I have a gluten allergy but staff are very nice that explained to me which has gluten or not. I ordered beef negitan, rice without yakitori souse and salad with lime dressing! The Karaage are not gluten free but this is for my husband:) Very clean inside and bathroom. So delicious 😋. Thank you very much!!
Grabbed some takeout from here since it was walking distance to my hotel and I'm glad I did. Everything I had was very good, but the nasu agebitashi (marinated cold eggplant) was absolutely delicious. The grilled saba in my bento was also notably good, and the various yakitori skewers were all above average, as well. The soboro rice is worth the $2 upcharge, as well. It was pretty good and plentiful. The only thing I'd mention otherwise is it's a tad pricy for takeout, but with the current 20% discount for online orders, it was a great deal. I may even eat there again this evening.
Ordered a simple meal and it's a pretty solid spot. Prices are slightly lower then the norm now a days so that's also a plus. The miso soup was excellent. For their skewers the chicken was the stand out while the pork and beef being fine. Took a few more minutes then most lunch spots but it's all made fresh so it's justifiable.
Awesome Bentos to go. Can't go wrong with A, B, C or Delux, Umami in every bite and it brought me back to Japan for that moment. I preferred rice with egg (Ontama) and Nasu (eggplant) was deliciously soft and tasty. All the salad dressings were good but I preferred citrus.
They have a wide variety of skewers to choose from, including chicken, beef, pork, and vegetables. The skewers are all grilled to perfection and have a delicious smoky flavor. Price is reasonable :)
Much better bento than I expected. You get to choose the main skewer, rice and a side. Payment terminal was a bit weird. They say that occasionally master cards get rejected so I should use Visa card when using Apple Pay.
Excited that Sumiya finally came to Milpitas. We used to go to the one in Santa Clara! The food quality is as good as the one in the original store! However, it would be great if they provide more variety of bentos with different skewers combination or the a la carte options. But overall it was great! Highly recommend it!
We ordered skewer C and deluxe bento. This was our fifth or sixth visits! Really like their skewers and combinations with side dishes. Recommend to try the rice with egg!!
Cool new yakitori/skewer bento spot. I like the chicken yakitori and the grilled saba. So tasty and there is plenty of seating inside.
Not a long wait. The skewers (pork belly) were good, as was the agedashi tofu appetizer.

Authentic Japanese touches: daikon oroshi with the saba, okra with the rice, style of tsukemono. The taste is also very good and grilling is to perfection: the saba, the beef, the pork belly all came out with just the right sear and crisp and soft juicy insides. The sides were all good: we got the saba and the nasu (eggplant). The ramen is very simple in a good way, not complicated or overly seasoned. Everything is balanced and refreshing. Highly recommended. More people should appreciate this quality you get for the price here!
Everything in the combo is good: rice, salad, side dishes, and the skewers. The portion is very generous. I like the skewer bento concept too because I haven't seen any bento restaurant that offers the main dish as skewers. Highly recommend and I will definitely be back.
I ordered the skewers b, egg with rice, and chicken karaage. From the pictures, it looked like it wouldn’t be all that filling but as I started to eat the food, I was instantly filled up. Overall, it was pretty cheap and delicious!

Very solid bento at a reasonable price! I had chicken wings and chicken thighs - both pretty good. Appetizer (eggplant) and pickled veggies (cucumber?) tasty too. Staff very friendly :) I think the food quality here is as good as a lot pricier places like Enko.
I'm a fan of SUMIYA YAKITORI in Sunnyvale. I do however like this concept...a sister restaurant... Well more like a little sister...lol. I hope they make it...the last few restaurants in this location didn't survive. This shopping center got hit hard during the pandemic...I remember struggling to find parking during lunch or dinner hours. Now there is plenty of parking, I reckon most of the surrounding companies are employing the hybrid work model... therefore the food traffic is not the same as before. Sumiya Bento is a fast casual venue, unlike it's older sibling SUMIYA YAKITORI. Food is tasty and portions are a good size, but it does take some time to make. I think our food took about 10-15 min to come out and we were the first people in the restaurant. All the combos are custom...pick and choose type of menu. My biggest complaint is the the strong dislike for the all plastic packaging. Bento time: ~ Bento B w/ Ontama Rice, Nasu Agebitashi & Ume Miso Dressing - 4/5 I do wish the skewers were a little bit bigger though...I feel they are on the smaller side. Eat the beef on first...doesn't taste the same when it cools down...in fact it's not good cold. Everything else was brilliant! the dressing and the sauces had great flavor. I'll be back...
"Grilled skewer bento" is what made me want to try out this place. Various combos of skewers come with a choice of appetizer (I chose fried chicken), salad with choice of dressing (in my case, Miso) and rice options (my plain rice did come with an okra and pickled eggplant) and everything is counter service. If you want miso soup, it is a $1.50 add on. Limited seating but at 11:45, it was easy to get a table for 4. Everything was fresh and tasty but the rice is mushy and was my least favorite part of the meal.

Wasn’t thrilled they asked for tip, but we have to bring everything to the table ourselves. I spilled my soup… I’d recommend setting the tip recommendations to something like 3%, 5%, and 10%. Poor experience to pay 15% tip and then have to pick up (and drop off!!) your own food

Straight forward walk up (order at the counter) place that serves Yakitori style bento. Select your protein (skewered meats, seafood or tofu), select your sides and rice. Seating is basic cafeteria style and they will call out your number when your food is ready to pick up. Our meats were on the salty side but tender. Overall rather pedestrian, and probably best as a quick lunch option.
Service was great 👍, Ramen: broth tested like condiments solved in water from tap, noodles and beef weren ok. The fried chicken was poorly fried. The local smells like and old humid place and the dinning tables were sticky, restroom was super clean tho.

U tip for serving yourself. Pickup your own food, clean your own table, get your own water.
Kinda has a lighter fluid gas type taste for the meat. One piece of meat I got was cold and rubbery it felt like they took it out the fridge and forgot to warm it up. Not for me.
