The food was delicious the girl who took out the order was very nice, they had no oysters today was the only down fall.

I love this place! We come here verytime we visit and it never disappoints. We had the combo, halibut and chips, fish and chips and the claim chowder!! A must go to when you visit Morro Bay!

Drove to Morro Bay from Santa Barbara to explore and have lunch. We ate at Giovanni’s a small very casual and inexpensive restaurant along the waterfront with an adequate seafood menu and a selection of hamburgers and sandwiches. There were many choices of deep fried seafood items to choose from. It is very casual (self service) with outdoor eating only and as an added bonus it is dog friendly. The food was good and there are wonderful views of Morro Rock and the bay. There is no hard liquor but they do serve beer and a small selection of wine by the glass. We really enjoyed our casual dining experience and would not hesitate to return.

Fantastic restaurant with open patio seating offering beautiful views of Morro Bay. Great flavors and excellent value for the money. The halibut is a must-try--absolutely delicious!

One of the best in Morro Bay for many years. Favorite place for seafood in MB since childhood. Worth to round trip drive from SLO! Live crab freshly cooked is incredible. Local abalone is delicious.

Great place to get some fish and chips, crab quesadilas or even poke. My friends absolutely love the clam chowder here. The poke was really good (they add a good amount of fish) and the crab quesadilla was also really good. Its a bit hard to find seating, and often has a long line.

Ate here yesterday for the first time. The food is actually really good. I had the fish & chips which was absolutely delicious and my husband had the Combo which he also said was delicious! I think we have found a new place to eat on the weekend!!

We've been going here for years and it continues to be a family favorite for us. Oysters, shrimp cocktail, fried clams, all absolutely delicious! The kids love it too! They have a lot of different options and you can't go wrong with any of it. The back deck has a great view and it's all very casual and relaxed.

Delicious food, but a long wait (Get there early or call ahead) This place is fantastic. The seafood is super fresh and delicious. We got the surf and turf burrito, grilled and fried fish tacos, and shrimp tacos. The beef in the surf and turf is philly style slices, but it’s moist and tender. The shrimp is the real star, especially in the tacos. The tacos are slightly spicy with the salsa, but fine without. Very fresh!

Excellent fish and chips and reasonably priced. Bought a family bucket of 24 pieces (relatively small bites) that came with fries or coleslaw. The view of Morro Bay was stunning too.

The service was great, and the view of Morro Rock was amazing. The food was fresh , good portions, affordable and delicious. We got the special of the day: swordfish sandwich with chips, the combo with chips, and clam chowder (I highly recommend it).

I came here to try the salmon candy. The staff was super friendly and let me sample it. It is really good. Tastes like fish version of beef jerky but with some sweet taste to it. Will definitely come back!

My husband and I enjoyed a dungeness crab here and some sides. We got a kick out of picking our crab from the tank and waving good bye as he was walked to the fryer. 30 minutes later, he returned cracked open and buttered! Fair pricing and excellent customer service. Seating is provided along the bay side with umbrella covered picnic benches and tables. Casual but confortable dining and the view of Morro Rock and boats coming and going is beautiful!

Amazing food! I went there right before the line started! There's a lot of pigeons around the eating area, but I didn't really mind it. The food was amazing! If you check in on yelp you get a small clam chowder cup! But their clam chowder bread bowl was sooo goood! It was my favorite item from the menu. Alot of people really like the fish and chips, but I got the scallops and chips. I highly recommend this place if you like fish and chips. They do a great job here!

Looking for A++++ Fish n Chips. Giovanni’s is your place. Fish is battered & fried to perfection. If u want Tarter Sauce...Great. But if want to just devour your fish with no tartar sauce that’s great too. Holy Moly... The garlic Fries r a must & don’t forget to top your meal off with San Luis Obispo garlic bread. Enjoy Greeley CO

fish tacos were delicious and the salsa they give you with them adds some good flavor but it isn't spicy. I put tartar sauce on my tacos and it was flavorful as well. my husband had the clam chowder in a sourdough bread bowl which he enjoyed as well. we will be going back next time we visit Morro Bay.

To avoid waiting in long line, order online ahead of time. Website is super easy to order from. Little odd that the pick up window for online order is in the back instead of the front but other than that is was super easy. Food is delicious, great fish & chips & clam chowder!!! Everyone was super nice and helpful. They went above & beyond. Really awesome to see happy people at work because I’m sure it’s not easy wearing a mask all day. Totally recommend!!!

We ate here a few years ago while we were on vacation. It was so good that we knew we wanted to eat here again on this vacation. I ordered the halibut burrito. It was amazing. I would totally ordered it again. My husband got the clam chowder in a sourdogh bowl. I'm not a fan of clams, but he thought it was amazing. The sourdough was excellent. We also got an order of fries. They were some of the best fries I've ever had.

We are regulars at this local spot. We buy fresh fish and seafood, love their poke bowls and tonight we enjoyed dinner. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. I’m never disappointed.

We were specifically looking for fresh seafood that was fried and had a good price and this is where we ended up. Definitely, super good. We loved the clam chowder. We went for lunch in August on a Monday and there was no line, our order was perfect and the kids ate every bite! We were also eating outside and it was beautiful out.

It was our first stop at this famous place nicely located at the Embercadero. We enjoyed a wonderful clam chowder, sat outside with a stunning view.

Great food and friendly staff. Line to order was pretty long. Seating area was nice. Prices are a little high but seem appropriate for what you get. Second visit had much shorter lines. The food was all excellent. Great view of the bay in the back seating area. Was a little disappointed with our third visit. The food wasn't as good as it had been in the past.

What a beautiful place to enjoy the ocean while having a snack 🐟🦐🦞. The seafood is fresh and tasty. The burger was good as well. I recommend fish & chips - delicious. You can sit on the patio even if you didn't order anything. They even have a Deli inside with living prawns...

Maybe other fish markets in Morro Bay are also good -- after all, Morro Bay is one of the few remaining authentic fishing towns on the California coast. But we picked Giovanni's and are very happy with the choice. The service is fast, the fish is fresh and excellent, the view is great. The fresh oysters were fresh and delicious.

E
Emily Bullard

Some of the best fish I've had in years. Their menu is very flexible; I ordered a single piece of fried cod, 3 fried oysters, and 6 raw oysters. Got exactly what I wanted and the portion was very generous for what I ordered. The oysters were large and meaty, the fish was tender, everything fried was lightly battered and everything tasted super fresh. I'm coming here every time I pass through Morro Bay, what a gem!

I've been living in Morro Bay for over 40 years Giovannie's is the best for fish and chips, calamari, or my favorite, the smoked fish! Check out their poke menu! It's heated outdoor seating and glassed in. The sea lions are usually just sleeping off their dinner nearby.

S
Sparky

Great fresh seafood. They've got some great specials in the market too. I got the salmon poke, which was really good and whatever was in it was also crisp to add another texture beside the buttery fish. Also got some shark jerky, OMG, savory good!!! I also went around to the side window where there wasn't a line and NOT by the water and ordered the breaded shark bites. Local thresher shark in a very light breading with their tarter sauce. I will get it again if they have it on special next time I'm there! The garlic fries were nice and crispy, but could not really taste the garlic, otherwise EXCELLENT fries.

You must visit Giovanni's when you're in Morro Bay! Locally caught Rockfish/Snapper is served at this local gem. I recommend that you avoid the line and walk into the market and talk to Jacob. You can pick your fish and have it grilled to choice, which is not an available option on the restaurant menu.

This place is so good we went twice. I had the popcorn shrimp the first time and then shrimp tacos and clam chowder the second. Everything is so tasty and made fresh for you. My father-in-law had the fish and chips which he loved. Anything fried here is delicious. Can't wait to go back! *7/16/24 update* So happy to be back. I was thinking of dinner here for awhile. The calamari and chips were awesome. We also got halibut and chips too. So good *6/1725 update * back again and do delicious. The food is fast and fresh and so tasty

I had lunch in here for 1st time visiting Morro Bay. People are very friendly and kind. I ordered 2 fish tacos and small clam chowder soup, it was delicious and the view from the patio to the rock is a breathtaking. Big parking lot and pet friendly.

We came here to taste the clam chowder, and to be honest it was very good very hearty lots of ingredients lots of clam in there, and we also decided paste a Calamari and chips very good and nice location and very convenient. You can order at the takeout window and eat outside very fresh.

The moment we arrived at the takeout window at Giovanni's Fish Market and Galley, we were greeted by the venue's friendly staff. We ordered the salmon and tuna poke bowls, eager to indulge in Giovanni's renowned seafood offerings. As we settled onto the dog-friendly patio, we were met with a stunning view of Morro Rock, casting its majestic silhouette against the tranquil waters of the bay. The atmosphere was relaxed and inviting, providing the perfect backdrop for our culinary adventure. The staff at Giovanni's were friendly and attentive, ensuring that our dining experience was easy and enjoyable. The patio was immaculately clean, and we felt right at home in this welcoming environment. The true highlight of the evening was the poke bowls themselves. Each bite was a symphony of flavors, with the freshness of the fish taking center stage. The salmon and tuna were incredibly tender and succulent, perfectly complemented by the vibrant array of vegetables and seasonings. It's safe to say that Giovanni's serves some of the best poke we've ever tasted. We can't wait to return for another unforgettable meal.

Always delicious whenever we visit. The latest we've been getting here are the poke bowls. So fresh and loaded - next best thing to Hawaii's poke. Always our go to when we visit Morro Bay. Great, quick service and good prices.

We got here late Christmas Eve to pick up some scallops and prawns for our celebration dinner. The staff was so helpful, they showed us how to use the de-veining tool and when he was done he gave us the prawns he had de-veined, the seasoning we picked up was very good. So we came back for crab dinner and there was some confusion I wanted cleaned crab and we got a whole crab but the crab was great and the view even better

This is always my number 1 must go to spot when I am in the area for lunch. You can't get any fresher and tastier than a surf n turf straight from the fish market! Also don't sleep on the cool Pint glasses you can buy there with your beer for just a few extra bucks. I still have mine at home.

J

Delicious seafood combo. French fries are also cooked to perfection. Favorite item was the Shrimp and Chips. Fried Oreos taste like donuts, very good. Grilled fish tacos were amazing. Outside dining area is spacious, clean and has a beautiful view of the bay. 2 Handicap bathrooms are accessible and clean.

BEST FISH & CHIPS & Calamari & chips! You’ll thank me later, the most delicious fish & chips I’ve tried, the fish is fresh, it’s crispy, yum I wish I lived closer to have these always! We went to Morro Bay to celebrate and we had to give this spot a huge shout out for their food & the customer service by Diego was 100% like being at home, so friendly! Heidi too thank you so much for making us feel at home.

Awesome find. I live in Southern California and decided to test this place out. The shipping came as described and frozen with dry ice per my requested. It was overnighted. It seemed fresh. I bought 1 whole cook Dungeness crab and the colossal prawns, that I was hoping were in fact colossal...and they were! So yummy. Like a lobster but in between shrimp/lobster. We got 4 for the 1lb. They were bigger than my chubby little hand! :) So worth the buy! My husband had 2, I had 1 and 1/2 my crab and at the rest for left overs. I'll definitely be ordering from them again.

This family-run business is known for its delicious chowder, crabs, and seafood. We enjoyed the $15 halibut chips chowder (8-13) and the half crab special (30). The garlic fries are a must-try! The chowder was fantastic, though it had a bit of saltiness. Fresh crab is a highlight. We’re not a fan of the albacore chips, but the halibut or cod are much better. Enjoy the lovely outdoor patio seating! Just a heads-up, the birds can be a bit aggressive. Shout out to the awesome staffs!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ We’ve been coming to Giovanni’s Fish Market And Galley for years, always for the king crab legs, and they have never disappointed. The quality and amount of meat have consistently been amazing, and it’s become a tradition for us to stop here for special occasions when we’re by the beach. One year in particular, we bought crab legs that were absolutely massive and unforgettable. This time, we stopped in to pick up crab for my husband’s birthday. After cooking them at home, we were really disappointed to find there was very little meat in the claws, not what we were used to at all. What truly sets this place apart, though, is their customer service. The manager, Kendall, went completely above and beyond to make things right. Today we received a beautiful box of crab, and it was handled with so much care and integrity. Mistakes can happen anywhere, but it’s how a business responds that matters, and Giovanni’s knocked it out of the park. This level of customer service is exactly why we’ll continue to come back. Customers for life. 🦀🤍

I wanted to take my time with this review because they deserve careful consideration. Every time I cruise through Morro Bay, I make sure to stop by Giovanni's. Honestly, I've never ordered anything I didn't love from Giovanni's. From the shrimp cocktail to the shrimp nachos, and the fish and chips to the poke bowl, everything is amazing. And don't even get me started on the crab quesadilla... I can say without hesitation that I had the best fried calamari that I've ever had here. If you like seafood, I'm confident that you can order anything from the prepared menu and won't regret it. But if you really want to do Giovanni's right, step into their market (with the giant clamshell out front) and order some fresh seafood to snack upon throughout the day and take home with you. You can't go wrong with the salmon bellies. My only regrets are the prepared menu items I haven't tried yet, like the grilled halibut sandwich, which I will be back for soon.

We ordered Fish & Chips together with a Clam Chowder on a sourdough bread bowl. That was good! But wait, there's more! Must try the Poke Bowl, a rice topping with fresh salmon and tuna, avocado cubes and their special sauce, the sea food fried rice, the crab special, they are all just Wow! A must try! We will surely order these again. Kudos to Giovanni Chefs. You nailed it! Btw, get inside also in their fresh market, and try the Smoke Salmon Belly on the spot. Im sure you will buy for your own takeout. Hehe. 😀 Enjoy the view of the sea and the view of the Rock of Morrow Bay!

We have been going to Morro Bay over the years since we were Cal Poly SLO students and continue to visit once in a while after we graduated. It was the first time we ate here. It was a beautiful day that we decided to order the takeout and sit in one of the outdoor tables. The person taking our order was very helpful and friendly. The seafood plates that we ordered were delicious. The prices were reasonable.

Delicious food and quick service! Was so tasty I forgot to take pictures!!! We had the Poke Bowl and bumped it up with avacado and eel sauce. She had the clam chowder. Both exceeded expectations! Conveniently located near the Embarcadero. Take a stroll after you eat and visit the otters next door! Highly recommend.

Got here around sundown in November and is was absolutely beautiful! We got the combo fried mix which came w calamari and scallops and shrimps and something else lol. Definitely worth the effort to get here and eat lol

I've been ordering fish from them for the past year via shipment to my home in SoCal. Giovanni's has been consistently excellent in every way. Great selection, top tier sushi grade fish, generous free shipping option, super fresh, and wonderful customer service. My family loves sushi but the restaurant prices for high quality salmon and tuna have gotten completely out of hand. I started ordering Giovanni's and making my own sushi rolls, nigiri and sashimi. The savings of making your own sushi vs comperable (and likely lower quality) sushi from a restaurant, is about 70%. The coho salmon, albacore, hamachi, blue fin tuna toro and more, have been nothing short of 5 star. The white sole fish has been my kids' favorite pan seared. And the tuna and salmon poke can't be beat - best meal especially when you're in a pinch. This place is the best - do not hesitate to order and make your own sushi!

We were very happy with Giovanni's. The food was good with large portions and everything tasted fresh. The combo platter was nicely done and the fried scallops were particularly good. I try to stay away from fried food, but if make an exception here. The clam chowder was the best we've had here so far and I'd go back for just this again.

One of the best clam chowders. Plenty of chunks. All the fish are fresh and served to order. Halibut by the piece and bowl of fried shark. Are very good. Plenty of seating, outdoor seating too. Pro tip. There have specials of the day. Take it. The price is good and the fresh.

A seagull robbed me of my fish stick today. I know they have warning signs up, but this was brazen. My delicious lunch was right in front of me and it was nabbed by a seagull. As I walked to get more…

Best poke bowls Hawaiian style we’ve had since living in Hawaii, also great fries, clam chowder and service. We always come here when visiting and will always come back.

T

People were raving about the clam chowder but I didn’t find anything special about it just a general bleach flour grease salt in a couple of clans chopped up Long wait in the line on a Saturday lunchtime but worth it for the food. I had a grilled halibut tacos Michelle quite filling and then a small cup of clam chowder. A glass of wine with seven dollars not bad for $31 for fresh seafood

D

Excellent as usual. These fish and chips are the ONLY ones that I eat. The garlic fries were delicious at first then kinda greasy toward the bottom.

W
W Cortez (Will)

I came to Giovanni 's for the first time and I was impressed with their clam chowder bowl. Me and my father had the clam chowder bread bowl and my wife had the chicken strips with fries. The seating was outside on a cool windy day but that didn't stop us from enjoying the food.

S
Steve C

I ordered the halibut and chips and it was very tasty, however, the cuts of the fish were equal to a large frozen fish stick. I would expect for the price to have a larger cut and a bit more meat. My wife ordered two halibut a la carte and they equaled the same amount of the full order. The clam chowder was tasty and didn't disappoint 👍

A
Andrew Alcones

Clam chowder was exactly what you expect - hits the spot. Fish and Chips were mid. Fish was hard and not seasoned as well as it could be. Line was too long so ordered and picked up at the express takeout line

A

While enjoying a beautiful and glorious day at the beach. This gem caught my eye so I decided to go and try out the sourdough clam chowder bowl and let me tell you all it did not disappoint it was amazing totally worth the wait check it out next time Morro bay.

D
David Cho

Very friendly staff and great food, which is probably why the line is so long for the BBQ oysters. Was it worth it? Yes and no. They ran out of the butter garlic after about an hour wait and only had the sriracha butter. Good, but would have been nice to know they were running low. Biggest issue is with the “system” for ordering. They have two windows, one with and one without BBQ oysters from what I can tell. The one without was short with no wait and the other very long, so you have to really want the oysters. If you are in a small group, you can have someone order chowder or some other food items so you have something to munch on while you wait. If you prefer fresh steamed crab or lobster, send someone into the fish market to order that ahead of time, cause that takes about 45 mins. If you can split up and organize, you will be fine. If you can’t and want to try different items like fresh Dungeness and oysters, be prepared to wait. Once you get to order and get your food, it’s pretty awesome!

S
Sylvia

Delicious food, overall. Get there early as a line starts before opening. Patio seating (limited and open to public-no purchase required), view of boat dock and Morro Rock (kids loved it!) Would order again: Shrimp and Chips, Shrimp and Crab cocktail (small portion but crab and bay shrimp tasty) , Clam Chowder, Garlic Bread, Fried Oreos, Chicken fingers (kid's meal) and corn dog (kid's meal) Would skip: Scallops and Chips (scallops had very little flavor) Churros (dry) Possible cons: prices, trash cans right by best view of rock, two bathrooms always busy, birds looking for food right by your feet.

Phil D. May - Farm to Coast

This is a tough one for me. There are two sides to this business, a restaurant and a fresh seafood counter including smoked fish and a various assortment of poke and crab spreads. I give them a 5 star for their assortment and variety. I have noticed that prices have gone way up over the past few years, I'm sure its a supply and demand issue. I've noticed as of late that that there are a few more farmed options, not wild caught. I'm not a huge fan of farmed fish but that's just me. It's been well over 15 years that I've eaten lunch there for fish and chips so I can't comment on the cooked food quality. They offer fresh crab and lobster which is a great option for those who want super fresh. I think the Yellow fin and Blue fin tuna are excellent choices as well as the halibut. Look for sale prices during holiday's like Labor Day. They had a great sale price on halibut. As far as customer experience, I would say they are ok, not great. They are somewhat friendly and they do take care of business but as far as being super friendly, it's not their jam. Overall, this is a great place to visit for fresh fish or lunch or dinner and has great views of the harbor and Morro Rock. There are quite a few huge sea lions in the area that are always barking and saying hello to all the visitors.

We ordered: halibut & chips, shark nuggets, and a California bowl. The halibut was good! I wish the California bowl had more protein but I still enjoyed it.

I like this place, not because of the foods alone but they even have the fish market on-site. They are choices for you from burgers to kinds of seafood. They have it all, I actually loved their clam chowder which was tasty and fresh. We ordered the burrito which was huge, a bowl of clam chowder, and Philly cheese sandwiches with French fried. The foods were delicious and the prices were practical. The services were fast and friendly. On the second day we came back I ordered a basket of seafood combo which was enough for us three to enjoy. It was off-season because of Covid, but the lines were busy. Overall, they have good food and service.

Great views, quick service. We had grilled red snapper and fried oysters. Fish sandwich was ok but my husband was very happy with his fried oysters. Fries are delicious. We enjoyed watching the crabs being prepared for the crab boil.

Clam chowder bread bowl , poke bowl, seared salmon...all good. They had a special popcorn shrimp, they were kinda salty. Loved that we could enjoy our lunches outside with our fur babies. Another plus is that they're located right next to the "Otter Nursery". Super cute watching the otters.

Always my go to place when in Morro Bay. Ordered the fresh oysters after waiting in line for a while. When I also ordered the BQ oysters, I was told I should order it from the other window which also has a long line. It's the same rish stand so I don't understand why both windows don't cater same food. Still my fave place. Love the food!

Great spot for seafood! Half a crab was so fresh, comes with cup of clam chowder and garlic bread. The bread was so garlicky, soft and delicious! Also got the ahi tuna poke bowl and it was ok, a lot of rice, and I didn’t any extras to it.

First time here, life long 805er! I do have to say this place was pretty good! I had the Tuna Melt with the garlic fries and my son had the Clam Chowder with the Sourdough bread bowl. I've never had a tuna melt before, it was pretty good. My son said the chowder was tasty too. I dig the outside seating and the fact they have a 15% MILITARY DISCOUNT!!! Hell yeah, I always look for places that offer this and let others know too.

Visited on recommendation from a friend living in a nearby city. Prices reasonable and food was good. Orlando I believe that was his name was personable. Gave samplings of the salmon. It was a must buy. Got the crab fired rice and clam chowder. Delish. I suspect the other dishes were just as good. Visited on Wednesday so no line and ample seating. There are Two windows on opposite sides. One Oceanside and the other off the street. I can easily imagine this place getting packed. There was a pod of sea lions were close by so we had nice little concert right there. A must stop for fresh seafood. I believe it would be a staple for future visits.

OK, I stand corrected! I posted a review yesterday and said the clam chowder I had at Splash in Pismo Beach was some of the best I've had. Well, the clam chowder at Giovanni's is better! It's a little creamier, a lot more of the clam flavor, and it's not just in a bread bowl (like Splash), but a sourdough bread bowl. We also had the scallops & cole slaw and it was good, but not as good as I was hoping - the batter took away from the scallops. An added bonus, if you Yelp Check in at Giovanni's, you get a FREE cup of their clam chowder :-) We stopped in around lunchtime, and parking wasn't too bad, nor was the line at Giovanni's - maybe 10-15 mins. There is plenty of outdoor seating in front or out back and out back you get a nice view of the Morro Rock.

We ended the day at Giovanni's for some fish and chips and clam chowder. The chowder was creamy, but with a tad more salt than I would normally eat. Great portion for the size and it came piping hot. The fish and chips came with 5 pieces, but they were thin and nicely fried. The fries were crispy, which is always a plus. The place is self serve. Order at the window and choose your own outdoor seating. We had a nce sunset view.

Nice view and dog friendly patio. Fish and chips were good. Tater sauce a little strange. Clam chowder was great! Cole slaw nothing exciting. By the time we left there was a huge line. Seems to be a popular place w locals too. Enjoy!

This place is always my go-to whenever I’m in the area. The service is quick, and I really enjoy the patio seating by the water—it’s a relaxing spot with a great atmosphere. However, I was a bit disappointed with the fish and chips. I expected fresh, locally caught fish, but it turns out they use frozen Alaskan halibut or cod. It didn’t quite meet my expectations for a coastal location. The calamari was tasty, but the portion was small for the price—especially when compared to what most restaurants offer as an appetizer. It was also served with a heavy portion of fries, which felt like filler. Overall, I’d rate the food 3 stars. I added an extra star for the clean restrooms, pleasant outdoor seating, and the overall vibe of the place.

Ya they have more than deep fried fish, but even if it’s not deep fried, it’s on the oily side. My smoked tuna sandwich dropped oil. But if you like this kind of fare, this is your place!

Food - average Prices- below average Veiw was amazing. Birds were annoying. Got the scallops n chip ( below avg), wife got the calamari and chips.(avg). Got the side of clam chowder (avg) and special "shark nuggets" (suked). Idk if I would come back.

Ordered clam chowder, swordfish special and snapper. Clam chowder is pretty good. Fresh clams. Swordfish was disappointing - super salty that’s it’s almost unbearable. Don’t need much seasoning for fresh fish. Snapper was really fresh and seasoning was balanced.

We've been in Morro Bay before but never ate here . This time, we drove from San Francisco to Morro Bay and decided to try out their famous clam chowder. We got the bread bowl and the shrim burrito 1 large soda and 1 pitcher of 805 beer. This review is solely on my personal experience. I feel like the Clam chowder is good, no doubt it, but we tried on the bread bowl and was a bit cold. I'm not sure if it's the bread or what. Then, we got it on an actual bowl, and it tasted 100 times better. The burrito was plain nothing wow about it. The beer was warm, which was a little disappointing because I liked my pitcher cold, but regardless, this restaurant was good, and the prices were affordable

They’re best known for their clam chowder, so I had to see what the hype was about. I ordered the clam chowder, and while it was decent, it didn’t quite live up to expectations. The flavor leaned heavily toward celery, which overpowered the clam taste, and the portion was small for the price. Nothing memorable there. We also got a seafood combo with octopus, fish, calamari, and scallops, plus chips. It was solid — everything was cooked fine and seasoned okay — but again, no wow factor. The garlic fries were probably the highlight for me: crispy, flavorful, and definitely worth grabbing. My daughter got chicken and chips. Heads up: there’s usually a long line, and it moves slowly — not because of the staff (they were efficient), but because a lot of people stop to ask a million questions. Also, note that there are two lines on both sides of the building, which can be confusing if it’s your first time. Overall, it’s a fun spot to try once for the experience, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to return.

I went into Giovanni’s with healthy expectations but left disappointed. The clam chowder was unfortunately not edible. The spicy tuna poke bowl was good, and the raw oysters on the half shell looked fresh, but the experience was lacking. They were served only with cocktail sauce—which was oddly sweet, more like ketchup—and lemon wedges. There were no other standard accompaniments like mignonette, horseradish, or hot sauce. Without those, even the oysters themselves tasted far below expectations.

It was fine def not worth the price. The bacon burger was underwhelming. Even it’s a sea food place. We’re in America there should be no bad burgers anywhere.

Today was my next time here and I was extremely disappointed. The restaurant usually has a crowd and it looks like one has lost the standard of quality. This time we ordered sandwiches with soft shell crab. It was extremely over-fried. I add images. But what is really terrible is that it looks like restaurant keep using yesterday’s oil while cooking today. You can easy smell that as not fresh one. Also clam chowder was a potato chowder. We could not find many claims, but a lot of potato cubes. And stuff was so busy that even lime was left with Sticker on it :-( We loved this place before, but never again! We will miss that good Giovanni with great reputation we tried before while visiting lovely Morro Bay, not that terrible poor quality corner as we see it now. Good bye! There are many other good restaurants in this cozy town to try!

Sadly the fish was very bland, but kind staff and decent portion size. Would not recommend though

Mediocre quality food. Staff was friendly but would not return. - Oysters were ok and fresh. Buttery kind. - Steamed crab was very bland flavored. They said they ran out of crackers (tool to open the shells with) so we had to open them with hands which was quite tough. It would've been nice if they told us at least at the time of ordering. - Halibut & Chips. Again, very bland. Not seasoned. - Cocktail shrimps. DO NOT BUY⛔️ Tiny shrimps in a cup that they charge for $12. Not the normal finger sized shrimps you'd expect.

I’m writing this at 1:30am from my hotel room, sick as hell puking my guts out! The only thing I had was their shrimp nachos and an oyster! Haven’t stomached anything else since. Immediately after eating I began to feel ill. Nothing smelled fishy so I don’t doubt their freshness, however there’s so many other ways to get food poisoning from sea food such as contaminated seafood, cross contamination, non cleanliness of the kitchen/cook.

Absolutely terrible experience at Giovanni’s in Morro Bay. I placed a simple to-go order and it took almost an hour and a half to be ready — completely unacceptable. Every time I checked in, the staff gave me misleading updates about “just a few more minutes,” which clearly wasn’t true. When I finally got my food, all the sauces were missing and one entire item was left out of the bag. After such a long wait, the least they could do was make sure the order was complete, but even that didn’t happen. This was one of the most frustrating and disappointing restaurant experiences I’ve had in years. I won’t be coming back, and I suggest anyone looking for reliable service look elsewhere.

Had a crab dish. Virtually empty with no meat inside. Not very fresh either. They should not sell such a crap at such a high price.

Thank you for the feedback to my honest review. The tasteless smoke treatment was not disclosed on your site. I understand the impact of low rating but I have to be very objective on my experience as consumer. Looking forward to see your improvement on product description as well as quality standard behind your product. Here's a reference to anyone who cares or wanting to know more about what is tasteless smoke treatment. "Many countries have prohibited or chosen not to approve the use of carbon monoxide (CO) or "tasteless smoke" for use in fresh meat or fish packaging. These bans are primarily due to concerns that CO can mask spoilage by retaining a bright red color in meat and fish, potentially misleading consumers about the product's freshness. Countries that have banned or not approved the use of carbon monoxide for food preservation include: European Union (EU): Prohibited the use of carbon monoxide for meat and tuna products in 2003, according to FoodNavigator-USA.com. This decision was based on concerns that the stable color could last beyond the microbial shelf life of the meat and mask spoilage. Japan: Does not allow the use of carbon monoxide treatment for fish like tuna, yellowtail, and tilapia. Canada: Does not recognize or approve the use of carbon monoxide treatments for fresh or frozen fish. Singapore: Also bans the use of carbon monoxide in tuna. It's important to note that while these countries have banned or restricted the use of CO, it is still considered Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) by the FDA in the United States. However, the use of CO in meat packaging remains a contentious issue in the U.S., with debates and calls for better labeling practices to inform consumers." Giovanni’s fish market has been our must visit when passing Morro Bay area. We’ve placed their online order a few times. It’s been a while since our last order. We love their smoked fish and locally sourced seafood. The frozen bluefin toro we received recently were “product of Indonesia with tasteless smoke added to retain color”. When i double check on their website, i realize they had disclose that the fresh frozen was indeed from Indonesia. It’s my mistake not to pay attention about this details since my last purchase was indeed locally sourced. But the preservative method of tasteless smoke is something that i am not a fan of. I’ve also had a bad experience when i purchased some frozen blue fin toro from Indonesia in local grocery a few months ago. So I am really disappointed when i received them. After i called the store, someone told me they would have to check with their manager and email me back regarding about this issue. Haven’t heard anything from them so far.

Ordered the combo and garlic fries, very dissapointed with the flavor of both. Seafood tasted just like oil, no seasoning at all, both dipping sauces where not tasty and the garlic fries were cold and tasted very badly.

I found Imperial is pretty legit. Did you guys read part 2? I was there before and wasn’t planning to go back. I believe in second chances. Question for the owner. Whats your take on Imperials part 2? I’m not somebody to stand in line and wait to file a complain. Or right a review but my sisters are coming to town and they asked me about a good places to eat. I looked it up and you and dockside popped up. I’m just wondering what you are going to do to make it right for us people that don’t recommend you and had a bad experience at your restaurant? Read Imperials part 2 in her original review.

Well what started as a family outing to see the annual Boat Parade this past Saturday in Morro Bay, it kinda went down the tubes at dinner. Dinner for 5, outside seating and $135.14 was ok, but the food was AWFUL! The “Battered” fish were literally “BATTERED”! The chef/cook had to be one, either used fish pieces from the scrap section or two, tiny fish double “Battered” along with quite a few EXTRA minutes in the deep fryer swimming. It was to late to complain because they closed before we finished our dinner. For the price, service and food, ONE STAR! So if your take is that the restaurant was closing and that’s why our food was bad, your wrong! During business hours open to close, quality, experience and service are major factors in the business. I truly believe that this should help the owners know that this party of 5, not 1, 2, 3, 4 but 5 people were NOT satisfied PART 2 TO YOUR RESPONSE; Key phrases from you, "That’s simply not how we run things. If something wasn’t right, we wish we’d had the chance to address it on the spot. We stand behind our food and service, and we hope you’ll give us an opportunity to earn back your business." Here,,,,your on the spot, no excuses! It's pretty clear in the picture and my verbal description that, that's how your kitchen was ran! Standing behind your food is NOT "hoping" for an opportunity for us to be back! You mean your asking me to double down another $135.14???? Your kidding right? Your verbal response is kinda insulting. Think about this, if there we're 100 receipts for $135.14 in 1 month and all of them would never return, that's $13,514 in 1 month. Now in one year not having 1,200 people NOT return equals to $162,168.00, that just has to hurt! Your stars should NOT be 4.3, they should be a 5 or close to it, not 4.3! Look not everyone is going to right a review or take the time to stand in line and ask you to make it right, they just aren't. Take this review as a valuable learning experience. Don't offer an "opportunity" offer your service you talked about. Make Giovanni's stronger, better and maybe just maybe you'll hit the 5 stars sooner than later. Something free is not the answer, inviting someone back SINCERELY, humble and very inviting is what will NOT let you lose out on possibly $162,168.00 every year. Double down on yourself and really process this as "YOUR OPPORTUNITY" to make me want to come back and spend another $135.14.
