got the fried dunhuang noodles with veggies and the lanzhou beef noodles the broth of the lanzhou noodles was really yummy and the dunhuang noodles had great flavor and texture (only come with one noodle type) hand pulled noodles were fre and delicious, service was friendly, and meals came out in minutes!
We had 2 of their signature dishes, and their kelp salad appetizer. The service was friendly, fast, and the food outstanding. Most of the dishes seem spicy which is great for us. The have lamb, beef, and pork, I think I saw one or two vegetarian options. Its my second time here and my kids first time. The noodle soup really hit the spot. My kid doesn't usually eat beef and he says "That was AMAZING. It's worth a walk of 3000 miles". Definitely worth the train ride and the walk.
Had a great meal at DH this afternoon. The 3 pepper hot pot was deliciously savory and spicy broth with potato starch noodles, ham, mushrooms, broccoli and cauliflower. Excellent service and a really knowledgeable staff. Prices were very reasonable. Too bad they don't serve alcohol, but there are plenty of places in the neighborhood to pre-game and then enjoy their green tea. We have to come across town to eat here and do so without a second thought.
Delicious. I went to many places during my 6 day trip to NYC, but feel like leaving my first review. We had the two most popular bowls on the menu (N1 (spicy), N2). You can't go wrong with the extra wide noodle. These dishes are great to eat in cold weather. There were so fresh and refreshing to eat. The short ribs are good as well (It tasted like the seasoning that the Chinese people use on their roasted pork), but I have taste better, so I'd only come back for N1 and N2 on the menu. A month later, and I'm still thinking about it. Go try!
Cheap eats. We were heading to the airport and stopped here to grab lunch when they opened. It was cold outside and they were not quite open yet. They let us wait inside which was nice. Cucumbers have a slight spicy to them. So because for kids. Everything was good. You can choose your noodles which is what we love.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND: This place is a hidden gem and I’m so glad we found it. Best noodles possibly in the city. The dark red broth thicker noodle is their extra spicy dipping noodles and a must try. The regular spicy beef noodles N2 fresh hand stretched noodles extra wide. The Lamb Burger had a homemade bun that was made fresh today, definitely my favorite bite and best lamb burger in the city! You should try it! Very reasonable pricing as well! Enjoy!
Amazing!!! Must visit this place and the staff is really friendly. The broth is so tasty and delicious. Full of flavor. You can pick the type of noodle you want (thickness) for your soup. You'll also want to try the special tea and if you're not sure how to use the tea cup the staff can assist.
Love finding delicious Chinese spots that are not in the hustle and bustle of Chinatown! Like Joe’s Soup Dumplings and this place, Dun Huang, somewhere where Midtown and Turtle Bay neighborhoods overlap on 39th and Lexington…small place (I’m sure rent is high) with incredibly fair prices (they must sell a LOT) with deliciously flavorful food! My preferred hotel when I visit is the Grand Central Westin, a few blocks north, but I’d never been…fast service, to go/delivery orders flying out the door…broth had fantastic flavor and the noodles were clearly hand pulled (could tell by the mix match thickness of the noodles)…slight chew to the noodles…definitely warmed me up on a cool, fall day! If you are in NYC and want authentic Chinese food without trekking down to Chinatown, check this place out!
Attentive service and a quiet atmosphere. Excellent pricing for portion size. The braised beef extra wide noodle dish was amazing. Very chewy noodles and the bok choy absorbed the flavors nicely. Beef was brilliant. Most notably, the broth was rich and tasted like home. I was very happy here and would like to return.
Such wonderful, warm, comforting food. The noodles look like Vietnamese bun but had the texture of Japanese udon — soft, chewy, and a perfect bite. The broth was clear! Peppery and slightly tangy — I added chili oil and vinegar to the soup to give it a little kick. Really solid spot in a location known for mostly chain restaurants. Definitely coming back for lunch! Beef flank noodles: 8.7
This is a great restaurant to try food from the regions of China known for spice. The location is nicely decorated and a convenient spot. Their noodles are the centerpiece, and they have different presentations of them. I got the beef noodle soup, some saliva chicken, and a dessert of sticky rice. Everything came out promptly for lunch. The chicken was probably spicier than the beef noodle soup, and it immediately cleared my sinuses. The peanuts were a nice addition to the spice. The noodles in the soup were sturdy and had a nice chew. The dessert sticky rice was a surprise, as it contained raisins amid sesame seeds, kind of like a little treasure box of rice. Overall, it was a very nice meal.
Great little noodle spot in what I consider a dead zone for food. If you’re near grand central and don’t fancy a chain or something worse walk down to Lexington and enjoy this hidden gem! Service is prompt and food is equally fast yet still delicious. The place was packed when me and my friend came but we were seated promptly and in and out like a proper fast lunch. I shall return! Well done
Just had a meal at Dunhuang Noodles. For appetizers, the Shredded Potato Salad was refreshing, and the Sweet & Sour Short Ribs were a delightful mix of flavors. Don’t skip the Chinese Hamburger (Pork) and it’s a must-try! The Silky Wide Noodles were a standout hot appetizer, so smooth and satisfying. The Signature Lanzhou Beef Noodles were simply perfection, rich, flavorful broth and perfectly chewy noodles. The Pepper Fragrant Sesame Noodles Soup was equally impressive with its aromatic and tantalizing sesame flavor. Topped it all off with Eight Jewel Sticky Rice for dessert, which was a sweet treat, and washed everything down with Sweet Plum Juice and a fizzy Arctic Ocean soda. Dunhuang Noodles delivers big on taste and makes every dish memorable. Definitely coming back!
The food here is so rich and flavorful you can tell that the noodles are hand pulled because they taste so fresh and delicious! The broth for the noodles and soups are incredibly delicious. I licked the bowl clean everything I ordered my absolutely loved highly recommend this place. The servers are very attentive and friendly and always making sure that you don’t need anything.
Popped by on a Saturday around 1 pm. We were seated immediately and given menus. Most of the tables were filled which was great to see! We ordered their Chinese hamburgers (pork and lamb) as well as their ribs as appetizers. The pork in the hamburger was tender, fatty and melt in your mouth good while the lamb was super flavorful without the gamely taste - it definitely had a kick to it as it was well seasoned with spices. Their ribs? So so so good and the perfect thing to snack on while waiting for your noodles. We liked being able to choose the type of noodles. Their beef noodles came in a light beef broth with a tiny bit of spice, perfect for this that don't want a heavy and oily soup base. Their Zha Jiang noodles weren't as flavorful though we did like the texture of the noodles. We also ordered their beef slices in sour and spicy soup and I must say it was my favorite part! Servers are attentive and we got our food quickly. It wasn't super loud inside and was a great place for lunch on a cold day! We ordered their cold noodles, spicy oil noodles, and mung bean noodles to go.... And they were all super tasty! Perfect amounts of spice and flavor! Will definitely be back when we're in the area!
Very authentic northern China cuisine. Mainly focus on hand pull noodle, fresh made to order and you get to choose which size you want. There are also some traditional dishes such as the steamed mutton that’s very juicy and fresh, come with a dipping powder very simple but delicious. Make sure to try their signature beef noodle soup, the broth is amazing. Flavorful and a little sweetness taste just like the ones you get in China. The burgers are also must have, it’s traditional with flour pita bread toasted and stuffed with your choice of pork/beef/lamb, my favorite is the pork; well marinated and cooked pork belly inside. Not to mention the noodle are very cheap, $12.5 a bowl that can definitely get you full. And the burger is only $5.5 each. The manager is super friendly and come over and chat with us. I haven’t seen a restaurant manager be so welcoming for a long time.
Hole in the wall noodle place. Relatively good value for the location. Prompt service, clean restaurant. Although we like spicy foods we could not get through some of their dishes because of the spice level (rated only 2 hot peppers in the menu) and were left hungry. We had to order and pay more for additional dishes, which practically doubled our bill. Server/owner turned a blind eye to our issue so we’ll not return. Thank you
Visited Dunhuang on Lexington Avenue and was thoroughly pleased with the experience. The staff here are incredibly friendly, making you feel welcome from the moment you walk in. I went for their signature dish, the beef with wide noodles, which was a delightful choice. The noodles were not just fresh but also served piping hot, and the broth had a rich, flavorful depth that complemented the beef perfectly. The ambiance was cozy, with seating that felt intimate yet comfortable, which added to the overall dining pleasure. They also had sparkling water on hand, served beautifully cold, which was a refreshing touch. The only reason I'm not giving it five stars is because I felt the beef could have been slightly more tender. However, this minor critique doesn't overshadow the overall wonderful experience at Dunhuang. Definitely a spot worth visiting for some authentic flavors in a welcoming environment.
If you are looking for affordable noodles soup in Manhattan, you should check out Dun Huang . This spot is famous for its authentic Chinese Northwestern cuisine. Their noodles are handmade and hand-pulled to perfection. We tried their signature Lanzhou beef noodles and it was very good. The broth was rich and aromatic , the beef was so tender. The noodles had the perfect chewy texture that only comes from being freshly made. Also must try is their sweet and sour short ribs . The balance of sweet and tangy flavors left us craving more. Whether you are looking for a quick bite or leisurely meal, this spot has you covered. The service is quick and efficient, making it ideal spot for a lunch break or a quick dinner after work. We ordered : -Signature Lanzhou Beef Noodles -Boiled Fish -Zha Jiang Noodles -Kelp salad -Lamb Chinese hamburger -Sweet and sour short ribs Follow @spinx17 for more NYC food adventures!
North-western style Chinese food in small plates. Recommendation: Signature lazhou beef noodles兰州拉面, mutton on the bowl 手抓羊肉 We ordered signature lazhou beef noodles 兰州拉面, special oil spill noodle 油泼面, mutton on the bowl 手抓羊肉, mo crispy flatbread 火吧烤饼, monstrous plate chicken 大盘鸡, sweet and sour ribb 糖醋排骨. Signature is always the best. The size for each plate is small but that is ok as the price is not expensive. The taste is good for all dishes. However, the noodle in the monstrous plate chicken is too soft. Probably the noodle were prepared too early and soaked in the soup for too long. It would be better if their noodles are handmade. We spent less than $30 for 6 people in total. This is an advantage as the restaurant is in Manhattan. :)
