It's small but not claustrophobic; the decoration is very nice and the staff was friendly. Food came quickly despite the restaurant being full when we went on a Saturday night. Everything tasted great! I will be going back.

As an animal fan I always wanted to try Curry rice and omurice (omelet rice). I had omurice and miso soup. They were delicious.

This is probably the best Japanese food I’ve had in NY. The prices are very reasonable and the best part is the menu includes pictures of everything. There are so many appetizers I want to try! So far I’ve had the takoyaki, ika maru, and the hot pot- all were amazing. Also the sushi was by far some of the best I’ve ever had!

I had the 2 roll lunch special. I picked the Asparagus Roll and the Shrimp Tempura Roll. Rolls were delicious and you cannot beat the $8 price. I will return to this restaurant and it will be soon.

First time coming to Taisho after raving reviews from friends and colleagues. The Henrietta location had a beautiful interior and being able to watch the chefs cook basically in front of you was pretty cool. Service was top notch, ordering between apps and our entrees was timed perfectly and food came out at the perfect pace. Miso Soup, Seafood Soup, garden and kani salads, as well as the kimchi were great. I personally ordered two kinds of sashimi (White Tuna and Yellowtail) which were decent as well! fish was pretty fresh and had a sort of "melt in your mouth" feeling which was very pleasant. Rocky Shrimp app was the greatest from the first round of dishes. In terms of the entree portion of our meal, the Beef Yakisoba and the Chicken Katsu were 10/10's in my book. The only plate that I considered as "ehh" was the Tako Leg Yakitori, but I must have not been familiar with the Japanese style way of cooking octopus. Great flavor but a bit chewy for my liking. Chill vibes overall, would recommend!

I've tried both the bbq squid and the teriyaki chicken for lunch takeout and both were delicious. Also tried the Ramune Japanese soda which is sealed with a glass marble and fun to open. The soda itself is good and tastes like Sprite and I've even found it at Wegmans. The location at Taisho Bistro was clean and I was happily greeted by the staff behind the bar when I came in. Definitely recommend this place.

Every time I order it’s just as good as the first time! I love getting an eel roll, shrimp tempura & Takoyaki the most. The seafood miso ramen and katsu curry are other favorites of mine. I’ve only gotten Uber eats delivery, I can’t wait to go here on a date with my partner.

I was here with my friend last week. They have Good service and nice sushi decoration. Love their special miso ramen with super soft pork and perfect cooked eggs. Would recommend for my local friends to come and try the Volcano sushi bar and their traditional ramens.

Delicious! Taisho Bistro has a large menu with a wide variety of different Japanese/Asian dishes, sushi, sashimi, nigiri, ramen, udon and rice bowls, yakitori, cooked fish, and meats off the grill. The presentation of each dish was beautiful and the chef(s) obviously take great pride in their work. The service was warm and friendly. It’s not a large restaurant, a little more intimate, but well worth the trip and many return trips.

Had a last minute birthday celebration and the staff was kind enough to give the birthday boy a free ice cream!

In town visiting family. It's a tradition to go out for dinner together the night before I leave town. Taisho Bistro was recommended. The family went for dinner on a Saturday. Our server was very attentive (and fast!). Our table had Japanese fried rice with shrimp; grilled salmon; and noodles with chicken and vegetables. Everything came out hot and was delicious! For dessert we ordered fried ice cream, strawberry shortcake, and a cheesecake xangos. The fried ice cream and cheesecake xangos were delicious. The plating was really well done. I didn't care for the strawberry shortcake. The cake was not as moist as I would have expected and the strawberry filling seemed frozen. The family is looking forward to returning and trying takeout as well as other items on the menu. I am looking forward to returning the next time I am in town.

I love their sushi, pork belly buns, and BBQs. Not really a fan of Osaka style octopus ball, and ramen soup was Ok. But overall i love that place. Clean, nice decoration and servers are very nice too.

Hidden gem! Everything was fresh, flavorful and just amazing. Very inexpensive also. The wasabi pork dumplings were great, as was the beef tataki. Chicken yakitori were super flavorful. So good!

First time and I can say I'm very impressed. We got two during appetizers and they were light, flavorful and came out very fast. I got the vegetable ramen (miso) and it was amazing!!! The tuna amazing roll was really good (although the tempura bits were stale). Most surprising was the tiramisu!!! I love tiramisu and this was top ten. Fantastic!!! Highly recommend.

Was looking for a new sushi place to try while in Henrietta and found this place! So happy I did. Just walking in and seeing the decor, I knew I'd like it here. The bento dinner was perfect and the rolls were wonderful. The staff was friendly. I enjoyed dining here!!!

Not sure how it took us so long but my wife and I are very happy to have found this gem! Overall there was a great selection and we enjoyed pretty much everything thoroughly. We also liked the menu has pictures of everything. We started with the Okonomiyaki and be warned, it is gigantic! For our daughter we ordered the kids chicken hibachi and that came with lots of food. My wife ordered the American Dream roll, which she thoroughly enjoyed. I ordered the smelt, squid legs, chicken heart, and chicken yakitori (the heart was the best of the bunch) and a bowl of Taisho style ramen. The broth could have had a little more unctuous umami but was still quite good. I could easily see coming with some friends and ordering some drinks and a bunch of yakitori.

We had my favorite California roll and spicy salmon roll which was awesome, one of the best I have had. Volcano roll is a cooked sushi which was ok, May be because I prefer raw over cooked one. I tried eel for the first time which was so yummy, gonna have that again. And also hot sake was good for the cold weather. Place is cozy and clean.

I was not expecting that at all. the bento box was very yummy, fresh, and delicious as well. this was my first time trying this place, and it did not disappoint at all everything was so fresh. I really like their Takoyaki dish as well as their miso soup; it’s very comforting! Their sushi is always so good and their staff is great and always willing to help out. There are also a lot of great food options as well! Overall, Taisho Bistro is one of the better restaurant places to get good quality food that’s worth it!

I go here often with a few friends. I have not had any issues until recently with the service. There is this one waiter who is rude and does not get our order right after specifying what we would like. At first, I thought it was a simple mistake, however, it happens EVERY SINGLE TIME with the same waiter. Eventually, we would get this waiter a lot more and her attitude has gotten very rude. Other than this problem, the food is pretty good and the waiting time is not too bad.

I love this place. The decorations are great and I like the low lighting. The only issue I had with it is that everything is.. sticky. The menu and the tables especially, and i’ve sat at many different tables here. But besides that, the service is pretty good and my food tasted great. I had the Katsu curry. Time for my food to arrive was not longer than expected, maybe 10 minutes. Overall I like this place, my friend said the sushi wasn’t great but overall it’s a nice restaurant.

The menu for this place will leave you dumbfounded on what to try first. My companion and I had two ramen bowls (miso and taisho style) (taisho was better in my opinion). We also ordered a pork belly bun, mackerel, sushi (yellowtail & scallion) (eel & cucumber) and they were delicious! I probably would’ve ordered more if I wasn’t in such a rush. However, I did decide that I would come back 2 or 3 more times to enjoy & explore the menu. All and all I thoroughly enjoyed myself, the food and the atmosphere. I can see how this place was busy on a Friday Night. With so many wonderful aromas filling the air it was hard for me to leave. Authentic Japanese food (from a Chinese perspective). Noodles and rice are ok good, but the appetizer BBQ is very good. Yakitori, bacon scallops, smelt, chicken skin, can’t go wrong. If you order too many sushi or BBQ, it might be pricy, so plan it out. Try 2-3 each visit with main dish (rice or noodle) might be good (think about your budget). Lunch special is also a good choice if you don’t want to spend too much.

Love this place! Great food, friendly staff, up beat atmosphere. The prices seem to be fluctuating a bit, and sometimes the bathrooms need to be attended to a little more frequently than they do but besides that, no complaints.

Ordered through Uber Eats from their lunch menu. Salmon plate was good but salmon was not that flavorful. But loved kimchi and the dressing. Soup was very bland though. Shrimp dish was good but my husband said other Asian food places we have tried had better lunch menu dishes (flavor). Portion size was good for lunch.

I really like this place! I love the atmosphere. It's a little bit dark, a little bit moody, and a little bit mysterious. There's always good ecclectic music playing, and the staff are all really friendly. I've been here several times and every time, somebody from the kitchen thanks me as I leave. I always get the volcano roll because...I don't know, I like a fried roll! Each bite is tasty and all the flavors are well balanced (sometimes I get a bit too much cream cheese in a bite, but not always.) I also enjoy a spicy tuna roll, a California roll, or a tempura roll. Always tasty, and I always leave satisfied. I can't wait to try more off their menu!

First time to try and it did not disappoint. Sauce was not too heavy on the hibachi chicken. Ginger salad dressing was a little bland but still good. Dumplings were as good as anywhere. Overall a good experience for a relatively fast meal on a travel day.

I’ve been going to Taisho Bistro in Buffalo for quite some time and I love it there. Was surprised to find out yesterday that they have a location in Rochester as well. The food quality seems to be on par with the Buffalo location, fish seemed fresh and the seasoning was very similar in both. The only thing I disliked is that we ordered some Japanese beer and it was room temperature, other than that is a very decent sushi/hibachi restaurant. I ordered beef tataki (delicious, meet was very rare as it’s supposed to be, and ponzu sauce mix was great), salmon torch (my favorite item on the menu, a slice of salmon sashimi wrapped around spicy crab meat and some sauce that I believe is some sort of miso reduction/emulsion), sushi was fresh and had a good ratio of rice and fish. Taisho Bistro Japanese Izakaya offers a decent dining experience, though it comes with a higher price tag. The taste of the dishes is satisfactory, but not exceptional, with the sushi being decent but not the best I've had. While it's a pleasant spot for a meal, the value for money could be better. If you're nearby and craving Japanese food, it's worth a try, but don't expect to be blown away.

Staff seems to prioritize DoorDash orders than customers in the store, like the food but last time i went my sashimi seemed not properly thawed. The shrimp fried rice was excellent and came with a choice of soup or salad. I also enjoyed white tuna sashimi. My one complaint was that we were rushed to finish our meals. The staff had their jackets on and were pacing by the front door. They were open until 10pm, but started rushing us out by 9:40pm. They actually walked out right behind us at 9:50pm. We had only gotten there at 9:20pm so expecting us to order, eat, finish, and pay in 20 minutes was a bit crazy.

This place is really unassuming since it's in the plaza. I'll start with the staff being on point. The menu is friendly for people not familiar with a lot of Japanese cuisine since it has pictures which is nice seeing as how rare it is in Rochester. My food was very nice visually; they have all their own branded dinnerware and the place has that bistro atmosphere with an open kitchen. The stock in my ramen could have been better but overall my food was good as well as prices. I'm not much of a sushi person but this is definitely the place to get yakitori.

I went here a year ago and it was phenomenal however I went back this weekend, and had a totally different experience. I ordered ramen and some sushi, sushi was decent. But the ramen was completely flavorless. I tried to nicely tell my server and I asked for seasoning, or if the kitchen could do something to make it not so plain. Server didn’t understand and when I repeated and said it was plain, she looked at me and said “no” and smiled and repeated herself telling me no. I’ve tried a lot of different food, and usually an accent or such isn’t an issue but there seemed to be a big disconnect between the kitchen and the floor staff at this visit.

Foods tastes okay and the serving portions are large. Service speed is fine, though one of the female servers were not as friendly and welcoming to the guests. Overall, this restaurant is just average.

The food is really hit or miss. It is very inconsistent with quality. There are some great menu items like the kani salad, pork buns, gyoza, and karage. The regular sushi rolls are okay. They’re good for the price. Portions are fine, not really much to say about it. The special rolls are more inconsistent especially for the price and quality of ingredients, portions, and seaweed breakage. The worst part of eating sushi is when it falls apart before it makes it to you. Another worst experience is paying for a special roll, for example, dragon roll - filled with eel/ cucumber, topped with avocado, and have a sliver of eel and 95% cucumber filling. It is not worth the price if you’re expecting balance. This has happened 2/3 I’ve been there where rolls are poorly prepared. We ordered the katsu curry and the curry is very watery. Kinda like they took the remnants of remaining broth, poured a lot of water, didn’t mix it well because it’s weirdly chunky, and poured it over the katsu. Service is lacking. You order, get your food, and you wouldn’t see the server again - not even for water refills. I hesitantly and politely voiced my concerns about the food and I was told I was wrong.

Visually, the restaurant was very pleasing. We walked in and were seated immediately as the restaurant was not busy, maybe five other tables. We ordered our food within 10 minutes of being seated. There were four of us, we all ordered lunch menu hibachi with the exception of one who ordered three rolls. While waiting for our food we took notice of take out box after take out box being made and set on the bar, this continued for 40 minutes. After 50 minutes from placing our order the food arrived. It looked great, well presented and well placed. The vegetable and meat portion seemed small considering the price however I assumed it was the lunch portion. I hoped the flavor would make up for it, it did not. The food was cold and the steak was cooked at the wrong temp. The others with me had similar complaints; food cold and portion size small for the price. Overall, the food was good, not great, the staff was friendly and the atmosphere was nice. With that being said, I have no intention of going back. However, I do encourage others to try it as it came highly recommend to me and maybe it was just an off day.

1st time visitor today. Placed a pretty big order for multiple people. If you are expecting hibachi style it kind of the same but not quite. The portion size was small compared to but of course that could be do to take out order. It didn't take long for them to make our order and the waiter who took our order was very nice. The steak tho! Geesh! I ordered medium but it was completely over cooked so much I could not eat it. Overall the food was decent but the portion size was not worth $26 I ordered salmon and they had to cut atleast 4x. Not wort the $$$$ for the portion size.

This place is alright. Generally resembles any other Asian cuisine place with same pricing model. You get a loooot of rice and very little of protein. Example is a Sake Don i got there. No sir, I'm not paying 23 bucks for that. Salmon tartar was surprisingly plain...Maybe not next time

Average food quality. Their sashimi are as thin as paper. Understand the efforts to cut costs but will you be able to make more money if there are only few people coming?

The food was horrible. The tables felt very nasty (sticky). The shrimp, chicken,scallops and steak tips were all like chewing on rubber. The fried rice was mush and absolutely no flavor. The cooked veggies " " might as well been listed as raw. The curry chicken was so watery that it should gave been listed with their soups. When it was brought to their attention, not even a " we're sorry". Well, expensive lesson learned I guess. Never to return.

I usually order from this restaurant for lunch due to it being close to my job. I have always had a positive experience when I order their takeout hibachi lunch special. Today, I decided to order and eat inside and I had a less than positive experience. I ordered the Spicy miso ramen which was VERY cold. The pork that came with the ramen was so fatty to the point that I couldn't even finish it. I ended up only eating the noodles from the ramen and even those were hard from the broth being cold. When asking for the check to leave, I received a cold reply. Ending up leaving and ordering McDonalds because I barely ate my food. Unsure if I will order from this restaurant again based on this experience. Love their lunch specials but this trip was a complete miss for me.

**Terrible experience – never coming back** I came in excited to try this Asian restaurant, but everything went downhill fast. The food was cold, bland, and poorly presented. But honestly, that wasn’t even the worst part. The most disturbing thing was witnessing how a new employee was treated by a lady that I belive was a manager. Just because he didn’t speak English well, one of the managers started yelling at him in front of everyone. It was humiliating, aggressive, and completely unprofessional. You could see how nervous and uncomfortable the employee was, and no one stepped in to stop it. This kind of behavior is unacceptable. Between the awful food and the disgusting way they treat their staff, this place deserves zero stars. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

We had a very disappointing experience at this restaurant. We waited an unusually long time just to have our order taken, and when the food finally arrived, it was extremely late. The staff didn’t seem attentive, and overall the service was very poor. We saw that the chef was eating food while making food. Definitely not what we expected. Definitely won’t be returning.

A reservation was made ahead of time to ensure they’d be open because it was a holiday. Then about 30 minutes to the reservation, they call to say they’re closing up early and if we can move our reservation to the next day. Don’t know about other people but when reservations are made it’s with plans of eating THAT day not any day in the region. Never been here before and this was such an off putting experience.

So I went here expecting a good meal, and what I received was sub par. I ordered the pork cutlet curry and expected curry I got gravy it had no spice at all, and the poatoes were far too soft- the plating was nice and the rice was ok but definatly nothing a 10 year old couldnt make. My partner got the the spicey miso ramen and it was also very bland it didn't taste good, it was so bland my partner didnt even sip the broth - it was unsatisfying, on top of that - the miso soup that went with my meal had no tofu in it. When I asked about it she just said that it doesnt come with tofu, but the photo in thier menu clearly showed tofu in the miso soup. Why advertise the soup having ingredients it doesnt have? Not only that it was litterly just broth not even worth drinking niether me nor my partner had more of it then one taste - determining it to be very unsatisfactory. Later We had asked for mushroom skewers and was refused due to it being too busy? Which if it's something you can order when its not busy why cant I when its busy? Id be paying for it. So not only was the food bland i couldn't even get something that wouldve been at least ok. when asked if our meal was good my partner said its fine but I said its not really good however the waitress was overwhelmed with tables and didnt hear me, service was innatentive - not the waitresses fault here but clearly there is a staffing problem. Before we even left as im getting my bag and jacket we havent left the table yet, the dish guy comes by and starts grabbing everything and knocks my vape to the ground. He gets it of course but it was rude to start doing that before we left-- they were really busy and understaffed so I understand why he would do that however i needed only a minute there wasnt need to rush us out like that. We only go out to eat like this once maybe twice a month and to be given food that I could have a child make for half the price is sad. Overall im very disappointed
