only! I was down in Long Beach in the morning and have been to all the other diners and coffee shops in the area, but for some reason had never been to Chuck’s. It has a great location right next to the water and there is a lot of free parking surrounding the restaurant, which is extremely convenient. It’s quite small on the inside, but they have a lot of tables inside and out and they seem to turn quickly, so you most likely won’t have to wait very long. The menu is pretty small but has a lot of good classic items on it. Our server was not the most polite and took about 15 minutes or more to stop by after we sat down to get our drink order and then took another long time before she came back for our food order. Everything arrived a lot slower than I am used to for the diner or coffee shop so that was a bit of a surprise. For my breakfast I chose the #3 Omelette, which is Beef and Ortega Green Chile and thought it was pretty good, although not nearly as good as other versions that I’ve had recently. The chile didn’t have as much punch as I’m used to and it was honestly a smaller portion than I usually get at other places. I also felt that the beef wasn’t seasoned at all. It wasn’t terrible, but it definitely wasn’t memorable and I would not suggest ordering it. I also was not a huge fan of the coffee. It tasted a little bit bitter to me so overall, I don’t feel that I will be back but would encourage anyone who is in the area to give it a try.
Would love to tell you about the quality of their coffee but they decide to close 10 min earlier than their scheduled closing time of 2:30pm!!!
We used to love Chucks. However, prices as of August 2023 are almost double what they used to be (instead of $30 for a breakfast for two, it’s more like $50– for breakfast!!) and they still expect you to pay with cash. We don’t carry that much cash and so we’ll make other breakfast choices now.
Awful service, average food. I left a tip to not be tacky, but I'm not sure I even had a waitress. I put my name on a sign in sheet outside, which no one ever checked or called my name. Multiple people ignored me for a very long time and never checked on me before or after getting my food. I had to track down someone to order food and she was rude. Yellow American cheese on a patty melt? Gross. Should have Swiss or White American or provalone. Would have been good otherwise, Salad was mediocre. Cash only which wasn't clear on the side of the building I was on but they had an ATM. The other side had a big sign on the door that I saw on the way out. Stars are only for nice view outside. Bathroom kind of ick.
Cash only business in 2024 is insane. Many of us know why they do cash only (tax evasion or running that money thru a funnel). So many digital platforms that make it extremely affordable to expand business and clientele. Suggesting that the ATM is inside is asinine. C’mon now don’t host an ATM and not provide digital payment processing for visitors. Paid $4.30 for my Orange Juice and left as quickly as possible. The best breakfast in Long Beach is hands down Jongewaard's Bake n Broil no ifs, ands, buts about it. Go there instead!
I finally tried Chuck's for a Saturday breakfast after living within walking distance for a few years. Local reviews from my neighbors had kept me away. Well, I should have listened to them. I sat outside on a gorgeous morning before they were busy. The service was pretty quick, but the food was average diner quality food. Once I was done with breakfast, it was a near-impossible task to obtain a take-home box and the check. The waitress was so busy socializing with an obvious local couple and they 2 digs that I was simply ignored. After several waitress fly-bys and 20 minutes, I got up & walked over to the other table to interrupt the waitress' reunion. To add to this experience, 3 hours later and my stomach was very upset. I won't be back.
This morning, I had breakfast with my wife here. We had a great experience with our first server, who had gone on her break halfway through our visit. However, a server with red hair named Gladys completely ruined what would have been an enjoyable breakfast. She didn’t say a single word to us as she slammed a water cup and threw our to-go container on our table, even though we politely replied thank you each time. Yet, it was met with a cold shoulder and no response. She was hospitable and cordial to all the other guests, laughing and smiling. My wife had never experienced such rude service before and couldn’t help but feel it was discrimination based on her race. When I asked the server about her rude behavior, she simply said she was trying to be efficient and serve all the customers because her coworker was on break. What makes us less important than any other customers? The experience has been traumatic for my wife, and I can assure you that we will never come back to this establishment. Unfortunately, one person can spoil what could have been a place my family and friends would regularly visit. I’m unwilling to take any chances and will find a better business to support. I would never want anyone that I care about to have such an awful experience. Lastly, my wife pointed out that our table was the only table not warned about street sweeping, which I had not realized at the time. Literally, every other table warned that they should move their car to avoid getting a ticket… except ours. Why was that? To say that the service is unacceptable is a gross understatement, and I’m heartbroken that my wife had to endure this. People like Gladys should not be working in the service industry, and she should be greatly ashamed of herself.
Don't eat here if your latino. The two waitress, one with red short hair, working at 11am on Nov 7 were being racist towards young mexican couple that weren't even in the restaurant, they were across the street at the park. Coincidentally, they were recieving a water heater from a pair of latino men at the same time. Clearly they have no respect for the Hispanic community. A couple of racist white woman just hating. Never eating here again.
Over priced bacon egg and cheese sandwich. Charge 1 dollar for a slice of cheddar. 15.00 WITHOUT the fried. Absolutely garbage. Only eat here if you dint want to move the car from beach parking
