We really enjoyed our night at the chart house! We were recommended to eat here by a local and we were not disappointed at all. The food is a little more expensive then my wife and I usually splurge for but the views : dolphins seals and sea otters playing out the window next to you were amazing. The food was beautiful as well. We said it was my mother's birthday and they treated her to a very simple elegant and not awkward experience that she loved. The only negative is at the end of this almost magical evening the waiter tried to get us to buy some type of dining package for other restaurants. This made the end of the meal a little bit awkward and we lost some respect for our server server we had loved up into that point.
Birthday dinner was fabulous. Service was really good. And atmosphere was delightful. Thank you chart House or wonderful time.
Great Dining experience! The food was very good, Makaila our server was great! Very sweet and attentive to our needs. I dine out a lot and the price for the food is fair. I saw some of the other reviews on here that complained about price and they must not dine out often. I had the sword fish per her recommendation and it was very good! Mushrooms and the chopped salad were yummy too! Thank you!
Absolutely beautiful. Went with my wife for our one year anniversary. Our server Jairo was fantastic and took really good care of us. The view was romantic, the food sublime and the experience unforgettable
The plates of food are phenomenal and the deserts were amazing. Bianca was the star of the show! If you have the chance of coming ask for her!!
Had a wonderful meal for Christmas Eve. We both had fish and Chef cooked them to perfection. Brian was our server who was excellent!
Excellent seafood culinary experience with subtle flavors that marry well. The ambiance is dark and cozy with a 70s vibe and the staff are polite and professional. The menu does change, so what you see listed on Google menus may not actually be available (the cioppino had been switched for a while soup) and many of their wines weren't available (the menus need to be updated), but overall excellent experience. Ask for a window table if available, but even the inside tables are nice. We loved the Apple King Salmon and Mango Mahi entrees and the lava cake dessert. Make a reservation if going on a weekend night.
Zane rocked! All of the staff were hustling and super friendly. We had a great time on an extremely busy night. We will definitely be coming back!
Incredible honeymoon trip dinner out here. It was very busy, we tried sneaking in a bit early and was told we probably would need to wait until our reservation understandably, but they let us grab a high top at the bar for appetizers and drinks which was awesome. We got a few apps and drinks which were great and Alexis did a great job taking care of us and giving us the preview of the menu. Once we got seated we ordered some soup, dinner, and dessert, the food was all fantastic. Christian was also very attentive as well, the view was outstanding, everything was top notch. Highly recommend.
A fantastic night at Chart House tonight. First, let’s start with outstanding service. Garrett was our waiter, and he provided us with terrific service. He was very friendly, and took great care of us. We started with the roasted beet salad. It was splendid. For entrees my wife thoroughly enjoyed the coconut crunchy shrimp. And I had the fantastic dish Mac Nut Mahi. Both dishes had extraordinary flavors We finished dinner with ice cream and decaf coffee. It was a perfect night.
Came here for my birthday and could not have asked for a better experience. I got the prime rib and I like it rare (practically mooing) and the cut was just spectacular. We got the lava cake for dessert even though we were full and have no regrets! (Just make sure you order ahead of time because it takes 30 min to bake!) But the best part of night? Our server, Richard. He was attentive and so wonderfully charming and helpful. He really ensured our night was a success. I highly recommend Happy Hour as well! Just overall a great spot for a great meal and top noch service.
William was great. The whole staff was on top of it, food and drinks were also delicious. Can't wait to come back. P.s. the view was next level.
Great food & ambiance with a view of the bay. Very friendly staff. Our waiter made great food suggestions & was very informative. Great location with a parking lot across the way. We enjoyed our dinner while watching the sea lions playing in the water. I have never been to the one in Dana Point, which is closer to where I live & I will be going there for sure, now that I know what the food is like.
The salad bar was amazing and our server, Anolson was very accommodating and nice! Would definitely come again :)
Chart house is wonderful, the views and the food combine to create a heady experience. The steak is tender and flavored to perfection and the rice is incomparable. You sit over the water and watch the sun set, listening to the waves crash along the rocks. The servers are professional and courteous and probably some of the best service I have encountered. I would recommend you try Chart House if you are in Monterey, well worth the experience.
Fantastic dinner and great service! I was on a business trip for a Realtor Conference and managed to get a reservation here on Valentine's Day! I had the filet with a starter salad. The food was delicious and my server was very attentive. The rooms and bar were very nicely appointed and the salad bar is something you don't see very often anymore, so that was a welcome site. If I had more time, I would have come back for that. There were only two negatives for me. The first one, which is outside of their control, was that it was pitch black dark outside by the time I had dinner after my evening meetings, so I was not able to see what I suspect was a fantastic view. Unfortunately, they are not open for lunch, so I couldn't see it then. The second is that they were the only restaurant that I visited during my trip that did not have a cash discount. Most of the shops, whether it be restaurants or souvenir stores had a cash discount, which is very nice to see. Aside from that, I had a very enjoyable dinner and recommend this restaurant.
I went with my husband to today not knowing what to expect and I can honestly say Thanks to our Server Amy we had the best experience. We had great food recommendations as well as wine. She was very attentive and fun and we will definitely be coming back 🤍 and as someone sober the selections of non-alcoholic drinks was a plus!
I made reservations, and I was delighted to find that the table was ready for us as soon as we arrived. The restaurant boasts an extensive drink selection, offering a wide array of options to suit different preferences. And when it comes to appetizers, they truly shine, with some amazing choices that set the tone for an exceptional dining experience. I wholeheartedly recommend giving this restaurant a try if you find yourself in the area. It's clear that they prioritize customer satisfaction and offer a memorable dining experience.
Went in for a late lunch, no waiting, the view was amazing, the prices were... a bit high, but worth it... the food was very good, my medium steak was prepared almost perfect, was medium rare... The flavor was very good... The customer service was good...
This was our first time at the Chart House, and it was a wonderful dining experience. Everything was delicious from start to finish, and I would highly recommend the Kimchee Calamari appetizer. Our server, Desmond, was one of the best servers we've ever had. All in all, it's definitely a 5-star restaurant!
We love coming to the Chart House when we are in Monterey. We have always had great food and wonderful service. Tonight Bianca made our meal extra special with her friendly attitude and professionalism.
What an amazing experience. We made the reservation for my birthday, and to my surprise they had especially printed menus just for us with a happy birthday message and a birthday dinner especial suggestion. Our server Damian was excellent. Everything about this place was 5 star ⭐ the food was delicious and the atmosphere / ocean view table was awesome. I highly recommend it. 👍👍
The view was marvelous. Saw a sea otter out the window, while enjoying dinner. Ordered 1/2 dozen oysters as appetizer, ahi Tuna cooked medium rare with roasted fingerling potatoes and broccolini. We were served with some warm bread. Everything was so good. Our server gave us good service.
Zane is one of the best servers Ive ever had. Prompt service. My family comes here all of the time and today was my first time. It did not disappoint!
A lovely dining experience. The service, the view and the food were ALL stellar! Big Sur Golden Ale paired quite well with the sword fish. The oysters were good, the only downside, the small Tabasco bottle was more of a spout than a drop by drop. Overall quite good, would recommend the sword fish! Will come back!
I cannot say enough about Desmin. She was a complete gem. Phenomenal recommendations, fantastic service, and a beautiful attitude. Food was some of the best we have had in years. We will be back!
Wonderful experience at the Chart House in Monterey. To start, reservations are highly recommended. We made reservations and arrived at 415pm. Our table was the best; we had a corner table with windows all around, overlooking the bay. Just fantastic views. We started off with a bottle of Treana Cabernet and ordered a new appetizer (for their 60th anniversary) called Shrimp Beignets. Five of these were served on a well-decorated plate, drizzled with a chipotle aioli. I really liked these, but my wife thought they could use a little more "drizzle". We were also served warm bread and butter. For our main courses, my wife ordered the Mixed Seafood Grill which came with a small portion of Cedar Plank Salmon, Prosciutto Wrapped Shrimp, Lobster En Croute and Fingerling Potatoes. She really liked her meal, though she wished for a bit larger piece of salmon. I ordered the Slow-Roasted Prime Rib (Chart House size) which came with 3-Potato Garlic Mashed potatoes and I added on 5 grilled shrimp. We topped it off with a shared slice of Key Lime Pie. Service was impeccable, the view was gorgeous, and the atmosphere perfect.
I had the absolute best experience thanks to Jairo. He served me on my birthday, and when I came back again on Valentine’s Day, he actually remembered me — which genuinely meant so much. From the moment we sat down, he was incredibly kind, attentive, and made us feel so welcomed. His service was thoughtful without being overbearing, and he went out of his way to make both occasions feel special. You can tell he truly cares about his guests and takes pride in what he does. Experiences like this are what make people want to come back, and he is 100% a reason I will. Amazing service, great energy, and just an all-around wonderful person.
Great experience and fantastic food to top it off. Our waiter Jairo, did a wonderful job! On a busy night he took the time out to speak with us and also remembered us from a previous visit which was very special. I will definitely be coming back again.
There's been a much needed management and staff turnover since we had 3 very poor dining experiences in a row. We finally returned after 2 years and were delighted with the changes! Seated at a table with a beautiful ocean view -- our waitress did a great job, even though she'd only recently started. We asked about their featured wine, we were planning to only have a glass a piece. She thoughtfully brought us a pour for both of us to taste...BINGO!!! We ordered a bottle instead of a glass each...very nice start to the evening! Our order was taken, the manager came by and chatted us up -- an interesting and engaging talk about wines! The food was great as expected: lobster bisque topped with with a piece of lobster, salad, prime rib and a chocolate mousse cake. It was Halloween, but service and the works all went smoothly. This team won back our loyalty. We'll be back!
Wow — Charthouse completely blew me away the past few times my family and I have gone for dinner! The view alone is worth the visit, but the food and service have made the whole experience amazing every time, it's really an elevated fine dining restaurant compared to the Charthouse I used to go to in Marina Del Rey, years ago. Our server, Eric, was super friendly and checked in just the right amount. And our server we've had in the past, Barayan, made sure we were doing well. He even remembered our daughter's name, what a special place and person. I ordered the lamb chops and it was perfect — fresh, flavorful, and beautifully plated. My husband got the prime rib and said it was one of the best they’ve had. We ended the night with dessert and honestly, I’m still thinking about it. If you’re looking for a spot for date night, celebrating something, or just want a great dinner with a view — this is it. Highly recommend!
Came after a horrible experience at Shadow brook in Santa Cruz. We were greeted and immediately seated down with a gorgeous view. Our server was the absolute best she continuously came to check on us and offered us a delicious dessert for celebrating a special occasion within our group. Food was amazing definitely a great choice for coming in for late night dinner. Within our party one of our members was not fond of the espresso martini and our server took immediate action offering to take it off the bill and if we cared for any replacement drinks. Our experience here was truly great thanks to the staff.
We had an amazing dinner at Chart House Monterey with a stunning view of the ocean and sunset to top it all off. The atmosphere was elegant yet relaxed — perfect for a special night out. What truly made the evening unforgettable was our server, Jairo. He was absolutely phenomenal — warm, attentive, and genuinely made us feel taken care of the entire time. He anticipated what we needed before we even asked and gave thoughtful recommendations that we ended up loving. You could tell he truly cared about giving us the best experience possible. The food was excellent , and the service from Jairo elevated everything. If you’re planning a visit to Chart House Monterey, ask for Jairo — you won’t regret it!
Wasn’t a long wait with no reservations but opted to sit at the bar. The menu selections were decent and our crab cake was enough for 2 people as an app and with my mango margarita plus desserts it was more than enough. It’s my family’s go to restaurant in Monterey, I had the mudpie and it was lit, it’s similar to The Keg Billie miner pie. I gobbles it all up like a kid that never eaten in a day🤣 My cocktail was sweet but good. All staff are nice and Bartender was good with a recommendation ready to part with. Over all good and my Cali family recommended. Always make a reservation if you don’t want to wait.
Fantastic dinner! The prime rib was excellent. Would also recommend the crispy shrimp appetizer. Beautiful views out into the bay, mostly facing Northeast so did not catch sunset but was still beautiful and you could see sea otters swimming by. Definitely have to go with the lava cake dessert. Probably the best restaurant within the Canary road proximity.
Just wow!!! We did not make a reservation but we were able to sit at the bar and that was the best thing we did! Our server was knowledgeable, friendly and attentive!! The drink experience was fresh and vibrant. We opted for the side service and that was a fantastic experience. Our food was delicious!
Received two $50 gift cards for my birthday and finally put them to good use! We had heard that the happy hour menu was excellent, so decided to hit their up at opening and made a reservation for 4pm. We got there a little early and checked out the happy hour menu and was pleasantly surprised at how affordable it was. They opened the (massive) door at 4 promptly and let ourselves and two other couples in. Despite being first, we were seated third(shrug, but my wife seemed bothered). We got an exceptional seat overlooking the bay. We could see otters and ducks playing in the water. Our hostess and waitress were exceptionally nice and helpful. Unfortunately, we were unaware that the happy hour menu was only available in the bar area. Not wanting to complain, we simply smiled and stayed where we were seated. We ordered two mixed drinks (roughly $14 apiece) that were delicious. We ordered a kim chee calamari appetizer for $16.50. We also ordered bowls of clam chowder($11) and lobster bisque($13), respectfully. For our dinner, we ordered Mac Nut Mahi for $40.50 and Shelfish Bouillabaisse $31. There was complimentary bread as well. With tax and tip, the bill skated just under $200. The restaurant was immaculate. The salad bar looked excellent. All the employees were friendly. I only wish I knew the happy hour was only available at the bar. We spent twice what we had planned for, and in this economy, that can be a costly mistake. However, this is not the fault of The Charthouse, but our own lack of research/common sense. We will definitely be returning and enjoying their happy hour in the future. Apparently gift cards are currently available at Costco in Sand City ($79 for $100 worth of food).
I went for dinner and was impressed from start to finish. We had a reservation and were seated as soon as our entire party arrived. Our tables faced the ocean and the lighting allowed us to watch the waves crashing against the rocks while we were there. The food was pricy, but the value matched the price. The ambiance of the restaurant was quiet, friendly and allowed for great conversation while we dined. Our glasses were kept full and dessert came as soon as dinner was finished. I would recommend for special occasions or in our case a nice dinner while away on a business trip.
Food was excellent; Kim was amazing; her service was top notch!! Perfect attention to the table without being an intrusion. And Kerrie is an absolute winner! She was engaging, ensured everything was perfect and went out of her way to congratulate us on our anniversary. We own a service-oriented business (Visiting Angels) and can tell a team dedicated to providing a great customer experience. They have it here. Thank you.
The food and service were exceptional. Expect to spend at least 90 minutes to an hour, since it's a popular restaurant. We didn't mind the wait and actually enjoyed relaxing and taking our time after a busy day on Canner Row. I strongly suggest making a reservation via phone or the OpenTable app. We'll definitely dine here again on our next visit.
Chart house offers a wonderful atmosphere. Terrific staff that are cordial, professional and very friendly. The food is amazing, steaks are some of the best cuts in the area! Highly recommend. If you are celebrating make sure to note it when booking the reservation; the menus are printed to the specific celebration. Keep up the great work Chart House!
I was there for Christmas Eve. The evivonment is fantastic, especially if you have the seat closer to the window. You can enjoy your food while watching the sea. The food is also delicious, both shrimp, lobster, mussels and sea bass are super tasty. Except the steak with the surf and turf, it is little dry and flavorless. The service are also good, I give one point less because it was Christmas Eve and it is super busy, everyone is in rush. But they still keep their profession to provide the best service as they can.
We had an amazing dining experience at Chart House Monterey. The sea bass was exquisite, and the steak and salad we ordered alongside it were equally outstanding. The view, service, and atmosphere are truly special. Considering the quality and overall experience, the prices feel quite reasonable. A must-visit spot in Monterey – highly recommended!
The wait was still over 30 minutes with a reservation on a Saturday night. We came back to this place, thinking it was the restaurant we went to 20 years ago. It may not have been. They served dungeness crabs then, but this place served king crabs. I decided to try something else and was happy with the Spicy Ahi on top of furikake rice with some soy glaze and wasabi cream on the side. We also ordered the Mama Mucci Linguini with large grilled shrimp (flavorful) and Prime rib with mashed potatoes. The mini lava cake was a little dry for my taste, but perhaps the regular size would be better. The creme brulee trio had a couple of different flavors in addition to the traditional creme brulee. We still preferred the traditional flavor. The servers were friendly, and Brian was very accommodating. Wrt space, the aisles were a bit tight in some areas - cozy room. Seating can be a bit cramped with back-to-back chairs from the other table, but we had a great dining experience overall.
While traveling to celebrate our 25th wedding Anniversary, we booked a table for our special night at the Chart House in Monterey. They went above and beyond to make our celebration extra special. We were seated at a table by the windows with an amazing view of the bay and surrounding sand dunes. When handed our menus table side, we glanced down to look them over, and soon realized they had added a toast to us, printed on their menus! What a thoughtful touch. We were then treated to tables service by the bartender, who crafted us amazing cocktails… and to top it off, 3 humpback whale pods put on a sunset hour show for us all. Truly a unique and wonderful experience.
Made a reservation on a Saturday night at 6:30pm and were seated right away. The atmosphere is nice with lots of seating, space for big parties, and seating at the bar. Gorgeous views with floor to ceiling windows over looking the ocean. We sat in a corner spot but could at least see the ocean a bit. The food was excellent! Especially the coconut shrimp and crispy spicy tuna! My filet mignon was cooked to perfection. All good portions for the price. The service was phenomenal. They checked with us often, cleared our plates with each course, and they were very friendly to my 1 year old, making sure he was happy the whole time. Highly recommend and hope to be back soon!
my coworkers and I stopped by here during our offsite for dinner and it was honestly such a fun evening! The food was pretty delicious and I appreciate how wonderful/patient the staff were since my team member has a lot of allergies. The ambience of the restaurant was very classy and and it seemed like it was a spot a lot of various business teams also used for their team dinners! tip: - they have a small parking lot across the street and lots of street parking available - really great for fancy intimate dinners with friends, dates, solo dinner, etc - lots of fun options for dinner and delicious fun drinks!

Nate was an excellent waiter. He went over and above our expectations. He certainly made our evening wonderful as we celebrated our birthdays. Chart House Monterey
Great looking place. Service was on point. Unfortunately, food was only decent, especially for the price. The manhattan, though pricey, was the best I’ve ever had. The fluer de lis drink was also tasty. The salad bar had a lot of variety. The clam chowder lacked flavor. The filet was medium well when we asked for medium and its flavor profile was lacking. The lobster tail seemed a tad overdone. The scampi shrimp was delicious. The potato soufflé was interesting. The lava cake was the best part of the meal. I would go back here for drinks and the ambiance and maybe the over priced salad bar (as an entree experience). Old Fisherman’s Grotto has this place beat in spades for the money. Go there.
We went here for Christmas dinner. It was very busy. We ate at a lie surely pace. The prime rib was very good -- very tender. The side dishes were ok, nothing exciting. On such a busy day, make your reservation early. For later reservations people were waiting a long time.
Food is better than average but not unique but we go each month cuz we find it romantic and like the view Now we also will return because of Eric our server. Enthusiastic, personable andpr and provided great service. Plus, I want to give a shout out to GM Kerrie, who was in constant motion attending to details and making customers feel welcome.
I've come to this location a few times. The most recent two times differed tremendously. Food was better the first time, service was just okay both times. The food pictured below was from last time, and we were seated at the bar. Recently ordered pasta- it did not taste like fresh pasta, and if it was, it needed to be cooked maybe two minutes longer.
Happy hour from 4 to 6pm. Service was a bit slow. Food was so/so. Drinks were good and priced well for HH. We had the coconut shrimp, firecracker shrimp, ahi tuna, sliders, and kids fish and chips. Most of the food was fine....nothing super tasty. Fish and chips were too breaded and barely any fish inside. Lovely views!
There was a group of 7 of us out celebrating. The food was pretty good overall. I loved the "Chart your own Course" menu option. We were supposed to be seated by the & weren't although it was expressly stated in our reservation so that was disappointing. Our waiter seemed pretty inexperienced as well. He wasn't familiar with Oyster "Rockefeller" when I asked about it and he seemed a tad frazzled. Otherwise the atmosphere was nice & the company I keep was even better!
I mentioned my food is too hot for me but no one cared to do anything about it, not even the manager 😒 my food was Halibut $51, my drink $17 with tax almost $79. Letting you know that you have to wait when you ask for something. this is my second time going there and I think i had enough from this place!
2-13-26 4:30 pm Dinner Reservation A Very High End Restaurant, I take out my wife for a romantic prevalentine's dinner and right off the top, a problem when ordering something so simple I ordered Swordfish with raw vegetables instead of cooked in a butter sauce with pasta. Well I tell you, that seem to upend the server and the kitchen, he had to come back two additional times to understand what I was requesting. Finally, instead of my request for raw vegetables, I get grilled asparagus. So anyway the Swordfish is perfectly grilled and tender as ordered. Also, we had to keep asking like common things, salt and pepper shakers, the the complimentary bread and crackers they're known to serve. I had ordered beer at the beginning of being seated, when done server took empty bottle and never asked through out the entire meal if I wanted another. Having said that, the server did try to accommodate his best.
We visited for Christmas Day and overall had a lovely experience. The atmosphere was festive, and the staff who greeted us were warm, friendly, and made us feel welcome. There were a couple of areas where our table service could be improved. We ordered an expensive bottle of champagne, which was placed on the table without an ice bucket and we had to ask for one. I also had to ask for a steak knife when my filet mignon arrived. The food itself was enjoyable, though my chocolate lava dessert didn’t quite match the description, there was no molten centre, which was a little disappointing, even though the flavour was still nice. One suggestion for the future: it would be great to see a fully vegetarian option on the holiday menu. I appreciate it’s a seafood restaurant, but not all vegetarians eat fish, and having a dedicated option would make the experience more inclusive for mixed groups and families. Overall, a pleasant Christmas meal with lovely staff and a few small tweaks that could make it even better.
My friend and I went to have last minute dinner, food selection was amazing, linguine was absolutely delicious and Sea bass. 10/10 delicious, we had a espresso Martini, but the one on the cocktail comes room temperature not cold. So was mehh! Service Erik was amazing and patient cuz we love good stuff. Food delicious, service amazing, was late so was empty, but loved it. Ill be back again on a different time, for a better view
Very nice restaurant, we ordered steaks, both the slow cooked entrenched, filled and ny strip. The steaks came overcooked (med-well when ordered med-rare) although when told the server immediately replaced with a new med-rare steaks which were very good. The shrimp cocktail was also very good. The restaurant itself lies on the coast with panoramic windows towards the beach and ocean. The views are very nice and really contribute to a great atmosphere. Eating while watching seals and seagulls on the ocean.
Came with low expectations of poor service and average overpriced touristy seafood but was pleasantly surprised (just the food, service was as expected). Made an online reservation a couple days in advance, but still waited about 10 minutes to get seated. Requested for a window seat in the notes of the reservation and was seated at a table near a window instead, but no big deal. I'd recommend making a reservation We ordered a bowl of chowder $14, miso sake glazed black cod $32, sole on fire $32, and mini lava cake $12. The chowder was excellent, not salty yet flavorful, loaded with ingredients, one of the best I've had. Both of the fish dishes were really good as well. Fish was fresh and perfectly cooked, even the vegetable accompaniments were of quality ingredients. Portions were reasonable. We agreed that the sole was the better of the 2. Mini lava cake was tasty, not overly sweet. Topped with ice cream. We found it interesting that there was no gooey center, it was just chocolate cake throughout. But no big deal since it was still good. Pricing felt reasonable for the quality of the food Service was mediocre. Very busy restaurant. Server didn't anticipate any needs and was hard to flag down, but she did refill waters regularly and was nice. Indoor seating only. Nice restaurant with views of the water. A bit dark inside Overall, I'd go back just for the quality food, but won't expect good service

A great spot for dinner, so good we went 3 times during our trip. Great service, menu food and friendly staff. Also has live music!

Made reservations but still had to wait 35 minutes to be seated. Specifically requested a window seat but was given a table far from the window against the wall and was told it would be another 30 minutes or more if I wanted a window table but by then it would have been dark outside and the point moot. Our server only visted our table once after we ordered I even had to go get salt and pepper off an empty table as there wasn't any on our table. Once the food arrived the potatoes were cold and watery and the steak even though it was hot and perfectly cooked lacked any flavor. They have a nice salad bar and the salad was basically the best part of the meal. The salad can be ordered separately as an entree and if I visit here again that is what I'd stick with
the prime rib hash was the most tasteless greasy dish I’ve had in a while. My friend ordered an omelette and the omelette was fine but the hashbrowns as well were really greasy and gross. Service was fine, but I won’t be back
Honestly we gave this a try on my birthday one again after so long in the hopes that the food would be better. Food was not great at all… bland, boring, just not very flavorful. We all added salt and pepper to our meals. It’s a disappointment because the restaurant atmosphere and the service was wonderful. Not worth the $475 we spent. Would have rather have gone to Shooners or something. It was my special day on 2/22/22
Coming from Vegas, we are used to good meals that are competitively priced. Cannery Row is a tourist area and we came here due to the good review. Service was great. The view was great. The price for the wine by the glass was excellent. The dishes have room to improve. My wife went for the grilled fish. The portion was on the small side and lacking in flavor. I ordered maize shrimp & scallop. It was too creamy and rich for my taste. I do give them credit for offering sustainably harvested seafood though.
Location is excellent and the views are beautiful. The waiters we had was excellent and tried really hard to serves and make us comfortable. The bar tender was a bit abrupt and not as attentive. Granted it was 5:15 pm and it was the happy hour rush with only one bar tender working the bar. The food was good but not great. The prime rib was a bit chewy and my suspicion is that it is USDA choice and not prime. The sides were also less than impressive. Creamed spinach was lackluster. The best part is the prefixed menu where you get a free dessert essentially.
Receptionist was welcoming & friendly. Overall my experience was okay, but we waited for our entrees for 1.5 hour, which was a bit insane. Also I asked for olive oil grilled but still tasted butter in my food. Lastly, there was an old lady at the table next to us staring at my husband in an unfriendly way, and I even heard her mutter something about ‘Silicon Valley worker’ lol.
I dined alone on a Sunday night. I got in right away and was probably greeted by the bartender as I sat at the bar. The bartender was very helpful and recommended a really good drink. He also recommended a great wine. The problem I have was the food. I ordered their special $61 for soup, prime rib, and dessert. That’s probably why it wasn’t that great. I had the lobster bisque, which wax pretty tasty and the lava cake was delicious too, but the prime rib had zero flavor. Needless to say I was pretty disappointed. I think it’d be better if they offered a ribeye, which is flavorful and satisfying for Those who like their steak rare.
My partner and I made a reservation based on my recommendation from many previous experiences that I’d had at the Chart House in Del Mar, San Diego. Each time I have been to the branch in San Diego, my family and I have had excellent service, amazing food, and an overall wonderful experience, so I had very high hopes that this would be no different. Oh, how I wish I had been correct. The meal started out wonderfully and only went downhill from there, with each interaction and dish being worse. We each got a drink, both of which were good, albeit a little strong, but not an issue. We had the seared pepper ahi appetizer, which was the best thing we had all night and was genuinely very delicious. We then moved onto the entree, of which we both ordered the Miso Cod. To say it was disappointing would be all too kind. My boyfriend and I have never been on vacation together and I have never visited Monterey before, so we were looking to celebrate the special occasion and splurge on a nice dinner as a couple. One other thing to note: we are in college. All that being said, we do not have care-free, frivolous money to spend on 70 dollars worth of entrees in a very nice restaurant just for the food to be bland, poorly plated, and overwhelmingly lack-luster. I have ordered the specific dish “miso cod” at an array of restaurants across the state, as I know that it is a dish I love and is outstanding when it is done well. This fish, naturally mild in nature, lacked any real seasoning at all, let alone anything that could be described as miso, thrown onto a bed of beige, wilted vegetables. Also, both my boyfriend and I have worked in the restaurant industry and understand the difficulties and stress of such an environment. However, when we very kindly brought up the issue with our server in the hopes that something could be done to compensate, she and the manager informed that nothing could be done. We did, however, witness many older couples being coddled with service and given everything they could have possibly asked for, leaving us to wonder why it was so impossible for us to have a dish comped or a free dessert thrown in for a 140 dollar tab… All in all, this was a very saddening and disappointing experience, and severely damages their reputation and level of regard which I previously held for this restaurant chain. Monterey Chart House, please be more like your sister, the Del Mar Chart House.
The food was outstanding. The service was subpar. After being seated for over 30 minutes, we finally got our first course and water which we had to ask for. We also had to ask for the bread basket. Our table and the one next to us did not get a steak knife delivered with the steak. Our neighbor had to track down someone to get one. Husband ordered the charter meal for $60. It was entered on our bill as individual plates so it overcharged us. It was only a $1 so not worth complaining but indicative of the service. While I appreciate not being rushed through our meal, we are finally leaving after almost two hours for a table of two.
I was sincerely disappointed. To preface this, I knew this was an expensive restaurant and according to the reviews, a very good one. Now, here's my experience. The server, although very pleasant, was slow to get us drinks and take our orders. When we did finally get to order, we were offered the choice of soup or salad. Sounded like it came with the meal, but not so. When we got our food, the presentation was poor and lackluster. I ordered the herb crusted salmon. All that was on my plate was the salmon and a small spoon of mashed potatoes. The potatoes were cold on the edges and lukewarm in the middle. My salmon was tasty but far from an acceptable temperature. My granddaughter asked for no beans in her chopped salad. Nope, came fully loaded with them. My daughters' roast chicken lacked any flavor and wasn't hot either. My husband said the clam chowder was passable but nothing special. It wasn't hot either. Additionally, the salad and soup we were offered with our meal? Yeah, an extra charge for that too...$14 and $15. No warning or would you like to add... just the charge. Bottom line, when I go to a restaurant, and am presented with an almost $500 bill for 6 adults and 2 children, I would expect to have been completely satisfied with my meal. Oh and we were asked if we wanted water...yeah...$8.50 a bottle.
The food and service were both disappointing. The lobster bisque was very good, but the the main, shrimp stuffed fish tasted really off and not edible. To their credit, they offered to replace it with another entree, but the service had been so slow I didn't want to wait for something else at that point. They did remove the charge from our bill however.

We have been coming to Chart House for special occasions for years. My sister flew in from the East coast just to celebrate a major birthday at CH, only to be disappointed in your fish. The sea bass tasted like cod and the King Salmon was bland. We have never had a worse experience. Only the salad bar was up to par. Do you have a new chef? New supplier? One of my guests deemed his supposed sea bass inedible and was comped. I was embarrassed. We have always enjoyed your seafood selection and have not had a bad meal, until now. Mark was a congenial server but was booked with three large tables so didn’t get back to us to check for refills or food issues. He was run off his feet.
I was here for the lunch and the waiter we had was unfortunately terrible. However the fish tacos were fantastic, but the prime rib French dip was subpar.
We were very excited to visit the Chart House because we have fond memories from the Dana Point and Tahoe locations. Unfortunately, the experience at the Monterey location was truly disappointing. The filet mignon tasted burnt and left a strong charcoal flavor in the mouth. Additionally, the meat looked unusual and the shrimp seemed overcooked and discolored. I have attached two pictures to illustrate the notable difference between the Chart House in Tahoe and the Monterey location. ( Full steak is from the Tahoe location)
No bread or water when we arrived . They took extremely long to take out order . We were a group of 15 . It was a special milestone bday . If a restaurant sees that a group is coming to dine, they should be prepared with staff . Our table upon arrival wasn’tready so they took long to seat us as well.
Food was not great. Won’t get into too much detail but the entrees me and my husband got tasted like if seasoning still hadn’t been discovered— might just be because both me and my husband come from spice-heavy cultural backgrounds. Water smells like they just got it from the beach down the way. Server was attentive and the atmosphere was nice. Drinks were phenomenal.
Honest review here... have been wanting to try for a while and from the minute I entered things just were not up to par. We came in at 3:30pm and only two other tables occupied in the entire restaurant. Service was slow but the waiter was nice. Had to ask for a clean water glass since one of ours had hood stuck to it and my seat also had dried food on it. My husband got the clam chowder- ok flavor but super watery. Not even close to chowder. I had the salad bar which was good but not great. Our main course came- my husband got the salmon with crab on top with mango sticky rice. He said it was "meh". No real flavor, not horrible but for the price not worth it. I had the mama lucci shrimp linguine. The shrimp were good, the linguine had no flavor. Even though there was some type of pesto on it, there was literally no flavor so I squeezed 2 lemons on it to give it something! Our total bill before tip was $152, no alcohol, just iced tea. I would never go there again. No flavor of the food, horrible clam chowder, meh service .
As locals we go to the Chart House every couple years or so. We had a party of 13 this time, cute custom menu for the birthday girl, sweet staff as always but what in the world is going on in the kitchen!? It took 90 minutes to get our cold entrees! The mash potato’s were literally like one serving spoon scoop. One ordered a medium well prime rib (I know, unusual) and it was dry and hard) they quickly replaced it with a medium rare. The other prime ribs ordered were more like steak tartar and believe me, we order prime rib often and know it’s typically pink but usually has brown edges or searing. These did not. It was so odd. All but two of us left hungry. That’s very disappointing for the price you pay here. The crème brûlée was waxy and almost gummy. We even felt bad for our server because she was so sweet. How embarrassing for her ti have to serve up that food,
A very disappointing dinner with a industry friend. We came for a dinner when in the area for a work conference. Food was very underwhelming, lacked seasoning and unimpressive. We each ordered the special. Flies were constant near our table the entire meal. Too many other restaurants in the area that stand out with service and food to waste a meal here.
The food here is insanely overpriced for what it is. I think you could describe this restaurant as a tourist trap! I personally would much rather spend my money elsewhere, given that I can have mediocre food for less money at many restaurants. For the price, for being in coastal California where delicious food is abundant, this place does not support the cost. Honestly, I am often all too happy to spend $200 on a meal for two provided the food is delicious! But similarly, I expect that for that price that the food will be of high quality, fresh, and expertly prepared. Chart House is not that! The menu needs a serious update. Everything we ate—the beet salad, cesar salad, linguine, moules, and affogatos—were all fine. However I’ve had equally good food at a Cheesecake Factory. Seriously, the four course prix fixe at Sierra Mar is $125. We paid about that per person at Chart House, which was not at all worth it. I suggest you just go to Sierra Mar instead.. Additionally our table was so dark that ig seemed unlit. And the gorgeous gorgeous view of the ocean through the windows meant our table was freezing! We hurried to get out of there tbh.
my husband and i came here per our friends recommendation. we had such high expectations and were let down. our waiter was nice but messed up a lot. food was okay. i had better at bubba gumps. the roasted vegetables were good but not for the price. i make better potatoes at home. was so disappointed! the ocean view is nice but the vibes are awkward. music is bad and doesn’t fit the aesthetic. very strange! i’ll probably never eat here again. save your money for a better restaurant!

So I went here yesterday 10/03/2025, I went here for me and my wife’s honeymoon. The food tasted great, me and my wife had the filet, mussels, shrimp, and it was delicious. But immediately after we got back to the hotel my wife vomited, I also had a really bad headache and had diarrhea, I called them and asked to speak to a manager and mentioned we were going to have to maybe go to the hospital for food poisoning. The manager showed no remorse and didn’t offer a refund at all. I think the decent thing a restaurant would do in this situation is offer a refund. Really it’s not about the money but about principles since I work in the restaurant industry myself I know what’s right and wrong. But we got food poisoning. I will be contacting them again.
Will you have a good experience? 50/50. Our neighbors went at 5:30 and had a good meal. We went at 7:30 and didn’t. In fact over half of all reviews in the past month are 1 or 2 stars on Yelp. Neighbors said the restaurant was only half full so we didn’t make a reservation. When asked for my phone number so that we could be seated I asked why it was needed since they were not needing to text me, just seat me. No number no table, or you can sit at the bar. I said you are willing for me to walk out if I don’t give you a number? Yes. They were willing to accept an obviously fake number. Should have realized the hostess was trying to warn us away. After 45 minutes of waiting for our food the manager stopped by the table. How’s everything? We’re starving. She went back to check on the meal and she must command a lot of respect because 30 minutes later we had our food. And we had a $130 bad experience. Should have listened to the hostess. 50/50.
Great Setting, Terrible Execution and Service: The restaurant boasts an excellent atmosphere and a breathtaking view. The salad bar was a high point: fresh and abundant. Unfortunately, everything else was a major letdown. We chose from the "Chart Your Course" selections (prime rib and lava cake) and ordered a specific 2019 Raymond Merlot to go along. The server, Eric, delivered a different vintage, 2022. The vintage is important in that we were celebrating a wedding anniversary and a milestone birthday for my wife and we intended to spend $90-$100. It took 15 minutes to confirm the 2019 was out of stock, and the replacement wine didn't arrive until we had already finished half of our prime rib. The food itself was flawed: my prime rib was medium, not medium-rare, and the mini lava cakes were served with completely melted ice cream. The most frustrating aspect was the service recovery. The server never offered a single apology for the wine substitution, the significant delays, or the food errors. The manager was not involved at any point. The lack of regret or ownership for the oversights, especially passing off the wrong wine—is deeply disappointing and unacceptable. To the Owner: I sincerely request a response that addresses these specific service and timing failures, rather than the boilerplate reply given to other negative feedback.
False advertising. Sign said Sunday brunch 11-3. We showed up around 2:05 pm Sunday and the waitress said sorry but brunch ended at 2:00. Clam chowder was pathetic and talked to the manager Karen abt the brunch hour issue and she did not even attempt to remedy the issue. Save your money! There are better choices in Monterey. Won’t come back to this restaurant.
We had a reservation for 6:30 and arrived 40 minutes early. They said they could get us in. People with reservations were coming in and being seated. At 6:25 two groups were seated with NO RESERVATION that had walked in 10 minutes earlier. When I walked back up to the girl handing the seating she disappeared into the back with us just standing there. 45 minutes with a reservation and they seat 8 people with no reservations with many tables empty.
