Hula's is one of our go-to places for vegan and vegetarian friendly options. The staff includes some of the coolest folks in Monterey. They're seasonings are top notch, and their cocktails are incredible - my favorite is the pink bikini martini, which, I kid you not, tastes just like pink jolly ranchers. Shout out to our favorite server, Daniel, for always bringing joy and positive vibes with his service!
Definitely stumbled into this place, and the vibe is that of a local gem! We were truly thrilled to have found this place, and dieing happy hour! A very generous list of pupus all 6$, Wednesday all wine bottles are half priced during happy hour, and all Tiki's drinks process are rolled back! Worth a quick stop for a bite to eat that is very reasonable and great priced drinks!
Stumbled upon this place because I wanted to try something new and I’m so glad I did! Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable about the vegan options available. We tried the jungle tofu bowl and the akua burger with vegan cheese and sweet potato fries. Both were soo good and fries were delicious. The restaurant was busy and had such a fun, laid-back vibe too, we loved the cozy outdoor seating.
What an absolute GEM!!! We found this accidentally while looking for parking. We stopped in to see the menu & the hostess was friendly, helpful & when we told her we were looking at a restaurant across the street she gave us genuine feedback & also another recommendation. We promised to come back for lunch the next day. Next day... different hostess, but same friendly greeting. We opted to sit outside in the patio area (with heaters!) It was a great setting & even with the occasional gusts of cold wind... it was comfortable! The food was fresh & absolutely delicious. The Mango chicken Caesar salad was amazing as well as the fish sandwich... not to mention that they have the absolute BEST sweet potato fries that are cooked perfectly... crispy outside, but tender inside. Jayna... you are absolutely the BEST waitress and put the perfect finishing touches on our experience! 😍 We will be telling everyone we know who may be traveling to your area to MAKE time to stop by for great food, great ambiance (the music was creating a perfect vibe!) & WORLD CLASS SERVICE!! Thanks so much & we can't wait to visit again 💯%
It’s our post free dive tradition to hit up Hula’s. Food is always tasty, great cocktails, vibes and staff are always friendly. I’m a sucker for sitting at the bar and watching the surf footage.
While driving through Monterey, we were craving a Hawaiian lunch plate. Luckily we found Hula's Island Grill! Some of the items are not on a typical Hawaiian menu. They're serving Jerk Chicken and Pork , Bahn Mi Taco's to name a few. Of course, we ordered the Kalbi Ribs, Kona Style Wings and the Hula Burger with a side of sweet potato fries. The food was onoliscious! 🤙 The ribs and the patty were grilled perfectly. The coconut with lime on the wings added another level of flavor. The table service was quick, the staff were very friendly and accommodating. They have outdoor dining in the rear and pets are allowed. Definitely will return when we're back in Monterey .
When my drink arrived I noticed the lil' umbrella was destroyed. In any other bar I would assume the sad garnish was plucked from a dirty, empty glass from the bartop. Fortunately, I am at Hulas, our go-to restaurant when we are in Monterey. I know it is intentional, because I ordered a Dark & Stormy. They do a great job here. Great service, great drinks, a fun, cozy space, and most importantly, excellent food. They also have a great patio and I love the quirky, tiny men's room. *I admit there is a 2% chance the broken drink umbrella may have been in 4 or 5 other drinks previous to mine. I still don't care. I love this place.
Great foods & customer service. Long selection of cocktails. My husband ended up getting 2 margarita & said they were soooooo good with perfect amount of liquor & tropical juice. We had late lunch so just ordered many small bites pupus. Loves all pupus (abalone style calamari, sweet potato fries, ceviche). The cubano pork taco was good with the kick of spiciness but not too much. I love my pork to be more juicy instead of dry & crispy but the sauce made the taco tasted good. Very reasonable price. Waiting time usually between 25 - 30 minutes during peak hour.
Walked in and the ambiance astounded me. It's such a cute place!! Very cozy. We asked to be outside and they had a cute outdoor area with heaters. They also had a bar outside. Our server was amazing. He was kind and funny. He was also very prompt with helping us and checking in on us. For the food we had macadamia crusted mahi mahi and blackened wasabi ahi. It was sooooo good!! We also had an octopus bowl, which is a bowl with a volcano in the middle. It was also really good. I hate ice though. I had accidentally left my purse and when I called a few minutes before they were about to close, they answered right away and let us come and pick it up. I really like this place and would come back or recommend it.
A fun restaurant serving Hawaiian fare! Love the atmosphere of the place. Welcoming and bright, with great people inside. Good option for a quick meal after visiting the Monterey bay aquarium. There are happy hour appetizer and drink specials. We got the ceviche (flavorful with a kick), jackfruit tacos (tasty and also spicy), poke bowl (fresh fish but not much flavor), and fish soup (our table’s favorite dish we tried - it was so rich and creamy!)
Happy hour is 5-6pm $6 tiki drinks, $6 select apps. Ahi tuna and seaweed good, coconut shrimp rolls are good but 🍤 is steamed with Coconut inside not the battered coconut shrimp you're used to. Best drinks dark and stormy, blood orange martini. Ordered chicken tacos... fantastic as is edamame hummus. For dessert lilikoi pie is the best dessert ever. If you like key lime pie this is a fantastic twist.
We really enjoy the Hawaiian vibe and menu here. It's friendly and laid back. Great happy hour drinks and pupus. No kid's menu but they will find options for you if needed. Some of our favorites are the Crispy Coconut Shrimp Rolls, the Jungle Curry Bowl with tofu and the Key Lime Pie.
It is soooo greeaaatt!!! We loved the bbq pork, fish taco and coconut shrimp roll. However the poke bowl is not as good probably bc it has barely no sauce in it. A bit teriyaki sauce or eel sauce would have been good to go with! Overall, it’s a nice place to have family dinner or go on a date with you SO!
Arrived on a Friday at around 5:15 and was seated immediately. Happy hour was still going until 5:30, so we ordered the ceviche and the wings. The ceviche was pretty lemony, so if that’s not your thing, might wanna order something else. The wings were bomb, super fresh and tasty. Came with some sort of coconut flavor sauce which was pretty good. For the main meal I got the Jawaiian Jerk Pork plate. It’s sweet at first, but the heat creeps up on you. My partner got the Ahi with chimichurri. The Ahi was cooked really nicely. I probably would’ve tried the lemongrass one instead of the chimichurri, but I’ll make a mental note for next time. Hula’s always provides solid food, you won’t be disappointed.
One of the more popular places in the new Monterey area. The fish tacos are a family favorite. The wait staff is always very friendly, helpful and accommodating to our family with picky habits. Recommend as long as the wait is not too long.
Food and service were both excellent. We arrived shortly after they opened and it was definitely picking up by the time we left. The pork sandwich was great, pork was juicy and the coleslaw on top was delicious. The pork tacos we're good as well. Try the sweet potato fries, they are excellent, and served with a ginger soy dipping sauce.
We came for lunch, was busy which is a good sign. Got seated quickly and they were very accommodating with helping us fold/place our stroller out of the way. Server was great, attentive, recommended one meal over another and she nailed the recommendation. Had the pork plate and the lunch special, everything was delicious. We were very happy with our meals, cleaned both plates. Super cute place with a great vibe. We will be back.
This place is soooo fun!!! Just the perfect island vibes...and a definite locals delight. Great food, great drinks, great atmosphere. The wings are amazing, so unique! They also have a good happy hour... $7 appetizers, and the Tiki drinks are $10 for a single and $14 for a double.
Delicious. I got the ahi fish tacos and they were super filling and very good. The Kona chicken wings were also delicious. Great atmosphere and reasonable prices. Also I recommend getting one of the tiki drinks, especially at happy hour.
9.0/10 - I wrote a much longer, articulate review but the wifi on the flight dropped out so here's 50 words. The food was stellar, the atmosphere was one of a kind, and Dan - our server - was world class. He was quick with the quips and made us feel welcomed the second we walked in the door.
Great atmosphere, all workers hustling showing great work ethic and pride of their job. Many youngsters working serving waitressing hosting. All we're happy smiling and very courteous. My sister and I were seated outside great open inviting welcome comfortable atmosphere. The food was absolutely off the chart. Each dish perfectly delicious to the last bite. Amazing thing happened while existing the restaurant every single hostes and waitress said "Thank you with big smile of gratitude!" I have never experienced service like this in my life.
Love this place!! So many fun vegetarian and vegan options to choose from. There’s an entire page dedicated to vegetarian foods and another for gluten free options. Plus there are bahn mi tacos made with jackfruit that isn’t listed but ordered after staff recommended I try them. Yum!!! So glad I tried them. Two flavorful jackfruit tacos on corn tortillas, accompanied by black beans and rice. You’ve got to try the Lulukoi Pie made with passion fruit and Mexican chocolate mousse (gluten free and vegan). Absolutely delicious!! My husband got the Buddha bowl and loved it. I highly recommend this place, especially sitting in the back patio area. Just a fun laid back vibe. Food is great and staff is friendly. 👍
What a surprise. From the outside we were hesitant to try Hulas, but inside is warm, inviting and the service and food was really wonderful especially the macadamia nut encrusted fish, huge fresh crab cake and poke bowls. Looking forward to going back soon!
Forever one of my favorite restaurants in Monterey for the last 13 years. I have celebrated a many birthdays here, and it’s my go to for friends visiting from out of town. Everything is superb. I highly recommend the ceviche, calamari, any of their sandwiches, or coconut curries. Don’t skip the Ohana pie, a decadent dessert!
Food 4.5, Ambiance 5, Service 5; Always come for lilikoi pie whenever in Monterey. Pupus are tasty but are small. But the entrees didn’t disappoint. The fish stew was perfect for the cool evening sitting outside on the patio. The serving was huge and if I went diving would be a welcome meal after a cool dip. It was also tasty and full of goodies. The Buddha bowl was fresh and plentiful. Love the vibe. Our server was very personable and attentive. 4 people $150
We’ve been here before and will keep returning when in town. Consistently fun atmosphere, knowledgeable servers, and great food except for the new strange salty pudding with chia seeds that we returned to the kitchen. It was cold outside for Easter so we reserved an inside table for six. We loved the Akua planted-based kelp burger house special! The macadamia nut crusted mahi-mahi and Hula’s pan fried barramundi were also a hit. The Kingston crab curry was excellent! The drinks rule!
Second time I have been here. The food is always fresh, delicious and served with a smile. The last time I came here I discovered a new favorite beer...this time was no different. Another amazing Hazy IPA! Check out my pics for the details. If you are in Monterey, don't go to the tourist trap places that will mostly disappoint...go to Hula where everything is always on point!! I should coin that phrase!! Cheers!!
Hula never let me down. Being a common in their Santa Cruise location I decided to check out this one in Monterrey when we were visiting this cute city last time. Waiting time was only 20 minutes which is pretty short for a Sunday night. Food same good as in Santa Cruise and portions are generous. We got Hawaiian jerk plates (one chicken and one vegan), if you decide to try the same be careful with adding a sauce it’s really hot. Better add a little to some bites not all at once to not be burnt (I was first time I tried it haha) Overall recommend Hula to anyone who comes to Monterrey. It’s one of the most atmospheric places with good quality/price ratio here.
I can’t believe I was sleeping on this place, it is now one of our absolute FAVES in Monterey. The photos I added are from several different trips - everything I’ve had has been delicious. I had the Kingston Crab Curry tonight and it was just the right balance of richness & some heat. My partner almost always gets the jerk chicken because its so good too. I am obsessed with their passionfruit pie…get it. Their cocktails are fantastic as well, I like the C&K and the Kali’s Offering I think its called. They also have lighter libation options more like mocktails that have tiny scant alcohol (like just bitters with other fruit juices and such) that are also delicious for those who are non alcoholic or whatnot which is great for us as we personally reduce our alcohol consumption haha Anyways, service is always friendly and attentive. Kali (or Cali?) is an amazing server. Patient, attentive, charismatic & informative of everything on the menu as I heard a table next to us ask her a bajillion specific questions haha she remained patient and thorough with them though. Anyways, this is one of the best restaurants in Monterey with a fun cozy Hawaiian tiki vibe. Go eat here!
They serve and refill water on request only. That's what the menu said. I like that, it builds character. If you really want it, you got to put in the work. How bad do you want it? You can't just assume that water is going to be a given. This place reminded me of the feeling I get on airplanes when they're offering drinks. The old me would ask for one drink, either a water or ginger ale. If I asked for water, they'd only give me a small cup's worth. If I asked for ginger ale, I had the opportunity to get the full can, depending on what airlines I was flying. I just assumed that I couldn't ask for both at the same time. It wasn't until recently that I built up the courage to ask for both and guess what...I got. My confidence is growing now and I might even ask for three drinks the next time I'm at flight. All I'm trying to say is don't expect the waiters at Hula's Island Grill to read your mind. If you want more water, just ask for it. I think they can't refill your water without request because it's a California law to help conserve water. So they could actually be breaking the law if they refilled your cup without request. You could be considered an accomplice if you don't stop them. Anyway, the food and water I requested was amazing.
Delicious, fun, and friendly! Hula's was a wonderful stop on our Monterey trip. The atmosphere was fun with friendly staff and a beautiful back patio area. We truly felt transported with the cozy lights and beautiful palms. The food and drinks were all delicious. We sampled several of the tiki drinks, as well as the johnny cakes as an appetizer and the Mahi Mahi filet and Mango Chicken Caesar Salad as mains. I'm sure the dessert would have been just as amazing, but we were STUFFED! The staff was all friendly and were happy to keep serving us after the closing time. I highly recommend for some fun vibes right near Cannery Row.
We were looking for something outside of the cannery row area and ended up at Hula’s. Super friendly staff, an impressive cocktail menu and the atmosphere is amazing! Our food was delicious and I highly recommend the passionfruit pie for dessert :) If you’re looking for something less “touristy” this is the place to go to.
Just got in town for business and stopped in for late lunch/ early dinner. Outside dining was by reservation only, so was seated inside- which had a very cool vibe. Happy hour - so I ordered the Kona wings. Great flavor and dipping sauce was awesome. Ordered the South Seas Fish Tacos based on server recommendation and was not disappointed. Fish was grilled perfectly and slaw added nice crunch. Server talked me into the Lilikoi Pie, which was great- very light and refreshing. Melissa was my server - super friendly and did an amazing job! Highly recommend!
Hula's Island Grill is a very good restaurant. We were warmly greeted as soon as we came in. If you love to dine outdoors, the restaurant has a patio. The service staff was very patient with us. She left us time and room to decide. We were a party of six. All the dishes we ordered were delicious. I especially love my Barramundi fish with lemongrass sauce. If you are a Rum lover, don't forget to order their tiki drinks. They mix great cocktails!
Interesting spot, really chill vibes and they have both an indoor and outdoor (backyard) seating. Feels like a hip bar that’s family friendly :) Food was really good, I liked that they had a separate plant based menu with tons of options, wide selection of drinks and great dessert. We had their tacos and the lemongrass encrusted and the Ohana for dessert although I’d recommend the passion fruit pie if you’re not a chocolate lover.
Great food and the cocktails were so delicious! The prices were great for Monterey and the atmosphere is super fun. The courtyard seating has a tropical vibe and doesn't feel crowded. We arrived early (5:00) which turned out great because they have an awesome happy hour. We had the coconut shrimp rolls which were bomb! We ordered the pork plate and calamari sandwich, both were excellent. The staff was super friendly and you could tell they liked working there:) I can't wait to go back!
A hidden gem just off the main beaten path of Cannery Row. Friendly, helpful staff that provided just the perfect amount of attention. They went the extra mile to double check on our menu questions. This place caters to vegans and gluten-free, with separate menus for each. Good variety of beers, ciders, wines (including pineapple wine!) and cocktails. For cocktails, you can order a single or double serving. Good was delicious and came out relatively quickly. I’d recommend sitting in the back patio. Chill, fun, almost island-like vibes. Both shaded and unshaded tables available.
So my wife and I also came here off the back of reviews read, and read about people being glad they trusted the reviews. Well so are we! We went on a Thursday evening in January, and unlike anywhere else that evening, Hula's was buzzing. Loved the different areas of the place. We first sat at the bar enjoying a couple of drinks. The bar tender behind the "Tiki Tiki" bar was very welcoming and friendly and she looked after us well. We then sat in a nearby booth where we had great food. Enjoyed the shrimp spring rolls, then for mains, jerk chicken and also sweet potato fries. This place is great!
Incredible gluten-free meals at a dog-friendly restaurant, THANK YOU Hula! Choose the Ahi Poki bowl or the Wild Mushroom bowl if you are looking for a healthy meal. Both entrees were amazing. Our Poki was a more traditional Japanese flavor and the Mushroom curry was almost a sliver green Thai curry style. If your pup is with you they have outdoor seating off the walking path for your dog to relax.
Very fun resturant and entire section of menu dedicated to plant based & vegan options. Everything from appetizers, entrees, sides, and desserts. Really appreciate the thoughtfulness they put into not having the veg options be an after thought. Highly recommend!
One of my favorite restaurants! Love the drinks and the Dukes Luau Pork Plate and the french fries! This time my favorite drink was the Hurricane. We sat inside, next time we'll wait for outside seating. It was very crowded and VERY hot. Still my favorite! Ate outside this time and it was much better! Pele's punch was the winning drink this time!
Amazing food! Super fresh. What a great experience! Fish cerviche was incredible! Also would recommend ahi poke.
This place was delicious, had great service, and an immaculate atmosphere inside! We stopped by for dinner after the aquarium and so glad we did. We ordered the Duke's Luau Pork Plate and the Luau Pork Sandwich. I really liked the pork plate and thought the pork was tendy, juicy, and flavorful! It had a nice glaze and some pieces of pork had a tasty crust and mmm nice hints of pineapple. We also got a side of plantains. Our server was also very attentive and friendly. The interior design is awesome! It's such a cozy, retro vibe.
Everything here is excellent! If you can manage happy hour, it's even better! Tiki drinks are on-point, food is really unique and everything I've had is well-made - I highly recommend the deserts.
Had a really lovely meal here. The food was absolutely delicious, and the cozy atmosphere made it such a nice place to relax. The outside seating is fantastic too, perfect spot to sit and unwind. I had a margarita that was amazing (can’t remember which one it was, but it was definitely worth ordering!). For food, I went for the spicy Thai chicken, not too spicy, just really tasty and full of flavour. All in all, a great place to stop for good food, great drinks, and a really welcoming vibe. I’d happily come back.
Stopped in after a wonderful afternoon at the aquarium and had an awesome time! Our server was super attentive and friendly, we had 3 tiki drinks for reasonable $8 a pop on HH and had a few small plates too. The coconut ceviche was delicious- great vibes all around at Hula’s!
Was recommend to this place by a local and we are so happy we listened. Perfect spot for vegans and vegetarians/ health minded individuals. Service was fast and the food was fresh, delicious, and filling. I got the Buddha Bowl and an arugula salad - the bowl was loaded with fresh veggies and the tofu and ponzu saude we so crispy and delicious. The arugulua salad was also quite tasty. Highly recommend!
The vegetarian in our group had the Kona chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries. She loved the sandwich and the fries! My gluten free had the grass skirt burger with sweet potatoes fries. She also loved her meal. I had the Hula burger with cheddar and house fries. Mine was great we all mentioned how fresh and delicious the bread was. The atmosphere is fun and island “y” I had a ginger beer and my friend had a mai tai and enjoyed it. We are so glad we stopped in!
Absolutely amazing food! I’m celiac and the waitress was so kind to help me with GF options and do some changes to items which were not GF from the start. The food was fresh and delicious! Tons of vegan GF options too. The backyard is super cute and cozy. We felt so welcomed and left with fully happy bellies.
I didn’t realize that Tiki food can be on the healthier side . I will definitely stop by and have dinner/drinks again . It’s the perfect place for people because you can be on the loud side or quieter side or in the middle . It can get busy and sometimes the servers are just swamped but still manage to be friendly :) I got the Buddha bowl and it was so good and healthy tasting . The next day I woke up with thicker finger and toenails , no water retention or bloat . We went back and again I got the Buddha bowl but this time it had no Kim chee and more tomatoes instead and too much sauce which I spooned off. It was as if two different people made the same dish . But again it was still great :) ! For drinks I had a Zombie and it was so perfect that I had another one. The second night I had the Painkiller and again perfect .
There is Hula Island Grill, and right next door, there is an intimate little speakeasy. Same restaurant, menu, and drinks, but this one is adult only. Walk through the black velvet curtains and be transformed to another decade. Great music, amazing drinks. Our bartender Megan made mixing cocktails an art. We tried the mai tai flight and pink bikini martini. For food, we had delicious Hawaiian ceviche that was filled with flavor and a nice kick. Loved the sweet potato fries and mac and cheese that was thick and creamy. Definitely on the list of places to visit again. Great food and drinks with a touch of old-time mystery.
We have been to Hula's several times and will definitely be back. The staff are generally very friendly and accommodating. One waitress was particularly thoughtful when she realized we were vegetarians, which we really appreciated. The food is absolutely delicious and there are many vegetarian options. We can particularly recommend the bowls (Buddha and Jungle) and the cakes and pies (Key Lime and Passion Fruit).
Tasty drinks and appetizers at great happy hour prices! The wings were some of the best we have ever had and are one of the happy hour options. I went in planning to only have one drink but ended up with a second one after my first one was so delicious. Really nice friendly employees. Positive vibes. We look forward to our next visit.
We love the happy hour appetizers and drinks. Although the abalone style calamari was not part of the happy hour, we ordered it too and we were not disappointed. It was very tender and the dip was very good. We also had the Hawaiian ceviche that was refreshing and the fall off the bone kona chicken wings. My husband was happy with the double order of his cocktail and so was I with my zombie.
Absolutely amazing! Loved the vibe and decor throughout but our server, Kelly, was terrific. She was friendly, knowledgeable, helpful, and funny. We went a Saturday to celebrate my mom’s 80th birthday. We went early because we’d been driving around all day doing stuff and I was surprised how full it was there at 4pm! (But that’s a good sign!) Kelly was attentive and the food came out pretty quick. She told us about the specials so we got to try Godzilla Tots and ordered the Alaskan salmon special for one of our entrees. Perfect place for a family outing, group of friends, and even a delicious but casual dinner date! We had to take our pie to go and wait a few hours to try it since the portion sizes were so generous (and we all tried each others) so no picture of that, but we did find a license plate with our mom’s name on it!
Many vegan, gluten free and Omni deliciousness to choose from. We love coming here with our friends as the drinks are amazing and there is something delectable for everyone in the party. Come hungry …

We really enjoyed the food at Hula's. Terrific wings and all of our entrees were delicious and a good value for the price. The atmosphere was fun and the wait staff was attentive.
Cool place and cool vibes if you’re looking for a Hawaiian style restaurant. We sat on the back patio and it was really nice especially on a warm day. We ordered the Kalbi rib bento box and Lilikoi pie for dessert. The ribs were really tasty, everything else was average. The star of the show is the Lilikoi pie, it was delicious. So creamy and fruity, definitely a must have if you go.
Multiple seating areas, friendly servers, small bar by the front door. The Hawaii 5-0 drink I ordered was smooth, I couldn't taste the alcohol. Jamaican Johnny cakes were the highlight of my meal. I ordered from full page vegetarian menu, where items can be modified for vegan preferences. My spicy tofu tacos with rice and beans were ok. The Jamaican Johnny cakes were delicious, bring banana nut bread vibes with mashed plantains inside. This restaurant is pet friendly. There's a good size back patio with a bar area that you cannot see from the street! There are a few locations, but Hula's is not an official, chain restaurant.
Generous portion for fish tacos. But the shrimp roll appetizer tasted bland, and its dipping sauce was passable. The coconut cake was great but the cream cheese frosting was weirdly extremely salty (ok with me because I like sweet and salty, but I don’t think it was meant to be salted caramel level of salty).
Really nice place to enjoy lunch/dinner. The outside patio was set up nicely. Extremely good service with knowledgeable staff. Only reason why I wouldn’t give it a 5 star rating is because I was expecting some of my Hawaiian favorites such as a loco moco, spam fried rice, chicken katsu etc. What we did have, was excellent! Highly recommend the ceviche. Great twist to it by adding coconut milk. We had the Cubano tacos (rice and beans were super good), jackfruit tacos were really cool with a great taste and pork like texture, and my kids favorite were the pulled pork sandwiches. This place is a must to try if you’re visiting Monterey. Walking distance from Connery Row and the aquarium.
Nice ambience. Started rough with the wings which were quite bad. They need to re-evaluate those imo. They were really dry, the skin chewy, and the sauce did not work at all. Burger didn't look that good, very thick ground beef patty. The calamari was ok, flavor was a bit off but it was different and much better than the wings. Macaroni salad and rice were aight. The crab curry and Korean ribs were really good. Mixing the two was quite good too. Drinks were decent.
Great local spot we have been to as a family more than once in our travels to Monterey. The best item are any dish with the pulled pork. It is the best thing ever on a sandwich or rice. Wish it was available closer to home but why we stop here when we visit. Be careful the jerked food is spicy hot if sharing with kids. There is no kids menu so be aware if looking for smaller portions for kids. They do have kid friendly items but they are adult size portions. There is patio seating if you like to be outdoors when dinning. If you have a party larger that 4 during normal lunch and dinner hours be sure to make a reservation ahead of time as the wait can be long.
The tables were somewhat crowded, being too close to each other. However, the decor was charming. I ordered the Hawaiian soup with fish, shrimp, and coconut milk with lemongrass. I felt that the soup had an Asian twist to it. 😋 The soup was very delicious!! Everything was hot and fresh. My dad is disabled, and I felt that they could better accommodate disabled

Lots of table wish friends or families Fast service Good inside and outside view Easy to find the place and near parking Tasty food and nice drink
We had a nice dinner at Hula's. They've got an authentic tiki bar atmosphere straight out of the 1960sw, qne the food and service were good.
Food was delicious and the atmosphere was really good. Great music playing and a fun vibe. Plenty of choice including veggie options. Only criticism was the somewhat over zealous waitress who cle…
I was traveling solo and took myself out to dinner for my birthday. The lilikoi margarita was nice. The poke bowl failed on many counts. The fish was not flavored and didn't have a good texture…
Looking for that “local vibe” and went to Hula’s Island Grill. The reality wasn’t as good as the expectation. I had the macadamia encrusted mahi and my wife, the ahi tuna tacos. The menu paints a good picture but the food while good, was just average. I had a blood orange martini and my wife, a Blue Hawaii. Far from a martini, they were served on a faux tiki glass. Filled with crushed ice and frankly, rather tasteless. Through it all the island music is too loud for conversation but, the service was very good and attentive.
Nice restaurant but the food wasn’t seasoned the best. The mac and cheese had a weird flavor to it? The blackened halibut was very bad. The seasoning was very off. However the servers and hostesses were very nice and friendly. The food came out fast. Maybe we just got the wrong items in the menu!
Service was excellent, and outdoor seating is made comfortable with the heat numerous lamps. The food wasn’t great. Calamari needed extra flavor, so did the shrimp eggrolls, it relied heavily on the sauce. The fish came too dry and it relied on the sauce again. The curry had good flavor, a bit spicy, there’s a piece of fish on the bottom, wish it was just more crab.
Try this place out for its cool tiki-bar vibes. Wide selection of cocktails to choose from, which tastes amazing. We tried their mai tai, blood orange martini and some lime cocktail (most likely dark and stormy), all of which were very good in taste and gave a light buzz. Interesting food options as well which taste just okay though. Tasted their chimichurri/ lemongrass encrusted veggie chicken (good), Jamaican jerk chicken (good), and chimichurri/ lemongrass encrusted barramundi (disappointing, very fishy in flavor despite fried). Prices higher compared to quantity/ taste. Good and prompt service.
Stopped here for lunch while in Monterey. We went to the one in Santa Cruz a couple of years ago and liked it. I would say overall, it's solid.\n\nFood: We had the fish sandwich, the pork sandw…

Nice atmosphere and service but from the calamari app to the ahi tacos it just lacked flavor!

Not a tourist trap. so two star . But the food … chef needs basic understanding of food chemistry. Appetizer: abalone style calamari. Vile. Def Cuttle fish, bland , seemed boiled, reheated. Main: same sauce from the cuttle fish app This lime ginger sauce needs salt, some sweetness may be apple juice. It’s monotone with lime and ginger. Coleslaw: tasted astringent due to the amount of mustard and ginger. inedible! Crab curry: so much potential! Had to put a ton of salt. but again needs less ginger, something sweet . It was a torture. You can surely do better.
Oh no. The fish was frozen in a small puck, nowhere near fresh. Only reason I didn't say anything to the waitress was because she was so nice and helpful. Hospitality is amazing, food is truly terr…
Asked for plain black iced tea; got fruity something-waitress clueless. Fries saturated in oil-inedible. My husband's burger dry and overdone; mine basically raw.
I don't think I've ever been this dissapointed after dining at a restaurant. After dining here a few weeks ago while visiting Monterey, my friend and I left after eating a calamari appetizer which tasted like nothing and had the texture of rubber. How do you fail something so simple as calamari? Prices were high, service was lackluster at best, so we decided to pay the check and leave. Luckily we hadn't ordered any entrees. Fast forward a few days later, my friend shows me he's been overcharged a couple dollars more on top of the amount including the undeserved tip we left. I have pity for small businesses because I know how difficult it could be to run a business. With the overcharge, this is an exception to my rule. Here is your review...
