I ordered the Baja Bowl at Islands in The Shops at Mission Viejo mall, and it turned out to be a solid, satisfying choice. The bowl arrived fresh and well-assembled, with spicy chicken that was notably tender—juicy without being greasy—and evenly seasoned. The supporting cast did its job well. The pico de gallo was bright and fresh, the rice properly flavored rather than bland filler, and the smashed beans added a welcome creamy contrast. A blend of jack and cheddar cheese brought richness, while green cabbage added crunch. The sherry-lime seasoned tortilla strips were a smart touch, giving the bowl texture and a subtle tang without overpowering anything else. Everything came together nicely once mixed with the salsa verde, which tied the flavors together with a mild, zesty kick. The Baja Bowl is fully customizable, offering a choice of protein such as chicken or steak, built over white rice with beans, cheese, cabbage, tortilla strips, and pico de gallo. At around $16.39+, it’s priced like a modern casual-dining bowl—on the higher side, but filling, with calorie counts ranging from roughly 940 to 1,050 depending on protein choice. Overall, it’s a flavorful, well-balanced option if you’re looking for something hearty but fresh while shopping at the mall—more satisfying than typical food-court fare and the service & dish presentation were as expected.
We had a wonderful lunch at Islands in Mission Viejo. Kyle and Lena were both amazing and provided quality service. My wife and I both ordered the beach bowl and they were fantastic. Good food, people and ambiance. Highly recommended
Food came out nice and hot. Order the Hula burger. It was very juicy. French fries were hot and crispy. Got ranch dressing on the side for dipping. The food was wonderful but the service was very slow.
Summary: Amazing food, Amazing Staff, and great atmosphere with quick service at a fair price. Details: Our server was very attentive to our party and was very professional. The food was cooked to perfection and was some of the best food that I have had in quite awhile. Service was quick and atmosphere was good. It was about 80% capacity and not crowded. Surprisingly, we were seated almost immediately.
Northshore tacos were ok. I wish i hadnt off poured the salsa on it - it tasted like a canned salsa. Hawaiian burger was fabulous but order it with white bun - wheat was overpowering in flavour unless thats your jam. Initial greeting was friendly and we were quickly seated. Food was fast, but we did show up on a Monday just before a dinner rush so it may not always be so quick. My only negative was the salsa and the fact that our waiter did not refill our drinks once. We ate slowly and hung out for a bit, nothing. Rule number #1 for good tips, keep the drinks full. In the end, I would return but we wouldn't get tacos again and wed be more pushy on water and drink refills if necessary.
As far as mid range burger places go, this place is great. Very affordable, hefty portion sizes, accommodating wait staff. Bree is our favorite bartender, she does an incredible job and takes such good care of us. This is one of our favorite spots to go with friends and family
Too pricy! For the quality you get is a rip off! American food not nutritional enough yet so pricy even during happy hour!

Wow! What a great time. Sat with my sister in the bar area and watched football. Screens everywhere! I had the Hula burger. Best burger I have had in a lone time! Waitress was perfect.

An ok overall experience, good but nothing special. There was no waiting to be seated today Saturday around 2 pm. They were a bit busy but it was not crowded. The front host and the waiter were ok, not too friendly, but still very polite. The food order and drinks were served accurately and pretty quickly. The food was good, as usual. Tasted fresh and very flavorful. Fries were nice and crispy. My crispy chicken was so delicious hahaha! Good atmosphere overall!
Good location in a mall luckily right outside. Found parking. Good customer service. Good sliders.
Dine late on a Sunday at the right price. The burgers are huge and affordable, the service is friendly and fast. Even the kids size burger was massive. Thank you!
Had a good dinner as we were charging at the Superchargers right outside. Convenience was definitely a high priority and this hit the mark. Kids burger was sans lettuce and tomato 😞 I had the fried chicken salad, which was tasty. Husband had the fish tacos and said “they are ok”.
The big wave burger and Tiki Tenders are some nice Islands favorites that I enjoyed. It’s a nice vibe in the restaurant with dim lighting and the server was pretty good. An overall enjoyable experience, although the wow factor for food and drinks could be a little better. Place for the family for friends in the Mission Viejo mall.

The service was great! She didn't bug us but was attentive. We got the wave, burger and fries. The burger was delicious. The fries were cooked perfectly, and there were plenty, the most fries I ever got with a meal. We took Half of it home for dinner... We started with a strawberry lemonade for our drink (refills were free)

Islands used to be one of our favorite casual restaurants. Recently the quality of their food has diminished and the cost hone up. We l9ve the atmosphere, and we had good service. Today we started with Islans Nachos (witout jalapeños) they were fantastic. For lunch my daughter and I both ordered the "Mainlander Salad". It was dreadful!! The chicken was pink, it tasted like canned chicken. There was a lot of junk in this "Salad" barely any lettuce. In the description its sausage mixed greens. I asked if there was red cabbage in it and the answer was no, but in fact there was more "red cabbage" then "mixed greens". I can not eat red cabbage. Servers should be educated on what is in the food. I find most people dont b even know what red cabbage is because its purple. I spent so much time pick8ng it out of my Salad it was ridiculous. Then I figure out the chicken is gross, and the "salad" was greasy tasting. We left feeling gassy and bloated, by late night we were both horribly sick!!! Diarrhea and vomiting all night!! This was a horrible and costly (almost $45 with water to drink!) lunch!!

Great food, but just be ready to spend an easy hour+ for the whole experience . Everyone seems to take their sweet time between first seeing you, taking your order and following up for the check.

Our last visit was shocking. Food had to be sent back 3 times.. two burgers was the total order so not complicated at all! Couldn’t get the right bread on one burger, couldn’t get the right meat cooking preference on both burgers, (they switched the one with well done with the one medium and Vice Versa) we also asked for fries no salt and we got fries noticeably salty. The cook was either dyslexic or on a substances. Ruined my Saturday because my wife gets triggered by wrong order type stuff. Also my Bloody Mary was without olives which I’ve had plenty of times here with olives before. The server was nice but that’s all. Edit: My wife asks for her burger to go, we get back home, and the burger has the wrong bread!!!! I am so glad we didn’t leave a tip because that would added even more insult to injury

Came in at 8.51(9 minutes before closing) to grab a shake really quick. When I entered, I let the host know that I want to grab a to-go item, but for some reason she seated me at the table. I waited server for 10 minutes(it was already 9.01) to get “Oh, they actually just closed the shake machine” from her. Got a ruined evening because of the ignorance of the staff members.
We had an older serverer who was rude from the beginning. She sat us down near a back window and there were little bugs crawling on the window sill. I asked to move. The kids macaroni and cheese was dry and the French fries were overdone with some being burnt. I had to ask for straws for the kids. When she brought me our check she Stood over me watching what I was doing. Very disappointing .
