We always liked getting lunch roll specials which are fantastic. The only issue was a complete lack of customer service by hostess and servers. After the reopening, the new staff is completely different and amazing, which makes the entire experience so much enjoyable!

We ordered a hibachi meal, sashimi dinner and two appetizers. All of them were extremely delicious. I highly recommend this place. The service was also very friendly. The environment was great as well.

🎉 Birthday Lunch Celebration at Taisho Bistro Japanese Izakaya – Rochester, NY 🇯🇵🍱 We came to Taisho Bistro for a late lunch to celebrate my daughter’s birthday, and it turned out to be such a satisfying experience! ✨ What we ordered: • Ika Maruyaki (Grilled Squid): Beautifully presented, perfectly grilled, and tender with a nice smoky aroma. The glaze adds just the right touch of sweetness and umami. • Omurice: While it looked gorgeous and colorful, it was more like a regular fried rice wrapped in an egg blanket rather than the traditional creamy omurice. Still flavorful, just not what I expected. • Katsu Don: Crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside — the pork cutlet over rice was comforting and delicious. My daughter ordered hibachi, and she absolutely loved it! The portions were huge and packed with flavor — definitely great value for money. 💬 The service deserves a shoutout too — very patient, friendly, and attentive, making our birthday celebration even more enjoyable. If you’re in Rochester and craving Japanese comfort food with warm service, Taisho Bistro is a solid pick. 🍶🍜

I ordered the Shrimp Tempura Box, Pork Bun'Fried', Chicken Tempura Roll, Gyoza, and the Fried Noodles. Let me start off by the pork bun Fried. I highly recommend it. it's very delicious. I was not expecting that at all. the bento box was very yummy, fresh, and delicious as well. this was my first time trying this place, and it did not disappoint at all everything was so fresh. I recommend you try this place ASAP. I promise you'll not be disappointed this place is now in my top 3 Japanese restaurants in rochester. So far, I'll definitely be ordered and / or going there to eat again. Thank you so much, Taisho Bistro.

I love Taisho Bistro! I’ve dined in with my sister a couple of times and I can’t hesitate to say that we’re always so pleased with the food and service every time we stop in. I really like their Takoyaki dish as well as their miso soup; it’s very comforting! Their sushi is always so good and their staff is great and always willing to help out. There are also a lot of great food options as well! Overall, Taisho Bistro is one of the better restaurant places to get good quality food that’s worth it!

This place is a true gem. I have never once bough something here that I didn't love. The ramen is so flavorful and the sushi is hand crafted with flair to perfection. This is also the only place I know that serves takoyaki! Me and my girlfriend are regulars here and you couldn't ever change my mind about how wonderful this place is. Amazing place to go on a date night too

Taisho Bistro Japanese Izakaya offers a decent dining experience, though it comes with a higher price tag. The taste of the dishes is satisfactory, but not exceptional, with the sushi being decent but not the best I've had. While it's a pleasant spot for a meal, the value for money could be better. If you're nearby and craving Japanese food, it's worth a try, but don't expect to be blown away.

The place is usually good, been here several times but the problem definitely feels like its wait staff. Staff seems to prioritize DoorDash orders than customers in the store, like the food but last time i went my sashimi seemed not properly thawed. Reason the 4/5 for food is because we have been there several times and that was my worst on the kitchen experience

The shrimp fried rice was excellent and came with a choice of soup or salad. I also enjoyed white tuna sashimi. My one complaint was that we were rushed to finish our meals. The staff had their jackets on and were pacing by the front door. They were open until 10pm, but started rushing us out by 9:40pm. They actually walked out right behind us at 9:50pm. We had only gotten there at 9:20pm so expecting us to order, eat, finish, and pay in 20 minutes was a bit crazy.

This place is really unassuming since it's in the plaza. I'll start with the staff being on point. The menu is friendly for people not familiar with a lot of Japanese cuisine since it has pictures which is nice seeing as how rare it is in Rochester. My food was very nice visually; they have all their own branded dinnerware and the place has that bistro atmosphere with an open kitchen. The stock in my ramen could have been better but overall my food was good as well as prices. I'm not much of a sushi person but this is definitely the place to get yakitori.

The food is really hit or miss. It is very inconsistent with quality. There are some great menu items like the kani salad, pork buns, gyoza, and karage. The regular sushi rolls are okay. They’re good for the price. Portions are fine, not really much to say about it. The special rolls are more inconsistent especially for the price and quality of ingredients, portions, and seaweed breakage. The worst part of eating sushi is when it falls apart before it makes it to you. Another worst experience is paying for a special roll, for example, dragon roll - filled with eel/ cucumber, topped with avocado, and have a sliver of eel and 95% cucumber filling. It is not worth the price if you’re expecting balance. This has happened 2/3 I’ve been there where rolls are poorly prepared. We ordered the katsu curry and the curry is very watery. Kinda like they took the remnants of remaining broth, poured a lot of water, didn’t mix it well because it’s weirdly chunky, and poured it over the katsu. Service is lacking. You order, get your food, and you wouldn’t see the server again - not even for water refills. I hesitantly and politely voiced my concerns about the food and I was told I was wrong.

A reservation was made ahead of time to ensure they’d be open because it was a holiday. Then about 30 minutes to the reservation, they call to say they’re closing up early and if we can move our reservation to the next day. Don’t know about other people but when reservations are made it’s with plans of eating THAT day not any day in the region. Never been here before and this was such an off putting experience.

So I went here expecting a good meal, and what I received was sub par. I ordered the pork cutlet curry and expected curry I got gravy it had no spice at all, and the poatoes were far too soft- the plating was nice and the rice was ok but definatly nothing a 10 year old couldnt make. My partner got the the spicey miso ramen and it was also very bland it didn't taste good, it was so bland my partner didnt even sip the broth - it was unsatisfying, on top of that - the miso soup that went with my meal had no tofu in it. When I asked about it she just said that it doesnt come with tofu, but the photo in thier menu clearly showed tofu in the miso soup. Why advertise the soup having ingredients it doesnt have? Not only that it was litterly just broth not even worth drinking niether me nor my partner had more of it then one taste - determining it to be very unsatisfactory. Later We had asked for mushroom skewers and was refused due to it being too busy? Which if it's something you can order when its not busy why cant I when its busy? Id be paying for it. So not only was the food bland i couldn't even get something that wouldve been at least ok. when asked if our meal was good my partner said its fine but I said its not really good however the waitress was overwhelmed with tables and didnt hear me, service was innatentive - not the waitresses fault here but clearly there is a staffing problem. Before we even left as im getting my bag and jacket we havent left the table yet, the dish guy comes by and starts grabbing everything and knocks my vape to the ground. He gets it of course but it was rude to start doing that before we left-- they were really busy and understaffed so I understand why he would do that however i needed only a minute there wasnt need to rush us out like that. We only go out to eat like this once maybe twice a month and to be given food that I could have a child make for half the price is sad. Overall im very disappointed
