I will definitely be back. This place lived up to the hype and the food was fresh and delicious. Got the steak burger added cheese and the Pumpkin cream pie. The burger was well balanced and all the ingredients were fresh. The Pumpkin cream pie was not to sweet and covered in whip cream. The crowd was a good mix of locals and tourists. Make this place a priority.
The Apple Pan is a time machine. You step in and you're transported to a different time and a different place when quality meant something. They do everything the same way they have always done it. The menu is tiny but perfected. The pies sell out daily. There is only counter seating, first come first serve. The staff is great. I believe a lot of them have been working at the Apple Pan for a very long time, because by all accounts it's a quality company that treats employees well. I love that this burger joint exists. It makes me nostalgic for a time I never knew. And it's absolutely delicious.
Been wanting to pop by for years and finally did on a rainy Saturday night. Just walk in, sit at the counter, grab a menu and someone will come by and take your order. Lovely staff and a warm cozy feel. There's a takeout window outside too on the side of the building. We tried a hickory burger, steak burger, fries and some pecan pie w/ ice cream. The burgers where hot, delicious, and beefy, even as a single, and the hickory burger really had smoky hickory flavor making it stand out from something like In N Out or five guys.. I would skip the steak burger next time and get a couple hickory burgers. The fries where crispy and tasty, and perfect after a liberal sprinkle of salt from the shakers. Nothing special, but no notes. The pecan pie was the only pie available that night, but damn it was so sooo good... It seems like they may use maple syrup instead of just corn syrup in the pecan binder... The filling, the crust, the ice cream .. just perfection. I'm not really a sweets guy and I have found myself thinking about that pie the last few days. They have gone cashless, so bring a card, but go here! It's been around for something like 80 years for a good reason.
Comfy, rushed, old school, touristy and local all at the same time and that’s what makes it great. Stools change over quickly and the loyalists know to ask for their fries well done and order their sandwich lightly toasted. I had the tuna salad on rye. Generous amount of tuna which was a hint on the sweet side with lots of crunchy iceberg lettuce. Ice cold can of Sprite, ketchup squirted on a small plate and passed down the counter. We didn’t need to order the fries crispy but I also would have liked them that way. Slice of chocolate cream pie to go. Chatted to a few of our neighbors. At 7pm on a Wednesday night there was a steady flow - 4 seats empty and within minutes full back up. My Husband had the hickory burger and liked it. One time my friend ate here, sat next to a big time director - even shared some fries with him and didn’t know who it was until he left. That’s the beauty of LA, you just never know. Next time I’ll try the egg salad or grilled cheese.
Not only the best burger in L.A. - but maybe the best in the USA! And great throwback vibe! I went back to the Pan for the first time in years - and the hickory burger was awesome as usual! I used to go here in the 1980s on a regular basis, always for the hickory burger (best in LA), fries, a doctor pepper, and a slice of pie - and I have never been disappointed. One of the things I like best about the burger is grilled bun, crunchy fresh lettuce wedge, and the melting Tillamook cheddar. The apple pie a la mode can’t be beat, and the banana cream pie is still amazing! There are other burgers and sandwiches on the menu which I have heard are delicious - but I always get the hickory burger! Almost nothing has changed - even the same waiter - who still pours the ketchup for you! Two updates since the 80s - it used to be cash only, now cash is no longer accepted - only credit cards or e-pay, and it used to be closed on Mondays. Also, the paper cone drinking cups have been replaced with glasses. They’ve added outdoor seating in the back. The inside vibe is still like stepping into the 1950s and a nice blast from the past. Seating is limited, but if you arrive early enough before the lunch rush you won’t have to wait. You can find parking on the street - just be careful not to park in a no parking zone. Pro-tip: ask for your fries to be cooked crispy.
Probably the best burger I've had in a long time. The relish was awesome in the steak burger though it didn't taste like steak, seemed like regular burger. However the hickory sauce in the hickory burger literally gives vibes of old west cowboy smoke. Simply outstanding. The parking is horrible, but still worth visiting if you want an awesome burger. 💯
The one. The only. The Apple Pan. Where the only thing better than the burgers is the nostalgia. And the pie. The pie is undefeated. Service is outstanding, so sit inside at the counter; it’s worth the wait. This joint is a LA institution that has been at it for close to 80 years… and hopefully at least 80 more. The hickoryburger & banana cream pie are unforgettable. Prices are good. Food is excellent. Apple Pan hits the spot!
If you're looking to find the top 5 burgers in LA, Apple Pan is going to be on your list. It has influenced many other burger chains such as Johnny Rockets. If you're into local film trivia, it was also the original location of The Peach Pit from Beverly Hills 90210. Come for the delicious burgers and stay for the equally legendary pie.
Great burger, more umami flavor compared to the normal pink sauce style burger. Good fries and I had the strawberry pie which was just alright. Dad I missed the apple pie No parking but not hard to find something. service was quick and attentive. style was old school including a guy reading the newspaper, as to the ambiance.
The Apple pan is a classic staple LA eatery. The atmosphere is amazing, I can smell it just thinking about it. The burgers are to die for, but the real star is the tuna melt (recommend ordering on rye bread with cheese & grilled onions) - it’s life changing. The pie is divine, I love getting the seasonal flavors! Their staff is so nice, beware that seating is first come first serve!! *p.s. I recommend ordering the fries well done*
Love their burgers and fries and 1950's ambiance. However I think their apple pie is supreme, fresh, not overly sweet, just the best.

Great place for a long time. They can make your banana cream for sure. The apple pie is great too. Also the hamburgers rock.

Fun! I only eat beef 1-2 times a year, but when my brother wanted to go to Apple Pan, I decided to go for it. I wouldn’t say that the burger was out of this world, but it was yummy. More notable were the ambiance and experience of sitting at the counter. Service was friendly, and the pie was very good!
The burger is like a slightly better version of in-n-out, thicker patty, not too greasy, bun holds up well. Wish it came with tomato. Love their slightly thicker fries. Their apple pie was standard. Their service is so friendly and efficient. The atmosphere has a nostalgic touch that makes it special.
We got the hickory and the steak and tried one bite out of each other’s. I personally preferred the steak to my surprise as it’s less sweeter and tastes more like a burger. But I would return for their vibes alone. It feels just like as if you’re in a movie with counter top seating. Also get their banana cream pie !
The place was very casual and what you expect from a pie restaurant. The hickory burger was pretty solid, but had too much lettuce (easy to take out) and the fries were pretty mid. The food food would be a 3 stars for me, but the pies were easily a 5. For what it's worth, the cherry and apple pie slices were tasty and great quality. The size is pretty good too so it's not like the skimp out on portions. I'm not usually in this area and so I'm glad I checked it out, but definitely visit if you want good slice of pie.
First things first, the service is 11/10. Best service I’ve had in years, so hats off to that! The staff was very attentive, always filling up water, taking care of trash, and extremely friendly. They even drew a ketchup smiley face :) Food wise, I got the regular burger with fries and the banana cream pie. The burger was solid but a little heavy on the relish for my taste. Nothing out of this world but will satisfy your burger craving. I tried the banana cream pie because I was recommended it, and even though I don’t LOVE banana, it was yummy! My favorite item was the fries—hot and crispy! I’d love to come back and try the other pies.

Cool, orginal LA vibe. No AC, the place probably has never changed and that's what makes it great. Ham & cheese sandwich was huge. apple pie with ice cream a must.
Covid casualty. Missing their best pie by far: Boysenberry - bring it back. ASAP. Need to open counter service again. Like the outdoor seating, but inside is what made this place legend.
