Great place. Love the Po’ Boys and the Shrimp Remoulade. Wine is a bit pricey. The cheapest glass of white was $20 last time I was here!
The Bywater is an absolute gem. The service is genuinely excellent—attentive, warm, and never overbearing, which immediately sets the tone for a great dining experience. And the food? I honestly can’t get enough of it. Every dish is flavorful, thoughtfully prepared, and consistently satisfying. It’s the kind of place that keeps you coming back, not just for one standout item, but for the entire experience.
What a wonderful surprise! I decided to treat my hubby to a southern dinner for his birthday. The food was awesome and the service was excellent! Be sure to try the Red Beans and Rice. Still craving the wonderful flavors of our meal.
Holy hamsters, this place has got the crispiest fried chicken (in lard of course) and sooo much wonderful powdered sugar on the Beignets, kiddo loved it. We can tell the kitchen loves to cook and the bartenders know how to make drinks. Highly recommend this to any eaters out there who need to eat! Come on!
The Bywater in Los Gatos is a must for New Orleans style food lovers! We had a slow cooked, melt in your mouth short rib with corn and crispy fried onions. It was absolutely delicious. It started with a dozen fresh oysters (three varieties, all incredible) and a cold Louisiana Amber beer to wash it down. Finished with heavenly beignets... HEAVENLYYYY light, fluffy, and even better with the chocolate sauce on the side. Our server, Mo G, was outstanding!!! She is friendly, attentive, and made the whole experience even better. We’d come back just for her.
Very cute and cozy New Orleans themed restaurant. Service was excellent. Food was fresh and tasted delicious. Drink menu was amazing as well. We went during happy hour and they had some great deals like the Creole fries and cup of gumbo. I highly recommend the red beans and rice, hush puppies and the beignets! Only downside was I’m pretty sure my daughter’s boyfriend got food poisoning from one of the oysters but other than that we have zero complaints, we will be back!
Bywater was recommended by a customer on a business trip. Great southern dishes with a twist, top notch cocktails, great ambience, and the staff is superb. Our server was particularly wonderful, taking care of many customers at once and never missing a beat. She not only hustled like no other but made some great recommendations as well. Lastly, I always look at how clean the restrooms are and, wow, were they some of the cleanest and well appointed restrooms I've seen in a long time. Can't wait to go back!
I wanted specifically, to try their fried chicken. It was good. Not great but good. Nice and crispy. Maybe a tad overcooked. We had the Shells and cheese, otherwise known as mac and cheese, lol. Again good, not the best I've had. They let me swap coleslaw for red beans and rice. That was very good. One person had the smash burger and said it was good. Another friend had The Peacekeeper, which was a fried oyster and shrimp cowboy and said it was good. The beignets were good and good coffee. Almost forgot, we also tried the hush puppies which were outstanding served with hot honey.
Delicious New Orleans style cuisine. Cozy atmosphere inside, covered patio outside. A very good selection of mixed drinks. We had the hush puppies, seafood gumbo and red beans and rice, excellent, and spicy.
All in all, it’s a great spot for a relaxed weekend dinner, especially if you enjoy a New Orleans–inspired ambience. The atmosphere is definitely a highlight. The food is good, but for the price point, it could be a bit better. I had the duck breast, which had great flavor, but it was unfortunately overcooked. My friend ordered a burger that was almost 30 dollars. It tasted good, but it didn’t come with fries. In my personal opinion, at that price, a portion of fries should really be included.
've always wanted to visit this place and finally had the chance. I was very surprised at how small the menu was, but I still managed to order some really delicious dishes: fried oysters and amazing fried chicken! For dessert, I had Beignets, which were delicious. For a one-time visit, this place is really good. It seems more suited for people who enjoy socializing and drinking.
Came here for happy hour and had a great experience. Food was delicious and portion sizes were big enough to share. Everything we ordered was delicious. Gumbo and beignets are a must if you visit. I would have given 5 stars if we received everything we ordered. I ordered coffee with the beignets but our waitress forgot.
Place is smaller than expected. They have a full bar if that is your fancy. We came a bit earlier and there was plenty of space. It quickly filled up after an hour so I would suggest coming a bit early if possible. Staff is very quick to attend to you and that was great. Ordered immediately and they gave us some recommendations. I immediately got the gumbo and I was a bit disappointed on how little of portion they gave you. I would suggest to get the happy hour cup of gumbo. My buddy got the fried chicken and Mac salad and he said the Mac salad was great and the fried chicken was okay.
Came here for a weekend lunch. Had high hope for the quality of food due to pretty good rating on google map. We were so disappointed with the fried chicken and waffle. Chicken was dry and the waffle is tasteless. Scone is alright but not that tasty. Pull pork - hm… has it better somewhere else….. anyhow, they have a full bar there, maybe it’s good to drink here instead, and order some food along with it.
As someone who truly loves gumbo, I can honestly say this is the worst gumbo I've ever had. The broth was as thin as water, completely lacking the proper thickness and flavor. I ordered two portions, and one of them even had a bitter taste. When I mentioned it to the server, they insisted that "this is how gumbo is supposed to taste." If you enjoy paying money for bad food, this is the place for you.
Service and atmosphere are good, and if you're just coming in for drinks - ignore this review and do go! BUT if it's food you're after - almost every dish, except for the dhrikoo, was mediocre to simply not edible. And I'm not setting the bar at restaurant level or the prices they ask - even if this was $10 street food, I wouldn't return. And I do like fried food, St Louis style etc etc. But they just don't know how to make decent food. Their signature fried chicken - OK crispy crust, but bland and tasteless on the inside. The ribs - don't "fall off the bone" even if you pry them off. In fact we had to return them because they were so chewy. The sides like potatoes or asparagus - sticky and heavy. Fried tomatoes - way too much crust can barely taste the tomatoes. And the list goes on. I didn't even bother tasting the dessert beighnets so can't comment on it. Sometimes when there's a one off dish I chalk it off as a fluke and give the place another shot. But here everything tastes bad (cocktail was good, though) - save your money and go elsewhere
We decided to stop here a day after returning from New Orleans because we missed the flavors. We got Gumbo, which tasted like it was cooked with three day old seafood that was left out. It had such an unsavory taste to it. I got the Muffuletta, which was okay hence the two stars. The Charbroiled oysters came out to the size of one oyster I’d get in New Orleans and with 1/10 the flavor and sauciness…$18???? what a rip off. I can get a dozen oysters there for $25. If I were them I’d cut the pricing down to $10 . I can get an oyster for $2 each from my local seafood store and they taste great. At local Oyster bars around here we get 4-6 for less than $18 dollars The beignets and here is what really made me decide I just had to leave a review. I’ve eaten beignets all over New Orleans, and I tell you what, if people were served these there, this restaurant would be shut down. Service was mid and they forgot we even wanted beignets when they were about to hand us the check, even though they asked us if the beignets should come after the main course and we said yes They were soggy and undercooked, and in fact were so bad I decided to book a trip back to New Orleans to cleanse my pallet with authentic beignets.
