We had low expectations since vegetarian and kosher is difficult to pull off, but we were all pleasantly surprised. They had GF options too, and lots of them. Service was fast and precise. The tables were a little too close to each other, so it was difficult to hear the people on the other end of the table at times, but all in all - a wonderful experience. Don't miss the pea leaf dim sum.

If you haven't eaten here, you haven't lived! I go here at least once a week. Been here 3 times a week sometimes because its that good. Also the employees are adorable. I love these people 💕

This restaurant was highly recommended. They were so busy, my friends and I had to wait outside in the cold for 1 hour. Staff is very nice and friendly. Food was really good, fresh and delicious. It was worth the wait.

So glad I found this spot in Chinatown! If you’re vegetarian, you shouldn’t miss on this spot! Food is great. We had a bunch of different dim sum and a few mains. Fairly cheap (as expected for the area). The staff is nice but I only missed some music for the atmosphere. Other than that, I’ll be back again!

I've been wanting to come to this place for years and finally took the opportunity to do so. I think I first read about it or saw it somewhere but I can say that it was definitely worth it. The food is moderately priced with good portions. The faux meats were excellent. We got a serving of General Tsao's chikin which was almost indistinguishable from real chicken. I'd recommend giving it a shot of you are a vegan, vegetarian or just someone willing to try some alternate foods.

Another gem we found after walking across the Brooklyn bridge from Brooklyn side to Manhattan. Every dish here was flavorful and we could go up and down on spice to our liking. They gave two different spicy sauces and we asked for more! The schezwan claypot and their fried rice were a delight. Their service was friendly and also very fast.

i love this place. it was one of my lifelines/favorite “cheat” day spots during the years i switched to a full Vegetarian diet. even now after i’ve switched back to an omnivore diet, i still come here every few months because their BBQ meat is very close to indistinguishable from real meat. the puff pastry dim sum option is good too— all of their dim sum options are good. highly recommend

Delicious selection of vegetarian alternative Chinese dishes, I could come back easily to try more. Had the lunch specials, were amazing and filling.really large selection of options here.

Delicious dim sum that happens to be vegetarian. We were a large group that took two round tables and the staff was great. They helped us order a good amount and variety of food and check in on us regularly. Good prices.

K

We didn’t believe it was all vegetarian when we went in bc it’s such a large menu. My incredibly picky vegetarian daughter who doesn’t like vegetables gave this a 10 out of 10… she loved it. The gen tsao chicken was so good. Very friendly staff too! Lucky place for us to stumble upon.

I am born and raised in Brooklyn and my mom has been bringing me here since I was little and now I go with my friends! I love the food and service and am happy to see familiar faces always. The girlies and guys that serve here are close to my heart 10/10. Be patient and respectful when you come here because this place still exists FOR A REASON!!! 🤎🫂🥹

Manhattan's Chinatown is spoiled for having multiple options for vegan/vegetarian cuisine in the area with Bodhi being one of the top ones. They seemed really busy, even on a Thanksgiving holiday afternoon. We had many tasty dim sum options that were reminiscent of their meaty counterparts. Even the green pea shoots dumplings were surprisingly very flavorful. The servers are very helpful, we saw a server give tips to those unfamiliar with dim sum dining by advising them not to eat the paper wrap at the bottom of a steamed bao! Highly recommend this spot.

Surprisingly delicious vegan food in Chinatown!! They’re photo menu might not look appealing, but everything was delicious and dim sums are very reasonably priced. Im not a vegan but both me and my vegan husband are very pleased! They have lunch specials until 4pm! Everyone was friendly and not rushing you like some other place would do. Highly recommended if visiting Chinatown!

Best hot pot ever, it's a bit spicy but I love it, the dumplings are really good too and I love their spring roll, and it's very affordable, i love hanging out here with my friends.

Super experience, I ate there 4 times in one week and every dish was exceptional. The staff is really friendly and very accommodating. I highly recommend this restaurant because the quality of the food is really up to a self-respecting Vegan restaurant. ............. et super pas cher en plus

I travel a fair amount for work and this is in my top 3 favorite vegan restaurants. I had not eaten dim sum since going vegan about 5 years ago. I’ll admit it, I went here for dinner 2 consecutive days and I’m not ashamed. This place is awesome!

Everything we ordered was delicious! It’s a small place, very crowded, but worth it. The service is fast once you sit. The food came out quickly. Definitely recommend the BBQ ribs.

THE TRUE ORIGINAL! GO HERE! The other similarly named location on Mott St is the original physical location only. The landlord there took over the place and tried to keep the name to fool people into going, but the original chef left and opened this Mulberry location. So this location has the original GREAT food and menu. The staff is so friendly and the menu has so many options! BBQ Ribs were amazing and reminded me of the ones when I used to eat meat, but these are vegan! Dumplings and dim sum are huge so be aware when ordering or take some home. Highly suggest this spot for all vegans and vegetarians who want some great NY chinatown food!

I craved vegan dim sum. I am glad I went to this restaurant which serves everything vegan in Chinatown. The vegan dishes are tasty and affordable. They also come in smaller plates. So it's perfect for someone who dines alone to try more dishes. I enjoyed everything I ordered.

Huge variety of dim sum, some of which I've not seen at other places. Everything we got was well-seasoned, not too salty. Staff was very friendly and treated us warmly even when they were really busy. They have great dessert too! Tofu cheesecake was smooth, w flaky crust and tart berry sauce. For dinner, we got free sweet adzuki beam soup

M
Michelle Moczulski

THIS is the best vegetarian Chinese food in all of New York City! The menu is HUGE and all vegetarian. There are Asians dishes that I've been wanting to try for a while but couldn't because they traditionally had meat in them, but Bodhi Kosher Vegetarian Restaurant solved that problem for me! I recommend just ordering a bunch of dim sum and trying as much new stuff as you can. I honestly can't recommend this place enough...I'd want my death row meal to be here.

(March 17, 2023) I tried this restaurant on my way back after a hair-cut in the China Town saloon. A vegetarian Chinese restaurant! A cuisine that has all possible kinds of meat, but I can order anything from their menu, it felt surreal. I was given a pot of tea on-the-house -- warm, watery, and nice. I had the veg clear soup, and veg dumplings. They were all good. The chopsticks, bamboo wooden boxes and the peengan (ceramic) give a nice Chinese feeling. I surely want to go here again.

K
Krystal C

We were pretty excited to try this and Bodhi did not disappoint. I love that they have dimsum all day and it’s the best vegan dimsum I’ve ever had. Ones we tried and pictured are snowpea rice rolls, beef rice rolls, cha siu bao (steamed pork buns), fried taro, home dumplings, watercress dumplings, snowpea dumplings, steamed black bean ribs, steamed bean curd chicken rolls, salt and pepper ribs. Everything was delicious and the staff was very nice. I look forward to going back again.

I love everything about this restaurant. Food is delicious, nutritious, affordable, and I went a little overboard ordering the many items of dim sum; worth every penny. The Durian Pastry was so delicious. 🥰.

Food is good! Very crowded on Friday night, but we managed to seat by walk in. Food is good, be careful with spices, order them on side, they are very strong! Complimentary tea is great☕️

This was a really good vegan place with lots of dumpling options as well as many other things that are typically hard to find vegan. Reasonable prices and really good tasting

Love this place. I’ve been eating here for years and the food is great and dependable. Their eggplant with garlic sauce and Buddha’s delight are delicious. I always have to order the turnip cake, but also really enjoy their veg char sui steamed buns. It’s the best vegetarian Chinese restaurant in the area. Good prices and generous portions. Need I say more?

Their lunch special has incredible value for $10. Comes with choice of white/brown rice and a soup. I got the Kung Pao chicken with tofu vegetable soup. Kung Pao chicken: ‘Chicken’, peanuts, bell pepper. 10/10 Tofu soup: Broccoli, tofu, cabbage. 10/10 Great place to get a vegan/vegetarian lunch

Amazing food and decent prices, plenty of options. Everything I tried was delicious. I’m editing my review since I’ve been to this place so many times past the year and a half and it’s one of my favorites restaurants in New York. The food is always tasty and the staff is always friendly!

Food and service is very well. Highly rated!!! I am not a vegetarian but my mom is. Ever since we discovered this restaurant we are coming here. The 2nd time was actually my idea to come because the food is so good. My brother like to come here also and have good comments on it. We all came from the Mott Street Veg restaurant but this one is much better.

Yummy dim sum that is all vegan! We were in line for about 30minutes, but it kept moving quickly. Once seated the service was quick but they did not rush us! I loved everything I tried, highly recommend!

Amazing spot that I'm glad to see survive the pandemic. Vegan dim sum is hard to find and hard to find done so well and with such kind staff. The servers are very polite and mindful of patrons even when it's absolutely swarming. They offered chairs for those standing and waiting and even encouraged those waiting outside in summer heat to please come in to enjoy the AC. The food is amazing both in taste and variety. You can get classics like char siu and jellyfish or even more unique items like laksa. It's a snug little restaurant and they are very popular so it can get very crowded. But it is easy to understand why!

I’m beyond happy I finally paid a visit to Bodhi, as it had been on my list for a very long time. I’m so happy that I can eat everything from my younger (meat eating) dim sum days, but it not actually being real meat! The dim sum pastries are delicious and generous as you get 3 of each per order! I had the: - sweet sticky rice with coconut ($5.25) - sweet sticky rice sesame ball ($5.25) - vegetarian meat pastry ($5.95) - cha shui bao ($5.95) All 4 pastries are sooo good! For the appetizer we had the: - appetizer platter ($24.95) I honestly regretted ordering this, because out of everything I only truly enjoyed the vegetarian beef jerky (amazing!!!). So I won’t be ordering the platter next time, I’ll be going straight to the “bbq vegetable meat” instead now knowing how close it tastes to the meat version. For the main we had the: - soy sauce noodle honk kong style ($14.95) this is my favorite noodle going all the way back to my meat eating days. It doesn’t come with vegetarian meat topping options unfortunately, that would’ve made this even more perfect! But this noodle can hold its own for sure, so I won’t be complaining any further! Service was super sweet and fast! The restaurant and its restrooms are clean enough, pristine even for it being Chinatown! I already cannot wait to come back and try the other dim sum pastries, appetizers and mains! I get to eat my Asian childhood foods at an affordable pricing as a vegetarian, a dream come true! Thank you Bodhi for existing!!!

Came here on a Sunday night and it was decently packed with people. They have dividers inside and the tables are pretty spread apart so that was nice. We got the sweet and sour fish, BBQ vegetarian meat chow fun, and tofu with mushroom and basil. I will say the portions are huge. I really enjoyed the BBQ meat cause it had the same flavor as regular char siu. I might have enjoyed it than the actual meat version! The noodles were perfectly cooked and had the nice "wok hay" flavor. The fish surprisingly looked like a fish and the taste was great. I would recommend getting a side of rice for the sauce. The tofu dish was nice as well with lots of veggies. I'm curious to see what they dim sum is like, but a great place overall to get authentic, vegetarian Chinese food.

After going through old photos, I realized I never reviewed my favorite restaurant from my time living in NYC. From my first time discovering this place by chance in 2018 as a college student on a visit in NYC for a weekend, to moving to NYC and celebrating my birthdays and promotions here, Bodhi has been a fundamental part of my early to mid 20s! Always the same stellar service and, of course, great food! As I write this I can still taste the vegetarian pork bao in my memories. When I am back to NYC, even if for only a day, getting Bodhi is my priority 😆

I first visited this restaurant in March 2023 and really enjoyed it, so I came back in October 2024 to try it again—and it was just as good! The service is fast and friendly, and the menu is large and diverse. I highly recommend the peach boba (though it comes with a lot of ice) and the plant-based sesame chicken (it tastes amazing—coming from a non-vegetarian) The interior could be a bit nicer, but it’s perfectly fine for dinner. I’d definitely return if I’m in the area again. One thing to note: all appetizers come in the quantities shown on the menu, which caught the table next to me off guard, so they ended up with more than expected!

We dropped my fiancée's family at the airport and by chance of faith arrived here. It was soon to be clear that destiny had sent us here. The dumplings were delightful. And she sure do likes dumplings, I'll tell ya that. We enjoyed the place, warm tea was served complementary and the atmosphere was cozy. We are very well and the bill was under $40. (That's wild) we'll be back.

One of my favorite restaurants in NYC! All vegetarian, with great chicken imitation (and other meats too). I have come multiple times, and everything I have tried is delicious. I have brought non-vegetarian friends who also loved it. My favorites are the steamed buns, the veggie "chicken", sesame balls, and coconut balls. But really anything on the menu is amazing.

The place was very busy when I got in at around 3:05pm on a Monday. Not too bad. For Dinner, I had the BBQ Veg Meat with Fried Taro Dumplings and both of them were Delicious. The servers were very Nice and Friendly. I spent under $20. That was a Smash! Definitely stop by this place because they have a wide variety of Vegan and Gluten Free Options. 50+ of the Item Menu.

Delicious food &’friendly service! Our servers made great recommendations and the food arrived quickly. The portions were large enough to share. Great value for cost. We seek this place out every time we are in town. Highly recommend the string beans & “spare ribs”. Perfect options for vegan diets and shellfish allergies!

This place is truly the best. Their dim sum menu (the paper one) has been consistently good for as long as I’ve been coming here (9+ years)

Awesome experience! Everything is completely vegan and delicious (even for the nonvegans). We had a group of 7 and they took us to a really nice table in the back. Portion sizes are really big and great prices! Easily split by 2 people. Free tea on the house and plenty of good options. Definitely recommend!

My favorite restaurant in New York! I love the taste of traditional Chinese food, but I do not eat pork. Yet Bodhi Kosher is the only place I have eaten a vegan ma po tofu, my favorite dish, that feels complete and satisfying—I think it is the chopped mushrooms (: Dinner portions are enormous and shareable, the $9.95 lunch specials are a gift from God, the owner is a very nice man. I take all of my friends here.

Loved this place! Service was expectional, friendly staff, helpful in suggesting what to order, as they have a variety of great options. We ordered some dim sums, dumpling soup, bao buns. Everything arrived soon and it was delicious and filling. The restaurant was packed but we got the table in 5 mins. Would definitely come here again with friends/family. Keep up the great work!

I subsisted on the vegetarian cha-shu for a solid two weeks. SO tasty. The lotus buns, Sichuan beef, and hotpot, sweet sour soup are also fantastic. Just such spectacularly flavorful, delightful dishes and lovely people. PS. Lunch specials are great deals!

This place is a gem! The BBQ meat is my ultimate favorite. I like to go during the week 11a-4p for the lunch special price! The service is always quick and friendly, I love this place because it’s so yummy, quick with great service and the best prices! I usually can get in and out in twenty minutes, which is perfect when I’m hungry and rushing to work in midtown! Highly recommend.

It really is very good option to try if you like Chinese and looking for something veg, the price is reasonable and the food quality and quantity both are good. I highly recommend this place. The staff is humble and nice too ☺️ Ps- We ordered steam veg dumplings, chicken veg rice along with house red wine.

Amazing vegan Chinese food. Just fantastic. Every fish a joy. The bigger the group you go with the better as you get to try more. Must try the fish in black bean sauce. How do they even make that??? It’s surreal. The fresh veggies are a delight. So grateful for places like this.

I loved this place. Food was delicious, so many options, too! If you’re looking forward to trying out some good Chinese food while in this part of the city and you’re also vegetarian / vegan, this is a great option. Prices are very cheap, considering how good it is (we ate in a Chinese restaurant in Brooklyn two days ago that was a similar price range, but the quality was way lower in my opinion) - we even ordered from the special lunch menu, so it was even cheaper! In the lunch set you get a soup or a spring roll and a main dish. Portions were quite large, too. The service was kind, professional and quick. The place seems to be popular with locals and tourists alike.

Dined here several times many years ago and just returned yesterday. The experience continues to be great if not better! Especially shout out to the short hair lady with glasses who was amazing. She really made sure the food fit my husband's dietary restriction of no refined sugar which is challenging for most Chinese/East Asian restaurants. She even brought us tamari soy sauce that's sugar free. All the dim sum options were great and the best in my view among all the vegetarian dim sum restaurants. The vegetable dumplings had tons of fillings. Taro dumplings both steamed and fried options had great savory flavors. Only the lotus pancakes were a bit greasy and less interesting. Highly recommend this place!

I love this resturant. Anytime I am in Chinatown I go. I am vegetarian but my goddaughter and friends are not and they love the food just as much as I do. Be prepared to think about the food way after you finish the meal. Its incredible . The staff is also wonderful!! Very attentive , very kind. You can tell that this resturant is their heart. I wish I took a picture, but the food was ao good we just had to dive in.

This is my absolute FAVE SPOT in Chinatown for Veg Chinese! I always go for lunch when I’m in the area and the staff is so sweet! Best dishes/dim sum IMO are the BBQ Meat Fried Rice, Sesame Chicken, Pan Fried Buns & Curry Dumplings. Chicken Chow Fun looks great too. Every meal comes with a pot of tea and the portions are very generous. Fun to come with a group and try lots of different things.

Really unique flavors and textures all made using vegan ingredients. I was surprised by the tofu texture. I don't know if this is something I'd try multiple times, but for sure try at least once.

Excellent 👌 for vegan/ vegetarian I highly recommend this place in Chinatown on Mulberry road and Canal. I was with 3 others and we ordered at least 7 dishes and shared all of them, house special mixed vegetables, dim sum, vegetables fried rice, curried noodles and more. Everything was excellent, and delicious 🤤 I went back a second time and when I return to my acupuncturist at 139 canal by Manhattan Bridge and next to Buddist temple I will go here every time I visit NYC from MI

Being gluten free and vegetarian, I can so rarely have any Chinese food, let alone dim sum. It was so delightful and delicious to be able to have so many menu items!! Such a wonderful meal and shockingly affordable, too. (So used to the huge up charge for food that I can eat!) Can't wait to return.

Bodhi I love you, may you last forever. If I could only eat at one more restaurant for the rest of my life I would choose Bodhi. Their soup dumplings are out of this world. The bok choy is so garlicky and fresh. Every dim sum plate I've had here has been delicious. Service is quick and efficient while still being friendly. This is a vegan paradise. They also clearly label gluten free dishes on the menu.

Authentic vegan Chinese food in Chinatown. I had the mapo tofu and chicken chow fun both of which were amazing! The lunch special comes with an appetiser and a side of rice for $8.50, a great deal! Amazing food at a great price point. 5/5 from me!

Shoutout to Kira who will always remember this story (don’t forget about the microwave). We ended up ordering way too many dishes so if you want to see the whole menu be sure to check out the pics below. Our only regret was not having enough stomach room to take it all down.

The lunch menu provides incredible value for money! Small soup, main and green tea. All superb. Friendly service, good portions and so many interesting vegan options! I had the veg meats and basil sauce with brown rice as my main and loved it. It was very busy but there were a lot of spaces and service was very quick despite the popularity.

Amazing place if you’re vegetarian and looking for a good Chinese meal. Everything on the menu is vegetarian and tastes delicious- the chicken lo mein was a favorite for my friends and I. If you are gluten free, the waitress will give you a separate menu and will let you know if what was ordered is GF or not. The BBQ meat was also very tasty and had a lovely texture, and you must get the beef buns.

Laura Ferguson
Laura Ferguson

Delicious dumplings and Dim Sum and all were vegan or vegetarian! The gluten free menu is also super helpful. One big note: Do keep asking about which items are safe for your food allergies. Staff were wonderful. I had to take off one point for service because the plates weren't marked as gluten free, the staff didn't announce which plates were gf when they delivered food and it became hard to keep track after a while. It would be helpful to add allergen toothpicks to their dishes.

I cannot praise the chefs and servers of Bodhi enough for their delicious cuisine and attentive service. The taste and texture of the plant protein served in many of their dishes bears a striking resemblance to meat. All of the servers are great; in particular a friendly woman named Christine always makes our experience memorable. Prices are reasonable considering the quality, and their daily lunch specials are a bargain.

Dear reader, just hit ‘Directions’ and get yourself over here. Or if you’re feeling organized and prepared, made a reservation first. Never in my life have I had such an amazing assortment of vegetarian dim sum and dishes like this, and I fear nothing else will measure up. Food comes out quickly, the temperature is perfect, and the diverse spices and tastes keep you wanting to order even more. I’ll be back soon!

Some places don’t even need a review. They stand on their own. Bodhi Kosher Vegetarian Restaurant is one of those places. I’ve been coming here for some time now, and when I say the food is amazing, I mean it. Not just convenient. Not just affordable. Truly flavorful and consistent. You can feel the culture. You can feel the intention behind making sure people eat well. The lunch special is incredible. I highly recommend it. The blackened fish on the lunch special is excellent. My personal favorite is the lamb. I also love the vegan fish with black bean sauce. Honestly, all of their sauces are on point. The jade dumplings are a must. I sometimes venture out and try something new, but I usually stick to those because they never miss. The food is absolutely amazing. Over time, they’ve included me into the family, and I really appreciate these ladies. Things happen sometimes, like anywhere, but they always find a way to correct it. That matters. Christine is my beautiful friend, and I love her. She probably doesn’t even want the attention because all of them show up with smiles and warmth. But I would be remiss if I didn’t give her a shout out. This place feels like home for me. It’s my little getaway. I come here to eat, to work, to relax, and just reset. I don’t tell too many people about it, but 2026, I’m sharing the love. Thank you for being there in more ways than you probably realize. Angelic K

So I seen this restaurant review on righteous eats and bookmarked it on my IG until I made it to the restaurant. Yesterday night was the day that time and space opened up to allow me to take my husband here. We had the vegan general tsos chicken which was my favorite dish of the night and I am absolutely aware that “tsos” is Americanized Chinese food. Maybe when I make my way back I’ll have the courage to try something more authentic. I love bok choy and I especially love them braised in a white garlicky broth and this was not as potent and aromatic as I’d like it to be but it was good. My husband did not enjoy the shiitake mushrooms and broccoli as much bc it definitely did have a distinct ocean flavor so I’m assuming they used some type of seaweed. I enjoyed it more than he did. The vegetable rice is PACKED WITH VEGGIES and you get your full dose of fiber with this plate for sure. The vegan ribs were very interesting and I should have got them tossed in sweet and sour sauce. The darker part gives pork flavor and the middle piece might be tofu. I absolutely loved the complimentary black tea they give you at the start. We had to wait to be seated which took about 15 minutes but it was nice to see everyone enjoying their food. I’m interested in coming back to try some dim sum bc I could not make a decision bc the options were too vast. I hope to come back with my mom and my kids at some point. Thank you for having me.

We are in NYC for 4 days now and this is the best service that we got. Menu is extensive, but prices are reasonable so easy to try multiple things. Everything we tried was super tasty. Will for sure come back again!

Visited at lunchtime on a Saturday and was lucky to get a table for one ! It was busy! Huge selection of vegetarian food and well priced dim sum. I particularly enjoyed the BBQ "meat". Service was super quick, if maybe a little abrupt, but very enjoyable lunch!

Good dim sum food at reasonable price. The servers were friendly. Service was reasonably fast. The steam glutinous rice and Cha Sao Bao were really good. The fried carrot cake was a little soft. We also had dumplings for takeout.

BBQ Boneless Ribs Lettuce Song (ask them not to fry the lettuce) (favorite) Salt & Pepper Spare Ribs Sesame Seaweed Roll Sichuan Beef Five Meats Appetizer Sampler Cumin Lamb Mango Pudding Have spent a lot of time here for more than a decade. The food is unexpectedly and consistently outstanding. The service is swift from the time you order. Buy so much to take home to last about two weeks while still going there on my lunch hour of work. Stop by when you can, often as you can. ( My suggestions above, enjoy )

Ten Ten Ten Community atmosphere you might find yourself sitting next to a family or students People where helpful and kind I had no idea how to eat a soup dumpling and the staff came and helped. 100000% coming back.

The lunch offer is really good. Plus, you can finally have a fully vegetarian Chinese meal, which is rare. The selection is huge. I highly recommend it for the taste and atmosphere.

My toddler daughter and I have been coming here for a few years now. I grew up in Brooklyn but moved about a decade ago. I wish I had been going here longer but now its a new tradition between her and I. I'll be honest as a NYer a chef and a vegetarian since 2012, this place is amazing. It is extremely hard to find a restaurant that makes outstanding food, while keeping it affordable and authentic. And since I know how hard it is to make fantastic things happen (so many chefs are against it because they don't know how to cook) I can say, I absolutely love it here. We got the sesame chicken which is reminds me of sweet n sour chicken and of course our favorite, the roast pork buns! The service is always outstanding!! My toddler behaves because of how well the staff treats her. This is a huge plus! Yes, there is a service fee, which all of Chinatown has been doing for at least the last 20 years but the service is so great, that I always make sure to tip on top of it. We will be coming back next September. Looking forward to it. Highly recommend! I would add photos but they have my daughter in them.

Yes, this is the full name of the restaurant. Yes, everything on the menu really is vegetarian and kosher, which has a really nice change if you’re that person always looking for the vegetarian option on the menu because everything is safe—it’s all made with meat replacements like seitan. This place has been one of my favorites for years, and it’s the perfect place to go with friends because of the dim sum menu: just check off what you want on the dim sum menu (which conveniently categorizes the options as small, medium and large plates), and you’ll have your food quickly with ample refills of green tea. Consider this place your sweet retreat at lunch if you’re called for jury duty in Manhattan, but it’s also a very popular casual dining spot for a low-key dinner at a good price.

First time encountering a vegetarian spot in Chinatown. Completely blown away by the flavors of each dish. The BBQ meat will wow even the biggest critics of vegetarian/vegan food. Whole time while eating the group kept saying If vegetarian dishes this tasty were available everywhere we'd never eat meat again!

I’ve been to the other location and have been dreaming about the siu maai since then. I love that it’s all vegetarian and makes me want to try making some of the items at home (sticky rice siu maai maybe?) I got 3 items since I was just one person. The siu maai was still awesome with the fragrant sticky rice. The haam seoi gok wasn’t super crispy, but the inside was flavorful and had texture with some crispy bits (vegetable, not fried I think). The sesame ball was also good with a crunchy, crispy outside and gently sweet filling. Overall, a great place for fully vegetarian dim sum!

Highly recommend for those looking for vegan chinese food. Located in china town on Mulberry st. Plenty of choice in both appetizers as well as noodles and/or rice dishes. Their main dish servings are pretty good size, can choose appetizers dim sum style for sampling. Overall reasonably priced with decent ambience. Service is okay, it was bit noisey with some repair work etc. Tried Lotus Root Pan cake (good), Steamed Buddha's Bean Curd Roll (good), Fried Buddha's Spring Roll (ok). Liked Shredded Veg Chicken Lo Mein with bean sprouts, veggies and soy strips (good) and Braised Soybeen Skin w/veggies.

Food was decent, wanton soup was a bit cold. Dumplings were nice also.

I love bringing people to this place. It always blows them away that everything is vegan. I suggest going with a group of people and ordering a handful of different dishes to share family style. You absolutely have to get the shark fin congee and shrimp rice rolls for appetizers! The sesame chicken and broccoli also never disappoints for mains. The staff is always kind and the food is always brought out fast!

My wife and I walked in to Bodhi on a Monday afternoon around 1 to a relatively quite restaurant to try out some vegan Chinese food. We were seated right away and given 4 different menus, one where you could simply mark your Dim Sum order. We ordered Steamed Curry Dumpling ($4.75), Steamed Veg Shrimp Dumpling ($4.75), and BBQ Veg Meat ($8.75) - all were amazing especially the BBQ Veg Meat where they somehow managed to give, what we felt Tofu Skin, a very roasted duck kind of a taste. The Veg Shrimp dumpling also had that "fishy" taste, with no animal protein what so ever! For mains, we ordered from their Lunch Special menu and got Chicken Lo Mein Fun ($8.50) with Hot and Sour Soup, and also ordered Lamb in Garlic Sauce with Spring Roll as our side. Both were excellent and the "Chicken" in our Lo Mein which was fried Tofu, was the best Tofu we ever tasted. So flavorful and for a change, Tofu did not feel like consuming cardboard! The Lamb too was excellent where lamb pieces I think were replicated by Soy and the sauce was very flavorful. Service was excellent, food arrived quickly, and probably one of the most reasonably priced Vegetarian restaurant I have been to in Manhattan. Will definitely visit again with friends and family and will also highly recommend this place for Vegetarians, recently converted vegetarians, and vegans!

a must try for vegan dim sum in nyc! i came here on a sunday with no reservation and they found space for us despite it being quite busy. the menu is very extensive and it is so hard to choose which dishes you want. we ordered the xiao long bao, shrimp dumpling, char shui bao, and crispy duck. everything was delicious! the service was lovely and the food was so cheap considering how much you get - definitely the cheapest vegan meal i had on my nyc trip. i really recommend this place and can't wait to come back

Great gluten free dim sum. Had taro steamed and steamed home dumpling. It was flavorful and substantial. I can’t rate it completely because I only had a few, but my friend highly recommends it.

Food was pretty okay. Service was very rushed as well. We got the noodles and soup dumplings and regular dumplings. Soup Dumplings were very questionable and had a very off taste. Dumplings were very good, noodles were quite good as well. Would recommend to try out some of their dishes, good experience for vegetarian/vegans. Would come again.

8.5 out of 10 Highly recommend this place to everyone, I’m vegetarian and I appreciate having a great variety of dishes to choose from. My boyfriend is not a vegetarian and he also loved all the food here. Dumplings were delicious, and both main courses positively surprised us. Very good price considering the quality of the food and the size of the dishes. Service is good and quick. Definitely, I would come back to this place.

I’ve had many kinds of vegetarian meatless meat dishes. This restaurant tries hard, but I’ve had better. The fried rice with chicken was fantastic. The shrimp dim sum didn’t really have the feel or taste of shrimp. Also the mabo tutu had way too much tongue-numbing spice in it. I didn’t enjoy it at all.

We loved and were impressed by the food however this waitress needs to stop being so demanding when it comes to tips . We gave 3$ tips out of the suggested 5.38$ tip based on our evaluation of the service. The waitress literally demanded that the tip needs to be 5.38$ when she saw the 3$ tip. I wish I declined the waitress’ greedy demand for extra tips looking at it now ; this is in no way right or professional of them ; it is highly immature and rude . People have rights to rate your service you know; and I was right in tipping 3$ before this rude bullying over tip amount . Next time I will not tip if I go back there because of this immature bullying .

Great food, loved the sesame chicken. Waitresses were nice, but once it came to the tip, it got weird. I wrote down the tip on the receipt. One of the waiters rushed to see it. Her eyes on the number amount. She went up to another waiter and showed her the receipt. Then she came back as we were packing our things and told us to write a different tip amount. She said it's the minimum. There was no typed statement on the receipt that there was a minimum. There should be signs announcing what your minimum tip is for transparency across the board for all customers.

Was in the Big Apple for a charity event for a long weekend. Reddit users highly recommended this place, so I thought I’d give it a try. We were seated immediately and the restaurant felt very clean, albeit a bit dated/tired. Who cares, though, right? So long as the food is good. That’s my usual motto. The service throughout the entire meal was very good. Servers were incredibly attentive. We had dumplings and the servers would open the baskets already on our table to serve us, so we didn’t have to do it ourselves. Very kind and hospitable. The food was good overall. This is an all vegan menu of different Chinese classics. The sesame chicken with broccoli and rice was the best thing I ordered. The dumplings were also good, but the dough was a tad gummy, or glue-like. Not my favorite to be honest. The menu is HUGE so it helps to look ahead of time if you’re the type to be indecisive or overwhelmed by option lol. If you’re vegan or just curious, I’d recommend you give this place a try!

Service was so attentive and having tea brought out without asking 10/10. It reminded me of a family run business. Unfortunately I didn't like the food. Its not that it was cooked badly it just was salty and bland. But I'm used to English Chinese food so maybe it's just not to my taste which is fine.

We were rushed from the beginning of our meal to the end; my partner was still deciding and the server rushed him to hurry up. They made us pay $2 extra for white rice that should have come with the dishes like in any other restaurant. They brought us the bill halfway through my meal, rushing us faster to leave because they wanted to close early (none of the other tables were being rushed out or treated in the same way). They also tried to make us leave a tip before even charging the card, refusing to take the card or to take "no" for an answer and debating us and arguing with us. And the worst part is that the food itself was mediocre, we've been to other vegan places with much tastier food and far better service.

I’ve been here a few times, food was generally good however my most recent time the food came out cold, my utensils were dirty and had gunk, and service was terrible. Some servers are pleasant however there is a woman here with a bob and glasses who is rude every time i have come and they also hover around you, making you feel rushed and uncomfortable. We tipped but left less than 18% because of the poor quality and service and was confronted by the staff and when we explained she started to make excuses. it’s a shame because it could be a decent spot but i won’t be returning.

T
Tijana Damjanović Gertner

Horrid experience, bad service, people rushing you, awful food, oily, just plain bad, and a DEMAND for an 18% tip - you say no, and they don't let you go until you tip. The worst place

My friend and I stopped in for two desserts. The place was really crowded but we didn't wait long for a table. They took our order not long after sitting and the desserts came out quite quick. We ended needing a box and we were ignored for more than 20 minutes. I know the place was busy but if they would have given us a box sooner they could have cleared up a table for more customers. We finally received a box and our check. We spent maybe $11.00. We got up to leave and our server just happened to show up at our table. She looked at the bill and said quite loudly "you need to leave me a tip." She kept arguing with my friend who did not want to leave a tip because the service was awful. The server kept getting louder saying we needed to tip because she provided us with a service. Other customers started to stare at us arguing with this server. She kept getting louder and louder, berating us. A tip is not mandatory. I've worked in the restaurant industry. It's based on how you treat the customer and the service you provide. However, it's still not mandatory for a person to leave a tip. That woman was so blatantly rude and out of place. I have never had a server shame me into tipping. Such entitlement. My friend ended up leaving a $2.00 tip, over a 20% tip. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. I've never been treated like that before and it was beyond unpleasant. Maybe the restaurant should pay its employees a livable wage instead of solely relying on it's customers to. Zero star experience. Thanks for a great birthday.

I have visited this restaurant several times when traveling between Los Angeles and New York, and until now, the service had always been kind. I also truly appreciate that they have vegan and gluten-free options, which is very rare and important to me. This time, I visited again after a long time, and I was really looking forward to it, especially because it was my daughter’s first time. We are Japanese. Even though the restaurant had just opened and was almost empty, we were seated at a table right next to the entrance. After us, other customers were seated in the middle and back of the restaurant. This was clearly not random. From the attitude and behavior of the female staff member who seated us, I strongly felt that this was racial discrimination against us as Asians and Japanese. It was extremely shocking and heartbreaking. I almost cried. It is especially painful and ironic because this restaurant has “Buddha” in its name, and many of the staff are Asian. The staff member who seated us did not appear to be Asian and was a short woman. Some of the other servers were kind as usual, so I still left a tip for the kitchen staff and the kind servers. But honestly, after this experience, I am afraid to come back. This was a very sad experience Being able to eat vegan and gluten-free dim sum is very precious to me, which makes this even more painful. Discrimination should never happen anywhere, especially not in a place like this. Our special time and meal were completely ruined. This was a deeply sad and unacceptable experience.
